About the Artist
Pep Squad is a punky power-pop quartet from Portland, Oregon that is equally influenced by pop and underground, emo-core punk. Lead guitarist Bryan Everett and his sister Kim formed the band in 1995. Through a series of lucky breaks, they found themselves playing as a substitute band at the Northwest Music Festival that year. Their performance earned great acclaim, and within a year they had released an eponymous debut on the indie label, Bionic. The group continued to tour behind the record in 1997, eventually attracting attention from major labels. By the end of the year, they had signed to the Capitol-EMI subdivision, BEC Recordings. Their first release for BEC, No Doy!, was released in early 1998. Their next cd 'Yreka Bakry' was released on Tooth & Nail in January of 1999. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine

i've had this CD since it was released... and i still love it. Yeah, a lot of the songs sound similar, but you could apply that to most artists. Pep Squad's stripped down rock beats are catchy and you'll find yourself singing along too!

Though this CD clocks in under 30 minutes, every second is full of great alternative pop. Depth is not the key here. What bubbles to the surface is catchy hooks and dripping guitars that will stick in your head all day. This is what modern alternative is all about! Don't get me wrong, there is little innovation in the music style and the words will probably make you smile instead of think, but this CD captures both the raw sound of the stage and and clean studio pop in such a brilliant combination that it deserves more than a passive listen. It totally rocks! Definately one of the greatest(and most underrated) rock CD's ever released in the Christian market.

"Paper doll" and "bored out of my gourd" is the same song.Okay album but all the songs sound a like. If you get this CD you'll get tired of it fast!

well i really like this one...i thougth the first one was too good and way too short...this one is too great and 41 minutes of pure indie rock at its best. Well be a risk taker and buy this cd... it's catchy and fun... oh! they sound tightier than in no doy! friend or foe and wild pack are the bomb!

I do not see this mentioned anywhere so i thought it would be helpful to note that 'Yreka Bakery' was listed in SPIN magazines "10 Best albums you didn't hear in '98" ...it was why i bought it anyway...

Pep Squad's new cd is unbelievable! This band has grown by leaps and bouds since their first album "No Doy". Pep Squad combines pop hooks with off-cilter lyrics to come up with some true alterno-rock gems like "Erik's (got a) girlfriend" and "Birds and Fleas". Other tracks of interest include a disco song called "the Floor" and a bouncy harmonious ditty called "It's a No". For anyone who like some good pop-rock, Yreka bakery is definitely worth checking out. -TP
