3 out of 5 stars Artbox - not that artsy, but fun.......2002-10-31

There are a lot of great things about this album, and a lot of bad things. I'll start this review off by saying i worked with drummer, Scotty "Gunner" Bolton, at a comic book store in Mountain View, CA. Also, as far as i know, the band is only D-Funk at the moment, and he is pursuing a musical career in the L.A. area.

Anyways, i'll start with the good. The album design is very cool with the pictures of all three members of the band and their girlfriends in San Francisco. Also, the humor of this band is very entertaining evident on songs such as "Oblivion" where we hear art-student rap from D-Funk, "In A Guy's Body" which has some great yowls and funny lyrics (not sure if they're supposed to be). It also sounds like these guys had fun in the studio with songs like "Atari Opera." Also, the songs are simple and catchy.

But the simplicity is part of its problem. The album gets pretty old after a while because there isn't really an emotional draw with this album that really hooks me in. While some of the lyrics are inspired, a lot of them are pretty bad. Some of the "sex" lyrics on songs like "Girls Like You" are pretty weird, and D-Funk (i think) really likes to write about girls on their knees. There is also some pretty bad singing as well.

So i tried to be fair, as this album most likely won't change your life, but it is fun, crude, neatly produced, indie, and young. I imagine you'll be bobbing your head to the fun beat. So if you want something fun, get this album. It is certainly that.

5 out of 5 stars The coolest album ever made.......2001-02-01

Artbox is probably the best new band I have heard in 10 years. "Oblivion" is definately one of the finest moments in pop history Although the lyrics may scare the hell out of some people I think this shows a great side of of artbox bands personality.

5 out of 5 stars I love it!.......2000-11-14

The new album "Crush" by Artbox is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Anyone who hasn't yet heard it, I strongly recommend you get yourself a copy. You won't want to stop listening to it!
