About the Artist
Scott Helland was born in Illinois and moved to Westfield, Massachusetts early on. Growing up in Mass, he was exposed to, and influenced by, such artists as Kraftwerk, Motorhead, Michael Hedges and his parent's Jazz collection. He got his start in the early eighties playing in hardcore bands with future Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh/Folk Implosion members J Mascis and Lou Barlow, as well as his own band Outpatients with his brother.
Album Description
Mood Rings, a reference to phone booths and answering machines, is Scotts first solo CD. Its dark guitar, bass and keyboard melodies are interlaced with actual phone messages, which range from an angry agitated girlfriend to the news of the death of a family friend.
