Godsmack [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
In a post-Seattle Sound rock world, there's still a hunger for music that's dark, dirgelike, and heavy. And the void left by Soundgarden and company is being filled by a spate of bands, including Boston's Godsmack, who even nicked their name from an Alice in Chains song. Like Creed and Days of the New, Godsmack are raging and disenfranchised, as singer Sully Erna's lyrics illustrate: "I am in a living hell / Makes me wonder if I'm alive" or "You're pathetic in your own way / I don't like you anyway." Though the territory being mined isn't new, Godsmack's grungy grooves, potent energy, and strong hooks are irresistible. With a dash of Tool and a smattering of Filter seeping through, Godsmack are on the money, especially on "Whatever," the tantalizing "Get Up, Get Out!," and the strident and syncopated "Bad Religion," on which Erna puts one in mind of James Hetfield. While Godsmack's approach may not be fresh, the foursome's strong songs and powerful energy are still intensely tasty--especially for those with a taste for songs on the sober--but never staid--side. --Katherine Turman --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Grunge/Hard Rock.......2007-07-25

Definitely an essential piece to any grunge/hard rock enthusiast. This album is the start to the godsmack legacy (now four albums long) and is an excellent thumbnail print of all succeeding efforts. One aspect to appreciate about this album is that besides vocals, Sully Erna also composed and recorded all drum tracks before Tommy Stewart came on board. These thumping/groovy tracks together with Merril's bass provide a solid foundation for Tony Rombolla's captivating guitar rythms. Sully's vocals are quite a highlight ranging from low melody to aggressive grunge vocals (This album features his most aggresive vocals in my opinion).
Album Highlights: Moon Baby, Keep Away, Time Bomb, Bad Religion, Situation, Voodoo (amazing percussion)
Personal Favs: the above, Stress and Immune.

5 out of 5 stars Godsmack Smiles.......2007-05-21

I bought this for my girlfriend. She had went to check the mail before I got home. I asked her if she got anything good. She said she didn't. Then, I opened the package, said "Yes you did!" and handed her the CD. She said "Awesome!" and put a big ol' smile on her pretty face!

1 out of 5 stars In the aftermath of Grunge..........2007-04-06

Let's all be as real as we possibly can be and face the truth...after grunge populated the airwaves and then suddenly vanished, those corporations that made millions of dollars off of the angst-filled population of our world scampered left and right to try to fill the void, and their wallets again.
Enter a host of bands that sound suspiciously similar to many of the early 90's bands, only newer sounding.
Enter Godsmack, a sort of heavy metal band that borders more on a heavier version of the commerical sound that Metallica refined. Dark, brooding is the general feeling of this bands music, and while very catchy and enjoyable as "radio" music can be, its hardly satisfying and gets rather repetitive really fast.
Bands like Godsmack, are like fast food. It sure tastes good, its fast, its there in an instant. But there is no nutritional value inherent in the goods, and it really only serves to temporarily satisfy you, though it rarely does. There are hundreds of these bands, they crop up everyday. Where they come from, is anyones guess...
In the end, like fast food, this music makes you fat and bloated and sick - metaphorically, people. It poisons your mind and warps your vision of what amazing art and entertainment COULD be.
What I am trying to say, is that while Godsmack's debut has songs that many "angry" youths and misguided adults will enjoy and TOTALLY relate to, it serves as a brief relief from an eternal hunger for something more filling, more healthy.

1 out of 5 stars I got sick...........2007-02-20

One good cut, "whatever" and that's all. This music gives you an idea of what you would hear if you were small enough to get in your dishwasher while it is in operation :)

C'mon, this band has nothing new to offer, to me, it is a pale copy of Metallica.

4 out of 5 stars A few good songs.......2007-01-11

Love Godsmack but this cd only has a couple good songs on it in my opinion.

