Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
If scientists strived to merge crunchy, hook-heavy pop-rock-punk and the super-shiniest production techniques this side of Smashing Pumpkins, the result would probably sound exactly like Everclear's Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude. It's a hit-or-miss outing. On the one hand, it's a step up from the tepid Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 1, and it takes the boys back to the loose but mighty muscularity that made Sparkle and Fade such a delight. Art Alexakis and company take some chances, like the funky groove of "Babytalk" and the ballad to bombast and back again of "Out of My Depth." On the minus side, the production is so slick that there's no friction, and rock music without friction is like, well, like large chunks of this Attitude. Definitely a mixed bag from Everclear. --Jason Josephes --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

A little rough but true Everclear.......2006-11-04
A lot like the first "Songs" but a little bit rougher, not quite as polished. But like most Everclear you need to listen to the lyrics to get a deep appreciation for the music. The quality of the recoprding seems not to be so terrific, but in general it is good (not great) classic Everclear.
Worse than Volume 1, by a long shot........2006-08-26
What little "Volume 1" had to offer, "Volume 2" has even less.
There is not one single memorable tune. It's all Everclear-sounding songs, but nothing that jumps out and says, "Hey, listen to me again!"
Competently done, well played, well produced...but utterly inconsequential. "Rock Star" even sounds like an Everclear cover band song, like somebody was trying to imitate Alexakis and company.
This was WAY boring, I thought.
Not as melodic as Vol.I.......2006-07-08
I understand this is more a return to form for Everclear, but I did prefer the more melodic sounds on Volume I. That being said there are a number of worthy songs here. "Short Blond Hair" about what really is not important anymore, "Out of My Depth" a tuneful look at despair, and "Overwhelming" which may prove to be wishful thinking but is a valiant effort to show the pain of a relationship gone wrong are all excellent examples of the band in top form.
But some other tunes are pretty much a waste of time. Like "Babytalk" that is pretty much a hard rocker about a pet peeve, and "Rock Star" an idea that has been done to death and usually better than this one. And even the title "Misery Whip" makes me wince. I just feel Volume I was more consistently listenable.
"We were fading like the bottom of a bad dream...".......2005-12-28
This is surely one of the greatest albums in rock. Art Alexakis is the best songwriter to come around since John Easedale from Dramarama. The song ROCK STAR is the most hilarious repudiation of the sickening false humility that permeated the Northwest Music Scene I have ever heard; its one of the most bratty, snotty, sneering rock and roll songs to blister the ears since the Sex Pistols first roared out of the gate.
Misunderstood.......2005-04-09
I guess that is how I will sum this Songs from an American movie vol. 2... up. I don't know maybe it's just me but I love this album. I am not a person that easily gives five stars to an album, in fact some of my favorite albums only receive four stars. Anyways, this is a rock album. Meaning power chords abundant and alot of Art's patented "Oh's! and Yeah's!" But seriously this is an up tempo album, not as angry as World of noise or tracks like "heroin girl" from Sparkle and fade. Instead this album sounds like what it is, some middle age guys saying I'm going to turn this way up and throw a tantrum for fourty minutes. This is the album I use to introduce my friends to everclear, I know most people will use the argument that sparkle and world were better, but this is far more accessible and toungue and cheek. I mean come on the chorus in "babytalk" is "she's got you by the balls!" try not to sing that all day long. The one thing that I feel I should mention is what a gem the song "good witch" is. I almost break into tears when I hear it. It is a song about that love that is almost within reach. One that if you are in that situation you will feel. I love Everclear and hope that they attempt more albums in this spirit instead of whatever the heck Slow motion daydream is. Thank you for your time.

Oops..........2003-05-14
Everclear's Vol. 2 Good Time for a Bad Attitude is a big let down for me. I bought it the day it came out because I'm a big Everclear fan, but after all this time, it's my least favorite Everclear album.
There is one standout track, Good Witch of the North. This was supposed to be a big rock album, so it's ironic that the best song on here is an acoustic love song. Overwhelming is a good song, but Art Alexakis already recorded it as a solo song, so it's not too exciting here. It's old news by now. Misery Whip is probably the best rock song. The riffs are great and it rocks! It's a song about rough sex, which is a little too much for me, so maybe I don't like the song that much, but it's a good song. Song from an American Movie pt. 2 had the potential to be one of Everclear's best songs, but I don't think it comes close. Many fans love this song, but I don't. I think the melody is extremely boring. You can't really have fun singing along to it. And the words are just ok. The song is about life, and moving on from a divorce and being with your family, which is a great subject, but sometimes the words don't make sense to me. It seems a little forced.
