Lonesome Crowded West

Editorial Reviews

The opening track, "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine," explodes out of your speakers with sharp, see-sawing guitars and shouted vocals, an irresistible melange of angular rhythms and mighty, powerful dynamics. The rest of the songs are similarly pulled along by some unseen force, driven by an energy found in classic post-punk bands like Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 or Drunken Boat. Some reviewers have referenced the Pixies, and while that's not off the mark, this is more like the Pixies undergoing dental work--without anesthesia. --Lorry Fleming --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Album Description

Issaquah, WA, indie rock trio MODEST MOUSE was formed in 1993 by vocalist/guitarist Isaac Brock, bassist Eric Judy, and drummer Jeremiah Green. This album was released in 1997 and was the band's first for US label MATADOR. And talk about original, the band has something for just about everyone! They can do quiet, brooding acoustics, dark and pounding thrashers, funky jump-around emo, just about anything. 5 out of 5 stars masterful transition.......2007-07-09

i was listenting to crooked rain at work when a girl came up to me and said i should listen to modest mouse. two tears later i bought this album and cursed my stupidity in delay. brilliance is apparent throughout. great transitions between song sections that retain the former and herald the forthcoming masterfully. buy this album if you like pavement

5 out of 5 stars No brainer.......2007-07-08

"Buy LCW and M&A together for 23.46!!"

Even if you were stranded in the desert and needed the 23.46 for gas money to get out, it would be worth it.

5 out of 5 stars the best album ever.......2007-02-12

This was the first album I heard by Modest Mouse, months ago, and I absolutely fell in love. I just can't get enough of it. Brock's lisp is endearing and his lyrics are heartfelt poetry. Musically the songs on this album are diverse and catchy. Each song tells a story, and if you look close enough you'll find a deeper meaning. It's probably my favorite album by any band.

5 out of 5 stars Another 5 star album from Modest Mouse? Yes, indeed........2007-01-21

Modest Mouse are ridiculous. They're just too good. They kill me.

5 out of 5 stars You Must Hear This.......2007-01-12

I was sitting there with my friend drinking beer and he said "you know what you would like" and put on this cd. I can't believe I missed the entire modest mouse phenomenom!!! This is the greatest cd, especially song 6!!!
