Burning from the Inside
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The essential Goth band Bauhaus was already starting to splinter by the time of this final album, so Burning from the Inside is a rickety bridge between fiery, arty intimations of darkness, and the two paths bandmembers later took: singer Peter Murphy's intense new-wave drama, and the more playful dance-club rock groove favored by the others (who went on to Tones On Tail and to Love and Rockets). David J.'s guitar sound, sour and sharp, and the band's dubby production tricks, define these songs more than Murphy's tremulous pronouncements about Antonin Artaud and emotional violence, and the artistic tension makes this their most musically adventurous record, from the tiny groan "Wasp" to the sprawling, doom-laden title track. --Douglas Wolk --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Dynamic and Full of Surprises.......2006-08-23
If you prefered the Beatles' Abby Road to Rubber Soul, if you prefered the Police's Syncronicity to Reggatta de Blanc, you will enjoy this for the same reasons; tension and discord at the end of a great band's flight, making for a wildly dynamic album that's full of surprises. Previous albums wallowed in redundant, sloppy, sanctimonious goth sillyness and far too many cuts that were simply self-indulgent wastes of the listeners' time. In this Burning From the Inside, every cut is a master-stroke and no two are similar. It ranges from profound to wacky to haunting to beautiful (though I could apply more adjectives than would fit in this space). The likes of Bela Legosi and Passion of Lovers has been left behind here, though their punk asthetics are still present in earnest except that here, they are applied in strategic highlights rather than in a clumsy wash. Of the other Bauhaus albmus, I only bother with a few songs from each but from Burning...I relish every song.
remembering bauhaus.......2006-08-05
bauhaus is remembering the past and present of a great collection
good but could have been alot better. .......2006-03-15
the last album bauhaus ever recorded. i really want to like alot of it. however at times its difficult, some of it is just way to melodramatic to the point of being irritating. i love bauhaus and i like this album but it just seems like they were struggling to be goth now, whereas on the first two genres they sort of created the genre by just being themselves. alot of the punky influences are gone and the playing is alot more slick so if youre into dark meloncholy melodrama then i would recommend this but if youre looking for more aggressive, up tempo bauhaus tracks then i would recommend buying Mask, the bands first album. over all i liked the songs "honeymoon croon" and "she's in parties". but i only listened to this album about three times through. i guess it really wasnt my thing. sorry bauhaus, sorry daniel ash, sorry pete.
Bauhaus' Best Album.......2005-11-25
This is their best and darkest album. The title track is brilliant, along with 'She's in Parties'. That said, the entire album is gloomy and wonderful. I've heard it said that this is Bauhaus' most commercial album. I don't think so. If anything, it's them at their most uncommercial and 'Goth', if you will. As good as 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' was, the songs on this album are far superior. Unfortunately, this album is woefully overlooked because of the splintering of the group and the supposed inconsistency of styles. I disagree. This is a classic-right up there with The Cure's 'Pornography', the Banhees' 'Juju', and Joy Division's 'Closer'.
Range.......2005-08-30
I can`t fathom what was going thru the band`s minds while recording this or in the process of making this. I`m sure there was tension, drugs and yada yada. Pure speculation. I do know that individual talents really came out. Daniel Ash to be the most significant. Perhaps it was planned that way?
All predjudice and expectations aside, I thought is was an unintential masterpiece. The lyrics were fantastic and thought provoking. The music was great. Vocals different than what we were used to but also good. I don`t see the fuss.
She`s In Parties dragged on longer than it should have but may have been the best song.

Absolute Masterpiece...AOR Heaven.......2007-02-19
Any AOR fan out there that can find this album, get it! This is what it's all about. My favorites from this are "Survival In The Western World" and the title track, but they're all amazing. No fillers on this one. It's a real shame that albums such as this one are such a challenge to find for the most part.

Product Description
THINGS HEARD UNHEARD is the first recording by Brian Willson as a leader. This recording is a combination of completely free improvisationno guidelines whatsoever other than listeningand composed pieces, nothing written, but discussion of the nature of the work to be performed. Influenced by free jazz of the 60s, world music, and contemporary, Willson fuses these elements into a diverse amalgam of improvised musicsome pieces are classic free piano, bass and drums, evidence of the strong Cecil Taylor influence abounds, others are evocative of Eastern culture utilizing sounds and instruments particular to Tibet, Japan and China, evoking images of Buddhist ritual. Brian had played with Yuko and Dom individually and they enjoyed a long friendship collectively, but this was the first musical meeting of this trio of gifted musicians. The recording is a culmination of years of performing for Brian Willsonhe has traveled from rock and roll to jazz to club dates to oldies bands to Broadway shows to contemporary music. He is an accomplished performer in both the jazz and classical worlds, and an ardent improviser. After touring the world as percussionist and musical director with several Broadway shows he has dedicated his musical pursuits to jazz drumming, improvisation, conducting contemporary music, and performing and touring as Assistant Conductor with the Brooklyn College Percussion Ensemble. He recently recorded a series of duets with Pauline Oliveros, AS IT IS and a DVD of improvised music called JUST PLAYIN, to be broadcast on CUNY TV. He is co-leader of a straight ahead jazz quartet, The Salim WashingtonBrian Willson Quartet. Mr. Willson began improvising circa 1977 after hearing Sun Ra and his Arkestra in Chicago.
