Approach Aaron Neville's Bring it on Home ... the Soul Classics with anything but an open heart and you've missed the point. This is a serious CD, at once mournful, humble, and joyous, with no shortage of moments that recall the terribleness of Hurricane Katrina. One way of processing it is as a cataloging of classic songs that helped Neville's fellow New Orleanians soldier through: opener "Rainy Night in Georgia" with jazzman Chris Botti wrings beauty from soaking-wet despair, "Stand By Me" turns its heel on pleading in favor of promise-making, and "People Get Ready," with David Sanborn and brother Art, is a chill-sending reminder of how unity and perseverance can trump tragedy. Viewed from another lens, Soul Classics is Neville's attempt at climbing aboard the late-career, classic-covers bandwagon while weaving his bayou-soul heritage into the picture. The trouble with that theory, though, is that it feels like so much more. His voice flutters alongside Mavis Staple's on "Respect Yourself" with completely uncontrived tenderness, and Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" becomes a meditation on stillness and ease that befits a boulder-sized lump in the throat. It is hard for me to rate an Aaron Neville disc, because I just love the way he sings. It is very hard to find a song by him that he kills. And in this CD he took GREAT classic soul songs and sang them his style. Just wonderful!

Gomez are the best.......2007-02-28
This album earned Gomez fame back in 1998 when they won the esteemed Mercury Music award with it.
They have been coined all variations of 'blues-folk-rock', and loads more to boot. I think their sound is fantastically original, and their albums have gone from strength to strength.
Bring it on is the corner stone in their outstanding portfolio, and is a marvelous achievement. I strongly believe that everyone needs Gomez in their lives, or at the very least should own this album.
Definitely grows on you.......2005-02-21
The first time I ever heard this album, I have to say, I was not blown away. Sure, there were some good songs, but it was not a spectacular album in my view. Then, after hearing it a few more times, it started to really grow on me and I realized what a great album it was. Don't give up on it after one listen, because you will be pleasantly surprised. It blends elements of blues, jazz, funk, and rock to make a potpourri of some great music. I think I might just like this album better than Split the Difference, although it is a very close race. I think my favorite tracks on this album are Tijiuana Lady, Rie's Car, Love is Better Than a Warm Trombone, and Get Myself Arrested. Overall, great album.. I hope you enjoy it.
Gomez started a brilliant career with this one.......2004-12-16
"Bring it on" wasn't recorded in a big studio. Gomez didn't have any celebrity treatment making this album. They were just high school kids making a phenomenal rock album in a garage.
It opens with the keyboard drone of "Get Miles" and gets started with the acoustic, even reggae sounding "Whippin' Picadilly" which explodes in bursts with a sing a long chorus. "78 Stone Wobble" is one of the best songs on the album, with the throaty voice of guitarist Ben Ottewell acing the lead vocal. "Tijuana Lady" is far and away the best song on the disc, it has spanish influences and creative lyrics. "Get myself arrested" is a hilarious story about a kid and his car. It ends with the long "Rie's wagon" and "The Comeback", which top off a terrific album. This first album set Gomez on a road to make great albums like "Liquid Skin" and recently the incredible "Split the Difference" Get this one, it's terrific.
Really cool psychedelic sound mixed with a bluesy sound.......2004-06-07
This CD has flavors of the late 60s/early 70s psychedelic sound incorporated into some modern alternative music. The first track Get Miles reminds me a little of the sound of Strawberry Alarm Clock's Incense & Peppermints, while Make No Sound, The Come Back and 78 Stone Wobble could have been extra songs from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Tijuana Lady and Bubble Gum Years reminds me a little of the old Pink Floyd sound when Syd Barrett was the lead signer. Tracks like Get Myself Arrested, Free To Run, and Rie's Wagon have a bluesy sound to them.
And finally, Whippin' Picadilly is just plain cool.
I am beginning to wonder if we are about to have another British/U.K. Invasion (I wasn't alive for the first one, but I do know my music history), as there is a lot of cool music coming from England again. Gomez is definitely included in that statement, as are bands like South London's The Koreans, Jem Coldplay, Supergrass, Snow Patrol, etc.
OK, but nothing like Liquid Skin.......2004-05-25
This album shows the potential that Gomez has, and Liquid Skin shows Gomez fullfilling that potential. It's not that this album is horible, it's just average. I would recomend anyone interested in Gomez to by Liquid Skin, than once your a fan, go back to this album and prepare to be disapointed. I was atleast.

