The Most Distant Point Known

Editorial Reviews
Bill Fox, host of Emusic Radio, WDIY
"The Most Distant Point Known by Mike Griffin and Dave Fulton is a lush treasure."

Max Shea, host of Martian Gardens Radio, WMUA
AWESOME! Reminiscent of the best the early '70s had to offer. Comparisons to Tangerine Dream's Phaedra are obvious.

Album Description
The first collaboration between Griffin (Hypnos founder and determined minimalist) and Fulton (Dweller at the Threshold co-founder and now-leader) is a broad and spacy sonic vista, yet quite listenable -- different enough from the previous works of both Griffin and Fulton, yet working in generally familiar territory. Combining deep, churning drones with analog sequencer loops, THE MOST DISTANT POINT KNOWN is a deep and ever-changing collage of shifts and patterns.

Ambient music, particularly ambient music which draws on an "outer space" theme, is sometimes imagined to be a monolithic or predictable form. "The Most Distant Point Known" defies
these conventional expectations. The sound here is subtle,
not a sci fi convention in sound, but a quiet yet active exploration of the potential of sound. This music does not strain to be "experimental" or to make the listener say "wow, what those synthesizers can do" in the way that 70s early ambient did. The evocation of distance, space and time are concrete, but not at all stereotypical. The synthesized music is never annoying, and never cloying or sweet. This is a subtle, worthwhile CD--another great offering by the great Hypnos label.