Six albums into its career, Godsmack finds itself faced with the challenge of moving forward without betraying its roots. Although the veteran act manages to offer up a handful of convincing tunes on this hour-long affair, IV fails to hang together as a cohesive and convincing album. The opening "Living In Sin" and its follow-up "Speak" rock with conviction although neither breaks new ground; "The Enemy"--a reasonably good approximation of a latter-day Metallica tune--proves persuasive while "Shine Down" and "No Rest For The Wicked" are radio-ready distractions. As good as those and a number of the other songs are IV never locks into any particular groove and ultimately amounts to little more than a batch of songs placed end-to-end on a disc that's roughly 20 minutes too long. By the record's final moments--the passionate but decidedly dated angst-filled dirge "Mama," the meandering "One Rainy Day"--the listener grows weary of treading down an all-too-familiar path with a band that still has a promising future if only it could let go of its unyielding grip on its own past.--Jedd Beaudoin

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!.......2007-06-27

I've enjoyed everthing Godsamck has put out. Although my favorite is the self titled CD (Godsmack), IV still holds its own.

4 out of 5 stars SMACKDOWN.......2007-06-18

Maybe becasue I'm 52, but damn I enjoy this CD! And maybe becasue I'm an "old timer" I really enjoy the melodies of HOLLOW and MAMA, these are infectious push repeat again and again type of songs.

The enjoyment of a rock and roll song is not always in the flashy guitars or head banging sond, it is from a feel a song gives you a mood it can out you in, a palce it can take you.

And I have no problem rolling down the highway, and turning this CD up full blast. A good effort, maybe dissapoints its early fans, but will make up for it with the new ones it will bring in. And its smackdown enough, to keep away most of the old dudes.

Sometimes some of the harsh sound and bleeting guitars need to betoned down just a tad, to let the soul of the group let loose.

4 out of 5 stars Their CD kicks rock!.......2007-05-31

Favorite song is Living in Sin. Their cd is overall ok but could be better like their Faceless album was.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Modern Rock With Great Vocals.......2007-05-15

I have never been a huge fan of Godsmack (I wonder if they have to pay royalties to Alice In Chains for that....), but I have always liked the singer Scully's voice, and seem to always wish I had some of their discs around....the guitarist also plays some pretty cool riffs, and has a great, thick tone that I like. Having owned no previous Godsmack albums, I picked up their latest and liked it even more than I thought I would.

A good modern rock/metal album with a nice flow and some variety all the way through, with especially standout vocals and some interesting experimental textures and guitar...I also like the sequel to their breakout hit from '98 "Voodoo Too". Pretty cool stuff, really. I listen to way too much prog metal, and sometimes this sort of thing is just what I want to hear. Cool stuff, check it out.

1 out of 5 stars What The Hell Happened.......2007-04-16

What the hell happened to these guys, not that they had much to offer in the past but damn, this is the apitamy of falling off. This band sucks just more so then they ever did. When your a big name band in the past then you come to play the Charleston Municipal Auditorium, you have really hit rock bottom!!. You can bet I will not be attending, and i cant imagine many others attending either!

Give it up Godsmack your not with the times anymore, your horrible

Fans of Godsmack's dark, swirling, commanding music will be delighted by the Boston band's powerful third effort, which mixes arena rock in the vein of an Alice in Chains (in fact, Godsmack takes its name from an AIC song) with the aggression of Pantera. With new drummer Shannon Larkin (formerly of Amen), Godsmack stick with the riff-heavy, layered tunes and sharp, confident bridge-burning lyrics (witness the convincing vitriol of "I F@?king Hate You"). Highlights include Sully Erna's gut-spewing scream on "Changes," the memorable chorus and commanding assured "I Stand Alone," and the radio-ready "Straight out of Line." The tribal drums and chanting of the instrumental "The Awakening" sets the stage for "Serenity," the final track, which brings Faceless full circle, the acoustic guitars, congas and strings providing a sinuous conclusion to a potent album. --Katherine Turman

5 out of 5 stars Best Godsmack CD........2007-05-31

Out of all their CDs that they currently have out I think this one is the winner. Their I stand alone song, Changes and Straight Out of Line all rock.

5 out of 5 stars Faceless.......2007-01-17

Most hardcore album ever made from Godsmack! WAY better than their first and second album combined, except 4 maybe the song "Serenity" It's ok,but I could have expected better, however still rocks!!!!!

best songs on their are dead and broken, straight out of line, i stand alone, i am, faceless, and changes.

