Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
Cleverness is a delicate thing: go too far and it becomes self-parody; bury it too deep and it will be interpreted literally. Toronto's Barenaked Ladies have been walking this tightrope through five albums and, on their sixth, they continue to balance smirking social commentary with genuine emotion. The Ladies make their digs both lyrically and musically. "Conventioneers" unfurls the story of two people who relinquish their office-place sexual tension at a convention where a game of Scrabble over drinks leads to the bathtub, the bed, and the inevitable morning-after regret. Set in a lights-down-low groove, we all get a good snicker at the expense of two lonely suits. Likewise, "Go Home" commands a wandering-eyed country boy to return to his woman in a hearty, twangy romp. The disc is fleshed out with the band's dense, XTC-influenced jangle rock. This is the stuff that pasty, hopelessly undersexed white males drum up, half-delirious after endless Saturday-night binges on Dr. Who and Fawlty Towers marathons. It's self-righteous, verbose, and frustrated, yet defensively cautious enough to mask the lurking bitterness in terribly pleasant, melodious pop. --Beth Massa --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Sometimes it's O.K.--even important--to put aside your reluctance to embrace artists who make teenage girls scream. It happened in 2006, when Justin Timberlake scraped the sludge off pop and left something shiny behind, and it's happening again in 2007 with Maroon 5. It Won't Be Soon Before Long, the L.A. band's sophomore studio disc, rode in on a crest of hype and crumpled expectations--fan reports had it that Adam Levine & Co. scrapped their signature pop-soul sound for something harder and darker. Not so. Shades of Prince, Hall & Oates, and Sting still color the Maroon sound (check out the spectacularly fizzy "Little of Your Time," as well as the first single, "Makes Me Wonder," a song catchier than fire), but they're made ever fainter here by the clamping down of five guys on what is essentially the most distinctive pop sound to emerge from a single band since the Bee Gees squealed into the mid-'70s. It Won't Be Soon squares hip-hop sensibilities ("Wake Up Call") with rock ones ("If I Never See Your Face Again") and stormy moods ("Can't Stop") with bittersweet ballads ("Better That We Break"). It's a disc destined to defy detractors and go on to greatness, elevating the credibility of teenage girls for years to come. --Tammy La Gorce

Global neo-soul rock superstars Maroon 5 are back with their much-anticipated sophomore album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long. The follow-up to the 10x platinum, Grammy-winning Songs About Jane will be "sexier and stronger," according to frontman Adam Levine, who looked to '80s icons such as Prince, Michael Jackson, and Talking Heads for inspiration. Recorded at home in Los Angeles with producers Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Eminem), Mark "Spike" Stent (Bjork, Keane, Gwen Stefani), Mark Endert (Madonna, Fiona Apple), and Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Nickel Creek), the album promises to be a louder take on the pop sounds of their first effort. "It's definitely aggressive, upbeat and pounding," says Levine.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!!.......2007-07-25

This is one of my favorite cds ever!!!! I absolutely love it and listen to in driving home from work like everyday of the week!!! Every song is good not like most cds where you have a couple of good songs and then mostly fillers!!!! Amazing would definitely recommend!!!

5 out of 5 stars Different, but not........2007-07-24

While I have never really considered myself a big Maroon 5 "fan", I have really enjoyed "Songs About Jane" and was looking forward to this release. Upon hearing the first single "Makes Me Wonder", I was wondering 'should I even bother taking the chance'. Honestly, I wasn't going to buy it, but iTunes had a great deal with presale concert tickets, so I took the plunge.

After more than half a dozen listens, this album has REALLY grown on me. I was hoping for something like "Songs About Jane", but this was something really different, yet distinctly Maroon 5. I have heard the comparisons to some of the smooth-rock/pop icons from the 70's and 80's, and I totally agree, in a good way. This album is a bit more Pop than SAJ, every song still carries the signatures of Maroon 5; groovy bass lines, a good hook, angst vs. love lyrics, and beautiful harmony between the lyrics and music. Of course not every song is gold, but I think there is something here to satisfy a variety of casual and die-hard fans.

There's enough here that I finally have to declare myself a true fan.

5 out of 5 stars It's a creeper!.......2007-07-21

This is my pick for best new album of 2007. To date at least. Initially, I wasn't a big fan, certainly didn't think much of the first single, but I love it now! The album has it's trademark up tempo songs and not to forget, the wonderful ballads of love and heartache.

