Gorillaz [Enhanced] [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The Gorillaz claim to have found their motley crew of cartoon characters sleeping in Leicester Square, but Blur's Damon Albarn (a.k.a. 2-D) and cult cartoonist Jamie Hewlett (Murdoc) aren't fooling anyone. As the ultimate experiment in manufactured image, the Gorillaz are a virtual cartoon-character-based hip-hop band who bring together witty, silly lyrics and talented musicians. Infectious old-school hip-hop rhythms, rhymes, and effects courtesy of Deltron 303's Kid Koala and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (Russel) are combined with Albarn's passion for chugging lo-fi and edgy melodies to create a seemingly raw but ultimately slick blend of styles. This is nowhere more evident than on the hit single "Clint Eastwood," which is carried along by the sound of 2-D's slurred voice and a bluesy harmonica melody interrupted by Russel's punching rhymes. But the surprises don't stop there: Ibrahim Ferrer's appearance on "Latin Simone" could have come straight from Buena Vista Social Club but for the obvious Blur-influenced piano style, while the spooky intro to "M1 A1" wouldn't sound out of place on Michael Jackson's Thriller. Backed by Jamie Hewlett's death-wish character on bass, Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori (Noodle) on guitar and occasional hyperactive vocals, and produced by Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, it's hardly surprising that Gorillaz is marked both by a sense of playfulness and a passion for experimentation. --Caroline Butler --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

A side project doesn't usually hit gold, especially when said project is a quirky virtual collective fronted by cartoon characters. But the first, self-titled album by Gorillaz--the brainchild of illustrator Jamie Hewlett and Blur frontman Damon Albarn--actually hit platinum and turned into a surprise worldwide hit. Naturally expectations were a lot higher for Gorillaz's sophomore effort, but Demon Days actually is even better than its predecessor. With producer Dan "the Automator" Nakamura gone, Albarn, a.k.a. 2D, has paired up with DJ Danger Mouse (responsible for the infamous Grey Album that illegally mixed the Beatles and Jay-Z) to steer the musical ship, while a whole new slew of guests enlivens the proceedings. Albarn has described Demon Days as being darker, but there's a real kooky dance-party vibe coursing through the CD. Despite its somber tone, "Kids with Guns" is lifted by a killer bass line, for instance, while the catchy first single, "Feel Good Inc," is augmented by an appealing contribution from De La Soul. Other noteworthy guests include Roots Manuva and Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird on the dubby "All Alone" and Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder on the bouncy "DARE." And yet it's a 69-year-old actor who gets to deliver the most baffling contribution--just listen to Dennis Hopper's spoken-word narrative on "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head." 5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant!!!.......2007-07-24

You HAVE to buy this, Gorillaz fans! :)This is the completion to your collection, if you have one without it. If you do, then all you need is the newest item, Rise of the Ogre. And I understand why you can't listen to El Manana .....watch the video, Noodle fans, and make sure to have tissues ready!!!:(

5 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the 1 and 2 star's.......2007-07-09

They are a bunch of idiots who bought this album for the radio friendly singles. This is easily one of the most complex, intelligent, and layered albums of the decade. A addictive mix of Rock, hip hop, and brains, everysong on this album is brilliant, the only low being the far to long "Every Planet We Reach is Dead".
I've seen some people complain about it being depressing. SO WHAT? It's not emo, just honest, and truthful.
For me the album is about the wrongs of modern society, But interpratation seem to vary, with the Iraq war in the lead. Far from the "collection of random sounds" some would have you think. Yes, they are heavy on the synths, but the songs are brilliant on musical level as well, as the lyrical.
I think this album is supposed to take place in some kind of apocalyptic/and or totalitarian future, by the way.

