      4 out of 5 stars a weekly event.......2004-09-15

BBE is Bruno Sanchioni, Bruno Quartier, and Emmanuel Top. If you're new to this song, Seven Days And One Week was an old hit in the late 90s. It's a treat to have both old and new remixes featured on one CD-Single. There's bound to be something for everyone. As for me, The Rollo And Sister Bliss Remix is pure bliss. Being a percussion fan, I'm obsessed with their remix. The first few minutes consists of excellent drums over a strange ambiance. Then the classic Seven Days.. theme takes over. Trippy, man.

5 out of 5 stars The Complete "Seven Days And One Week"...!.......2004-01-12

For a long time, I had been searching here and there for this timeless classic gem, especially with the remixes...well, what can I say, my prayers have finally been answered by Positiva records re-release of "Seven Days and One Week" in 2003, which includes the original versions plus new mixes by Ferry Corsten and Tomcraft. They are actually 9 versions on this CD single which are:

      1. Radio Edit 4:11
      2. Club Mix 8:23
      3. Ferry Corsten Remix 7:03
      4. Tomcraft Remix 6:15
      5. The Rollo and Sister Bliss Remix 7:34
      6. Moguai Remix 11:50
      7. Kai Tracid Remix 7:58
      8. Dex And Jonesey Philharmonic Mix 6:50
      9. Andy Dux and Hoschi Remix 6:02

My only advise is buy this limited cd, while supplies last..it is a great bargain, the only mix it did not include was the "Sindaar Remix", which is a chillout ambient version heard on most chillout, dream house compilations...

5 out of 5 stars "Broadway Shows from the 1960's ~ Percy Faith".......2004-02-23

Percy Faith blends two award winning Broadway Shows together "Subways Are For Sleeping" (originally released on Columbia Records CS 8533 in 1961) and "Do I Hear A Waltz?" (originally released on Columbia Records CS 9117 in 1965), following the formula of previous albums from the vault of rare finds ~ two more winners are under the baton of the Maestro.

First twelve tracks "Subways Are For Sleeping", featuring the songs of Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Jule Styne with outstanding arrangements on very catchy tunes ~ like "BE A SANTA", "COMES ONCE IN A LIFETIME", "GETTING MARRIED", "HOW CAN YOU DESCRIBE A FACE?", "I JUST CAN'T WAIT", "I SAID IT AND I'M GLAD", "I'M JUST TAKING MY TIME", "NOW I HAVE SOMEONE", "RIDE THROUGH THE NIGHT", "WHAT IS THIS FEELING IN THE AIR?", "WHEN YOU HELP A FRIEND OUT" and "WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN?", all have the hallmark sound and the authentic "Percy Faith Touch" on every selections.

Second twelve tracks ~ "Do I Hear A Waltz", featuring the tunes of Richard Rodgers and Stephen Soundheim enhanced by the performances of arranger/conductor Percy Faith and his Orchestra ~ "A PERFECTLY LOVELY COUPLE", "DO I HEAR A WALTZ?", "HERE WE ARE AGAIN", "MOON IN MY WINDOW", "NO UNDERSTAND", "SOMEONE LIKE YOU", "STAY", "TAKE THE MOMENT", "THANK YOU SO MUCH", "THINKING", "THIS WEEK AMERICANS" and "WE'RE GONNA BE ALL RIGHT", enamored to the luxurious sound of Faith's string arrangements ~ you're immediately hooked on these tracks ~ marvelous performances enthralling listener's for some fifty years.

The people at Collectables should be commended for bringing back some of Maestro Faith's best works on compact disc ~ there is so much more in the vast vaults, hopefully there will be more to follow...gotta love it!

Strong songs and tight band, propel solution a.d. through 4 well written alt./rock tunes. in the vein of lemonheads, live, cracker.

1 out of 5 stars Lacks musical talent, very typical wannabe sound........1998-12-23

This sounds like a group trying to catch the grunge seen years after it has come and gone. The musical talent is almost non-existant except for the drummer who seems technically perfect, but needs to learn to play with everyone else once in a while. Bottom line: I've heard better neighborhood garage bands, definately ones with more heart.

