About the Artist
A key member of the infamous "Bromley contingent" which helped to redefine fashion and culture in seventies England, Steven Severin formed Siouxsie and The Banshees in 1976 with Siouxsie Sioux. Steven was featured on all 14 Banshees albums and 30 singles as co-lyricist, songwriter and bassist during their two decades long career. During their reign, Siouxsie and the Banshees established themselves as one of the foremost alternative artists and the only members of the London punk scene to continue to evolve and and succeed until their 90s breakup. Since the split of Siouxsie and The Banshees Steven Severin has been busy working on various solo projects and collaborations as well as continuing to produce artists and writing articles on the arts and areas of intrigue for English publications such as The Guardian, The Independent, and The Passion. His first published collection of erotic prose/poetry, The Twelve Revelations, is set for a fall, 2000 release.

After having spent 20 years working within the confines of major record company labels Steven has decided to eschew all of that. Steven’s RE: label, which is totally Internet based, does not have to concern itself with the current obsessed pop-orientated singles market, allowing for greater artistic freedom and control. The RE: label intends to release material other than music, such as prose/poetry, spoken word and video. Future plans include developing multimedia work "solely" for "the Web".

Visions, written and produced by Steven Severin, marks a radical departure from his previous musical compositions and the first release from RE:. Originally commissioned to write the soundtrack to Nigel Wingrove's film Visions of Ecstasy Steven has completely RE:worked the soundtrack, originally 18 minutes long, into a 45 minute ambient instrumental album.

Maldoror is Steven’s second solo instrumental endeavor and the first in the RE:play series. It is a dark, textural work which serves as the score to Os Satryos’ theatrical experience, Chants de Maldoror. Those familiar with Siouxsie and the Banshees will recognize the further development of Steven’s ability to provoke the subconscious and intricacies of human emotion in a completely new musical setting.

The Woman in the Dunes is Steven’s third solo release and second in the RE:play series. Written as the score to controversial dancer/choreographer Shakti and the Vasanta Mala dance company’s piece of the same name. It features the vocals of Jarboe on a remake of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You” and a collection of almost entirely improvised instrumental pieces.

In addition to Steven’s musical craftings, the website serving as RE:’s home-base continues to develop. Visitors to www.stevenseverin.com can read articles on J.G. Ballard, Roman Polanski, Sarah Stockbridge, Nico, and others, all written by Steven Severin and published in UK newspapers The Guardian and The Independent (RE:Bound). The site has pages devoted to all of Steven’s works, past and present, including a rare opportunity to see the inspirations and meanings of his lyrics. Site explorers may also indulge in a hypertext fiction project, Interior Exterior, which allows contributors to intertwine their writing with Steven’s.

Former collaborations have included co-writing and performing The Agony is The Ecstacy with Lydia Lunch; co-writing the single Torment for Marc Almond as well as forming The Glove with Robert Smith of The Cure and releasing an album entitled Blue Sunshine. Severin has also worked with the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation to produce a tape loop of for the 80th birthday celebration version of John Cage's Rozart Mix. Recently, he has served as Executive Producer for the score to Holy Body Tattoo’s dance piece, Circa, and has produced the Tiger Lillies’ forthcoming album, entitled Circus Songs.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Isabelle is the best.......2004-04-27

I'm a french girl leaving in L.A and I didn't know Isabelle Antena before this compilation. Not only her track (the opening one) is the best of the CD , but I discovered her best of album (l'alphabet du plaisir) and she's one of the greatest bossa singer I've ever heard.A real diva.

5 out of 5 stars Good CD........2002-06-11

While I profess to know very little about music, I think I have good taste. I love this cd, every track from start to finish seems to find the right blend between groovy/relaxing. Would highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2002-03-25

Another one of those trip-hop/jazz compilations that just won't leave the CD player. An eclectic blend of smooth cuts from Thievery Corp, Nightmares On Wax, and others, perfect for coming down from a fast night of drinking too much and sobering out. The song by Cool Blue (track 9, not 10) is just so chill, it sends shivers and Dub Tractor's "104 Dub" has that ambient groove to it...way cool.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2002-03-12

This CD has been in almost constant rotation in the CD player at our house since purchase. It flows really well, each song is very different, but very interesting, and they all seem to complement each other. Can't wait to try the other ESL offerings.

4 out of 5 stars Sizzles, fizzles, then sizzles........2002-02-06

I was interested in this track as I knew of Batu and some of the other artists featured. But to be honest, the only tracks I listen to on this album are the first two. The Isabelle Antena track is incredibly smooth while the Batu track seems to teleport you back in time to Brazil in the 70's early 80's. But from then on up for a while the album goes into a 70's sort of lounge feel, which isn't really bad considering that's the way the album's supposed to go. Just not my cup of tea.