Just so you know, lyrically this is a VERY bleak album, barely letting up in DARE

Last Living Souls 4/5- Simple opener, asking if they are the last good people left on this Earth, finally deciding that they must be with the line "Yeah, we're the last livin' souls"

Kids With Guns 5/5-My favorite track, Killer bass line, either about how we let society turn ourselves to monsters(So they're turning yourselfs to monster's/Setting yourself on fire/Turning you all to monsters/ Its all desire), or the Iraq War depending on your interpretation of the album as a whole

O' Green World 4/5-A song about either mans destruction of our only planet through polution, or mans destruction of its only planet through nuclear war. I said the album was bleak

Dirty Harry 5/5- A initially light and jumpy song, until you realize that the lightness is supposed to symbolize how those of us who have not been in war are innoncent and iggnorant of the horror AND the Iraq war(I need a gun/To keep myself from harm/ those poor people/ are burning in the sun/...I need a gun/'cus all I do is dance) The act of dancing in the song represent innocence, and about half way through, one of the best rap's i've ever heard comes out, this time from the point of view of a soldier ending in a few lines aimed directly at bush, and a couple of line of him remembering when he could dance,or be innocent(The war is over/So said the speaker/with the flight suit on/Maybe to him I'm just a pawn /So he can advance /Remember when I used to dance /Man, all I want to do is dance)

Feel Good inc. 5/5- You all know how it sounds. Its about how we surround ourselves with stuff that we think makes us feel good, because the corporations(symbolized by the De La Soul, the rapper) tell us so. But in the end all we need to be happy is purity and love(I.e. the windmill)

El Manana 5/5-Slow, and mournful. About a lost love, or maybe a soldier who commited atrocities so bad he's god has forsaken him

Every Planet We Reach is Dead 3/5- I like this song, but its drags on, and I don't mind a long song, but this DRAAAGGGGSSSS. So I have no clue what its about, because i skip it :P

And i'm stopping there, you can figure the rest out yourself. My fingers are hurt and i'm tired.

Oh, and it passes generational barriers as well, my 50 year old grandma loves this album to! Then again, she's not into what you would think of as "Old person music"(Frank Sinatra FTW!) so don't go buying it as a gift for you grammy.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful.......2007-07-01

i've been a fan of gorillaz since my college years. they've stayed true to their style. but of course you already know that or you wouldn't be considering buying it and reading reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Even better than their first album.......2007-06-27

Every song on here is unique, catchy, and just plain fun. If you enjoyed their first album, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars A Smooth, Haunting Album.......2007-06-17

I recently reviewed Gorillaz first self titled album, giving it two stars.

Who can say why things happen the way they do, but somewhere between the release of their first album, and their second, the Gorillaz got their s~~t together.

For the first sound of 2D singing "Are we the last living souls?" to the last haunting sounds of the choir singing on "Demon Days" aside from a slight misstep, this album takes off and doesn't look back.

Each song has its own distinctiveness, but a thread of melancholy invades almost every second of the album, due almost entirely to Damon "2D" Albarn's raspy, intentionally tired sounding voice. This voice fits perfectly with 2D on the Gorillaz music videos, who looks like he's either been crying, or high on pot. LOL

Its hard to choose favorites, each song is a gem (accept, perhaps, for White Lights, but that, I'm sure, is debateable), but if I were to base it on the songs I listen to the most, it would be Last Living Souls, Kids With Guns, Feel Good INC, La Manana, All Alone, and Dare. As you can see that is like half the album, and I definately would have to point out, the other soungs are great themselves.

"Demon Days" utilizes, in a way the first album was unable to do, a perfect blend of solid beats, smooth vocals, and strong raps. I bought this album a couple of years after its release so the only question now is: when does the next one come out!?

4 out of 5 stars Where it all started.......2007-06-27

Their second album is better, but Clint Eastwood is a song no fan should be without.

2 out of 5 stars Couple catchy tunes, sup-par album.......2007-06-17

Ive read a good chunk of the reviews for this album, and as much as it pains me, I have to disagree with most of them.

My understanding of this album (while I may be wrong) is that this album was originally done as a sort of joke, a cynical view of hip-hop music and culture by the creator of Gorillaz, Damon Albarn, one of the members of the alternative band, Blur. Based on that assesment, this album is a triumph.

While some of the songs are decent and perhaps worth a listen (Re-hash, Clint Eastwood, perhaps a couple of more) the majority of the album is poorly produced, the music is thin and uninteresting, the raps are corny and very "MC Hammer", and, if anything, I get the impression that the creators of Gorillaz may have been surprised by the reception the album received, mainly due to the hit "Clint Eastwood" one of the few redeemable songs on the album.

