Galaxie 500 [Box set] [Enhanced]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Documenting a band that helped define the sound and attitude of late-'80s and early-'90s independent guitar rock, this box is essential for old fans and new converts alike. Dean Wareham, Damon Krokowski, and Naomi Yang were part of a Northeastern music scene that distilled the Velvet Underground, Television, and Joy Division into its own brand of post-art-school rock. Galaxie 500 took the Velvets as their blueprint for shimmery, glazed pop with a warmth and depth that set them apart from many of their louder, angrier contemporaries. The band's three records; a fourth disc of covers, outtakes, and rarities; and a gorgeous 48-page booklet are included, along with multimedia tracks of four of the band's videos. --Donovan Finn

..........2005-05-30
Their is a formula that seems to be followed and it makes it hard for most of the tracks to stand out. Also this dean wareham can't really sing. what is suprising is that the formula is good enough that it doesnt bother me at all. The music is really good even if the bass player looks like an a-hole. GREAT Album
It bends rather than breaks.......2004-09-29
Whiny, annoying whus-pop for aging hipsters. But these eunuchs have a way with a melody so I dislike it far less than I thought I would. Flaccid, yet (somehow) fun. Nice drumming too.
Why so hyped?.......2004-08-23
If I could choose any Galaxie 500 album to buy, it'd be this one. Having said that, there are only 3 songs on here that I enjoy listening to, and two of them are covers ("Strange", the Twinkies song; "Ceremony"; "What A Pity"). The rest feel unfocussed and wonky, much like the tunes on other albums. I think you'd be better off listening to a friend's copy and spending your money on something else (Pylon comes to mind, as do the first two Lilys albums).
One of my "desert island discs".......2003-10-16
Back when music sucked in the late 80s, there were a few notable exceptions. It seems that every critic later realized that grunge would have been nothing were it not for prototypical bands like the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine, and... OK, the late 80s didn't totally suck, I guess. Galaxie 500 was a trio from Boston, with simple instrumentation (guitar/voice, bass/voice, drums) and likewise simple tunes. They were extremely adept at utilizing their untested and somewhat limited talents, and ended up with something that was much more than the sum of its parts. True, the lyrics weren't particularly great, Dean Wareham (later the leader of Luna) usually sang an octave too high for my liking, and the bass player claimed she hardly knew how to play. But, as evidenced by the purposefully-sometimes-lagging drumming in "Strange", they knew exactly what they were doing and what they were capable of, and here they turned out a subtle masterpiece of consistently lulling, tuneful songs And they knew who and how to cover, too - Yoko Ono ("Decomposing Trees"), George Harrison ("Isn't It A Pity"), and even New Order's "Ceremony" as a bonus track, which is the standout.
Gimme a break..........2003-09-01
There are exactly one and one-half excellent songs on here, and even when the music is finally on, the lyrics are so trite it nearly completely ruins the moment. For heaven's sakes, the best song on here sings about Twinkies, you guys. Come on!!! I don't know what all the fives are all about in the other reviews here, but it bugs me. These people live in a different universe than myself.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad CD. It's not terrible. It's OK, in fact. But I was sucked into blowing fifteen dollars on it via the same blowhard unfathomable propaganda that appears in these other reviews here: Yep, one time I read in some or other indie music magazine that was raving about the old "Galaxie 500"; and, for goodness sake, to this day, I am baffled. For this was not a great group, folks. Not by a long shot. They weren't bad, but they weren't good either. Gimme a break.

Customer Reviews:
This is their best.. 10 stars?.......2006-10-30
Euprhoric aural melancholia. Beautiful stuff.
I saw G500 for the first time at the Rat in Boston opening for the Pixies. Not many G500 fans in that crowd.
I was there to see the Pixies whom I'd never heard, but who were said to be good. I'd not yet heard of G500. This album had only been just released according to Dean. I think I cried listening to them play. We left during the Pixies set as I started to get asthmatic from the smoke and the crowd started to bash around like crazy.
You can buy me flowers..........2006-02-26
I first heard On Fire at a place I used to work. Really sort of heard it in the background. Then I decided to buy the album later and was drawn in with Dean's awkward voice and that distinct sound of theirs- see other reviews for that explanation. Then after buying this album, its become one of my favorites.