5 out of 5 stars Godsmack's Third Album.......2006-07-28

With their third release, Godsmack really shines, harder and better than ever before. A strong, radio-ready hit opens the album with "Straight Out of Line". Godsmack continues the energy rise with the next two tracks, "Faceless", and "Changes". And perhaps the most powerful song they've ever recorded comes into play at #5, "I Stand Alone", in my opinion, one of the best heavy rock songs ever recorded. They continue the awesome song trend with "Re-Align", a softer side where the lyrics absolutely shine. Next, a throwback to their debut with "I F*****g Hate You", an angry song that bristles with tension and malice. Another stand-out is "I Am", in which lead singer Sully Erna declares "death will come when i'm good and God d**n ready". And Godsmack does it again with the melodic, almost tribal "Serenity", where the chanting chorus can make your heart pump with intensity. Overall, this is their best record yet and an excellent purchase. This album apppeals to all rock fans who love quality music. An awesome album.

5 out of 5 stars the energy is there.......2006-07-25

I had overlooked this band for along time. I am now a fan. I love the energy they bring to their music, the agression, the power...I really don't get the comparison to Alice N Chains. They are one their own sound. Sully does have a very unique voice and the lyrics are dark but man they are awesome. I bought IV first. Now I plan to get their other CD's as well. This is truely worth buying.
"I stand Alone", " Serenity" ,"Straight out of line" are really good.

4 out of 5 stars A good band to appreciate.......2006-06-28

godsmack is a great band with some classic songs such as Voodoo, and I stand alone, and serenity but anyways... this cd is full of what some people say out of tune guitars and dinosaur growling... thats godsmack for u, and if u cant handle it then dont bloody listen to it. This band is a great band to appreciate and i love the sound of them. Sully's Voice is awesome, so low and such i love it. The songs that shone on it are I Stand Alone, Faceless, Serenity, and others so whoever wants to diss them dont listen to it

Godsmack play their ghoulish hard rock with such a straight face, they make Metallica look like the Insane Clown Posse. For proof, look no further than heavily pierced frontman Sully Erna, who is not only a practicing Wiccan but the author of melodramatic declarations such as "Can't you see what this pain has fucking done to me." It's too bad the follow-up to the Boston band's triple-platinum self-titled debut rarely delivers with the desired intensity. Instead, the disc offers anodyne takes on the same old themes of aggression ("Sick of Life"), alienation ("Bad Magick"), and hocus-pocus ("Vampires"), with the all-too-familiar buzzsaw of nu-metal guitars and elastic bass grooves tearing throughout. --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awake to Hate.......2007-05-16

Godsmack has not made many albums compared to other artist, like Nine Inch Nails or Rob Zombie, but I really think thats what makes almost all of their albums interesting and fun. This is my personal favorite. The song Sick of Life is something I can really relate to and describes how I feel most of the time. Awake is a song I really would'nt listen to unless I'm in a really good mood. Greed is song that has lyrics that are powerful, but somewhat slow. Bad Magick and Goin down are not songs on the album I listen to often, but they are sort of catchy. Mistakes is another song I like and can listen to frequently. Trippin' is very similar to Mistakes, except that the intro is not as powerful and the vocals are more heavier. The other songs I have not heard because I don't have the CD, but instead an Mp3, but I'm sure there somewhat decent.

4 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-04-15

This is still one of my faviorte cds. I enjoy the title track but I like Sick of Life more. Its probably one of there last great cds as the other two cds havent been great. Although I stand alone is a faviorte track of mine.

5 out of 5 stars What is this album missing hmmmm? SHANNON LARKIN!.......2006-06-20

I think the only thing that could have made this album 6 stars is Shannon Larkin. I actually think this album is much better than their first, oh who am I kidding out of all 5 (the other side an LP, also good but I am waiting for a Percussively solid lineup with Sully and Shannon) of their studio releases this is it. Don't get me wrong, the first is good... But I think Awake closes a chapter and Faceless opened up their modern sound... and IV is eh, well... trying to be diverse. I recommend this album of them all.

4 out of 5 stars To those reading this JOIN THE NAVY!.......2006-06-14

Not only do I have this sudden urge to join the navy but after listening to Godsmack I feel like going back to old school Metallica from 1983-89. I don't understand the whole Alice in Chains rip off thing first off Sully doesn't sound ANYTHING like Layne Stayle if anything he reminds me of James Hetfield. The only thing as close to AIC as they get is there name Godsmack taken from 92's Dirt album and the sun logo thing, I'm just surprised they haven't gotton sued for [...]. There obviously huge influences on Metallica + AIC but whats wrong with that the only problem I have with Godsmack is alot of there songs sound the same. I loved this album when it came out 6 years ago but as time grew on this album hasn't really done anything for me in the past couple of years, I recomend it if you like old Godsmack over the new but they have done better than this album and thats why I give it 4 stars. If anything go pick up there self-titled thats way more interesting than anything they have put out in the past couple of years.

