Definitely in my top 5 of all time!!.......2005-02-19
I actually own the CD "Without The Aid Of A Net". As mentioned in another review, the tracks are exactly the same on this CD.
I have followed a lot of bands and I have seen a lot of live shows throughout the years. This CD has the most magic and positive energy of any live record or CD that I have ever heard (Frampton Comes Alive is probably the only other album that comes close).
I highly recommend it - music written and played straight from the heart - I play it anytime that I feel like experiencing some magic.
Starts off acoustic and then gets into heavier tracks. The first 6 tracks just meld together into a powerful acoustic energy boost. From 7 to 14, it almost seems like the 2nd part of a journey.
Shame about Stuart - but he has left a legacy.
Try it - you'll like it!!
Not as Good as the Skids Were...But Good.......2000-08-16
Where is "Fields of Fire"? It's my favorite BC song and sounds like an 18th century Scottish army storming out of the hills to crush the invading English armies. Anyway...this is a decent live record and BC were a good band. I much perfer their older albums. "The Crossing" is the best. Having said that, I perfer Stuart Adamson's old band, the Skids to anything BC ever did.
Pretty god Scottish folkrock.......1999-11-28
Big Country is maybe the most known band fusioning Scottish folk with rock. »The Greatest Hits Live« is exactly what the title says... but their best song ever (AND greatest hit ever, I believe?) »Fields Of Fire« is missing!
Most of the songs are quite OK, and the charming Scottish remarks from the lead singer plus the faithful home crowd makes this a real LIVE album.
Fourteen songs, however, is a bit too much of the same genre - the biggest disadvantage of CD's in general remains that the selection of songs is not selective enough!
Oddly, »The Greatest Hits Live« becomes better and better towards the end of the album; the last five songs are the best ones. The highlights are »Ships« and »Lost Patrol«!
Awesome.......1999-11-05
This album is Big Country at their stupendous best. The power and passion shines through, from the quiet haunting melody of Ships, right through to the power of the signature track "In A Big Country". I have been lucky enough to see these guys live several times, and believe me this album captures their live set superbly. Summing up... BUY IT!
THIS LIVE CD ROCKS!!!!.......1999-08-17
KNOWING BIG COUNTRY FROM THE 80'S WITH THEIR COUPLE U.S. RADIO HITS...IN A BIG COUNTRY,PEACE IN OUR TIME I NEVER REALLY HAD THE CHANCE TO HEAR ANY OF THEIR OTHER CUTS. I AM GLAD I BOUGHT THIS DISC, IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY. THIS CD REALLY SHOWCASES THEIR MUSICIANSHIP, NOT TO MENTION EVERY SONG IS GREAT. THE HAUNTING "JUST A SHADOW" TO THE FAST PACED "LONG WAY HOME" ARE JUST TWO OF MY FAVORITES. THIS CD IS A GREAT ADDITION TO YOUR CD COLLECTION!!!!
