Editorial Reviews Our musical philosophy is easily defined by freedom. By questioning the traditional boundaries of script, timing, and melody; we allow ourselves the liberty to pursue new territory and hopefully answer with some sweet sounds. We gather religiously in our studio on a weekly basis in pursuit of this goal. Also keeping with our creative tradition, all songs are improvisational. There is no over-dubbing, no multi-tracking and no manipulation of the sound once it is laid down; hence, the songs on MUSICAL CATECHISM are titled by the date they were created. If you find this project of interest and applicable to your needs or would like to pen us a review, please do not hesitate in contacting me (ferrella@facstaff.wisc.edu). Also be sure to check out the 5-minute multi-media video on the green disc that was done in collaboration with my brother, Andre.
Musical Catechism
JASPER/Ambience Music Magazine
I cannot emphasize enough the masterfulness of this album. This is no new age dalliance - this is a serious and potent sound narrative that keeps one on the edge of one's seat. It is intricate and highly evocative without leaning an inch toward pretentiousness or derivation...
Vladimir Jovanovic / Host of "Inner Space" / 100.5 FM / Zagreb / Croatia
This is a very successful mixture of different styles, subtle hints of progressive, freejazz and more apparent expressions in ambient and deep chill on certain tracks... an experimental album made by excellent musicians who share a certain vision and have the right means of capturing the interest of those who yearn for rich and powerful music"
Album Description
Along with studio mate and fellow soundscape artist Kevin Schaefer, I am releasing a new double multi-media cd called MUSICAL CATECHISM [from 3.11.99~2.17.00]. The inspiration for this project came from a book of Kevin's {titled: MUSICAL CATECHISM by Robert Schumann /circa. 1874} that has been handed down in his family for four generations. 'Catechism' is defined as a ritual involving intense questions and answers in order to seek a higher truth. When you apply this definition to music as Robert Schumann did, one hopefully breaks down boundaries and begins to explore new aural terrain. This was our impetus.
Enjoy