I love that Galaxie 500 allowed themselves to not be "pretty." Yet, end up being pretty anyway. By that I mean, Dean's vocals aren't what you'd call "normal." But if you like "normal" music, you wouldn't be reading this review. Although I was pretty much listening to crap when Galaxie 500 were in their prime, I'm glad to discover them now and sad that they were virtually overlooked in their time. But now is the time to look into them! Favorites on this album are the first 2 tracks. "Flowers" being so sweet yet haunting at the same time. The lyrics in "Tugboat" are sensual and powerful: "I don't want to go to your party/ I don't want to talk with your friends/ I don't want to vote for your president/ I just want to be your tugboat captain/ It's a place I'd like to be..." I don't know what exactly he's talking about yet I understand it and am convinced he'd make a great tugboat captain.
This music is unusual, captivating, melodic, gorgeous and strange. If you love music like that, you'll love this.
Where Does Galaxie 500 End and Luna Begin?.......2005-10-05
Does anyone care? Certainly not me. Today brings us the same sometimes soaring, sometimes meandering, sometimes crescendo music; the same jaded but longing lyrics; and the inevitable why-bother instrumental cut as can be found on almost all of Dean Wareham's later work with Luna (and will be found, one suspects, in whatever band name he chooses for his post-Luna identity). The vocals seem a little thinner here, the instrumentation less lush, but those are differences of degree not kind and may be due as much to the lousy speakers on my office computer as anything else. Nothing of it matters to me. I'll happily listen to any of it. Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste verges on loud hysteria. Pictures and Flowers would nicely fit in the same set as Chinatown. My single favorite cut on the CD is Tugboat, but that's a popular choice. No expectations of novelty, which means for a Luna fan -- oops, Galaxie 500 fan -- expectations rewarded, and gladly so.
Raw fiery psychedelia.......2005-07-04
The best sounding lead guitar i`ve ever listened to,plus a very special voice, makes me fall in love with this american band.To see these guys live should have been a mystical experience, that screamin`guitar whining under red lights and focuses...The direction that is going to take the song is never predictable due to Dean Wareham`s guitar style, chaotic and fuzzy. His voice seems to be coming from another dimension ,filled with angst and alienation. This was authentic and innovative in the 80`s.And nowadays it can amaze many with those catchy guitar harmonies still fresh. As others have said, the music here can hardly be catalogued or classified, strange, abstract...but leaves a great impact on the listener.Either you love it or you hate it.I belong to the first group of course.Being original is no easy thing.
One of the best things I've ever heard.......2005-05-03
I came across this band by listening to Launch Cast radio. I'm so glad I found out about them. This album is possibly one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. It's sad that not many people have heard of them.
I definently suggest that everyone should buy this one. This is possibly the only album that I own that I can listen to (and enjoy) Every track on it.
This is also an album that you can listen to at any time. Whether you're sad, happy, lovesick, broken hearted... whatever.
This one will probablly never leave my cd changer.

There's a reason Galaxie 500 broke up after this album..........2006-05-13
...Dean realized he and his bandmates could never top it. In parting, Galaxie 500 left their short-lived career without a blemish. A perfect end for a near-perfect band.
Essential in every respect.
i wrote a poem on a dog biscut, but your dog refused 2 look .......2005-06-09
at it. And so begins "4th of July", probably one of my favorite Galaxie 500 lines ever, next to "I stayed @ home on the 4th of july, and i pulled the shades so i didn't have to see the sky, and i decided to have a bed in , but i forgot to invite anybody"
Only Dean Wareham's fractured genius can paint a picture of isolation and self-doubt in this way, and his detached storytelling verses remind me of "The Gift" in a sillier setting. "Sorry" has this cool dreamy haze going on, as does "melt away", and "king of spain pt. 2" with its delicate percussion and waves of guitar gently drifts along. Find your own classics, own this lp. I can't speak for the reissue because I have the rough trade orig.
a full round of 5 stars.......2004-09-28
I've sat in the middle of conversations about this band: "Are they SHOEGAZE or DREAM-POP?" I've seen people get in scraps about this. Go all Francis Begbie to hell on this. It's nonsense!! Who cares? It's just good indie music, when "indie" meant what it was intented to mean. If your a fan of Unrest or the Bomb-pops, I highly suggest buying any of their albums. There is no reason why you shouldn't at least check it out. This american college band was a HUGE influence on many European bands in the early 90's. As powerful as the Velvet Underground?(tick that under "yes").**I know there's some Jesus and Mary Chain fan who wants to lamp me one!! But errm, at least Galaxie 500 didn't use drum-machines!! gawd no they're not the Cocteau Twins!!