So if you're looking for something like the first two tracks, where are heavy Bossa Nova/tropical feel, you get it in the first two tracks only. Otherwise I'd recommend Jet Society instead - and if you have that, Boss-a-Troniq (1+2), Brazilectro (1+2) or Hedkandi's Serve Chilled Volume 3. The rest of this album is solid with some ups - notably Shantel and Thievery Corporation's own track in it.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A true five star single 4 videos 2 hit songs 1 remix 1B-side.......2002-04-08

This single contains four tracks. Starting with Break Stuff, a hit song from Limp Bizkit's Significant Other album. Then there is an exclusive track called Crushed, which is a simple song, nothing special. The third song is Limp Bizkit's first hit Faith and the single ends with a remix of Counterfeit that sounds better than the original with a new melody backing Fred's vocals. Finally, there is a huge CD Extra when you put it into your CD ROM, four videos (Faith, Nookie, Re Arranged, and N2-Gether Now). The unfortunate thing about the videos first is that they are not full screen the lyrics are edited (no swears, no middle fingers like on MTV). There is an additional few seconds on each video from the originals on MTV, making this a true collector's item. Five star import all the way, one of the best imports in the world.

5 out of 5 stars Break Stuff review (top song).......2001-03-02

WHAT CAN I SAY?????? Limp Bizkit u rule. This is the best rock song i have heard in my life. The lyrics are cool and so are the band. This is a song for everyone and is a good listen for any with a bad day at the office. This may be offensive like it says on the cover, but this makes the song. This track is wicked. There are so many good things to say about this track but there is not enough space to type them. Limp are the best.

5 out of 5 stars Nice Single.......2000-06-11

This single is pretty hip. It has Faith, which appeared on Limp Bizkit's Three Dollar Bill, Y'all, Counterfeit, a song that also appeared on Three Dollar Bill, Y'all, appears in this Australian Break Stuff single, but mixed, and is now dubbed Counterfeit(Lethal Dose Mix), it has the album version of Break Stuff, the previously unreleased track, Crushed, and this great single has 4 music videos.4! It has the videos of Faith, Nookie, Re-arranged, and N2 Gether Now. This is a great single. Get It!

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Music without the video..........2007-03-24

..kind of sucks. Let me explain. I was watching a music video online and found the song Break Stuff sounded great. So I went and bought this disc. And to my horror I found Break Stuff and the other songs were so bland. Not bad, no, much worse than that. Boring.
I realized, that most songs today were created and written to go along with video images. The lyrics, music and video all hold each other up. Without one of the legs modern music, made for muisc videos, just does not hold up off the screen. It is flat and tasteless.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT!.......2000-04-22

This is a great single! You get the unedited versions of Break Stuff, N 2 Gether Now, Crushed, and an Enchanced CD video of Rearranged! Talk about a great CD. I reacently got this and love it. If you like Limp Bizkit, BUY IT! BUY IT NOW!

4 out of 5 stars New Option for Wedding Music for Couples Craving Originality.......2006-02-11

With more and more couples striving to plan more unique and personalized weddings, I'm often asked for new suggestions on music for the ceremony. Many couples today want their musical selections to be fresh and different - not pieces that have been recycled zillions of times at other weddings. Here's one possible suggestion: I was recently sent the album Elements by Pete Kronowitt for a listen. If what you want is something that your guests haven't already heard at wedding after wedding, "Now It's We" might be a contender as a selection for the wedding ceremony. The song is very personal to the artist - he wrote it with his sister's wedding in mind, however, I think many couples will find the lyrics equally meaningful. A break from the same old same old wedding music, "Now It's We" is a piece that has the potential to capture your wedding guests attention and get them to perk up their ears and really LISTEN. As an aside, I'm a sucker for a great CD cover, and this one's cool enough to frame and hang on the wall.

Clean aggressive attack with guitars that forge a sustained alliance between melody and energy topped with vocals that are alternatley sinister and sexy. Eleven snorting blasts of killer hooks, crafty songrwriting and pure rock-n-roll fury! A must have CD.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Awesome, awesome..........2005-02-21

Okay, so, technically I've only heard the first two songs on the album, but they alone make this a worthwhile purchase. It's a perfect blend of punk-indie-hardcore-something, lol. The vocals remind me a bit of The Distillers meets Tsunami Bomb, with a touch of Sahara Hotnights. The music is pretty decent as well, though the rough, gritty vocals do tend to almost drown out the instruments. It's.. unique, overall, but I love it. ^.^ Definitely worth your money and your time to check out!
