It's really a shame that this band no longer exists. Somehow the music mainstream missed these guys, and they never really got the huge national following that they deserved.

Turn off your mind relax and float downstream. Entertainment for the mentaly enhanced. The words describe the words as you find a dark room and a few hours with the phone unplugged and doors locked. The fine woven gears of Firesign theatre transport you to forbidden places and celestial visons.

I remember listening to "Waiting for the Electrician" when it came out. Earphones. Sunshine LSD. What's not to like. I lost my vinyl of all the Firesign guys and got replacements recently. Listening 38 years later, it has excatly the same effect. Must be flashbacks. Satire is beyond time. Each self standing one act play defines the language of the piece so that the 60's and 70's lingua via is accessible. The title auditory show is more powerful now than then because they got it all right.

Best Firesign performance ever BUT BEWARE..........2006-04-13

For those of you who know and loved this originally as an LP, you will be disappointed to learn that sony messed up the remix BIG TIME by deleting important dialog at the beginning of the second side of the album (of course, on the cd it would be the second segment). The beginning of the second side IS CRITICAL to the subject of the performance and as best as I can recall, should have begun something like this:

"Welcome to side 4. Please follow along as we learn 3 new words in Turkish.
Towel, Bath, Border...may I see your passport please..." ...
(someone could please tweak this for I know this is not EXACTLY the dialog).

Anyway, you get the idea. The beginning is suppose to be as if you were listening to one of those "Berlitz" language records. Just wish/ hope sony would rectify this REAL SOON!

Oh - it's the Ice Show!

The spy has been in deep cover behind the Iron Curtain. He has just received his hurried direction in clipped sentences, has checked into the Hotel Kafka, and has been intercepted, probed, scoffed at, ignored, and wiretapped.

Then for no reason at all, he goes through a door, and is on the ice at the Berlibber Ice Palatz, to see the Gunatzis Brothers, Hans and Junni, shoot it out with weapons of increasing caliber and fierceness...

It was their first album, and thus one of their more transparent. But side two (sorry, Side Five), remains a masterpiece.

This is one, if not my favorite of the Firesign I've listened to. If you like history you'll love this one. And if you don't, no problem, you'll still get a kick out of it. Lots of great lines, word play and sound effects. A must have!

Inhale The Smoked Out Rhymes (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-05-04

I really haven't been paying attention to Devin The Dude much. The only times I've heard him was on Dr. Dre's "F You" and on Scarface's "Sex Faces" and "In And Out". Dude can drop some nice rhymes judging from those two songs. I finally had a chance to check out his latest album "Waiting To Inhale" (I also purchased "To Tha X-Treme" and "Just Tryin' To Live" as well).

Devin's music has a laid back atmosphere with his slow flow. As many realised, he's in to two things: weed and women. I'm not mad at that A lot of the songs on here are about those two topics, over some slow sounding beats, and it can be enteraining. "She Want That Money" is one of the entertaining tracks that on this album. "I Hope I Don't Get Sick-A-This" and "All Mighty Dollar" has some nice beats that goes with Devin's flow. "Lil' Girl Gone" with Lil Wayne and Bun B is a nice song about little females who end up in very bad situations.

Some tracks I wasn't feeling was "What A Job" even though I love Snoop Dogg and Andre 3000. "Just Because" is a funny but the song itself is so slow, I'm just not feeling it. "Don't Wanna Be Alone" is a long slow don't-leave-me-girl song that has Devin singing, and is hard to build a tollerance for.

Overall, I feel that Devin's fourth album is a very good album. I personally like "To Tha X-Treme" better than this album. I believe that his albums are poorly promoted and are the reason why he gets slept on. Heck, he doesn't even get play in his home state of Texas, or at least not in San Antonio (I used to live there). If he had better promotion, I would believe that at least one of his albums would go gold or maybe platnum. No doubt Devin's talents maybe the best kept secret from Houston (and the only good album to come from there this year), and I recommend that you check out this album, especially if you like to smoke weed. Peace!

I read a review that said that it is impossible to not be turned into an instant fan after listening to a Devin The Dude album and that is so true.

I have never heard any of this Dude's albums even though I always found his guest appearances funny. I decided to take a chance on his latest and I haven't been disappointed at all.

