Fate Of A Violent World

Editorial Reviews

"I listen to a lot of music and every once in a while a band impresses the hell out of me. Dagger is such a band. This is one band with their chops together -- this is no garage party band, this is serious rock and roll...

"Smooth hard rock is what comes to mind when listening to this 11-song CD. Each track comes across coherently and mathematical-sounding in structure, and almost every song has that chanting-80's, Euro-style chorus...

Album Description
Fate Of A Violent World is about hard rock, from a real band that knows what hard rock is all about. There's no flannel or stupid haircuts or ridiculous goatee's needed for Dagger to get their point across. They get their message across with slamming drums, great guitar riffs and soaring vocals. Fate Of A Violent World is the future of hard rock.

You have to chuckle a bit at the product description for Dagger's Fate of a Violent World album. "Future of hard rock?" Not quite, seeing as how the band was never heard from again. I imagine 1994 was a tough time for a band like Dagger. Everything about the band says "metal", but at that point grunge was king and metal had become a dirty word. They didn't attempt to sound "alternative"; their response was apparently to emphasize the hard rock elements of their music. This marked them as being heavier than the typical hair metal band, but with their soaring vocals and melodic approach, they'd never be mistaken for Pantera either. The result of this fence-straddling is the kind of album you'd only find around 1994 - a sort of metal, sort of hard rock hybrid that would have been right at home on the Airheads movie soundtrack. It's not really surprising that the band was never heard from again.

The thing is, I actually like Fate of a Violent World quite a bit. It's a very melodic hard rock album, and has great guitar work and vocals. Had it been released a few years earlier, I imagine the band would have enjoyed a bit more success. Instead, Dagger remains the kind of band that only the truly dedicated 80's/90's metal fan will seek out.