Standouts for me are "Back at your Door", a cruisy, bluesy awesome track, "Not Falling Apart", "Little of your Time", "Can't Stop", "Until You're Over Me" (bonus track on Australian release) "Infatuation" (another bonus track) and I have to say, "Makes Me Wonder" has really grown on me too.

There is a song here for everyone to relate to, and a song for every mood. I haven't stopped listening to it since it's release. I love it!

Do yourself a favour and buy it :-)

3 out of 5 stars Not So Much.......2007-07-20

This CD is not what I had expected it to be. I enjoy listening to most of the CD but there are some songs that I choose to skip.

Maroon 5 aren't the first band to fuse R&B and rock, but they certainly are one of the most convincing. One can almost hear Stevie Wonder's beaded braids clattering in time to their deep, funky grooves. At best, the band conjures up latter-day Motown, complete with a shuddering organ and hyperbolic vocals; at worst, they sound like a stylized boy band, with all the attendant close harmonies and dramatic pauses. But despite these musical schisms, Maroon 5 are a thoroughly engaging outfit, thanks to throbbing bass lines, hooky songs, and lead singer Adam Levin's swaggering delivery. --Jaan Uhelszki

I usually listen to country or classic rock but I had heard a few Maroon 5 songs and liked them. I am so glad I took a chance and bought this CD. All I can say is AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! They have such a cool, unique sound. I highly recommend this CD.

4 out of 5 stars rock guy.......2007-06-27

not as good as the second cd. the tracks tangled and harder to breathe are great alternative rock songs.

5 out of 5 stars A classic for any music fan!!!.......2007-06-24

After hearing the second album in it's entirety, I had to buy this one immediately. In an age where it seems like 2-3 songs are single-worthy and all the rest is filler, it's absolutely refreshing to find two CD's that I don't want to skip ANY of the songs! Each album is as close to near perfect in their own different ways. I can't find fault with 5 guys who sing, write, and play their own stuff and you can't fault them for finding commercial success. They do an amazing job of writing evocative lyrics, blending all of their instruments so that no one person stands out, while Levine adds his haunting and individual voice on top. Add everything together and it's no wonder this album is such a staple for a music fan's collection regardless of their favorite genre.

Noted English screenwriter Richard Curtis makes his directorial bow with this romantic comedy that follows the dizzying foibles of no less than a dozen couples, featuring a cast that includes Hugh Grant as a bachelor British PM and Billy Bob Thornton as a disturbing hybrid of the worst of Clinton and Bush. Seemingly taking its lead from Bridget Jones's Diary and its sequel (both of which Curtis also wrote), Love's rich, eclectic collection of pop songs becomes something more than mere movie-soundtrack wallpaper. Indeed, tracks as disparate as Joni Mitchell's hauntingly autumnal remake of "Both Sides Now" and the Pointer Sisters' effusive '80s hit "Jump" function somewhere between supporting player and narrative Greek chorus. It's a mature, often introspective collection that mixes the expected chestnuts (the Beach Boys' evergreen "God Only Knows") and covers (Eva Cassidy's stately version of Christine McVie's "Songbird," an R&B-infused take of "All You Need Is Love" by Lynden David Hall) with standout work from Norah Jones (a torched-up "Turn Me On"), Texas (the Dusty Springfield-esque dramatics of "I'll See It Through"), and Wyclef Jean's joyous "Take Me As I Am." Underscoring the film's Christmas subtext are three holiday-themed bonus cuts by Otis Redding, Billy Mack (the film's resident rock star burnout, played by Bill Nighy), and Olivia Olson. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars My complaint about Amazon.com.......2007-07-25

Note: Because I am unable to have my complaints addressed by Amazon, I will continue to post the following note on Amazon.com:

