Man, I just saw Playtonics tonight in Fresno (The Starline, Friday June 23), and I'll tell you what: These guys DELIVER.

Album Description
Non stop flight is a soulful pop record in the styles of the great masters like Steely Dan, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Beatles. Modern influences like Ben Folds Five and Los Lobos are also enjoyed. The songs are uplifting as well as thought provoking. Great party music!

    Both of the renditions of 4'33" to be had here are capably played, but two considerations force me to withhold a recommendation. First, the sound levels are atrocious; I could scarcely hear the performances. Secondly, the tempi were unbearably ponderous. I listened through the entire piece & at the end the first note had yet to be played. I recommend instead the superlative recording put out by the Amadinda Percussion Group, where you will discover an interpretation of the highest calibre.

    This was an amazing concert and I own a CD of the recording.... if you are at all "listening" out there, looking for sound that will take you beyond your normal experience, this collaborative work of incredible musicians, a live recording, get this one and research those who were performing.... you will not be disappointed.

    It is indeed so nice to finally hear powerful pop sophistication that is all to forgotten in today's music. Playtonics really have something special, in the same vain as Ben Folds Five and Jellyfish their music has a positive and intelligent vibe that will have you singing there songs till no end. These guys really know how to pull from their influences and create a sound that is familiar and fresh.

    Imagine a looser, slightly funky Steely Dan-like sound, and you've got an idea of what the Playtonics are all about. Spinning the disc at the moment, and I can't turn off She Loves Me, Under the Gun, Wrong is Right and Non Stop Flight - really, the whole disc is good, those are just current favorites. This is great music for parties, dancing, cruising the freeway or singing along. And, if you're in the San Francisco/Fresno area, get out and see these guys live! Loads of fun! Order Non Stop Flight today - it'll keep you company through the rest of the summer into Fall (track 6)...