Of course, that is just my take, and it could be that this album was a definate effort from the creators of Gorillaz, but one major thing gives me pause at believing that: Gorillaz second effort, Demon Days.

This is not a Demon Days review, so I won't go into detail, but it is sufficed to say, that in light of the smooth, hypnotic tunes of Demon Days, and the obviousness of the effort that went into it, "Gorillaz" seems like they were messing around, then realized they may have actually had something (again, based on the perhaps unforeseen success of "Clint Eastwood") then went back, this time taking the time and care needed to craft a superb album.

In the end, "Gorillaz" is more bad then good. There are a couple of stand out songs that you may want to download via Itunes, such as Clint Eastwood and the Souldchild Remix of 19-2000 (a light, fun track, vastly superior to its original counterpart). For me, the real test of a good album is how long it has played in my car.

This one I played about 2 times.

5 out of 5 stars Still a timeless classic, but it is a little bit more punk than hip-hop........2007-06-16

Then again, it's a lot more than either punk or hip-hop can fully cover. It is basically everything you have ever heard, but reimagined in a completely different way. Every track on here is great, and not just good, which is something the I can't say for most CDs, including the Gorillaz' own Demon Days album.

The first Gorillaz CD is to Gorillaz as Nevermind was to Nirvana. It is the timeless classic that can be listened to over and over again without a likely chance of growing tired of it. While this CD is less of an acquired taste than the first CD is, and is still very good, it's not as good.

Danger Mouse pales in comparison to Dan the Automater's producing skills in the first work. The reason for this is in the variety. Danger Mouse has set a tone that plays throughout the CD, with each and every track. Dan the Automater on the other hand, delivered a CD with so much variety there would have to be something for everyone. Whereas CD 1 covered the broad range of reggae, Latin, punk, pop, rock, dance, rap, hip-hop, DJ, ska, and just about every type of music available, this CD sticks its feet in firm territory and never moves.

CD 1 is for the music in general lover, CD 2 is for those like the one particular sound that can be heard in most of the Gorillaz more recent videos. If you had to choose between the two, I'd go with CD 1 first, and then maybe get CD 2 later, when you get the chance.

Just make sure CD 1 comes with Dracula, Suzuki Left Hand Method, and the Clint Eastwood/19-2000 remixes as well... as most of original Gorillaz albums these days should have. You wanna get the most for your money after all.

4 out of 5 stars Would be 5 stars ... in hindsight, 4 stars. Great album though........2007-06-05

I first learned of the Gorillaz when Deamon Days was released. I absolutely fell in love with that album. Working my way backwards in the Gorillaz discography resulted in me rating this album 4 stars. It's hard to compare to Deamon Days, however this is a great album.

This album is pure alt/punk with strong hip hop influences. There are electronic influences, however possibly just from the person who mixed and mastered the album. Damon Albarn really mixes the album up with a wide variety of music flavors and influences. It can all be found on this impressive album. There is nothing boring about it!

Below is my jotted notes on each song .... take them for what they are worth!

------> Great tracks <----------------

Re-hash ... Alt/punk feel. Excellent electronic samples/effects. Chipper beat/melody.

5-4 ... Alt/punk feel. At first it sounds like Smashmouth. Great song, good lyrics.

Tomorrow Comes Today ... Alternative. Slow and mellow song.

Clint Eastwood ... the #1 single from the album. Great mix of alt/punk and hip hop. Special guest Del The Funkee Homosapien spits insane lyrics. Awesome beat and melody.

Rock the House ... I'm not a fan, but most people like this track. Features Del once again, shows hip hop influences.

19-2000 ... great track. Awesome beat/melody ... electronic samples/synths ... great lyrics.

Slow Country - Very interesting beat and melody, reoccurring squeek throughout. Good lyrics. Excellent keyboard accompaniment.

Left Hand Suzuki Method - Very interesting melody. Very interesting addition to the album. Great listen.

-------> Strange Tracks ... but awesome! <-----------------

Man Research - Damon sounds like a mental patient, however the song is GREAT! A lot of electronics.

Star Shine - Man Research Vol 2! Excellent track

Sound Check - Has potential, but I can't make myself sit through the whole song.

M1 A1 - Takes a while to pick up, bug a solid song. Very punk inspired.

