1 out of 5 stars terrible.......2007-02-21

i remember hearing of this band and "teenage dirtbag" although i had never actually heard the song before. i saw this cd at the library one time so i picked it up and thought i would give it a listen. and i have to say this is probably one of the worst cd's i have ever heard in my life. i dont know how anyone can actually listen to this without being embarassed that they are listening to it. their song writing skills are just very immature. the lyrics sound like they were written by a little 14 year old "punk a** b****" and the singer sounds like he's trying to immitate rivers cuomo (weezer) but it's just terrible...he just sounds like a douchebag. after skimming thru the tracks, which was painful enough, i took it out of my cd player and put it back in the case where it sat on my bedroom floor until it was due back at the lirbary. if you want to hear good pop/punk music with good geeky vocals, stick with weezer...this is just s***

5 out of 5 stars Not Just A Teenage Dirtbag.......2006-06-04

I love this band. They are original. Anymore, they aren't because bands COPY THEM. They're not sell-outs, and all the songs on the album don't sound the same. So, don't listen to that [...]. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. I did and it was amazing. <3

5 out of 5 stars . . .Lets Take this outside........2005-08-30

Wheatus has a style, a style like no other, some see them as a "weezer" clone, but thats just not the case what so ever.
Wheatus, is deep, funny, Rock out with your friend, kinda band.
They are not what one should ever call "Pop". Wheatus is not even what one should call "Punk Rock". Because if you go that far, you should go as far to say, Weezer is punk rock...which they aren't. weezer, and wheatus, are in the same catagory, but wheatus is i repeat not a weezer clone. This album is completely worth buying it, because if you find yourself ever, even looking at the Wheatus album, theres a reason you ended up looking at it. And that reason is that you are supposed to buy it, Wheatus has something and they are all together. They have a unique feel about them, just as a sence of humor, not everyone finds the same things funny, not everyone is going to like this, but Wheatus is a wonderful band, stupid might come to mind, but buying cd's about people singing of the time when they lost this chick they liked, and other stuff like that sounds stupid, but its all about the way it makes you feel. So open your arms and your wallet and embrace the glory of Wheatus, and there tell it to you straight, laid back, rock out, act stupid, laugh your a** off with your best friend ways!^.^

4 out of 5 stars At First Listen..........2005-08-17

At first listen, the word stupid comes to mind. But listen again. And then again. Then possibly again. There becomes a very clear underlying genius. It's as if Wheatus understands that they are being stupid and most people will recognize it and shrug them off as another weezer clone. But at the same time, they are very accomplished musicians and if someone takes the time to look past the initial stupidity, they are bound to find a brilliant record worth listening to over and over.

3 out of 5 stars Meh.......2005-04-22

Teenage Dirtbag is some pop rock genius, for its time anyway, but as for everything else...Wheatus seem like they are trying too hard to be "punk" or "edgy" and such. It's just....not a good rock album. Move on to the Blue Album by Weezer, or Live Through This by Hole.

5 out of 5 stars Playing it over and over again..........2006-05-22

I love the approachability of this band (my family just saw them perform, and the kids had such a blast!), and this particular album is really great.

Sometimes they remind me a little of They Might Be Giants. Most of their songs are not quite so ridiculous, but there is an element of humor in many of the tracks.

I was a little concerned about all the parental advisory warnings on the cd, but really bad stuff is too obscure for the kids to get anyway. There are definitely some instances of foul language, but the music is not hateful, and not overly sexual, either. The bad language is mostly used as expressions of frustrations with life, and as a parent, I don't really have a problem with it in that context.

I don't normally review music, but I wanted to give a vote on this one, because we have really enjoyed it - the CD has been playing almost non-stop in our house since we bought it, and we all really like it.

2 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the other albums.......2005-11-19

So to begin, I have to say that Wheatus is a band Ive always thought was underrated and they have consistently been in my music rotation for CD, mp3 player, computer whatever. I liked them enough even to order from England "Hand Over Your Loved Ones" Yet, I am not some dyed-in-the-wool fan or a hater, just a music lover.

