Customer Reviews:
A souvenier package of the cannibal arts.......2001-09-04
Great stuff...although the album version is better simply becuz 'Hole...' is much more affective at its 7 and half minute guise instead of the single edit...this is worth your hard earned cash for the b-sides. 300 Nights...simply beautiful...ditto for 'Tasman Awakans (another edit from the album-just as good)...none however surpass the apparantly 'indie-rock throwaway - see above review) of 'Lazy Pines'. For those of you with souls...this is possibly the most heartbreaking song they have ever recorded. Superb.
hmmmm.......2001-02-13
you can get the single 'the hole in your roof' on their new album sunset studies, but this single is still worth purchasing for the b-side '300 nights', if this pretty folk tune isn't destined to be a classic, i don't know what is.
Own it--it will soon own you. World, meet Augie March........2000-10-04
After hearing the words "Augie March" countless times in sentences with words like "incredible", "Grant Lee Buffalo", "Radiohead" and "Jeff Buckley," I picked up their first e.p., Waltz. I was instantly and deeply impressed. It was--and remains--one of those few records that continues to grow on you the more you hear it. By combining the unique yet hook-filled chord progressions and superb songwriting structure of the Grant Lee Buffalo's of the world, Radiohead's unusual instrumentation, effects and tuning, with sensually deep atmospheric pop sensibilities, Augie March have created a remarkable sound, showcased again on their second e.p. "The Hole in Your Roof," the title track, is alone worth the price of the disc plus shipping. The entire song crescendos toward a dam-breaklingly beautiful climax--without a chorus of middle eight. Two of the three b-sides are nearly as impressive, sounding similar to a stripped down Gene at there most madrigal and minstrel. The fourth track is a speedy-indie rock throw away from their very early days four years ago, and the ep would have been stronger without it. But the first three of these four tracks more than demand you to own this--it will soon own you.