------> Filler tracks <--------------

New genious ... wasn't really feeling this one.

Punk ... not sure about this one.

Double Bass ... cool instrumental.

Latin Simone ... Song is in Spanish. Interesting addition and influences.

Dracula ... Can't make myself listen to the whole song. Chipper beat.

Also worth mentioning, both remixes are great!

Rusty Rothwell

5 out of 5 stars The Most Awesome CD I have ever heard!.......2007-04-29

The Gorillaz are an awesome band and their music is really good. You must listen to Clint Eastwood, Rock The House, and 19-2000 to really capture the feel of this group. I have to mention the Parental Advisory. Don't sweat. There are only four curses on the album: F-2x, A-1x and S-1x. That's all. You have to listen if you like rap, rock, pop or electronica. The Gorillaz do NOT disappoint. LISTEN NOW!

5 out of 5 stars As Russel once said: Just Get Down!.......2006-02-06

For Christmas of 2005, I got Demon Days, by Gorillaz(which I reviewed also on Amazon)and loved it. I met friends at school who liked Gorillaz too, so I have a music library at school, making me almost look forward to school. I'm disappointed that this only has 9 songs, (6 less than Demon Days;7 less than Gorillaz) and also that Gorillaz didn't remix Rock The House or Tommorow Comes Today. But Clint Eastwood Phi Cypher version and 19/2000 (the first song, not the other 19/2000 remix, which is kinda boring) make up for it.

5 out of 5 stars 12D3, 12D3..........2005-09-26

Some of these songs are awesome... "Faust"... "The Sounder"... "Hip Albatross"... "Left Hand Suzuki Method"... every track on here is excellent. My version of Gorillaz debut album had the Soulchild Remix of "19-2000" already on it, so that song was redundant to me--as well as "Rock the House", which was on all versions of the debut album... I think they put it on there because it was a recent Gorillaz single.

It is a short CD however, and best suited for Gorillaz fans only.

Sure, Gorillaz sounded original, but it was a pop project with all the constraints that went with it--can you imagine the six-minute remixed version of "Clint Eastwood" making it onto MTV? But that's exactly what makes Laika Come Home so good. It's a reimagined collection filled with bone-shaking dubscapes and enough reverb to transmit a message to the farthest edges of the universe. Listen to the "De-Punked" version of "Punk" with its meandering, decayed trumpet and computerized tweaks--hardly recognizable as the original--or the swinging old-school ska that crops ups on "5/4." The two-tone skank of "M1/A1" (with Terry Hall) sounds as if it should have been the original version, but the real killer tracks are those injected with dancehall vibes by DJ U Brown and Earl 16. Who says "you don't get paid for doing what you love?"--not Damon Albarn. --Caroline Butler

Everytime i hear a gorillaz song that i have not heard before i am more than impressed and surprised at the creativity they have with their music. The gorillaz never fail to trip me out.... i think gorillaz and spacemonkeyz can start a whole new type of music that might once take over the teenage population just as rock and hip hop once did, i would bet anyone money this becomes the next teenage generations kind of music

I go through life with a soundtrack, and this cd isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. Cmon, lets face it y'all, there is more to reggae than we think. This is just a step in a new and right direction. Mixing the low bass and mystical fog feel of dub with the feel good sound of reggae, and a splash of dance, this is it. There's nothing better than a 20 minute instrumental, with smooth tunage and sounds out of nowhere to mezmerize the soul.

If you dig this, you should pick up the Dead 60's dub/extended version of their only album. Plus, Reggae From Finland, out last year. Soul Captain Band, and a plethora of dub djs (plus hot smart women) make Finland worth visiting..

So yeah, buy this. And Spacemonkeyz? PLease make more of this!

5 out of 5 stars Incredibly laidback!.......2006-02-03

You will enjoy this Album, especially if you enjoy Reggae.

While randomly going through CD's on sale at a store (somewhere in India) I saw this one for about $7. For 7 bucks, it wouldn't hurt to listen. Having heard it, the experience was worth more (maybe the full price too).