Lyrically Devin is the funniest thing I've ever heard. Its crazy how he can be funny even though he tackles some of the most over used subject matters. For example "She Useta Be" about a girl that was hot when she was young and put on a FEW pounds later on. Another is the Eminem influenced ode to killing his partner. Devin makes these topics fresh again.

Musically the album is very laid back defying the raunchy lyrical content but goes well with his lazy rap flow. Being independent Devin can ignore all rules regarding sampling and he really takes liberties with a wide range of samples which I cannot always place.

The album also scores because of Devin's ability to switch it up and take on more serious topics like on "Lil' Girl Lost" and "What A Job". Both tracks are definite highlights of the album.

Ultimately there is no need to be over analytical on this one, some will hate and some will love it, I just happen to be one of those that love it

I liked this album. I liked a majority of the tracks, great beats and descent lyrics. I liked What a Job, Nothing to Roll With, and Almighty Dollar. A must have!

This is a great remaster of this cd. A previous reviewer wrote of not having the 2nd and 3d guitars, but they are all here and loud and clear on my cd.

I am an old Outlaws fan. And for the most part. There newley releast CDs Are very good. But Lady In Waiting is not. The CD is missing the 2nd & 3rd lead guitar rifs. Witch really sucks for a band who is known for a 3 Guitar Assult!

Another Great Album from the Florida Guitar Army.......2003-04-24

Another great album. You are going to get all the great guitar work and vocal harmony you expect from the boys from Tampa.

There are no big radio numbers on this album, but all the tunes are strong. "Breaker, Breaker" is good country/rock pop, a tune about a man heading home to his woman. "South Carolina", written by now Blackhawk lead singer Henry Paul, is a real country number with some real picking and grinning from Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones.

"Ain't So Bad" is a smooth ballad from Billy Jones and "Freeborn Man" is a real country boogie tune that was written by Paul Revere and the Raiders vocalist Mark Lindsay. Of course, the Outlaws put their signature on this song like only they can.

"Stick Around For Rock and Roll" has all the chops that a guitar connoiseur is looking for. This is the signature guitar tune on the album.

"Lover Boy" and "Just For You" are more strong country rock boogie numbers. "Girl From Ohio" is more of the straight country variety from Henry Paul and "Prisoner" is another smooth number from William Harry Jones.

A good follow up album to their self-titled debut album "Outlaws".

LADY IN WAITING is a great record. It's just as great as BEST OF, BRING IT BACK ALIVE, OUTLAWS, HURRY SUNDOWN, and PLATINUM & GOLD COLLECTION, but is also a wonderful album in its own right. If you loved BEST OF, BRING IT BACK ALIVE, OUTLAWS, HURRY SUNDOWN, or PLATINUM & GOLD COLLECTION, you'll love LADY IN WAITING.

Excellent!! I said this back in the 70s and I hold by it today, this is southern rock at it's finest. "Freeborn Man" and "Stick around for rock & roll" are just a couple tunes on this CD that will get you kickin up your heels. This band is in a class all it's own. Nothin compares, not today, not 30 years ago.

Julia Murney's solo debut I'm Not Waiting shows how much talent lies just below the headlining-superstar level on Broadway. LOVE HER!!.......2007-06-23

I had not heard of Julia Murney prior to seeing her perform as the "Green Girl" in Wicked. Let me just say that her voice is incredible! Everything she sang that evening was incredible. She "felt" the music and this carried over beautifully to the audience. By the time she finshed singing, "Defying Gravity", I had chills. I LOVE that song! I started to purchase the soundtrack to the play and I was informed that she was not singing on that CD, so I opted for her solo project without any hesistation! I must say that I am not sorry that I purchased this project!What clarity she has in her voice. I simply cannot say enough about her. I do plan on returning to NY to see this play again just to see her perform!

I recently traveled to NYC where I thoroughly enjoyed the broadway show Wicked. The music was fantastic and the plot was interesting, but Julia Murney was the feature that made it for me. The first thing I noticed while hearing her sing, was the wonderful, rich tone of her voice. The passion and feeling conveyed through her vocals is breathtaking. Her range is phenomenal, when she sings soft and low you are filled with warmth. When she sings in her powerful upper range you get chills. With every song she sings she demands your attention to the lyrics. I ordered this album as soon as I could after the broadway performance.

