Good-bye Alice is a mixture of sweet orchestral string melodies and ambient sounds such as a slowly receding stream, layered on top of a driving african rhythm. Bohemian Rhapsody starts with a gentle piano interlude before evolving into moods evocative of the beautiful forests and country-side of Bohemia. While traveling through this region I always think of the many great composers such as Schubert, Mozart, and Beethoven that were also inspired by the magical beauty of this region. The piece contains an inspired celtic fiddle jam played by Mark Brissenden. The Red Scarf is an up-beat jazz dance piece that was inspired by the northern african rhythm's of Morocco. Elba is an electronic music composition that starts slowly and evolves through a number of melancholic and joyful feelings.. definitely a piece that evokes moods reflective of our existential state of being. Requiem for the Challenger is an electronic music composition dedicated to the Astronauts that perished on ! the Space Shuttle Challenger. Still Ahead is an electronic jazz piece inspired by the revolutionary melodies and rhythms of Miles Davis. Jemez Sunrise, the last composition on the CD, was inspired by the beauty of New Mexico, in particular the sunrises seen in the Jemez mountains west of Santa Fe. Melting Sun was composed using keyboards, synthesizers, and traditional instrumentation. The song, "Bohemian Rhapsody" contains a fiddle solo by the excellent Celtic musician, Mark Brissenden. The CD contains songs that span several musical styles including Electronica, Classical, “Space Music”, Global Fusion, Jazz and Celtic. The songs use African, Jazz, Rock, Celtic and traditional Native American Indian rhythms.
About the Artist
Patrick Rooney was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA) on February 13, 1955. He attended college at the University of New Mexico where he majored in Music Theory and Composition, graduating in 1978. His instrument specializations are string bass, electric bass, and keyboards. After completing his music degree Patrick studied electronic and jazz music composition at the University of North Texas.