The background is traditional Reggae rhythym, yet each track is contemporarily styled and fused with different Instruments. I guess this is a hallmark of the SpaceMonkeyz. I often find myself listening to this album alongside tracks from Willie Williams, Max Romeo, UB40 and even Pink Floyd amongst other artists that have a strong anchoring in easy tunes and rhythyms. The mixes were all originally part of the Gorillaz album from 2001 (except perhaps one track at the end). Even if you do own the original album, buy this one, it is very different and will not fail to surprise you.

4 out of 5 stars Very.....Innovative.......2005-12-21

I have loved Gorillaz ever since my friend showed me the self-titled album one day. I'm not sure what it is about them that I like so much, possibly just all the freshness in their songs. This album sounds like they took a field trip to the jungle: not what I expected. The vocals are not very vibrant at all; it's more instrumental. I like how it all works out, though. It's extremely unique! I'm just not sure if it's worth owning. Listen and decide for yourself.

4 out of 5 stars The Space Monkeys.... And The Gorillaz..............2005-10-24

I have to say, this really suprised me. The music was better than I had expected, and the style was completely changed, really cool. This album features longer versions of your favorite tracks from the Gorillaz first album, "Gorillaz" and remixes them into longer, more chill tracks where the raps are replaced by ragae improves, and the keyboard effects and synths have gone crazy and created a vortex of chill, raage, techno, Gorillaz style greatness. 2-D's vocals are almost non-existant in this album, which really supries me. There are hardly and vocals at all really, just some ragae improves and small vocals done by some side artists, and some "to cool for school" ragae beats from the drummer that are just ausom.

Clint Eastwood has, yet again, been redone, and in this case has gone completely ragae, the keyboards are all a ragae beat, the vocals have changed, the drum rythm and time signature has changed, and there is now a horn part. The only thing that even makes it recognizeable is the harmonica from time to time, that reminds you, that it is Clint Eastwood.

It's hard to say if you'll like this or not. If you like The Gorillaz because of their more pop, rock sort of sound, look elsewhere. However if it has always been the more ragae techno sort of thing that you liked, this is for you, and if you liked the raps, I garuntee you'll love the ragae vocals.

So, for any hardcore Gorilla worshipper like me, you have to get this simply to hear what they would sound like if they had been more ragae orientated. The music is still great. I recomend this album to pretty well everyone.

PEACE! THE GORILLAZ ARE AUSOM!

Michael Nyman teaming up with Blur's Damon Albarn? Yes it's true, and--as odd as it sounds--the collaboration works. With its eerie mix of symphonic orchestrations and clunky ragtime, Ravenous delivers Gold Rush-era instrumentation with all the eeriness of Deliverance. Stephen Foster's "Welcome to Fort Spencer" is transformed into an off-kilter (and off-key) romp by Foster's Social Orchestra. "Colquhoun's Story" is a meditative squeezebox ditty that sounds downright otherworldly once a meditative flute kicks in. It's not all banjos and jew's harps, however: The Michael Nyman Orchestra does its best imitation of Copland's Appalachian Spring with "Trek to the Cave." The movie may have gotten mixed reviews, but this score is definitely worth hearing. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for Ravenous.......2006-01-31

Without a doubt, Ravenous is the most deliciously ingenious and bizarre and maybe even original score I've ever heard, and I've heard many many of them. What Nyman and Alburn have done here is essentially do for movie scores what Tarantino did for films - take all the essential rules and fundamental guidelines, throw them out, and then do the exact opposite.
How else could you explain this album? Plucking banjos, furious strings, bizarre whiny horns, and even accordians? And yet....they make it work so well! This is truly both a haunting and terrifying score. It's one that lingers in your mind, love it or hate it. Strange, how it distracts you from the film on purpose, and completely deserves to. And that's probably the best compliment I can give this score - it's one of a kind, and will always be unforgettable.
You'll notice I haven't actually described the album or specific music on the tracks in any substantial way. That's because it's impossible to describe. It has to be experienced to believe. If you like experimental music or are a fan of film scores, run and pick this up right away. Wether you do indeed love it or despise it, you will be looking at it with a shudder on your CD shelf for many years to come.
cheers
KZ

5 out of 5 stars Atmosphere for Both Eating in and Dining Out!!.......2003-11-21

Many scores/soundtracks don't seem to cover all the basics that a movie requires. They oftentimes seem to go for the marketing tool that works "after the fact" feel, hoping to sell more albums instead of help out the movie. This hurts quite a few films, too, because it allows certain table settings to slip through the cracks. Too often there is opting that instead takes faces that an audience knows, giving them that flavor of the moment instead of letting the levity and the sounds of situations shine through. Ravenous was an exception to that rule, however, making something that captured the bizarre blends of horror depicted in the moment.