Julia Murney not only has one of the best voices I've heard in a long time, it's also one of the most unique. Although I'm familiar with her work in the theatre, this album proves that she is comfortable with other musical styles; country, pop, whatever Joni Mitchell is.
She has, possibly, the most power I've heard in any singer, and a natural acting ability which makes her songs poignant and emotional. The arrangements turn old favourites into something new. The first song on the cd, a mix between Annie Lennox's A Thousand Beautiful Things and U2's A Beautiful Day is absolutely staggering. I'm Not Waiting, the title track, was written directly for Julia and she utterly blows it away. For her theatre fans, there are a couple of tracks from The Wild Party (a highly underappreciated musical), one of which was cut from the show, and I'm Not That Girl, from Wicked (which Julia is currently starring in on Broadway)

Overall, this is a fabulous album, her low notes will make you melt, and her versatility will surprise a lot of music-lovers.

I've seen this young lady on stage and heard the real power of her voice. The CD reveals much more of her range. A really excellent singer and the mix of material is very entertaining.

Having worn out my copy of the original off-broadway cast album of Andrew Lippa's Wild Party, you can imagine my excitement when Julia Murney's first solo album was released. The album is gorgeous with songs we have never heard plus new arrangements of songs we love including Raise the Roof from The Wild Party. Julia's voice is unlike any other voice in the musical theatre today. It has a ferocity unmatched by anyone but also has a sweet vulnerability that can break the strongest of hearts. (The song Perfect)I highly recommend this album to anyone who is sick of the same old tired broadway singers.

Before Aretha Screamed.......2007-06-12

This is Aretha's beginning recordings, remastered and sounded better than ever. Before she had her hits on Atlantic records, screaming her way to the top, Aretha sang a bit more subdoed. She still shines as she tries on more musical stylings than her usual R&B. She is surrounded by a Jazz quartet on some songs here but the real gems are the almost hits, "Running
Out Of Fools" being one of her best. (It was even covered by Elvis Costello.) There are two versions of "Skylark" and both are excellent versions that showcase a remarkable singer. Aretha plays piano on a few cuts and her singing is pure. If you ever wondered what it would be like to hear her just sing without screaming, look no further. The liner notes are a good read as well. Two cd's full of her best moments from her early years. You have to Respect that.

don't try to tell me about how aretha franklin was unhappy singing the broadway and popular standards john hammond gave her to sing at columbia. if she hated them, she wouldn't have put at least one on each of her atlantic recordings or done them in concert.

while i am still waiting for a re-release of 'the tender, the moving, the swinging' on cd, this compilation will more than pass muster. there are so many treasures, including her own song 'without the one you love'. i don't have any particular favorites. i love them all. and maybe one day, more people will start to love them too!

Fascinating and revealing..........2004-08-19

For those fans who aren't familiar with Aretha's Columbia work, this collection will be a revelation. I agree with another reviewer that Aretha sometimes sounds uncomfortable and that the arrangements are often conventional and forgettable. Still, within these constraints, Aretha is a force of nature! She frequently transcends the material, especially when she stops trying to sound like Dinah Washington and allows her gospel training to take over. I defy anyone to not get chills when she connects with the spirit. This collection loses points for pedestrian material and arrangements, but it's still valuable as a testament to Aretha's overwhelming talent. Well worth owning.

Maybe Not The Queen Of Soul But Ever So Appealing.......2003-05-29

Although I'm a huge Aretha Franklin fan, for years I've steared clear of the Columbia recordings. Critics have accused Columbia Execs of misguiding the fledging talent of young Aretha and choosing material ill-suited to her gospel roots. Yes some of this material is questionable at best. Take for instance the English ballard Lee Cross or the Tin Pan Alley standard Bill Bailey. Aretha sounds uninspired and uncomfortable. But there is much here to relish as we hear this oh so promising 19 year old working her way through Maybe I'm A Fool, Today I Sing The Blues and Try A Little Tenderness.

True Jerry Wexler and Atlantic Records tapped into the vast resevouir of Areatha's talent by putting her gospel roots up front and backing her up with the deft rhythm section of the Muscle Shoals Swamppers. However, I find these early sides ever so refreshing. Had Areatha continued along this path, I believe her vast talent would have ultimately won her an audience. She may have not become the Queen Of Soul, but she would have found a place in the hearts of those who enjoy great R&B singers the likes of Dinah Washington, Nancey Wilson and Carmen McRea. Kudos to Columbia for assembling this very appealing package.