Director David Lynch's affection for kitschy lounge music and emotionally overwrought mid-century pop has long since proven to be more than trend or irony; indeed, it's often the uneasy spiritual axis of his films. The soundtrack of Mulholland Dr. turns on the usual Lynchian motifs (the brooding atmosphere of Angelo Badalamenti's ominous synth-and-orchestra cues tossed with a dash of Lynch's own off-center compositions), yet manages to evoke a sense of foreboding that's distinctly its own. Badalamenti leads off with a curve, the nervous orchestra swing-romp "Jitterbug," before descending into a dark soundscape that becomes murkier and more avant-goth at every turn. Bubbling through that morass are pop nuggets variously cheesy (Dave Cavanaugh's lounge-ready "The Beast"), lugubriously bluesy (Sonny Boy Williamson's take on Willie Dixon's "Bring It On Home"), and alternately innocent ("I've Told Every Little Star") and liturgical ("Llorando"). Three tracks of the director's own (cowritten with John Neff) skulking Lounge Music from Hell ratchet up the tension even further; it's the perfect garnish for this darkly delicious film-music cocktail. --Jerry McCulley

In this dream, you are Betty Elms.......2007-01-13
The reviews here simply don't do justice to the soundtrack. It's very hypnotizing and elevates you to this reality that you indeed have the same mental energy displayed by the first character of Betty Elms, who Diane Selwyn identifies with as herself in a dream she is having. The dark scenery conveyed by this music puts you in her place, where through darkness you hold to your innocence. The movie and music interplay in this way to the effect of putting you in that darkness where you are the same girl that Diane is seeing in her dream, the girl she knows herself to be without the hellish reality she is in as a sort of resolve to the hell she's in. This Naomi Watts specifically conveyed what I thought is a part of me that may also be a part of you, and you will notice it in the way you look at things and how your face expresses your innocence to a dark world. Then there is the music for Rita. I also reviewed the movie, which I also recommend. My favorite track is the 9th one in this respect. Secondly, which you may find suitable for your funeral, is the last song. The rest I almost prefer watching the movie and appreciating it all while viewing, but it's music you must have after you've seen it.
Badalamenti does it again........2006-11-17
If you're a fan of Angelo Badalamenti's scores for David Lynch, you'll want to add this to your collection as well. Haunting synth pieces lull you into the dreamlike world Lynch created with this film, and there are some other types of music to jazz it up a little. Particularly striking is Rebekah Del Rio's cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying."
Take a drive through David Lynch's musical hell and deluding darkness..........2006-06-26
To start of, I regard "Mulholland Dr." as David Lynch magnum opus, his most masterfully created cinema of deceit, lust and darkness. Compelling, totally deranged, original, sometimes hilarious funny, and three minutes later scary as hell.
David Lynch's movies are always heavy set on atmosphere, and this is partly caused by the director's long time musical collaborator Angelo Badalamenti. From the jazzy, loungy tunes for the t.v. series "Twin Peaks" to the dark overtones of "Blue Velvet", Badalamenti knows wich buttons to push to make an eerie composition, a few notes of estrangeness and give the audience an unsetteling feeling.
"Mulholland Dr." is filled with music. Most of it is purely on the soundrack with Badalamenti's score coming very close to high quality dark ambient acts like Lustmord, Raison d'Etre or Hazard, others are sung "live" in the movie, like Linda Scott's sweet bubblegumish "I've told every little star", two very hip tunes ("The beast" by Milt Buckner and Sonny Boy Williamson's "Bring it on home") and of course Rebekah Del Rio's acapella performance of "llorando", the Spanish version of Roy Orbison's evergreen.
But the greatest surprise to me were three tracks by David Lynch himself in collaboration with one John Neff. And these three pieces are to be find on a solo cd by David Lynch called "Blue Bob".
I never knew before seeing "Mulholland Dr." that David Lynch is also a guiter player and singer. Now I know and I must say that his song "Mountains falling" is the most brooding, creeping, swirling and erotic sounding piece of electric guitar music I have ever heard.
So play this album and hit the road, Jack. And pray that indeed you will come back...
dark and (often) beautiful.......2005-11-25
anyone who has seen mulholland drive knows that the soundtrack lent a very important hand to the overall vibe of the movie. so you would think that it would be hard to enjoy one without the other, but this soundtrack suceeds very well on its own. alot of film scores are fine and enhance the movie while yr watching it, but are trash when taken alone and this sndtrk is kind of above that. i'm not really big on any of the lynch/neff tracks, but they work fine in the movie. the other songs that weren't written by badalamenti are pretty good and are a nice change of pace. my favorite tracks are dwarfland/love theme (especially the latter half), mulholland drive/love theme, llorando, and diane and camilla. i dont believe that diane and camilla was in the movie, but its a very beautiful piece that i think sums up the diane/camilla relationship quite well. anyway, i really like this cd and anyone who enjoyed the film would do well to pick this up
A dark journey through the sphere of horror........2005-10-26
It may not be a horror movie, but the score for Mulholland Drive could be a journey through the ultimate graveyard or haunted house on a stormy Halloween night. I have never even seen the movie, though I love David Lynch's movies for the most part. This score is a dark and haunting musical journey that might work well for a score to a creepy vampire movie or something. Some of it, including the heavy jazzy and dark rock pieces, might be better suited for a suspense thriller, which it is. But the more ambient dark themes could work in any supernatural thriller much as Mark Snow's music could. Enjoy the tour! Ha! Ha! Ha!