A Few Great Songs, But Horrible Production.......2004-08-16
I remember hearing this CD when I was in college and Galaxie 500 was one of the current CMJ media darlings. I probably heard it on some very bad stereo equipment, so I never noticed the fact that the recording was very tinny, garbled, and the recording level was very low. Unfortunately, this CD sounds like it was recorded in my garage, even when played on high-end equipment. Lo-fi gone horribly wrong.
The songs, on the other hand, are some of the band's best. The fist five tracks stand out until the continuity is derailed by the Yoko Ono cover. I really enjoy the guitar work at the end of the song (Listen, the Snow is Falling), but I can't get over the fact that it is a Yoko Ono cover. For those not familiar with the band, I would describe them as an updated Velvet Underground without all the extended harsh sonic freakouts.
Garbage? Hardly........2004-07-11
I must admit that it took me many listens to This Is Our Music before it truly sunk in as a piece of slow-moving dream-pop genius. Galaxie 500 create a lush epic where guitars both acoustic and electric swirl together in a gorgeous haze. The record opens with the incredible "Fourth Of July," which for a long time ruined the album for me. This song is perhaps Galaxie 500's strongest, and to me, everything that followed just could not hold a candle to it. But after a while, and after getting heavily into the work of My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, The Velvet Underground, and Low, the other songs on the record began to show themselves as unique, brilliant entities. "Hearing Voices" and "Spook" are surreal pop tunes, while the superb "Summertime" and a cover of Yoko Ono's "Listen, The Snow Is Falling" are lavish guitar epics that give Dean Wareham a chance to let loose while all the sounds build to a monumental crescendo. If you decide to explore this record by Galaxie 500, do not let initial disappointment scare you away. Like all great records, This Is Our Music takes time to infiltrate one's consciousness as a piece of extraordinary artistry.

Why buy them all separately? You know you'll buy them all .........2001-06-02
This box set includes all of the albums plus "uncollected" tracks not found together anywhere else. A must for all Galaxie 500 fans, even if you have the albums on vinyl already. I particularly like their cover of the Rutles' "Cheese and Onions".
unique sound.......1999-10-19
Dismissing Galaxie 500 as "another Velvet Underground knockoff" is like calling Joy Division "another Doors knockoff". Sure, there are obvious similarities. But Galaxie 500 created their own sound: a sound to match a lethargic teenager and his romantic yearnings. "Tugboat" is the ultimate anthem for a shy, withdrawn young man suffering from a case of unrequited love. Played quietly, it's a perfect lullaby. At loud volumes, it sounds almost frantic, with the final guitar solo screaming over the violent drums and chiming two-chord riff. One amazing thing about Galaxie 500 is, if you like their sound, you will probably enjoy every song they recorded. While ON FIRE and TODAY provide instant gratification, THIS IS OUR MUSIC will probably require multiple listens before it provides comparable enjoyment. The UNCOLLECTED disc will exceed most expectations, making the box set a 'must' for fans of the band's released recordings. A word of warning: this music makes lethargy seem appealing and inviting.
This band did it right.......1999-10-12
Cranked out 3 albums and were done with it. And, apparently, made the music they wanted to make. Signature tunes are soaring and sad at the same time. So many good songs on these discs-- Blue Thunder, When Will You Come Home, Plastic Bird, Tugboat, 4th of July, Oblivious-- shoot, everything they did is good, good.
Saw a car commercial the other day, the music playing in the background was "Instrumental" from _Today_.
approaching perfection.......1999-09-28
Where can you begin with this band? How about a reunion tour as coctau twins did't quite cut it for me in 91"? There are but possibly a few bands that have had such a complete influence on my life (way to go guys n gal)!! The music created is very well crafted with a minimalist approach. Though admittedly influenced by VU plus others, this band is in my opinion very original and NECESSARY. They created wonderful new sounds independantly of other sounds around at the time.. how wonderful, a band that was actually creative. The american public was not ready for them at the time, and to this day like most other truely great bands, they remain largely unknown to this day. Best cd-this is our music. Perfect sunday stoner rock and roll perfect for not getting out of bed on a snowy sunday morning(or afternoon) when you had a bit too much fun the night before!! DO NOT let this gem get by you.. FOR REAL
Jesus!.......1999-08-13
How often is is that you can own the entire recorded output of one of the most important bands you will ever listen to? (well, everything excluding the live disc "Copenhagen")
G-500 is beautiful and unsettling, simultaneously. This music will affect you mind, your soul, the course of your life. Listen.