4 out of 5 stars AIC rip offs?.......2006-05-27

I'd like to know how a band goes about imitating another band even though they don't sound alike and have different types of songs. In my opinion godsmack and alice in chains sound nothing alike. True, godsmack is an AIC song title and true, they used a similar sun logo but it's all about the music here. Godsmack makes good music as did aic and believe me i am a huge fan of alice in chains and i can't wait for them to tour with william duvall. But, come on, these bands are totally different from each other. as for this album, probably their weakest effort but still quite good.

3 out of 5 stars Godsmack CD "The Other Side".......2007-02-24

I first listened to this CD in a local sport's bar. The bartender discovered that I had just retired from the military and he wanted me to listen to the CD his son had sent him. His son is serving over in Iraq.
I normally listen to XM radio, the Spanish stations or Frank's Place. Godsmack is not the music I would normally purchase. However, the group has a very deep appealing sound. I actually bought the CD for a friend of mine who is deployed over in the Persian Gulf - I thought if his son who is in Iraq likes it, then perhaps the fighting men and women over there would also relate and enjoy this CD.

3 out of 5 stars A so so collection.......2007-01-10

I was a bit dissapointed with this CD. Not much more to say.

4 out of 5 stars Very Nice.......2007-01-07

This CD has a very nice sound...I was shocked when I first heard it, because I was used to Godsmack's edgier sound on the other albums. This album has acoustic versions of some of their best songs. The sound is AMAZING, though. If you love Godsmack, definitely check this out, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised. The quality of the recording is excellent - the acoustic guitar is perfectly balanced with the vocals. I love it.

My only advice: Don't buy it on Amazon. Because there are only seven tracks, paying the Amazon price seems like a waste of money. You can get it on iTunes for $6.99.

5 out of 5 stars Best EP I own.......2006-08-03

This album is a really pleasant EP. And unlike others you won't regret buying this one. The acoustic guitars suite Erna Sully's voice. The rhythm and the speed are maintained perfectly. Touche and Voices are my favourite. Go on buy it if you have not yet got it

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!!.......2006-07-05

The track listing reads like a who's who of the nu-metal genre, with brand-new songs from chart toppers including Godsmack, Creed, and Nickelback. Especially strong are System of a Down's orchestrated-meets-intense "Streamline," Sevendust's fervent and unique "Corrected," and Nickelback's raucous, edgy, raw rocker "Yanking Out My Heart," while Creed's typically musically morose five-minute ballad "To Whom It May Concern" will certainly delight fans. New band 12 Stones show promise with their straightahead, guitar-heavy "My Life," while Flaw's layered, soaring, and mesmerizing "Only the Strong" sounds hit-bound, as does Injected's vibrant "Burn It Black." As with Godsmack, Mushroomhead's contribution was penned specially for the movie, the suitably "soundtracky" audio track "turned down" to suit the onscreen action. If the flick--the third of the Mummy series--fades from memory quickly, its musical accompaniment is well equipped to stand the test of time. --Katherine Turman

1 out of 5 stars not my kind of music.......2007-07-05

I got this soundtrack when i bought a used copy of the scorpion king dvd, as it came with the dvd. Now, in the movie, these songs work, it's a perfect fit for the action on-screen. However, as stand alone songs, they jut come off as loud and noisy, not really songs as much as people screaming. But if you like this type of music, i suppose it's a good mix of bands, just not really for me.

5 out of 5 stars Can't Get Enough!!.......2007-06-17

I bought this cd after seeing the movie. IT'S DA BOMB! a great combo of hard rock a new age stuff. my top 4 songs are:
1."I stand alone"-godsmack-heavy guitar and great vocals by sulley!
2."ironhead"-Ozzy O. and R. Zombie- freaky but cool. neat new vocals and good effects
3."Glow"-coal chamber-i'd never heard of this group before and didn't know what 2 expect. it has harsh vocals{in a good way} and cool guitar
4."yankin out my heart"-Nickelback-to this day i still love nickelback, this song is fast-paced fantastic music.
Note:i lost my first copy of this cd. i loved it so much i went here and bought it again. if u don't like this album your just weird!!