When I first saw the movie, I was actually moved by the score and I thought that it accented many of the moods all too well. The frantic situations, the ones that were almost funny but that shouldn't be, and the horror was something I thought was fantastic. Atmospherically the films was a work of art, and I found later on that it wasn't simply the pictures that were making the film. It was instead the brooding sounds circulated through the scenes, making moments like the one captured in "run" applaudably funny instead of horrific, that made me like it so much. So I went out and bought this work by Nyman and Albarn and I've had it in my listening lineup ever since.

Even if you really aren't a fan of scores, you might want to give this work a go. I'm not normally one to pick up tracks of this nature, normally staying away from soundtracks of any sort altogether, but this is a versatile piece with real potential. It works as interesting background sound, making walking through the park or eating lunch with your discman on an interesting experience. That and the conversation highlights it can spawn make with friends makes it well worth looking into.

5 out of 5 stars hypnotic.......2003-10-18

In a webzine interview Michael Nyman explained that while the score is attributed to "Damon Albarn & Michael Nyman", none of the individual pieces were actual collaborations. Albarn wrote about 60% entirely by himself, then Nyman came and wrote the rest.

That said, there are no "dodgy" tracks on this soundtrack. They're all excellent, and very unique. My favourites - Colquhoun's Story, Let's Go Kill That Bastard and the end titles - have complex layered melodies and strong rhythm. Keep in mind though that this was for a movie about cannibalism. Some tracks are particularly tension filled, but even the whimsical band pieces, like the flavoursomely off-key "Welcome to Fort Spencer", have a distinctly sinister tone.

And can I say that it's fun trying to guess who wrote which track.

5 out of 5 stars Music for Hearty Appetites..........2003-04-14

How good is this score? As three or four reviewers have already mentioned, I'm sitting here listening to it even as I type. You couldn't get a more odd combination than avant-garde composer Michael Nyman and former BLUR frontman Damon Albarn if you tried, but considering the schizoid nature of the movie it was composed for, it TOTALLY works.

The photos in the liner notes make me wonder how somebody didn't have the presence of mind to immortalize this collaboration on video...a documentary about the making of this soundtrack would've probably been as oddly engaging as the movie itself.

But let's just stick with the album: music hasn't been this "visual" since John Williams score for JAWS, or Bernard Herrmann's classic work on PSYCHO. Hearing it out of context would probably a VERY strange experience, so if you can stomach the gore, I would recommend viewing the film first. As a stand-alone work it may seem like a very odd duck, but even then I think it will grow on more adventurous listeners. It is without a doubt one of the two most overlooked scores of the decade, (the other being Carter Burwell's THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER.)

"Hail Columbia" is a great way to start the disk as in the movie, with a queasy discordance underscoring the tune in a way that perfectly complements the scene it was written for (Boyd's "promotion"), as does all the superb work here. "Boyd's Journey" describes the entire movie in less than five minutes, with a strangely grand theme that can only be described as "tragically heroic."

Definite highlights: "Colquhon's Story"; from "Trek to the Cave" up to "Ives Return" which I have come to consider a kind of "RAVENOUS Suite," where it's a song cycle that won't make sense unless you hear every song in between in one sitting; "Manifest Destiny," and of course, "Saveoursoulissa," one of the most chilling "death struggle" themes to appear in recent years, mostly because of the subtle way it plays on your spine, understating the final confrontation between Boyd and Ives.

But what are you listening to me for? Buy this for your collection NOW!

4 out of 5 stars strange but good.......2002-07-24

This is a very strange album. The music is a blend of classical, folk, and a touch of bluegrass. It is good but a little eerie. I am glad I own it.

