Orson Welles: Planet Devouring Robot
Editorial Reviews Whitford's music attempts to pay homage to this dignity. The band sculpt and mold their songs from carefully crafted layers of minimalism, blending the echoed tones of a lone electric guitar with an eight-string electric bass, drums and a tenor saxophone. Though known for their explosive boleros, for Whitford, subtlety is job #1.
About the Artist
Whitford first performed in the cold, graffiti-caked basement of Chatham's REA coffehouse. The band arrived late, hungry and frozen, having just removed the boot from their drummer's van. Concerned that this initial dose of bad luck was earned when the band named themselves after their drummer's dead black cat, Whitford vowed to abandon lyrics and vocals. The cat had been a mute, dignified animal.
