About the Artist
What does a small town prairie boy with a broken heart and an abundance of melodic prose do? He sets out in search of a band.

Young Faisal Sethi, if that is his real name, began his journey at the hundredth meridian, where the Great Plains begin. He continued westbound through the majestic Canadian rockies and finally settled in the wetlands of the northwest in a town that gained a reputation for something referred to as "grunge" in the early nineties. Realizing that the Canadian dollar wasn't going to get him very far in his new surroundings, Faisal discovered that the alley behind the local saloon would be his new abode for some time to come.

One fine morning, Faisal awoke to find a surfer from California spooning him amidst the clutter of cardboard boxes and leftover Ichiban (Top Ramen) packages that made up his new dwelling. After a brief confrontation, Faisal befriended surfer Dan who in turn introduced him to a cast of musical misfits that now reads like a complex family tree chart.

Colouring Season was conceived over a few pints of honey brown, a diet Coke and a game of nine-ball gone wrong. Knowing a swindle when they saw one, two ex-hustlers, also acquaintances of surfer Dan, approached Faisal and bailed the heart-fu*ked Canuck out of a sticky situation. Aware that he had a lot to ascertain from his newfound friends, Faisal introduced his plan to Matt Howell and Lance Workman. After several rounds of persuasive dialogue and mindless banter, the two agreed to partake in his project. Futhermore, Matt and Lance introduced him to various other sketchy figures that would eventually play an integral role in the development of his flowering obsession.

13 musicians, 4 states, 3 provinces, and 2 countries later, Colouring Season has completed their debut album entitled "Crime Fighter", and look forward to sharing their brand of "indie-pop on a vacation from hygiene" to the masses. The collaboration of musicians on the album produced a loose, honest feeling and allowed the band to have some fun. "We hope you have as much fun listening to it as we did recording it." We all do don't we?

Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. Featuring a deluxe slipcase and extensive, new liner notes, this is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. --Jerry McCulley

1 out of 5 stars Original 1978 Recording?.......2007-04-04

FIVE STAR FOR MUSIC. 1 STAR FOR AUDIO. Ok I've wanted this recording for almost 4 years. Now I got it. I am a discerning listener. This soundtrack is not the best quality. Tape hiss is very pronounced. You can tell it's taken directly from a cassette recording. I have other digital recordings of this music. They are miles ahead of this cd. Soundtrack is on the Rhino label. What? Rhino is not known for high fidelity. So it is very deceiving for one to buy a cd thinking it's John Williams conducting on a new recording in 1998 or whenever. It's the actual 1978 recording. Now let me unleash my rage. This thing sounds as if it's recorded with a single microphone in a bathroom, at a truck stop. Yes the music is phenomenal. My favorite track is #2 Krypton. I was hoping to discover some new hidden melodies that I've never heard in previous recording (original 1978). Nope. This IS the 1978 recording. So I will be getting the Debney recording just so I can hear what I'm missing. Love the music. Just can't hear it. ALL OF IT! But cool booklet. I can't listen to a booklet. But I got it. Whoopee.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME! John Williams shows again why he's the master of movie scores.......2006-08-31

After over a year of trying to find a seller of this fine soundtrack, I finally found it! It is high time that the full score was released on CD.
The original soundtrack release from 1978, while still an excellent collection, was sadly lacking in several of the best cues from the film. Most important of these was Track 12 (Disc 1) in which the helicopter crashes on the Daily Planet's roof and dangles precariously above the street. Williams builds on it, introducing Superman's theme into it as Clark Kent runs across the street, then rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' - the symbol of the House of El - then enters the revolving door & exits as Superman. At the end of this is one of my favorite cues; the Superman theme is played as the Man of Steel appears above Metropolis, flying over the city on the hunt for criminals. 'Crime of the Century' (Track 6, Disc 2) was one of my favorite cues; this one portrayed the missile convoy as it made its way along the freeway, where Luthor staged the accident to get his cronies close enough to sabotage the missiles. There are too many new tracks to list here that should have been included the first time around, just a lack of space precluded this from happening.

5 out of 5 stars Is John Williams Superman???.......2006-08-20

After listening to the CD, John Williams must be Superman. By far, the greatest movie score ever written.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2006-08-10

Other than the over kill of "Can you read my mind", an excellent collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hector, about the liner notes..........2006-07-14

I have the previous edition, and the notes that came with it were nestled next to the CD in a thick booklet (with a cover of Reeve in front of an American flag) that was large enough for the slipcase cover, but too big to fit into the CD case front. Otherwise, the one-sheet cover that came with your soundtrack is identical to the slipcase version.

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic pop art !.......2001-01-29

Colouring Season explore the concept of simplicity, unleashing a plethora of well crafted, sincere and inspiring pop sagas that engage the heart, mind and soul.

Their debut album "Crime Fighter" divulges into the eccentric, and at times, playful mind of frontman Faisal Sethi, revealing an inner anxiety and honesty of a boy doomed to yesterday.

Filled with quirky, intelligent lyrics and uncompromised passion, Crime Fighter flows with a melodic dignity, solidifying art in simplicity.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent Album.......2001-01-25

Coloring Season's sound is fresh, inspiring and original, a kind of juxtaposition of sounds, which are melded skillfully to produce a unique, uncomprimised album.

Although every song is solid, nothing can compare with the haunting sound of lead singer Faisal Sethi's voice, backed by melodic guitar, unleashing the rarity of "Chercher Le Femme."

The other songs shine brilliantly also, "The Valley Of The Rogues" and "My Favorite Month" to name but a few, are all propelled by true artistry, one which adds to the understated sophistication of the album.

There is a lot of chemistry here, not only in the music itself, but in the musicians ability to release an esoteric, inner world which is at once accessable, enjoyable and ulimately, satisfying.

5 out of 5 stars Indie album suprises all........2000-08-05

In a world full of boy bands and over-hyped one hit wonders, the debut album from Colouring Season entitled "Crime Fighter" is a refreshing change of pace.

This is one of the most honest records I have heard in recent memory. It's pop-hooks, crunchy guitars and tender vocals present the listener to an interesting, challenging sound that strays enough from the norm to remain very entertaining. The band makes the most of the "indie-pop" sound they create by allowing the listening audience to take the band for what they are: musicians doing what they do because they love to do it.

Beginning with it's rather bizarre intoduction (you'll have to take a listen), the album flows into it's first track "She's My Girl" with a melody to remember, before introducing yet another unique melody in the very percussive "My Favourite Month". This album is filled with quirky gems that ask you to hit the "skip" button back for just one more listen. Highlights include "Pocket Full of Mojos", "Crush", "In Dreams", and the title track "Crime Fighter" which boasts a a thick chord progression that you only hope young highschool kids make out to. The album ends with one of the most peaceful songs I have heard in "Naptime" and then asks you to take another listen.

This album suprised me and I hope it does the same for you. In an industry notorious for it's relentless pursuit of the "dollar", take the time to support and listen to a suprisingly good record from an important new band.

5 out of 5 stars The Faiz Rocks.......2000-08-03

Faisal Sethi is one of the most talented musicians to come outta Canada. Forget about Alanis Morissette or Celene Dion! They don't deserve the attention -- Faisal and Colouring Season are the ones who will conquer America!

If you buy one record this year, spend your dough on Crime Fighter.
