About the Artist
Scott Helland was born in Illinois and moved to Westfield, Massachusetts early on. Growing up in Mass, he was exposed to, and influenced by, such artists as Kraftwerk, Motorhead, Michael Hedges and his parent's Jazz collection. He got his start in the early eighties playing in hardcore bands with future Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh/Folk Implosion members J Mascis and Lou Barlow, as well as his own band Outpatients with his brother.

Scott now writes, performs, records and mixes his Ambient Acoustic Instrumental Space Folk in what he calls his 'traveling home studio'. "I call it that because the songs and the writing process are really like a traveling experience for me, each song being a little journey in itself. Also, I was constantly moving in 1999." He describes writing music as "catching the melodies and riffs that are floating in the air...after the first few notes come to me, the rest of the song almost writes itself, it's really powerful, very introspective and hypnotic."

Album Description
Ambient Acoustic Instrumental Space Folk - Soothing, hypnotic atmospheric audio with an infusion of acoustic, electric and bass guitar. A spellbinding odyssey where every song has its own distinct backdrop luring the listener into experiencing each unique environment. This new collection of songs has been described as both soothing (Gazing At The Stars From The Floating Sea conjures images of the deep green sea, as liquid guitars envelop you, an infinite amount of stars look on, and you float in a protective dream state) and haunting (Soldier Souls Hovering Over The Murky Depths - faint cannon blasts reverberate in the distance as hundreds of soldier souls find refuge in their ascent over the water).