Recalling Boston bands, most will name the alt-rock clique that includes the Pixies, the Breeders, Blake Babies, and Throwing Muses. Classic-rock apostles will summon images of Aerosmith. But very few will name one of the most influential bands of the late '80s and early '90s. In the United States, Galaxie 500 remained nearly anonymous throughout their brief but brilliant career. Enjoying a broader admiration in the U.K., Galaxie 500 performed there frequently, enjoying an outpouring of critical acclaim with every tour. Their sound nods to the Velvet Underground with its uncomplicated yet provocative slo-mo melodies. But their distorted wash of guitars and reverbed-into-oblivion vocals make their contribution to the shoegazing movement of 1988-1992 essential. The Portable Galaxie 500 is a compilation of the best songs from their previous albums. With each listen, you'll regret more and more the brevity of this band's marvelous tenure. --Beth Bessmer
Customer Reviews:
Buy "On Fire" or "Today" Instead.......2003-02-25
The music of Galaxie 500, like the music of Nick Drake, lends itself well to compilations, because it all sounds so similar. It would be difficult to put together a collection of songs by either artist that did not hold together well. For that very same reason, however, compilations are unnecessary. You can get the same high quality listening experience by buying one of the original albums, and then if you like it you can buy the others. With Galaxie 500, the best place to start is "On Fire," and you won't go wrong with "Today" either. (Stay away from "This Is Our Music," however. That one only contains a few good songs.)
"The Portable Galaxie 500" is a nice selection, but like all other fans of the band, I do have my quibbles about some of the omissions, especially "Temperature's Rising," "It's Getting Late," and "Isn't It A Pity." The compilers also missed a golden opportunity by failing to include "The Other Side," a magnificent track with Naomi singing lead, which as far as I know is only available in the boxed set (a virtually impossible-to-find item right now--at a reasonable price, that is). Furthermore--and I may be completely alone in this opinion--I can't stand the saxophone version of "Blue Thunder" included here, while the "straight" version of that song (from "On Fire") is my favorite Galaxie 500 song.
So if you're looking to test the waters with this great band, go straight to the original releases. Other reviewers on this site have already provided some wonderful descriptions of the Galaxie 500 sound, so no need for a recap here.
nice collection of Galaxie 500's stuff.......2002-03-06
some good trax on here..most notably "Tugboat" and the sax version of "Blue Thunder" but that vid for Blue Thunder is great...one of my favorite vids...but i recommend starting off with the On Fire lp or the Box Set..
My First Exposure..........2000-04-30
I did the Dean Wareham thing backwards. I started with Luna and figured I couldn't go wrong with Galaxie because I LOVE Luna. However, the style of Galaxie is different. The lyrics weren't quite as clever, and the tunes weren't as satisfying as any of the Luna stuff I have (expect perhaps Pup Tent). However, I do have the distinct feeling that Galaxie is music that grows on you. If you're a Luna fan, give Galaxie a spin, but don't expect instant gratification.
Sure, this CD makes you fly..........2000-03-14
...but this compilation is far from doing justice to the mindblowing talents of Dean, Damon and Naomi. There are so many injustices in the selection of songs considered "best of" G500 that this record should be illegal in 48 states. Please! Where's "King of Spain", "Oblivious", "Hearing Voices", "Melt Away" and, at least, half of the songs from "On Fire"? Please! Don't tell me they didn't fit the CD! Ask Robert Pollard how many songs he used to put in a compact disc! Nevertheless it's an amazing band performing amazing songs, all soulful, melodic and so simple it makes your heart ache and your head slip away for a few minutes. Just damn beautiful. "Blue Thunder" is something out of this world. Although, if you want some ALL THE GLORY of Galaxie 500, do yourself a big favour and buy all three albums (or the G500 Box-set). Newcomers can begin with "On Fire". But it's all good. You won't be making a mistake if it's your heart that's still beating in your chest. You got the idea, right? It's a great LP, I only gave it 3 stars for the many songs missing.
small, grey and quiet-- perfection.......1999-08-29
This "best-of" of the wonderful Galaxie 500 does them more than justice by wisely pulling off all of the high points from their three albums. the alternate version of "Blue Thunder" is especially affecting, what with the addition of devastating saxophone-- the broken-apart climax that Galaxie 500 always hinted around without ever tipping over that edge. Blue Thunder is worth your hard-earned money as it is. The somber "Flowers" follows, giving you that feeling of watching someone you're totally enamored with live their life apart from you-- all in the snow, of course. Other high points include the cover of Yoko Ono's "Listen..." and "Another Day," their best song, in my opinion, shich again nearly breaks down with it's trying-to-keep-it-together vocal harmonies. I get misty-eyed just thinking about it. "Tugboat" ends this set, centering around the line "there's a place I'd like to be." Thanks to Dean and crew, we're there with him.