5 out of 5 stars my personal perfect compilation.......2006-07-27

For every great movie, there has to be a great soundtrack, right? Well, this is one movie that proves to not be the exception to the rule, to the delight of musiclovers everywhere. Here are my opinions on the individual tracks:

1. I Stand Alone - Godsmack- My favorite song off the soundtrack and my favorite from Godsmack- hell, one of my favorite songs of alltime. There are some songs on this particular soundtrack that were just perfect for the soundtrack, and this is one of them. Godsmack recorded this song exclusively for this compilation, but the response to the track was so strong, they recorded it and put it as their first single from their 2003 album Faceless. Perfect song in every way.
2. Set It Off (Tweaker Remix) - P.O.D.: Another awesome song, this one remixed from Set It Off, from their Satellite CD. Cool beats and it's got Sonny Sandoval, so you can't really go wrong with it.
3. Streamline - System Of A Down: Loved System of a Down on here. Another good song for the ST.
4. To Whom It May Concern - Creed: I love Creed! And this song, from their Human Clay CD. Sweet song.
5. Yanking Out My Heart - Nickelback: Another song recorded specifically for this soundtrack, Nickelback really puts out a good time on this song and it really shows in one of the best songs on the CD.
6. Losing My Grip - Hoobastank: Not one of the best songs, but still pretty good.
7. Only The Strong - Flaw: don't know why, but I really didn't like this song that much. Never heard of Flaw before this CD and it really didn't give me that much reason to check them out more...
8. Iron Head - Rob Zombie feat. Ozzy Osbourne: A perfect combination (although not as good as Rob Zombie and Drowning Pool from the Daredevil soundtrack) and one of my favorites.
9. My Life - 12 Stones: I LOVE 12 STONES!! I am a huge fan of all their music, esp. this one, from their 2001 debut CD. This is my second favorite on here.
10. Along The Way - Mushroomhead: Not bad, but not the best.
11. Breathless - Lifer: Meh. Not bad,
12. Corrected - Sevendust: Sweet song.
13. Burn It Black - Injected: Pretty good for a band I've never heard of before this.
14. 27 - Breaking Point: Another decent compilation for this CD.
15. Glow - Coal Chamber: Here is a really good track. My third favorite.

If only I could get you to see the awesomeness of I Stand Alone... oh well. Happy rocking, everyone.

4 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Great soundtrack.......2006-06-14

1. I stand alone- Godsmack

A hard, strong begining track. I like it heavy vocals, very fitting for the movie

2. Set it off- P.O.D

a awesome mixture of rap and nu-metal one of my favorites on the CD, i always loved this band

3. Break You- Drowning Pool

I like the begining of the song but it slowly gets more annyoing and annoying but overall is allright

4. Streamline- System of a Down

I love SOAD I really do and the Toxicity album is one of my favorite albums EVER made. I like this song but there is a lot better songs by SOAD so I dont know why they chose this one its ok.

5. To whom it may concern- Creed

I like creed but this song didnt seem to fit, i think it was a little to slow im not sure, it wasnt horrible but not great.

6. Yanking Out My Heart - Nickelback

I like Nickelback and i wont complain this is a good song starts fast and stays that way till the end

7. Losing My Grip - Hoobastank

Great song, i like the vocals but when the instuments come in its awesome

8. Only The Strong - Flaw

Another one of my favorites on the CD. a nice mix of rock, alternitive and metal

9. Iron Head - Rob Zombie feat. Ozzy Osbourne

I like ozzy because and rob zombie and together they rock, this song is a little on the freaky side but i like it.

10. My Life - 12 Stones

a great song, awesome 'nuff said

11. Along The Way - Mushroomhead

I am a huge mushroomhead fan, when i saw this was on there i bought it, and let me tell u its a awesome song, no one is really like them its just a awesome song

12. Breathless - Lifer

starts cool and just gets better and better

13. Corrected - Sevendust

I could live without it so/so not the best yet not the worst

14. Burn it black - Injected

Sweet verses, awesome Chorus, great song cant skip it

15. 27 - Breaking point

Reminds me of the hoobastank but this one is a little better all though the werid verses kind of hurts it a little

16. Glow - Coal Chamber

I like coal chamber, they could have chosen a better song but I like this song still gets right to the point!