I just received the very late e-mail saying that the
order I placed on JUNE 6, 2007 cannot be filled until OCTOBER 4,
2007. This is the most irresponsible customer service that I have
had in a very long time. Not only did you fail to correspond with
me for nearly two months, you now have the audacity to suggest that
the earliest you can deliver this book is the fall of this year!?
This irresponsible (and flippant) response is breathtaking in its
cavalier attitude, where you say "either accept a delivery date four
months late or we will cancel your order". You should have
responded within a week at the most that you were having difficulty
obtaining the book so that I would no longer rely on you to get it
to me and I could then look elsewhere for it.
>
> I would suggest that you should send me the book that you promised
(and I believe I already paid for) ASAP. You could do a Google
search and find a copy (perhaps on your own site!) or you could call
the publisher in China and (at your expense) have them FED-X it to
you for delivery to me. But the one thing you shouldn't do is send
such a cavelier e-mail to me six weeks after I order from you and at
least several weeks after I had expected delivery. This is a rich
example of the incompetent arrogance of Amazon; one that will be
displayed prominently on the internet for some time to come if you
are not able to remedy this situation soon.

To add insult to injury, when I responded to the e-mail message, I recieved a conflicting e-mail from a "Mohan". Typically, I could not communicate back to him (or her) and was left to my own devices in the Amazon.

2 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment.......2007-07-15

This review is for the American CD. I loved the movie and after viewing it for the first time immediately watched it again. I read on this site that some listeners were disappointed with the soundtrack, but I couldn't resist purchasing it anyway because I couldn't live without the Billy Mack song. Given the subject of the movie, I will call the CD a "heartbreaking" disappointment. The three Christmas songs are included here, but are listed as "bonus tracks," which indicates that the director of the movie didn't understand what the audience wanted from the soundtrack. "All I want for Christmas is You" and most especially Billy Mack's song "Christmas is all around us" are not just seasonal holiday songs within the context of this movie--they are the ultimate love songs. Everyone in the movie was great, but can there be many viewers who didn't feel Billy Mack was the center of the story? Yes, little kids with crushes, a widowed man who apparently finds another love quite quickly (Claudia Schiffer to boot), and young couples getting together are all very sweet. But the heartbreak of unrequited love, a married woman who realizes her husband is thinking about another woman and Billy Mack save the movie from being just too cute. Billy Mack was a mid-fifties, superficial, "ex heroin addict struggling for a comeback at any price" who figures out what love is and shares it with another human being, albeit not in a romantic relationship. Billy Mack (along with the unreturned love story line and the Emma Thompson story) lifted the movie out of the realm of cliches. The movie starts with Billy Mack and his song, which underscores the struggle for love that everyone in the movie is going through. But the song was gutted of its joy in the soundtrack version--very little use of the backup singers. Instead of including tracks that I don't think were even in the movie, this song should have been played at length, perhaps in two versions. The beginning of the movie with the song and the conversational interjections would have been a creative addition to the soundtrack. Another song gutted of its joy is "All you need is love"--the surprising and lovely orchestration in the movie was replaced with trite clapping on the soundtrack. At least the director couldn't mess with the Beach Boys and Joni, whose song underscored the tale of marital infidelity. But if you want to experience the joy of human beings taking the risk of "getting the s*** kicked out of us by love," watch the movie again. Don't waste your money on the soundtrack. When will directors figure out that audiences want the sound tracks just as they were in the movie?

3 out of 5 stars Love Actually CD from Movie.......2007-05-30

CD is fine, but some of the music that was in the movie does not exist on the CD.... Too bad,,,,

If you even just liked the movie you will love the sound track. There were a couple of songs that I didn't even remember from the movie but it was awesome.

The movie was great. Although, not for kids to watch. But the movie was fun, funny and heart warming. The sound track is terrific. Great songs.

5 out of 5 stars Great Band and Great Music for Maroon 5 Lovers.......2007-07-14

I had the pleasure of seeing these guys in concert in 2003 when they opened for Matchbox 20. I had not heard their music before then, and now I am a huge fan. Adam Levine has vocals that haven't been heard in a long time. The debut album "Songs About Jane" was awesome, and every song was as good as the one before. It is sooo hard to find an album that you can say that about. The Acoustic CD was a wonderful example on Adam's voice, he doesn't need very much electrical to sound good, he can prove it on this CD. A must for all Maroon 5 fans

1 out of 5 stars Bon Scott must be rolling over in his grave........2005-08-26

i don't really like Maroon 5 (too popular), but some of the songs are ok, as my friends made me listen to this album (torture). Highway to Hell is an insult to AC/DC members. It is a nice song with a truly memorable riff. The guitars here, though, have too much bass and sound as though someone has too much phelgm in his throat. Dums are too punkish, not metal enough. Now, if you want to play music by a band in the rock n roll hall of fame, which is heavy metal, but don't sound metal enough, why play it?