Now for the review: this album leaves much to be desired. Frankly, I am disappointed. It is not nearly as good as the other two. While the first release was overall the best album, IMHO, I listen to the second album more as my favorite two songs from wheatus (lemonade and anyway) are on that album to counteract the 4-5 second-rate songs that were included. Unfortunately, the current release doesn't have enough great tunes to coverup the overall lack of quality songs on the album.

At first listen, the first song (something good) is, well, something good. It takes a different directtion from previous Wheatus fare, being heavier and rockin out more, but it works and is the best song on the album and probably in the top ten wheatus songs overall. Unfortunately, it is down hill from there. The second song (in the melody) is good and still rocks out. The next two are ok with London Sun being the better of the two. Listenable, but nothing to write home about. After these songs, Wheatus starts taking a different direction with disastrous results. Not a one is memorable and I found myself skipping the tracks to relisten to the first two songs.

If you like "classic" wheatus, this is probably not for you. Frankly, I will probably trade this album in for something else

5 out of 5 stars Wheatus Kicks Ass! .......2005-11-11

I'm giving this 5 stars because I am a Wheatus fan & I am what I is, so there you have it. I think it would be impossible for Wheatus to top "Hand Over Your Loved Ones" Their sophomore effort. If you like this album run as fast as you can somewhere, to wherever they have it & buy it immediatly! I guarantee you will not take it out of your stereo for months! It's a great album & just for the record I'm not some little punk that doesn't know anything about music. I'm 28 & I have my degree in Commercial Music & Jazz Studies & I've been playing guitar since I was 13. I went thru the same program Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge went through & even had private lessons from him. So, I'm qualified! On an individual instrument talent level, I can't give Wheatus that much, but on a level of putting out fun, great, don't give a crap, funny & catchy party tunes, I give these guy's all the credit in the world & I'd love to see them live, but they NEVER COME TO THE NORTHWEST!! damn it. But, anyway.. I'd tell you to purchase "Hand Over Your Loved Ones" before you purchase this & if you love it, then buy their first album "Wheatus" & love both of them! & then after you love both of them, buy this one & you'll love all 3! Cheers. Oh, I forgot.. actually! Don't buy "Hand Over Your Loved Ones" Buy "Suck Fony" it's the same exact album but it has 2 additional tunes on it. They re-released it after parting ways with Sony. Hense the title.. Love it!

5 out of 5 stars Another great offering!.......2005-11-01

Don't let the lo-fi production quality steer you away from this great album. At first I was a bit cynical, having only known the "slick produced" Wheatus, but these songs are too good to let that hold back some perfect pop songs. If anything, the production adds to the realness of the songs offered. Another great album from the most underrated band of the new millennium.

Album Description

After the success of their self titled debut album & single 'Teenage Dirtbag', Wheatus release their second album 'Hand Over Your Loved Ones'. Recorded in lead singer/songwriter Brendan B. Brown's basement & taking inspiration from the 9/11 terror attacks, the album is more somber in tone than the pop-rock sound that featured on previous recordings. The UK edition includes two hidden bonus tracks, 'Song That I Wrote When You Dissed Me' (Demo Versions Part One & Two). Also included is the single 'American In Amsterdam'. Sony. 2003.

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointed.......2006-01-24

So yadda yadda we were all introduced by teenage dirtbag, and just recently i saw the BMX Bandits video and it tottaly reminded me of thier one hit wonder, so i irrationally went on amazon and perchased 4 of thier cds, this being one of them, from hearing those 2 songs mentioned above i thought Wheatus would be a kid like fun group singing about teenage inocense. Boy was i wrong i know it says Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics on the cover but i thought it would be just some quick swear words.... pffff as of now im not going to be a fan of wheatus, their 2 hit wonders are great.... and thats the bottom line, well c when i get the rest of the cds

5 out of 5 stars Sweet as sugar and twice as crunchy!!!.......2005-08-30

Wheatus' hand Over Your Loved Ones, is one of the best things I have ever heard. I Like all music, as one of my friends has told me..."its funny, your like a "g"..but at the same time your not." but as I always state, "I Love anything, as long as its got the right something to it." and WHEATUS COMPLETELY HAS IT!
If your not seduced by The sound, The Lyrics WILL! get you!