Good music, but drags on a bit........2005-08-15
When I got this, I was expecting indie rock mixed with a little jazz. I got what I expected, only it's a lot slower than I had hoped. By themselves, the songs are good, but I just can't listen to this album all the way through. 'Ueno Station' is a perfect example of how I feel about the album; good music that could drive me insane if I listened to it all the time.
the dream continues..........2005-06-02
Damon and Naomi's psych-atmospheric music cannot exactly be defined. However, their mood, emotion given to you can exactly be caught in every second of songs, of the albums. In the "Earth is Blue", this fact is more precise now. Their musical ability in the album is like flying at higher levels in the sky with the colaboration of Ghost guitarist Michio Kurihara as a virtual third group member, penetrated into Damon and Naomi's earth creating the most satisfying and sheerly transfixing work of the twosome's career...Naomi's cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", moreover, is going to weep you so high that the next song, "Ueno Station", with its melodramic and tasteful melody, becomes a definite classic in your brain. This album, in my opinion, is the peak of Damon & Naomi's career. Deserved to be bought.

Pete Townshend once opined that a Mod's worst sin was "bad timing," a notion that Boston's great alt-rock hope, Galaxie 500, seemed doomed to embody when they broke up on the eve of the Nirvana-spawned post-punk '90s gold rush. This 14-track compilation (plus a video for "Blue Thunder") of assorted demos, b-sides, and oddities was originally one of the highlights of the band's 1996 boxed retrospective and is available here as a stand-alone disc for the first time. The band's '87 demos capture G-500 at their most undistilled and insouciant, highlighted by Dean Wareham's jangly "Walking Song" and the fragile dreaminess of Naomi Young's "On the Floor." Wareham's weakness for tastefully snarky kitsch (which also seasons his droll modern collaboration with Britta Phillips) surfaces on the band's psych-fest cover of the Rutles' "Cheese and Onions," while the '90 outtake cover of Young Marble Giants' "Final Day" (one of the last tracks G-500 cut) offers a tragic example of his band's compelling, if largely unfulfilled promise. A live, '89 medley of the Beatles' "Rain" and Jonathan Richman's "Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste" further underscores the band's charms: a decidedly irreverent affection for pop history, wed to a noisy, psych-punk sense of boundless possibilities. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Good songs, poorly sequenced.......2005-07-01
Galaxie 500 only released three proper albums during its short life span, so this selection of outtakes and non-album tracks is especially welcome for those who crave that unique, hypnotic sound. It took me awhile to warm up to this CD, though, and I finally realized that the track sequencing had a lot to do with it.
The songs are arranged in reverse chronological order, which is always a bad idea because instead of listening to how a band's sound developed over time, you instead have to listen to it becoming more restricted. So what I finally did was I recorded these songs in a different order, chronological this time, onto one side of a 90-minute cassette tape.
When I listened back to it, suddenly the music all made sense. I should note that I eliminated "Blue Thunder w/sax" because it is an inferior version of the excellent song that can be found in unadulterated form on another album, and I also eliminated "Rain/Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste," because it is really a crime what they did to "Rain." To fill up the tape, I added "Here She Comes Now," the extra track on the CD version of "This Is Our Music," the album which I put on the other side of the tape.
So here's my running order:
1. Walking Song
2. The Other Side
3. On the Floor
4. Oblivious
5. I Can't Believe it's Me
6. Crazy
7. Jerome
8. Song in 3
9. Maracas Song
10. Cheese and Onions
11. Them
12. Final Day
13. Here She Comes Now
And here are the advantages of that running order, compared to the CD:
1. Instead of beginning with the amusing but awkward "Cheese and Onions," the album begins with "Walking Song," a stripped-down, uptempo number that is catchy and is the only track here that really sounds like a garage band.