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.
Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

The scariest thing about Horror Pops second album, might be the cover itself that looks like were promotional stills for some goth episode of Pee Wee's Playhouse. But the visuals are the most seditious part about these Danish punk psychobilly rockers. They elevate the often creepy genre with their smart lyrics, elegant nods to New Wave, careful attention to dynamics and a strong rhythmic structure that will find you nursing a bad case of whiplash from all the head bobbing. It's one of those rare albums that combines swaggering attitude, clean melodies and a skewed sense of humor in equal measure. Great guitars, great voice, great MUSIC!.......2007-02-16
This album is great, I don't know why so many are complaining when this album is clearly better than Hell Yeah! ever was.
And their first album was great!
They did stray farther away from the rockabilly since the last album, but it's still really enjoyable, bouncy, fun music that embraces the right amounts of rock, punk, rockabilly, and a little bit of pop (Heck, if you told me "Hit and Run" was a cut from No Doubts "Tragic Kingdom" I wouldn't think twice). Patricia Day sounds even better on this album, sounding somewhat like a drunk, foreign Gwen Stefani. I love her voice, the way she chews and spits some of those words... She has to be one of the best female vocalists I've ever heard.
What makes Bring It On! it better than Hell Yeah! is that the songwriting is much better, and they all but dropped the goth imagery. The only horror themed song they have on here is "Walk Like A Zombie." The rest is much more varied, plenty of songs about love, a song about rebelling against musical conformity ("Freaks In Uniform" which lets you know from the start that this album isn't *going* to be a repeat of their debut), a song about overdrinking (the hilarious "Crawl Straight Home" featuring the line "coated tongue and hairy teeth/I guess I'm not so lady like"), and the gorgeous murder ballad "S.O.B." (great vocals on that song, she really puts some bite into those lines) just to give you an idea.
But what really *REALLY* sells this record for me is the guitar work. They apparently switched out a guitarist and replaced him with some dude from Tiger Army (the bass player, I heard) meaning you have two former bass players from other psychobilly bands playing guitar. It sounds weird, but I couldn't be happier with the results. The guitars on the album really shine thanks to some gorgeous arrangements and a smart sense of subtlety. I mean, they aren't doing anything technically impressive with them (in other words, no Eddie Van Halen soloing or anything like that), but the stuff they do with thier instruments is pretty inventive. Sometimes they're playing these spidery little lines over the chords, or they'll do some echoey, reverbed, surf-style chord swooping. There's a song ("You Vs. Me" I think) where they drop the chord progression in favor of just slashing a quick powerchord every fourth beat so you just hear a quick "chick" in the background for a verse. Man, there's so much stuff that I've noticed upon repeated listens, I can't begin to remember it all, but believe me when I say this whole album has lots of interesting sonic layers if you bother to look for them.
Whats impressive about that is they could have just been banging out power chords the whole time and still made a fun album, but the guitarwork clearly shows they put a lot of time and thought into this album. It shows a surprising amount of intelligence, and while some of this type of thing was on Hell Yeah! its much more apparent on Bring It On! which tells me the Horrorpops were really shooting for a high level of quality, and I'd say they achieved it by giving us a intelligent mutli-layered musical experience.
You could pop this album in an enjoy it right away for its catchy and fun songs, but you can also surround yourself with a decent stereo and look for all the little guitar parts you didn't notice the first time around popping out of your speakers.
In short, the HorrorPops are easily the best band on Hellcat since the Dropkick Murphys (and I dare say I enjoy the HorrorPops even better than DKM), and you'd be missing out if you didn't pick up Bring It On! right away.