I love this cd! its something grand.
I have never been a person to actually go out and buy a cd, I can't stand to listen to 5 tracks, and then finally! a good song will play. But with this, thats not the case, granted, I dont (LOVE!)ever song on the cd, but They are infact all worth listening to. Wheatus, is the kind of band, that no matter what song it is your gunna wanna play the song loud enough, you can't here yourself "singing" along with, and just Rock out with and act Like an idoit with your best friends! LOL! When my older brother put this cd on in the car. I fell in love, by the time we had finished our trip, I new the words, and a week later, my friends willingly, and ,or not knew them too. and not too mention, the words to the frist album!^0^!

As Its been said on many occasions, This album isnt/hasnt been liked as much as the first, and its true, maybe to some people none of the other wheatus songs will ever live up to Teenage Dirt Bag,...which is NOT! so WHAT SO EVER!(but heck, some people say none of weezer's songs will live up to any of the songs on the (blue album) and some people, think weezer is a new band now, because of Beverly hills LOL!

Yet, the failing of this album, is not really the albums fault all in all, as most will probly notice, wheatus' Suck Fony has the same songs, plus 2!..(they didnt just put out the album again, with 2 new songs, to make people buy both.) No, thats actually incorrect, This album was put out onto the street, with basicly no word of existance. Sony just didn't (as I say)- "Pimp" the album, But luckly, with the buying back of the rights, Wheatus, was able to put it Back out On the street, with a hole new bang!!!........so enter the name! Suck Fony!^.^"

But personally, for me, When I am to listen to this album, or any wheatus song, I always have to have (Rock show), by blink 182, near me to listen to, because the way wheatus songs feel, and the song Rock show feels, they just go together, so really for those that like blink your probly gunna get a nice kick out of this...

just try the album! Or You will someday fall for someone that owns it, and you will kick yourself in the ass for not have bought it. After, having asked him/her, "hmmm..this is new,..who is this?" yes..thats just how good wheatus is!

So finally LOL! ends my review!^.^\/

5 out of 5 stars Excellent album, great lyrics, great vocals!.......2005-05-21

I wasn't subjected to the overplaying of "Teenage Dirtbag". I heard the song, I liked it. I liked all the other songs on that album as well.

But I don't think I'm wrong in saying that this album is a step above their first album. The music is more polished, and the songs seem to know what they are doing, whereas a lot of the songs on the first album just were kind of...there.

All these songs are great. Catchy harmonies and lyrics. The surprising two hidden tracks at the end of the CD. Live versions of track 2 maybe? I don't know. They are cool though.

They have rereleased this album, with a few new tracks, and you can get this new off their website for a small 18.00 bucks, shipping included!

But anyway, all these songs are great. My favorite probably being "The Song That I Wrote When You Dissed Me". Excellent chorus, and vocals. Catchy tune and everything. This band has talent. A bit strange at times, but very original and creative.

I cannot say who Wheatus sounds like, because they do sound like just themselves. Original, creative, and not afraid to go up against the power of the corporation.

Highly reccomended

5 out of 5 stars Poor Wheatus.......2004-06-27

If Wheatus hadn't had that one hit song, Teenage Dirtbag, they'd have a huge cult following. Because that one song was played to death on the radio, people automatically think of Wheatus as some pop band one hit wonder. Maybe they're a one hit wonder, but considering the sorry state of radio here in the good ol' USA, that's not so much a bad thing.

When I first heard Teenage Dirtbag, I fell in love with it. I went out and bought the CD and found, to my infinite surprise, that I loved the entire album. I rocked this album in my car, in my friends' cars, in my stereo, in my computer, everywhere. My friends didn't get it at first, but I didn't really care. I played it anyway. Eventually they came around and bought the cd.

Coming from this vantage point, I really wanted a new wheatus CD, but I was really afraid that I had built it up too much in my mind. When I got the CD, I was really disappointed when I heard the first song "American in Amsterdam". I thought about ejecting the CD and throwing it out the window (But only for a second). Luckily, the second song is really where this CD starts. They got the single out of the way and made the rest of the CD for the fans, what few of us there are...

