A Do-It-Yourselfer Does It Great!!!.......2002-02-18
Jon Gindick has long been self-publishing harmonica instruction books for those of us who want to learn how to play better. From his "Natural Blues & Country Harmonica For The Musically Hopeless" to his more recent "Harmonica Americana", he has shown us the ins and outs of the humble harmonica.
On this CD Gindick puts his money where his mouth is. Writing and playing each and every track on this album himself, Gindick shows us what any skilled musician can do when he sets his mind to it. The music is absolutely professional and enjoyable. Gindick is not only a top-notch writer of books, but a highly talented songwriter as well. As should be expected, the music is totally first-rate.
It is a pleasure to listen to this album. Jon Gindick lives up to his reputation nad I hope that we get the chance to hear a lot more from him in the future.
Jon sings his Soul........2002-01-07
You may know Jon as the author of the Klutz book, "How to play the Harmonica for the Musically Hopeless" as well as others.... I have been a student of his books and tapes for years and I strongly recommend this album. It is moving, haunting and joyful. The title track is especially emotional to me; not in a sad way, but a beautiful and profound love song from a husband to his wife.
Jon obviously has many musical influences (he teaches country, blues, rock, Gospel and folk all very proficiently), but this album is all Jon. You can hear his soul.
Alternative Folk Rock with an Edge.......2000-08-04
Jon Gindick's new album is listenable and haunting, the kind of album you dig right out of the box, but that keeps unfolding the more you listen. Jon's taken harmonica playing to a new level of rich and expressive. Harmonica players will find info on key and position, but this is way beyond a learning, jamming CD. There's poetry in the lyrics, attitude in the singing, and playfulness in the instrumentation. This one's staying in my CD player for a while.

Jon Gindick's books and recordings have been the choice for aspiring harmonica players for years. Now Jon is offering an album that is not only another learning tool but includes some of the most creative songwriting and harmonica playing I've heard in years. Each song creates it's own unique mood and draws you in. You can't help but hear the emotion both in Jon's vocals and his incredible harp playing. I would highly recommend this record to not only fans of great harmonica but to anyone looking for a unique listening experience.