There's a lot of nit-picking in these reviews about "they're not psychobilly" , "the first album was better", blah, blah, blah. The problem is that nobody else is putting out anything quite like this. You can't try to compare them to Kim's band or to Tiger Army. And please don't call them emo-billy as someone did elsewhere.
My tastes run from old time rockabilly all the way through the hard core punk of bands like the Nerve Agents, Sick of it All, etc. The simple point is that this is energetic and unique music that borrows from lots of styles. Some songs are astonishing but they are all likely to make you tap your feet and bob your head. There really seems to be something in their sound that would appeal to anyone that likes the twangy surf-guitar sound in rockabilly but wants a more up-tempo delivery. The occasional ghoulish lyric is simply a nice touch here as well.
If you already know you like them and can't wait for their next release go get Mad Marge and the Stonecutters.
Ditch Kresge.......2006-11-03
I feel that putting Geoff Kresge in charge of song writing can only be described as a gargantuan mistake. The songs are only ehhhhh... With one major exception. Walk like a Zombie is a song that is a worthy song. I found out the reason why that song is an exception. It was written when the first cd was put out and just did not get released on Hell Yeah. I still love the band and think that the skies the limit for them, but they really need to take the pen away from Kresge, maybe even the guitar. Hell, even get rid of Kamilla, since she's the one that brought her husband into the band. I feel that he brings a negative energy into the Horrorpops. Kim and Patricia are the Horrorpops.
GREAT ALBUM - NOT PSYCHOBILLY.......2006-05-08
This is a great sophmore effort for Horrorpops. The knock on this band is that they aren't psychobilly enough or that they aren't heavy enough. Enough for what? I remember Metallica getting the same rap once they started playing something with a melody line. "They sold out" or "they're not metal anymore" or some other garbage like that. What a load of crap! The first song on Bring It on is called Freaks In Uniforms. It's about people (and bands) tragically sticking to molds...not stepping out from them and showing individuality. The people that knock this band usually knock it for the wrong reasons - not because they're a bad band, because they don't conform to the preconceived notion of what "this type" of band should be. Horrorpops aren't psychobilly, though they do have psychobilly influences that are obvious. They are plenty heavy for what they do. Horrorpops are a POP spin on psychobilly, rockabilly, ska, and good old fashioned punk. If you don't like your music catchy and melodic, stay away from this band. If you like songs that stay in your head and that are fun to sing along to...this is it. If you like to see live bands that all look and act the same as you mosh around or skank, they aren't for you. If you like an element of glitz and flash, not unlike KISS was in the 1970's, you're going to LOVE Horrorpops.

