We Did Some Things [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Jacksonville, Florida does certain things to men. These 14 songs are a testament to the southern band's salty live jobs. You can hear the anger of problem children screaming inside men when you turn up tracks like "Sparky's Got It" and "Slow Repair" what with its onslaught of blues-punk sax and guitar sex tangled in "Young Man Blues" styled howlings. Infallibly heavy bass and drums support jacked up guitar sludge with wild sax turnstile rides. Just when you think its just another one-trick chops and stops deal the band disses Pavement with the lonely megahits "Five Years Old" and "None of You".

Awesome stuff in it's own right, but NOT to be confused with the Japanese style hardcore band from Oregon of the same name.
This stuff is hard rocking with saxaphone. That stuff is hard rocking with splintering bone. Easily confused, Don't be mistaken.

I'll attempt to do justice to We Did Some Things and the commanding Gizzard. They were heavy in about every sense of the word, surely stood on the robust shoulders of southern rock giants and seriously hard rockers like Led Zeppelin and Killdozer. There are influences from jazz, punk and more, but the point is pure heavy, humid rock. Alternately ponderous and aggressive, the arrangements within and among songs mirror life in their home town of Jax., FL, juxtaposing boredom with resultant mind-altering recreation and creativity. This is competently crafted music. Though C. Strawn is without question the driving force behind Gizzard, B. Hicks' sax and flute were top contributors to their unique and rich sound. They mixed tempos and moods into calculated, perfectionistically tight -- and hopefully cathartic -- songs... If you can stomach the lyrics, you're in for a fiery taste treat. But should you digest or regurgitate? There's some frustrated and spine chilling poetry. It'll be hard to forget.