5 out of 5 stars This is a must have!!!!.......2005-06-23

I really love this cd. It showcases the extreme talent of the band. It is a rarity for me to love all the songs on any cd, but I am very happy with this and the other 2 cds that I have of theirs. I love the Beatles cover, as they are one of my favs also.

5 out of 5 stars Maroon 5: Music for lovers & Romantics.......2005-04-21

Someone special in my life recently introduced me to Maroon 5 as this band was her all time favourite group - and I can see why. I have fallen in love with this band and I Maroon 5 ins fast becoming one of my favourite listened too bands next to The Calling, Staind and Lifehouse. Listening to the acoustic versions of the hits from Maroon 5 like This Love, Sunday Morning, She Will Be Loved, shows how talented this group of young men are. The lead vocalist has an amazing voice that is heard to its glory in the acoustic version of the album.

This is a must for any fan of Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down or Audioslave. All the songs are special but the one's I mentioned are my favourites, sung with a deep melancholy and a strong sense of passion.

this is by far one of the finest pieces of music i have heard from this band! thought many think live or acoustic think they sound terrrible, this is the way the got a recording contract and it is nice to hear them doing what they love to do... perform 5*!

5 out of 5 stars An Awesome Live Band, These guys Kill!!.......2007-07-05

I Am watching dvd Version of this Right Now, and Maroon 5 Are a Killer LIVE Band as well, as excellent Recording artist!! You will get 2 Discs with this package, 1 for Dvd Concert, and cd for Concert Songs. They Are both Awesome, is the only way to describe both!! And Just so you dont think im some teen age follower, im 32. They Appeal to anyone Regardless of Age in my Opinion! Of course most of these are the same songs from songs about jane album, but there all totally live, and the fact that you also get the Dvd is a no brainer! So if your fans and Dont have time to get to a concert, or just want the live version , Dont wait it is definetly worth the price!! Peace all.

2 out of 5 stars great band, badly mixed.......2006-10-15

The dvd is good. I love their music and they perform with plenty of energy and emotion. It's good to see them stretch out musically on some of their songs. My complaint is with the CD. The music is poorly mixed. It seems to be a straight transfer of the dvd soundtrack, which any one with xillisoft or similar software could have done for themselves, although possibly not, given what previous reviewers have alerted us to about the copy protection software. Anyway, my point is that the cd hasn't been remixed for dedicated audio listening. As a result the crowd noise is way too loud all the way through every song. It is like listening to the cd in a room full of crickets and mosquitos, on a windy night next to a freeway by the ocean. The poor quality of the mix extends to the balancing of the instrument levels. In some songs the lead guitar sits out clear and strong and in others it is swamped by the rest of the band, robbing songs of their climactic moments.
A disappointing effort from a greaty band.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, Great concert.......2006-03-27

This is one awesome band, incredible musicians, the down and dirty lyrics remind me of some of the great R&B stuff back in the day. And Adam Levine's voice, you ain't gonna get him confused with anyone else.

The CD has been in my car's player since I took it out of the package. Like someone else said, I can play it over and over and not get tired of the music.

I hope these guys are around a long time

1 out of 5 stars Content/ Copy-Protected CD - Rubbish.......2006-03-06

This spoilt it for me. I work away allot and couln't wait to download this on my ipod, which does actually copy, but the playback is messed up.
I bought this album and every other album I have on my Ipod and I should have the choice as to where I want to listen to it.
Secondly I hate the fact that it automtically installs software on my PC.
Don't buy it if you want to listen to it on you IPod.

Hold up. New CD coming 5/22 but I'm still rockin' this.
Great, great, great CD! Nuff said.