I'm not particularly a huge fan of the Horrorpops. That being said I own this album, I have heard this album and I have heard everyone's gripes about this album. I wouldn't call this 100% Psychobilly at all (although the slap-bass is apparent in some of the songs and not so apparent in others) and I agree with one of the reviews below that this band was not trying to sound 100% Psycho. With that I believe the Horrorpops have taken a new direction with this genre much like Tiger Army has with their third album and I comend them on this. Who wants to hear the same old Psychobilly that you can hear and buy for a dime a dozen these days...? It all sounds the same! This new Psycho/Rock/Punk hybrid music is a sigh of relief if you ask me... don't you agree?

Traditional Christmas Music .......2007-01-24
If you love traditional Christmas music, done in traditional style (i.e., no rock or jazz influence), this CD is for you. The Robert Shaw Chorale, the "gold standard" of quality choral music, sings much loved carols, with some lesser-known pieces as well. Some are a cappella; some include a full orchestral accompaniment. My favorites on this CD are "We Three Kings," "Bring a Torch, Jeannette Isabella," and "I Saw Three Ships."
The quintessential Christmas recording.......2005-12-09
This recording seems to elicit universal and heartfelt praise. Who am I to dispute that? The performance is terrific, just as described by the other Amazon reviewers, no doubt about it.
However, I do have one bone to pick with this recording. There just isn't enough of it. With material as good as this, that is a real loss!

I bought this cd long ago, and have enjoyed it immensely each year. It is the perfect blend of celebration and meditation. Orchestra and choir combine in four distinct groupings, and a capella arrangements complete the masterful collection. The orchestral arrangements will make the hairs on your neck stand up, and your stomach quiver with all the excitement you ever felt as a child at Christmas. Adeste Fidelis is performed as few other ensembles have ever come close. The a capella arrangements will all, without exception, be on your yearly list of must-hear holiday arrangements. Truly a top list Christmas CD, essential for every family who celebrates this feast.

I own approximately 35 Christmas choral CDs - including choirs and groups such as the Cambridge Singers and the King Singers. I also own two Christmas albums with Robert Shaw and the Atlantic symphony. This performance with the Robert Shaw Chorale is old but it is still my favorite. The arrangements are magnificent, the sound is brilliant, and the choir and orchestra are precise with wonderful volume control. Buy and enjoy!
How do you describe perfection?.......2003-12-14
This is my favorite Christmas CD. Nothing comes close. I thoroughly enjoyed learning much of the music in high school choir over 30 years ago. The music has never left me. The four medleys are the arrangements of Robert Russell Bennett titled "The Many Moods of Christmas". The arrangements seem to have a freshness about them even after listening numerous times.
Interspersed with the medleys are a cappella carols.
All of this music is wonderfully performed by the Robert Shaw Chorale, the a cappella selections recorded in 1957 and the medleys in 1963.
Four decades have proven that this is the standard in choral music. The clarity of text, the richness of tone, the beauty of harmony combine to present the message of Christmas in the manner that only music can do.
These words are no surprise to those familiar with choral music in the United States. If you are not so familiar, but would like to enjoy Christmas music at its most beautiful, you can do no better than acquiring this CD.

This is the best Christmas album you could ever get. It is the most stable as you do not have to think about it. This is the album you really sing along to. Brass makes everything festive, grand and noble; so will your Christmas! A gem for every year!
Meat and Potatoes.......2007-01-18
Since the release of this fine recording in 1967 there have been many fine
brass groups:The Canadian Brass, the Empire Brass, just to name a few.
Whereas these latter groups have all resorted to "gimmicks" such as unique arrangements to sell their albums this group of brass players from the Philadelphia Orchestra give us an album of good old "meat and potatoes" playing spiced with fine tone,good ensemble playing, and good tempos.

I love listening to this cd at christmas. The brass is so crisp, almost like being right there. You have to add this to your holiday collection, and for those of you who like brass, you will love it. I play the french horn and I esp. love hearing the french horn in it.