5 out of 5 stars Feel Good Inc.......2006-12-30

If this is the correct single I'm thinking of, it comes not only with Feel Good Inc, but Murdoc Is God, Bill Murray, and Spitting Out The Demons, all of which are rare songs. As for it's meaning, the tower represents a dystopic society in shambles, and the windmill represents innocence and freedom from that society.
2-D's lyrics really bring the song together, and Noodle's acoustic riff on the second chorus is awe-inspiring. Gorillaz did a GREAT job with FGI overall; couldn't of hit the nail on the head any better.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Stop.. Get it .. Get it... It's pretty amazing........2006-02-19

I could speculate as to the meaning of the lyrics of "Feel Good, Inc." by the Gorillaz, but I haven't put much thought to it because I don't care. The sound and arrangement of this song are so inventive that it's just a treat to listen to it. Analyzing it would just spoil it.

Nine months after first hearing this song as part of an Ipod commercial, I still enjoy it as much now as I did then. When it comes on the radio, I turn the volume up; I will repeat it when it comes up on my play list on my Ipod; and I will make everyone shut up and listen when the video pops up on MTV.

The opening track of hysterical laughter immediately signals this will be a different type of song. 2-D's (one of the members of this animated band) monotone lyrics amid a thumping bass guitar leave one unprepared for the loftier chorus, the amazing guitar interlude, and certainly not for the secondary rap chorus provided by hip-hop masters De La Soul. The mixture is the most eclectic since Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and is mature and memorable. "Feel Good, Inc." is a song that should not just be listened to, but rather, experienced.

4 out of 5 stars yo.......2005-08-26

I really like the song. it's great, but i'd just buy it on ipod rather than spending 12 bucks on the single

5 out of 5 stars Strange but eeriely soothing at the same time.......2002-08-12

I was at my friends house a couple of weeks ago when I saw the video of "Clint Eastwood" for the first time and immediatly loved it.I had never even herd of the "Gorillaz" before. But I went to the store and bought the album. Now I have all of their albums and can never get their music out of my head.I love Clint Eastwood, along with Ed Case Re-mix, followed by Dracula, very nice and then Clint Eastwood the video. If you want the video or if you can never get the songs Clint Eastwood or Dracula out of your head like me I suggest you get this cd.

3 out of 5 stars If you NEED the video..........2002-02-20

If you NEED the video you can get this disc. You probably already have Clint Eastwood on the full album. The Ed Case refix is the remix pasted onto the end of the original album in full song form... and it's not that great. Dracula's on the album. But if you HAVE to have the video (which is understandable) and can't download it off the internet, get this disc. Otherwise, it's, like another reviewer said, just for completists.

3 out of 5 stars Completists only.......2001-11-20

Ed Case pitches up for a drumnbass rework of this maddeningly catchy tune. It's more funny than it is actually groovy. I can't imagine how many times I'd turn to this version. Dracula is alright: a c 'n/ w flavored saunter gets pulled inside-out via some dub shenanigans. Amusing, not essential.

5 out of 5 stars Chicks 'n Dudes Gorillaz are really kickin' tunes!.......2001-10-20

This CD is great! I love this song, in fact it is so catchy that I had this song stuck in my head for a month after I first heard it! The remix is a little weird but the original version I highly reccomend. If your a fan of rap, this cd is totally right for you! And when you start listening to the song don't blow it off because of the beginning, you have to listen to the whole song to know if you like it or not. I HIGHLY reccomend this CD for you, the song is catchy and the rappin' is great! You HAVE to get this "I command you to!"

3 out of 5 stars Cool Remix...But.......2001-10-05

I've tried to watch the video on three different computers and It didn't work. Exchanged the cd and still cannot view the video. Don't buy this with the hopes of watching the video. But the remix is real funky.

5 out of 5 stars 10 Year Anniversary Box Set.......2007-07-04

I should start out by noting blur's status as my favorite band, which would predispose me to liking this set. And I do, let there be no doubt about that. The packaging itself is luxurious, something few bands ever have the distinction of receiving. Not only is it a collection of the singles and b-sides, but their original sleeves are all reproduced, in high-quality. It sounds silly to include that as a note, but these are gorgeous reproductions. The booklet isn't much more than a compilation of different covers for different formats of the various singles, but it's on excellent paper and is worth flipping through. All this is nice, but, obviously, the focus of the set is the music, and here's where it gets interesting. All the live b-sides are fantastic, that should be made clear. blur were a formidable live act, and their skills are in full display here. The studio b-sides vary in quality, as is the case for most bands. I found the majority of b-sides for all the singles off Leisure and Modern Life is Rubbish to be passable at best, and I didn't even get through most of them. After that, the band really hit their stride, and it's a conistently entertaining listen. Definitely not a purchase for those not familiar with the band, but for big fans, it's a must-buy.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it, but sorry it's now out of print...........2006-12-05