The rest of the record is either mediocre (When it All Goes Wrong Again, Rock Star) or very bad (Babytalk, All [messed] Up). Everclear labeled this as a rock album and some people loved it as a rock album, claiming Vol 1 Learning How to Smile was too poppy, but I think they've been fooled. Although Everclear is a rock band, rock is not what Everclear has always been about. Good songs is what Everclear has been about, and this album is lacking that. When you substitute rock for good songs, it doesn't really work, and that's what happened here. Although I love this band, I do not love this album. If you're looking for some Everclear music that rocks, go with "Sparkle and Fade" or "World of Noise," because those albums are made up of great songs.
Not Everclear's Best.......2002-06-12
I May Be The Only One Who Does'nt Like When It All Goes Wrong Again, I Do Like Rock Star, Out Of My Depth, And Song From An American Movie Part 2. That's Enough To Get 3 Stars.
Worth the Wait!.......2001-11-30
As I live in England, I've been waiting for this album for ages. I had already downloaded half of it, but its really not like owning the album itself. So it finally came out in the middle of April, and it has not disappointed.
It picks up where Vol. 1 left off: Volume 1 was really optimistic but this album is much more pi**ed off. But it really does take you on a journey.
It opens with single When It All Goes Wrong Again, which really sets the tone for the whole album with heavy guitars and drums and Art's distinctive voice getting angry in a catchy sort of way.
Slide is the next track. It wasn't one of my favorites when I downloaded it, but I like it more now. Its also catchy and musically similar to the first track.
Babytalk, however, is very different. It is groove-based and journeys into the kinda rock-rap genre, which Art then turns around and sort of derides in Rock Star, which is about innocent dreams of fame. Short Blonde Hair then shows where it went wrong. Its a great song, beautiful and typically Everclear in sound. Its lyrically about how people don't like him any more and think he's just 'That stupid guy with the short blonde hair' but how he doesn't care.
The next track, Misery Whip, is a song about taking out anger, and taking it out on yourself. Its not my favorite track, but its quite good. The next song, Out Of My Depth, is related to the pressures of fame. It, and the next track, Good Witch Of The North, are softer ballads.
Next we have Halloween Americana, a cool instrumental reminiscent of El Distorto De Melodica. Next is All F... Up, which is the reason for the Parental Advisory label. It is really heavy fast rock.
Next is one of the best tracks, the gorgeous ballad Overwhelming, which is about his ex-wife and how she has treated him, like her 'pathetic little loser, someone she can ignore' and how he's 'not gonna let her overwhelme' him any more.
The final track is what Song From An American Movie Pt. 1 should sound like, its the same song, except in a way better arrangement. It is a beautiful songs which says things simply but wonderfully and can make me cry.
Songs From An American Movie Volume 1 was one of the most classic pop albums ever. Songs From An American Movie Volume 2 now stands as one of the most classic rock albums ever.
This Is not the best of everclear But is still ever heven........2001-08-07
Hi, open minded reader this is among the cd's that Make you love music so much. If you have ever listened to everclear before you now what I'm taking about. These lyrics arn't as much from the heart as those of "So Much for the After Glow", "Sparkle and Fade" or even to a lesser extent "Songs From an American Movie Volume 1: Learning how to Smile". Some of these songs are very nagative tords life like "OverWhelmed" Others are just an exceptence of what life is Like "Misery Whip" and "Songs from an American Movie 2". I think that these lyrics were writen during a difficult time for (lead singer) Art because these lyrics were writen when the band was prepareing to break up and this was for his solow album. These lyrics were writen before those of volume 1 and thus these lyrics have a more pesimistic view on life than volume 1. Why? because these lyrics were written rite after his devorce and his relationship with his daughter was in the balance. All and all this is an amazing cd which deserves to be listened to many times.
Great c.d.......2001-06-13
All songs are great especially All F***ked up. Some of the songs sound alike, but I like the way it sounds. Everclears best c.d definitely. Better than their old junk. Great rock c.d. Don't be discouraged by songs from an American movie vol. 1. This c.d is much better, and is a lo more like rock.
