Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Decent selection, bad sound.......2006-10-15

As much as Lou Reed needs a comprehensive anthology of his 70s and 80s work, none of the existing ones quite do the trick. One problem is that often one person's favorite Reed record is another person's least favorite (like Coney Island Baby, Berlin, The Bells, etc.), so song selection will always be controversial. Reed's own hand-picked best of is case in point, not many fans agreed with his choices.

This one has the advantage of sprawling over two discs so it can nominally please more people, but the disadvantage of sounding like a not-so-good bootleg. I assume this is a legit release, but it's nowhere near today's remastering standards, and sounds like it was slapped together from whatever sources happened to be handy in the Netherlands at the time. Although this has some hidden gems from obscure or out of print Reed records like Berlin or New Sensations, and is pretty cheap, you'd be much better off with the NYC Man collection which has 80% of the same tracks and much better sound.

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2001-02-04

just look at the song list...its like reading a list of Bowie or Beatles songs...can you believe one guy wrote so many of them ?