2. The magnificent "The Other Side," with vocals by Naomi, is now prominently featured as the second track, instead of being buried toward the end of the compilation. This is the best non-album song by Galaxie 500, and is among their best songs ever. It amazes me that such a new band could put together a song that is so dynamic but at the same time so delicate.
3. "Cheese and Onions" takes its rightful place as a bit of comic relief toward the end of the album.
4. "Final Day" is now the last song (almost). What could possibly be more appropriate? It's a great song (I've never heard the Young Marble Giants' original), but is rather dark, so my addition of "Here She Comes Now" lightens the mood.
So if you are a Galaxie 500 fan, buy the album and dust off that old cassette player so you can place these songs in their rightful order. Or maybe you can somehow record them this way onto a blank CD. (I'm unfamiliar with the technology.)
Whoever decided on this backwards running order must have been the same person who decided to put the exact same liner notes in the reissues of all the Galaxie 500 CD's. So what the heck, maybe you can print off my review and use it as liner notes while you're at it. Happy listening!
ok... but could of been better!!!.......2004-09-08
whether you are a fan or not, galaxie 500 remains as one of the best, unknown bands of the last 20 years. their style remains unchallenged with the durability to remain timeless. however, in this latest album, "500" seems to take a step back in their meloncholic, progressive style that their fans have grown uccustomed to. their first two albums were great, but this one seems to need some work.

Album Description
One of the many rave reviews of New York City singer-songsmith Linda Draper's third album PATCHWORK proclaimed: "The strength of her output increases with each record and it's obvious that she's on the brink of achieving something great
" (Splendid ). Now with her much anticipated fourth album, titled " One Two Three Four" (PSRCD-033), this prediction is clearly evident. Joining forces once again with legendary downtown icon and music producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Sonic Youth, Urge Overkill, and founder of Shimmy Disc Records ), "One Two Three Four" is from start to finish, a truly divine and timeless listening experience, presenting Linda Draper's atmospheric space folk style.
The overall atmosphere of Linda Draper's latest LP flows with a subtle grace as well as its steady timing and deliberate pace, hence the title, "One Two Three Four." From the outset, the warmth and directness of Linda's voice draws you in - what makes you stay is the sincerity and integrity of her lyrics - and what keeps you coming back for more is the timeless quality of the music. "One Two Three Four" was recorded in downtown NYC at Tribeca Recording as well as in the more intimate setting at Noise New York. Apart from producing and engineering, Kramer contributes his unique musical style with his own lush and harmonious instrumental arrangements - accentuating the purity and brilliance of Linda Draper's angelic voice, lyrics, and her accomplished distinct guitar-playing style. Acoustic and bass guitar lines ebb and flow on songs such as the opening track, "Super Zero" with it's waltz-like tempo and catchy sing-along quality. The album also includes the haunting "Baby Inchworm" where Draper's choir-like vocals are sprinkled with bits of accordion sounds - truly elegant but chilling. "Needlessly" a sad yet hopeful love song, will inevitably stick in your head, with it's simple vocal/acoustic guitar arrangement. "Candle Opera", the penultimate number, where gentle drums rolls and church bells provide an irresistible intensity and epic like quality. "Seven Black Crows", has been described as a beautiful song to a dying loved one and a person's soul journeys to unfathomed places beyond this world. It's a moving piece with its passion and eloquent grace. In between, the LP features 12 beautifully crafted songs. The title track closes the LP with its counting off of One Two Three Four

This is a truly talented woman!.......2006-04-26
I accidentally came across this CD while reading a review of Linda Draper, I sent for it and have played it about fifty times. She has an amazing voice, is a great writer, and the whole delivery of the music is wonderful. I think this is a multigenerational CD, and a great collection of songs. You should get this CD, She is terrific.
Chill Up The Spine Indie Folk Psyche Beauty!.......2006-03-13
It's hard to define that certain something in music that makes it feel a certain way instead of just sounding a certain way. Whatever that essence or spirit is, Linda Draper definitely possesses it- the feelings brought by this cd I can liken to first listening to Vashti Bunyan, Nick Drake, etc- artists who have that abillity to take you in, envlope you in song form. Linda's songs could loosely be filed under the psyche/folk category that is pretty popular lately, but there is something here that transcends the trends of the moment. To those that live in a city and have a heart that beats in a less frantic way, this will resonate- the lyrics both speak to the defenses of living in such an area and the yearning for something that illuminates all the chaos (at least they do for me). In any case, I just felt this cd deserved some praise on Amazon- it really is something special.