5 out of 5 stars Burn it Black...more like Gold.......2006-02-18

This soundtrack hits all the right notes and smashing through all the right walls if you get my drift. From open to close it's brilliant. With new tracks penned for the film by Godsmack, Mushroomhead and System of a Down this is one album that is sure to please. "I STAND ALONE" is a great way to open, and the video is a great one at that. POD is always lacking in my book but the introduction of the newly reformed Drowning Pool elicits appreciation as does Systems melodicly challenged masterpiece "STEAMLINE"...and by melodically challenged I mean that it doesnt know what it wants to be (but thats how it is with Systems stuff and it works) Creed slow things down and then hand things off the Nickelback who run with it turning out great rock with a southern feel. They truly are Country's answer to rock and roll. Hoobastank do alright, not my favorite band but not a bad selection, while Flaw rip things apart with "ONLY THE STRONG". It's such a shame this band fell apart because they were one heck of a kick @$$ band. "IRON HEAD" is a great heavy track from none other than Satan himself (oh wait, which one is Satan again?) Rob Zombie and Ozzy. 12 Stones were welcomed to the stage with "MY LIFE" which has promise...to bad they never lived up to the promise...Mushroomhead is always good for something and Lifer, winners of MTV's Battle of the Band turn out a really awsome track "BREATHLESS"...it's just too bad their debut CD bombed bad...Sevendust turn out a unique rocker in "CORRECTED" and prove they are still in the game. Injected, a band I've never heard before, give one awsome standout track in "BURN IT BLACK" while Breaking Points "27" fails to dissapoint (thats a good thing)...The closer "GLOW" by Coal Chamber, while not terrible, failed to excite me about the release of Coal Chambers upcoming CD "Dark Days" and while I purchased the CD anyway, this song is still not one of my favorites...but it does have that middle-eastern vibe to the riff and so it fits well to the feel of the movie I guess. All in all this is one Soundtrack that needs to me in your collection!

4 out of 5 stars Godsmack Awaken.......2006-10-24

As far as second albums go, rarely do they ever come as strong as Godsmack's "Awake." Dodging the somewhat formulaic approach of the first album, the guys truly stepped into their own on this album, evolving into a more respectable, more diverse hard-rock band and shedding the Metallica and Alice In Chains comparisons. True, Godsmack never were the most original band, but "Awake" is definitely a testament to the fact that Godsmack really, really know how to rock.

Sounds Like: Godsmack coming into their own.

The Good:
- Frontman Sully Erna does his best to shed the "go away" theme of the debut.
- The production and the sound mix are much stronger than on the debut.
- The riffs are fresher than ever.

The Bad:
- Erna still steps into cheeseball lyrical situations, "Greed" being a prime example.
- The album loses a bit of momentum after the first half.

Hits: "Vampires" is still one of my favorite Godsmack songs, and it doesn't even feature any vocals! "Bad Magick," "Awake," "Goin' Down," "Mistakes" and "Sick Of Life" are excellent as well.

Misses: I find "Greed" to be a little to cornball to take seriously (and the music video was worse!)

Personally: I wasn't a huge Godsmack fan in the beginning, but "Awake" gets my respect. It's a shame it didn't get the airplay it's predecessor did, as it's simply a better album. For these guys, though, it's always hit or miss. They'll never please everyone, but those seeking some good solid heavy rock should try out "Awake."

Best Listened To When: You need a quick hard-rock fix.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD, Great Guitar........2003-07-11

This album blows me away. The first CD is better, but that doesn't make this one [is bad]. I just got the 3rd album, Faceless.
It's really good, about the same as this one. The best songs are Awake, Greed, and Vampires. They all have the best guitars. Tony Rombola, the guitarist, is awesome. He plays that guitar better than Metallica's Kirk Hammet. Sully Erna, front man, is a powerful vocalist with an incredible voice for metal. This band is a mix of Metallica and Alice in Chains. Listen to it.