5 out of 5 stars Love all their songs!!.......2006-04-29

I love this cd and i bought the piano music for it. The book isn't very good though because it doesn't have the song on it that i bought it for. I wanted to learn "Rag Doll" but it doesn't have it on it and that was the whole purpose for buying it. I tried learning it by ear but it is soooo hard. I bought the cd for "this love" and "she will be loved" but i'm so sick of them now. The best ones are secret (skip the first like minute it's practically nothing), through with you, not coming home and ofcourse rag doll. Maroon 5 is the best.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome cd.......2005-10-26

I can listen to this cd all the way through wihtout pressing skip, yay. Their style is very unique. Overall I love the cd...especialy the songs This Love, Harder to Breathe, She Will be Loved, Sunday Morning, Through With You, and Sweetest Goodbye. The bonus Track RagDoll is really good, I wonder why it wasn't on their non import cd. The remixes are ok, but a nice edition to the cd considering the import version cost the same as the regular cd.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Album!.......2005-08-21

I will admit that I usually don't buy albums from groups/artists who get lots of airplay in mainstream radio. I figure that I hear it enough in malls, and TV, etc. - so why bother buying the CD? So in this case I opted for the Import edition of "Songs About Jane"; but even so (comparing it with the standard version's track listing), the album is great!

Without getting into the specific tracks to much, I will just say that I was just blown away by the vocal skill and versatility of Adam Levine. On some tracks the group dips into poppy hip-hop a-la N'Sync (which is fine in small doses!) and on other tracks they sound very soulful and jazzy. The musicianship also sticks out in that many of the groups nowadays will not change key, or meter like Maroon 5 does. The acoustic versions are also a nice bonus. It gives the album that exclusive underground feel you don't get from the radio singles.

20 years from now when people talk about the music from 2003, I'm sure that "Song About Jane" will be on that list.

--Beth Massa

5 out of 5 stars Love this.......2007-06-30

God do I love this album, for the fun, the poignancy and sheer variety. Pinch Me is fantastic, how it swings and catches you with that hook, and it's crazy lyrics and their unique approach to depression, and yet its such an accurate one. Conventioneers is heartbreaking about being so in love and then how it sours. Sell, Sell, Sell sells itself on a great story of acting and selling out, and Baby Seat just flows. I love Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel, which is weird because it sounds a bit like carnival music (to me) but he's singing about the car flipping over and the driver dying (all along singing 'you were the last thing on my mind,' love the irony!), and that hidden track Hidden Sun, which bobs along in a melancholy yet hopeful manner. If I'm down in the dumps I put this album on and the songs let me indulge my feelings a bit and pull me out of the black just by feeling that there are souls out there who can put how I feel into song and lyric. I can't judge this exactly from a musical perspective, but it's a balm for the blues.

5 out of 5 stars Strong and Consistent.......2006-12-18

This may be the least diverse album that BNL has released to date, but that probably is not a bad quality to have considering how broad a stroke they can sometimes paint. This album is chock full of hits and features many great tunes. I especially like Too Little Too Late, Never Do Anything, Pinch Me, Go Home, Falling for the First Time, Sell, Sell, Sell, Humor of the Situation, Off the Hook and Helicopters. Those are all first rate, 5-star songs in my opinion, and for those scoring at home, that also includes the first 5 songs on the album in succession. The rest of the album is just dandy as well, the only remaining song I have rated below a 4 is Baby Seat, which I have at a 3. Sell, Sell, Sell and Helicopters seem infinitely more relevant today than when this CD was released, which is quite sad. I'm pleased to report that the Ladies haven't backed away from its subtle mocking of the despicable Bush regime in later albums; if anything, it's increased, and possibly become even more subtle (see: Shopping on Everything to Everyone).

The only complaint I have about the album is that it does seem highly produced, and the sound doesn't seem as crisp as some of their other work. The quality of music itself doesn't really suffer from it, but it just seems muddy at times. There is a lot going on a lot of times in a lot of times, and songs like Pinch Me are a nice change of pace. The rhythms in a lot of songs remain pretty straightforward, but the melodies and harmonies get intricate at times, which may add to the muddiness I described.

In closing, this is a great CD, and a great addition to anyone's collection, and for new fans to the band, this is definitely one of the first albums i'd recommend picking up. Longtime fans certainly won't be disappointed, though this is possibly one of the most "pop"ish albums the band has. The writing, as always with BNL is terrific, and the vocals are top notch.

Overall: Strong 5 (93% - 4.67 / 5)

"A world that loves its irony must hate the protest singer"

5 out of 5 stars Solid from top to bottom (but solider at the top).......2006-09-16

The first five tracks on this album are incredible. I can't think of a more rocking stretch on any other BNL album. The opening electric riff from "Too Little Too Late" sets the pace. The smart alecky "Never Do Anything" follows up with great lines like "I could make mint/Fill my pockets with more than lint/I'll give you a hint/It involves the internet".