With Frisell on acoustic and electric guitars, Kermit Driscoll on basses, and Joey Baron on percussion and drums, this disc offers a somewhat delirious blend of experimental jazz to accompany two Buster Keaton films, The High Sign and One Week. Frisell firmly believes that jazz is the best musical accompaniment to Keaton's brooding and often intellectual slapstick, but his compositions dare the listener to impose very modern sounds over comedies from an era associated more with quaint singsong ballads and playful ragtime. Many not initiated into jazz esoterica may find Frisell's militantly unmelodic improvisations anachronistic, distracting, and perhaps even too highbrow for Keaton's good-natured pop-culture spirit. The musicians may be having fun, but what about the potential movie audience? --Joseph Lanza

This music does not accompany the Keaton films; it competes with it.

While it may be okay jazz, it is very poor film music.

      4 out of 5 stars Short & sweet.......2002-09-21

Bill Frisell released this disc in tandem with his music for a 3rd Keaton film, _Go West_. Unwary consumers might assume that if they're looking for the better deal in terms of CD length, they should get this one, since it's got music to two films....but in fact this CD doesn't even break the 40-minute mark, as _The High Sign_ & _One Week_ were shorts while _Go West_ was a full-length feature. That said, a CD's value usually has little to do with its duration, & of the two discs I actually strongly prefer this one.

They are very different. _Go West_ has a few skeletal themes--riffs, really--that are cycled through in order to match the peaks & troughs of the film's narrative. It's an album that is mostly carried by Frisell's extended soloing, sometimes bittersweet or comically lugubrious, sometimes fiercely discordant & rhapsodic. _High Sign/One Week_ is quite different, more gentle & subtle, with less focus on prolonged or hard-edged soloing, & with more focus on the acoustic guitar. I've seen Frisell perform _One Week_ in tandem with the film, & it works surprisingly well; as a standalone CD it also is quite effective.

It's a pity that the freewheeling energy of the Frisell/Driscoll/Baron trio was never caught in the studio: these two somewhat sepia-toned Keaton projects are the only studio recordings by the group, & to get a sample of their more varied & off-the-wall treatments of other material you need to turn to the Gramavision _Live_ disc or the handful of trio tracks on _Have a Little Faith_ (especially the bizarre, over-the-top cover of Madonna's "Live to Tell"). Still, this is a lovely, very playable disc which I've always listened to with pleasure.

      5 out of 5 stars Great CD!!.......2003-08-07

This is a must for all trombonists and music historians!! The sound of these groups is just amazing! Nowhere else can you get a sound like you do with the instruments that these trombonists use. Where else can you hear a contrabass, bass, tenor, alto, soprano, and sopranino trombones all together? A great CD for a historical reference on the trombone also...tromobone chiors are one of the oldest forms of music, and THE oldest perfoming groups in the USA are the Moravian trombone choirs. This CD gives us a rare look into the past of how trombones were commonly used in centuries past, and how the tradition continues today.

5 out of 5 stars Favorite Moravian chorales from childhood........1999-11-20

Trombone choirs! I love them. Everytime I hear this recording, I see again the church of my childhood and the trombone choir standing out in the snow near the front steps playing Christmas chorales during the hour before the Christmas Eve service. Why were they out there a full hour before the service? If you wanted a seat, you had to arrive an hour early, because late comers sat in folding chairs in the cloakrooms, or stood in the back. That church was filled to brimming only on Christmas Eve, because music lovers came from miles away to hear traditional Moravian Christmas music, and where else could one possibly hear it? Some of it is on this recording. The words sung to track 8 are "All my heart this night rejoices...", and that sense of anticipation and pleasure is exactly what Moravians feel as they enjoy a night of great music, sung mostly by the people in the pews, not just the choirs. It's all here. The great songs from Advent, Lent, songs of repentance, forgiveness, joy, for baptising babies and burying old people. When you hear track 19, Hosanna, think of a room full of singers on Palm Sunday, echoing back and forth to each other, the little girls and women singing back to the boys and men. My only criticism is that there are perhaps too many songs in minor keys grouped together. They evoke too much sadness and start to sound like endless dirges. The musical interpretation and masterful rendering of the chorales is absolutely delightful, not only for us who hold all the words in our heads and are singing along, but also for those who will assign their own meaning to the music.

The Power Of A Hat is an eclectic selection of some of the oddest semi-funk, semi-pop, semi-jazz, always quirky music you'll ever have the chance to hear. It's certainly quite different from Gunnar Madsen's work with The Bobs, and it is a joy to hear how varied Mr. Madsen's talents really are. The song "The Pants" is alone worth the cost of this CD.