It's a strange CD, the weirdest part being the title of track 9, "Whole Amoeba". I guess it was an inside joke. The chorus goes "You had a hold on me but just for a while..." and when you first hear it, you think he's saying "Whole Amoeba". It's not hilarious, but it always makes me smile, and it gives me the feeling that Wheatus is sharing an inside joke with the fans.

In the end, it's their attitude that always wins me over. Sarcastic and juvenile, but surprisingly well written and executed. Go buy this CD, listen to it once before work, and after you've hummed the songs all day, listen to it on the way home. You won't be disappointed if you succumb to their contagious energy.

4 out of 5 stars Weezer, Ween, Wheatus.......2003-11-22

.

"Okay, so I'm a jerk and I'm a weirdo and even if I'm lucky I'll amount to zero but I thought that you'd love me anyway"

I hate it when people quote lyrics and think that you can get a sense of the incredible catchy melodies,
or the personal heartbreak that made a song meaningful to them.
And I just did it because I really love this album. And/or I suck.

Ironic nerd rock. Frankie Valley meets Quiet Riot.

Bitter, hopeful, funny, poignant, and utterly disposable.

Catchy, contagious, and something that you will sing along with in the car and your empty room.
Guaranteed to be one of those albums you play to death and then force your friends to buy
so that you know that someone will be listening to it.

This is one of those albums you will pull out 6 years from now and remember how much you loved it.

"why should I care about the long run? what should it matter to me?
I always knew I'd end up with no one, and now I know that the end is near, cause you've replaced me."

1 out of 5 stars uh.....what?.......2006-03-03

i don't really know what everyone here is talking about. the song teenage dirtbag is not rock. it is EMO. getting a band with vocals and lyrics that whiny to sing about iron maiden is like getting an athiest to do sunday mass. it doesn't happen. and when it does, it sucks. there isn't even a guitar solo. all the instruements are backup for the vocals. that's not what rock is about. its about the music and guitar and the speed and how it all....rocks, for lack of a better word. this is just another emo kid bitching about a girl he didn't get, again.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE TEENAGE DIRTBAG.......2005-09-01

5 out of 5 stars Emily's Brill Review!.......2001-02-18

This is a FANTASTIC song and so is the video! You've gotta hear it, at the mo, it's at no:2. This song has a really catchy tune that'll leave you singing for days... It's hard to realise who's singing the girl bit but it's actually a boy! This song is about a boy dreaming. He really fancies a girl at his school. He goes to the prom in his dream and suddenly (during the song)this girl walks over to him offering him 2 tickets to a Iron Maiden concert. He can't believe his luck. Then he wakes up.

BRILL!!!

5 out of 5 stars Whoa, Wow, What the heck?.......2000-11-01

Well, When i first listened to this song, i was like, what the heck? o ok...is this a guy or girl singing? and then i found out a guy was singing;but i don't know if the girl part is ACTUALLY a girl part. Hmmm, then i listened to the lyrics more closely, and i was like whoa! Catchy tune, nice beat, great instrumentals and a nice voice. WOW, i was like singing it in school, and i just loved the chorus! "I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby! I listen to Iron Maiden baby, cause i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby! " I love it! I was singing it for a week, then my friends told me to stop, lol! So i recommend that u get this! PLUS, Rock lovers, i think, if u like heavy stuff, don't get this. My friend doesn't this song, and she's soo into rock stuff. I love all kinds of music, so I RECOMMEND IT!!!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good,.......2007-03-14

I ordered this CD awhile ago because I couldn't find many of the songs on it to download, and I particularly loved the song Anyway, which stopped in the the middle of the download. So, I just decided to order the CD. Over all, I like it. The song, Dynomite Satchel Of Pain doesn't catch my interest at all, however. But the rest, I like, with Lemonade and Anyway being my favorites. Wheatus has songs that are so original with catchy tunes you get stuck in your head for hours. None of their songs sound the same. I really like this CD.
