Substrates - Ambient Works 1995-1999

Editorial Reviews
XLR8R
A seamless fusion of rich, organic instrumentation and lush, pixelated soundscapes.

STYLUS
A masterful achievement.

Album Description
Substrates finds Sonogram in an even mellower mood than their debut Heartbeat Submarines. Though the record kicks off with three drone-like pieces originally intended for alter ego Tear Ceremony’s Film Decay CD, it soon ventures off into the most melodic pieces Sonogram has recorded.

Piano melodies suggest the simplicity of Satie while weightless synths recall lighter moments from Kubrick’s 2001. Recorded in a time before there was ProTools in every home, with a couple of modest synths and a heavy dose of Ingmar Bergman films for influence.