4 out of 5 stars Great but not Awsome.......2001-12-08

This is deffinatley a good album. But it's not what I expected for a second album. I was blown away by the first and maybe my expectations were too high for this one. I love a couple tracks. Sick of life, Greed and Vampire have the metal grind and chop I have come to expect from them. I find myself barley listening to rest of the CD usally fast forwarding and eventually popping GODSMACK in after those three songs. I would buy it because there is deffinatly more than one good song. Here's hoping they have more good songs and fewer bland ones on the next.

to many bad words (except for this version) to evil, and never slap jesus. hes the man. And I hate voodoo. its evil man! I laugh at the album cause its so rediculous. I do give them credit because they sound AWESOME but like, have bad toppics. not recommended for any religious ppl.

4 out of 5 stars Godsmack in Chains.......2004-01-02

Keep Away is an awesome tune, you can hear a little bit of layne staley from alice in chains in sully's voice, best song on there. another great dark song is voodoo.

4 out of 5 stars Good major debut.......2002-08-03

It's good, Whatever and Keep Away, everyone knows them and loves them. Very hard and fist pumping. Bad Religion is the best song, very rock radio friendly. Voodoo is a nice little creepy kind of number. Very cool and melodic. The use of percussion on it is really great. Worthy effort.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent acoustic package that does not lose power.......2006-08-30

Note: This review reposted because the original one was attached to a product or other release which is not longer available to purchase.

I wasn't a huge Godsmack fan, and from listening to their first album had not paid them much attention after that. Then one day a friend had an extra ticket to the concert tour promoting this album. a small venue with just a couple hundred people listening to Godsmack play songs on acoustic guitars.

Wow. I was blown away, and had to get the album. The seven tracks are a combination of both early material and new songs, all performed "unplugged". Taking the punch of the electrical soundset out makes the songs a little slower, which gives Sully, the lead vocalist, even more time to put effort into his powerful vocal performance. Despite being acoustical, the songs don't lose energy or power, but take on a whole new life all their own.

The Track "Running Blind" does not have so much a Vocal or story presence but really brings out a great sound of the guitar work as well as backing vocals that meld well with Sully Erna's lead. The track "Touche" goes in an even better direction, with a superb acoustic guitar intro, this riff is catchy and Sully puts a lot more emotion into his voice for a more dramatic effect. "Voices" is a soothing, more mellow track that has some great bass feeling tones to it. Though a little more mellow and even heartfelt in melodic appeal, it's another gem on the album. "Keep Away" is a recognizable staple by the band, and again, is just as powerful and effective in acoustic style. Erna's voice and the overall sound of the album is crisp and acute, and my hat goes off to the effort that went into the recording process of this album. If you like Godsmack or acoustic based rock music, you will probably love this album. I never get tired of listening to it, and it's a nice switch from the Arena Rock power that is normally heard from new bands of today. Making an acoustic album shows that Godsmack perhaps is a step ahead of the pack in terms of diversity and skill.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST! in every audio library!.......2006-04-25

Another Kick@$$ acoustic heavymetal album. A must in every audio library! Sound quality is superb! They must do an Mtv unplugged version! Another level for this awesome band... well done

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece of Sound.......2005-08-28

This is a great work by Godsmack and is an acoustic version of their songs. Fantastic! This is a top notch production of SACD, the disk contains SACD stereo, SACD multichannel, and CD. Get it, you will like it!

4 out of 5 stars really going to the other side, but for the best.......2005-08-17

jimmy Page once said, that if is song sound good either: acoustique, symphonique as well as amplified and distort, it was a good song.

GODSMACK definitely understand that concept, but the other way around. Revisiting some of FACELESS song only with a 6 strings concussion, drums and good vocals really redifine the way i saw Godsmack. They really are music artist, not just a make up band who like to trash.

They ptove that they want to explore further than VODOO or SERINITY. The also prove that they have futur for us to see.A futurfully loaded of raw material , not paste copy of their old succes. The engage a way that many bands enage to late in their carreer and failed.

Doing this soon in their career will avoid a fan backlash like Metallica suffered With LOAD.

As for the Cd itself. Gets Long after a while the really slow pace is hard to sustain when you are use to their other material. But everything is relaxing and fun to listen.
i really enjoy this cd.

The rewriting is mindblasting totally new material, but in the meantime (with re-align) we can still see that the song was somthing heavy. They kept that bass sound that remind us the heavy metal way.

But for ASSLEEP its a rediscovery of AWAKE. Totally something else.

Recording is great, good producing provide by lead vocals ERNA.

A nice album to have for Openminded people who love bvand who explore and rediscover. Really old school way.