I absolutely love "Pinch Me", a song about not wanting to grow up (replete with dopey, but perfect, "under where?" joke). Then you have the jangly, lilting "Go Home" followed by "Falling For the First Time".

Then the album slows down with "Conventioneers". This isn't a bad thing, though because all the remaining tracks are good. They just work on a different - and less immediately gratifying - level.

You have the haunting "Helicopters" and the carnival morbidity of "Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel".

This is a splendid album. If you are trying to figure out which BNL album to buy first, get Stunt, but this should be on your list to purchase in the future.

5 out of 5 stars Naked Maroon Rocks.......2006-06-22

It was at the start of the new Millenium, when Barenaked Ladies punched out another classic rock album. The Candian rock band was stronger than ever. Their musical knowledge and performance just shines on MAROON. The musicians display their great sense of time to a slight swing feel and they have a great sense of how to create harmony and melody with keyboards. The guitars, bass, strings, and percussion are there as well, but they do not stand out as much as the keyboards do. The lyrics to MAROON are in themselves incredibly interesting. Most of them are typical to the humor of Barenaked Ladies, but others start to become political. The lines to "Sell Sell Sell" are especially interesting because they make reference to Iraq and the lyricist's opion about the country. Three years after this record's release, the lyricist discovered how wrong the lines are about the region. Another track to give special attention to is "Helicopters". Hearing this song in our present day, makes the listener wonder if the lyricist forsaw the tragedy that would strike our country within in the next year of MAROON's release. This is a great piece of work and it is definately a must have for any music fan.

Stand out tracks include:
"Sell Sell Sell"
"Off the Hook"
"Helicopters"
"Tonight Is the Night I Fell Alseep At the Wheel"

4 out of 5 stars Instant classic.......2006-02-15

You wouldn't know it by hearing crap on the radio like,
"pinch me," but the rest of this album is very impressive.
Creative, unique. Songs like, " conventioneers, sell sell
sell, baby seat," etc, make this album more than a pop
friendly children's album. " Too little, too late," was
a much better single than the other two and a good way to
start of the album. This albums worth it.

I love Maroon 5's new song and I think it deserved to be a hit. I heard it on the radio and in the club. I downloaded this song on my computer and listen to it often. I think it's Maroon 5's best song!

4 out of 5 stars Wonder No More.......2007-06-03

It has been so long since Maroon 5 released Songs About Jane. Yet, theer really hasn't been much in the way the music has brought to the pop scene from them in awhile. After a recent label change, where Octone signed onto Universal and left J Records, Adam Levine and company has proved that the songs still have heart. Makes Me Wonder, the first single from their sophmore record It Won'e Be Soon Before Long is a very upbeat pop song that sounds like the group never went away. It is one of the best songs I've heard yet this year that really does deliver. I can't wait to hear what else they have in store for listeners, soon.

    Album Description

International version includes one bonus track, 'Infatuation'. Global neo-soul rock superstars, Maroon 5 are back with their much-anticipated sophomore album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long. The follow-up to the 10 times platinum, Grammy award-winning Songs About Jane will be sexier and stronger, according to frontman Adam Levine, who looked to 80s icons such as Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads for inspiration. Recorded at home in Los Angeles with producers Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Eminem), Mark Spike Stent (Bjork, Keane, Gwen Stefani), Mark Endert (Madonna, Fiona Apple), and Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Nickel Creek) the album promises to be a louder take on the pop sounds of their first effort. It's definitely aggressive, upbeat and pounding, says Levine.13-tracks in all. Universal. 2007.

The First Single from Grammy Award Winning Band's Sophomore Album "it Won't Be Soon Before Long", the Follow-up to the Ten Million Selling "Songs About Jane". "Makes Me Wonder" Captures all of the Elements that Create a Universally Appealing Pop Rock Song. The Song Segues from a Bass Heavy Intro to an Infectiously Catchy Melody that Soon Belies the Sentiment, "give Me Something to Believe in Because I Don't Believe in You Anymore." Beneath the Surface, it also Incorporates What Levine Calls "an Increasing Dissatisfaction with the Direction of the World" and Its Leaders, Imparting a New Layer of Meaning to an Otherwise Upbeat Breakup Song.
