Les Claypool's continued Genius.......2007-04-07
A must have for those who want to hear something COMPLETELY different from any mainstream band. Primus has a very unique sound that many people find unpleasant, however, I found this album quite enjoyable.
Hamburger Train boring??.......2007-03-21
The only reason I feel compelled to write a review for this album is because of the other reviewer refering to Hamburger Train as boring. What? Are you insane? I have probably listened to Hamburger Train a thousand times and still get giddy when those first notes come through the speakers. Oh wait, it's not in 4/4 time. How dare they take a unique appraoach to their music. Not only does Les continually reinvent the bass line throughout the song, but this is Ler doing what Ler does best. Thank God for Primus or the modern music scene would truly be dead. It is sort of ironic that this same reviewer listed DMV as his favorite track. That is the only one I have sort of tired of. Oh well, we are all entitled to our own opinions and that is why Primus began in the first place.
Good effort found in Claypool's more dark work.......2007-02-13
This album is a change of pace from Primus' rockin, funky grooves and hooks that are created in their other albums (Sailing The Sea of Cheese, They Can't All Be Zingers, etc.) making a slightly twisted, dark, and almost caveman-like sounds that is oddly beautiful. Starting off with a thrashing blitzkrieg of drum and bass on My Name Is Mud to more oddball stories of suicide (Bob) and worldly issues (Welcome to This World). Its power weakens towards the end but still earning a solid four stars overall. This really is not a bad place to start...it's a cool, unique collection of Primus.
Les Claypool Is A Genius.......2006-11-05
With a high amount of quirky talent with his vocals and bass skills, Primus is not to be avoided. Very humorous as well. Nothing can match to the uniqueness of Primus. Nothing.
shows you what critics know . . . .......2006-09-18
I became a Primus fan in early 1992, after buying _Sailing_the_Seas_of_Cheese, and I think _Pork_Soda_ is a fantastic album! However, pompous critics continue to annoy me with their tendency to dismiss this album with such ignorant and insipid "critical commentaries." Not only is "weird" an irrelevant and imprecise term to use when describing inventive, non-commercial music like Primus makes, but I'm surprised that so-called "critics" would still use such a generic term. If you like your rock far left of center with tight, inventive musicianship and a twisted sense of humor, buy this album and the entire Primus catalogue.