Basically, I think they sold out on this soundtrack. Alot of the songs that are prominently featured throughout the movie are missing (for example, Sum 41's Makes No Difference, Mest's What's The Dillio, Bis' Detour (Do You Wanna Go My Way?)) and instead, we find alot of songs of which we simply hear clips of during the competition mixes. Now, if they had actually featured the mixes in their entirety, it would be different. But instead we are left with a bunch of, quite honestly, mediocre songs.

the songs themselves are okay, but they dont capture the spirit of the movie. make sure you listen to the clips so you're not disappointed! and read the other reviews, so you can find the songs you're actually looking for. does anybody know the song they play when the go to either regionals or nationals, when missy's looking around at the other teams? it goes something like: ".... there she goes, slipping and sliding...."

For those who were/ are looking, the 'Do You Wanna Go My Way' song used in Torrance's spirit stick scene is really called "Detour" by bis. It's a great song, and I was a little disapointed that it was not on the soundtrack since it's such an intense scene/ great song. Hope that helps fellow searchers.

This is the "Merry Widow" with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. I loved this rendition ever since I first heard it in about 1960. What's to love? First the translation is the best I've heard. The language doesn't sound "stilted" as some others. And, you can understand almost every word sung. Plus, the famous song, "Vilja" has some wording that moves me every time I hear it: The soprano sings, "Love me and I'll DIE for you!" with the word "die" somewhat emphasized. I don't know, there's just something "powerful" about someone saying they'd "die" for love! AND, at the end of "Vilja" the chorus and soprano raise to a crescendo hitting a high note together. In many renditions the chorus is heard but not the soprano on the final high note. In THIS version, the soprano, June Bronhill, can be heard rising to the final high note with an incressing crescendo and fortissimo louder than the chorus and holding the final high note---which gives a very thrilling effect as she holds that final note, I assure you!
The "problem" is that this June Bronhill, Reid, and Hassel version is hard to find on CD. For example, this CD is made in Holland and "there is one left" so it says on Amazon. But, if you can find it, I think it would be very much worth a listen. Then, after hearing it, if you think there's a "better" Merry Widow, please let ME know! Thanks. Email:boland7214@aol.

I was trying to purchase the original Harry Simeone Chorale's Drummer Boy and received this. It was okay, a mixture of songs, but I treasure the original one. Very short album, but price was good, so I was not disappointed.

I too was hoping this was going to be the gorgeous rendition of the music I grew up with. It wasn't, but it did help cheer up the holidays this year anyway.

I have this cd and I love it because I love choral singing at Christmas but I am still looking for the first Harry Simeone Chorale album I ever bought. It is also titled " The Little Drummer Boy" , was released in 1981 by Holiday Records, a product of Phoenix Entertainment and Talent, distributed by Audiofidelity Enterprises, Inc. Why do I eagerly search the Christmas cd releases every year? I'm looking for 'A Simple Prayer', the absolute best version of the Prayer of St. Francis I have ever heard. (actually the only commercial version I have ever heard, although I get to sing a different song based on the same prayer at my church every once in a while). The man who sings the actual prayer on my album has a wonderful voice that makes me shiver every time I hear the song. I know it's not a 'Christmas ' song but I keep hoping it will show up one of these days. In the meantime, I keep and play my lp every year. Jo Haase
Mom's Recording: The Little Drummer Boy........2006-11-09
This record was done by my Mother, Frances Wyatt, and a group of her musical buddies from the old "Voice of Firestone" days. She is the one singing the soprano solo's on the album and can be heard above the others in the choral works. Mom was one of the lyric sopranos soloists on the "Voice of Firestone" ABC-TV program who became easily recognized here on the streets of NYC in the late 1950's and early 1960's. She also toured with Fred Warings Pennsylvanians extensively. Pretty cool!
I am proud that so many people have enjoyed this album over the years!
We, her family and children, grew up listening to this album along with her many Fred Waring recordings.
This one simple album, through years of continued sales, rocketed off the charts eclipsing all sales of LP's by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and every Pop musical group from L.A. to London. It made it into the Guinness Book of World Records! : A distinction it held for over 20 years!
When The Guiness people called us at home, we of course though it was some kind of prank. It wasn't.
I hope you truly enjoy this album and pass it on to your kids.
My mother died October 30, 2006. I will never forget her voice.