(repost by same reviewer, different name)
Blur may have strategically packaged all their singles and b sides in a cool case logic type packaging, divided them in 22 cds and 127 songs all in all, but it is worth it for all of you die hard blur fans. Blur singles are hard to find in America and so here is our answer. The lucky consumers will even get some live tracks. Blur's music have changed since their early years. The contents of the 22 cds will then cater to Blur fans who liked their music then and now. Each cd neatly enclosed in the singles' original cover sleeve, the whole collection may become valuable in the new millenium. Mind you only 7000 box sets are released, each with its own serial number.

5 out of 5 stars It's like owning another 7 Blur albums.......2006-02-19

Blur made collecting cd singles a joy. That's why this boxset is so essential. Every song is quality (even Rednecks is a lot of fun), but the b-sides from the Modern Life Is Rubbish era has always been my favorite. I owned all of these singles on my own at one time, but when eBay FIRST introduced to me, I remember making like 90 bucks for the 2cd set on For Tomorrow, not to forget selling Popscene for $50, and Bang and the original There's No Other Way for the same...this boxset makes the grade. I like how if there were a part1&2, it's now on the same disc. Just great stuff. The only other band I think stood the test of time like this as far as really strong b-sides is Mansun. If you haven't b-sides from them, get Kleptomania. The fans picked their 14 or 15 on disc two, but again - every song is powerful.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Blur.......2005-08-18

Blur is, hands down, the best British rock band of the last 15 years (yes, even better than Radiohead...Blur did it FIRST, did it better, and without the ridiculous overhyping and pretension). This box set contains all of Blur's 22 singles (up to the point that this was released...they released 4 more singles....Music is My Radar, Out of Time, Crazy Beat, and Good Song) and their b-sides, all in the original sleeves. Blur is one of those bands (along with Suede) where the b-sides were usually top-notch quality, and that's borne out in this set. Check out Young and Lovely, Ultranol, Explain, No Monsters in Me, Bone Bag, Peach, Tame, Magpie, All We Want, All Your Life, and Polished Stone (just to name a few)! Fantastic. While this is hard to find, especially in America, for a true Blur fan, it's essential.

5 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must.......2001-03-08

If you are a true Blur fan this collection is a must have. The packaging itself is superior. Very creative and thoughtful. The cover art for the CD's is high quality. The zipper case that nestles the CD's is first class. If you look closely the typical and funny thing about this set is that it comes in a plain brown box. So much for the packaging, which is an important feature for box sets. The music is what truly counts. The music speaks for itself.

5 out of 5 stars Simply great.......2002-10-22

Profanity or no profanity the CD is great!!

4 out of 5 stars This is the coolest thing possible, if you have a DVD player.......2002-03-19

First of all, the album is a combo of rock/rap. Very cool.

Second off, even if you don't have a DVD player (WHY?), the songs on both discs are well worth your time and money.

Third, the video. Oh, the video! I never knew that about 4 minutes could be so cool. I had to cut a star, though, because the video is one of a quintilogy (5), and there's no reason why all 5 couldn't be on the disc.

3 out of 5 stars woooww.... this is expensive man!.......2002-03-14

well, is worth it? first thing you must think before purchase this double cd.

1st, okay, there are bonus tracks, 2 remixes and a couple of b-sides. but, you can find all of these in the other gorillaz material. like in their previous single and their new EP, G-sides.

2nd, the videos. there are 3. Tomorrow Comes Today, Clint Eastwood, and 19-2000. these videos are GOOD, but it is on VCD format and there is NO guarantee it is playable on a DVD player. well, amazon says it can, but I own it, and it is NOT playable on my DVD and two of my friends DVD player.

3rd, the price!
it is VERY expensive. go buy G-Sides EP and their single. but, if you are a die hard collector...
