I just bought this cd about 3 weeks ago, learning from a buddy of mine how awesome they are, and plus they are from my home town of Savannah Georgia, so I knew I had to give it a try. When I got the cd I listened to it all the way, and couldn't stop listening to it for like a week, then I bought tickets to see them on Halloween, and recently just bought their other cd(which is also fab). I am totally excited about seeing them on Halloween I've heard that they are so much more intense live.

This was the best thing to come out of Georgia in 2003. If you want to get a free taste of what they sound like in a live setting download a free show from the internet archive. Kind of reminds me of early Phish crossed with Micky era Widespread Panic.

I am in shock at the one listener, R. Pinto, that completely dissed this musical masterpiece. I guess there's always one....
Walking in Place is one of the best songs I've ever heard, so powerful, so beautiful. This is one of the most talented bands I know of, and having been blessed to see them live on multiple occasions, I was blown away at their live performances. All of them. And I am going to go back and see them every chance I get. This is one group of talented boys, and I recommend them to anyone who has taste enough to appreciate some good music.

Hence the title, getting blunted to this cd is truly an experience esp. if you dont have all the dopeass underground reggae/dub that madlib got his hands on..all tracks mix together seemlessly and you never have to skip a track. blaze the trees and bump this cd.

This one was highly anticipated. Almost lived up to expectations. Lots of wild sound effects distorts an otherwise amazing collage of singles. Eventually, when you can totally sink into the hodgepodge -- like when you're driving -- the assortment of bells and whistles coheres into something really unique and pretty special. Terrific headphone experience, but not the first choice for social listening.

Exelent selection of some of the best reggae/dub classic. The record includ 45 songs mixed by the Mad Kid.
We allready knew is trumendous ears for rap, soul, jazz and and funk, well check out this album, this guy must have the most incredeble record collection ever.

People who cream their pants over very average music, :cough: A.Martin :cough:, make it hard for bands who really deserve the credit to get any. Not to say I don't like So they say's full length, no, I actually do. But come on, 5 star reviews should be reserved for that top 1 or 2% who think outside the box and truly deliver a stellar record. Go listen to "don't get lost in a movement" by thefullydown, and then tell me So They Say is of the same 5 star class. Hardly...

When their self titled was released in June 2005 on Fearless Records, I'll be the first to admit I didn't give it a chance. Alas, the disc got buried deeper and deeper my box of promotional CD's and eventually I forgot about them.

Flash forward 6 months to early 2006, when my bud Adam at Fearless Records mentions the new album was going to be produced by Matt Squire (who produced one of my favorite albums of 2005, The Receiving End Of Sirens' "Between The Heart And The Synapse"). My ears are perking up more and more; and when I finally received my copy of "Antidote For Irony" in the mail, I resented myself for ignoring this band in the first place.

With the impending loss of a loved one very close to the members of So They Say, "Antidote For Irony" was written to expose their inner-display. These days, words like "heartfelt" and "sincere" are tossed around like dust in the wind, but in this case it means so much more. Lyrics on this record like "I'll know all I need to know to bury you" ("In Essence, We Are Falling") or "I don't think you're ready to go" ("The Burden") only encapsulate some of the feelings the band feels to put on stage here.

And how's the music? Sure, it's nothing truly unheard of before: poppy, hooky choruses and blasting guitars powerfully soar, sounding sensational thanks to another splendid production effort by Squire. But something about this disc is beyond infectious: maybe it's the sheer honesty, but despite the bitter taste the lyrics leave in your mouth, this album won't do anything but make you feel good. How's that for ironic?

If you're into aggressive, catchy, and super-infectious pop-punk with a slew of energy, So They Say's debut LP just might do it for you. As a newfound fan of the band, I can say that maybe it's the fact I wasn't expecting much that made this such an exciting, wonderful experience.

I orginally bought their first CD due to the fact that they had a solid fanbase and i've heard good things of them. I love their EP and this debut album is no different. They are just a great band, i mean they can sing yet they still have some heavy parts. I'd suggest picking up the EP first and then picking this album up. They are diffently a band to keep an eye on.

I was looking for a Jazz version of Miles Davis' song "So What" that utilized vocals - I didn't find it. I 'stumbled' onto Ronny Jordan's version - and dug it! Clean, crisp, well-structed and performed. Just as you start grooving, the CD is finished. The fastest 46+ minutes on disc! Good job, Ronny and company! (where have I been for the 14 years that this disc has been out? Mars, I guess! How I missed this man and his talent is beyond me!!!) Five stars!

I have been listening to this album ever since it came out,, and it still holds. As a jazzguitarist I remember that I was very curious when I first heard about Ronny Jordan in the beginng of the 90:s. His way of mixing the guitarstyle of all my heroes..like Wes Montgomery,Grant Green George Benson and Kenny Burrell did intrigue me,this combined with hip and heavy dance beats ..Jordans clean sound where he is not afraid of using space(little bit the same way Miles Davis did) and his fantastic sense for rythm and groove makes his music very appealing.,,and he plays all the right notes all the time..and of course I like his rework of Miles "So What".
Jordan kept on doing good albums during the years...although this the first one is the most genuine ,,so far in my opinion.
The ones that dig Ronny Jordan might also want to check some of todays more funkier jazzguitarists..like Jimmy Ponder or Peter Bernstein or Greg Skaff

I have been a life-long fan of Hip-hop(but not nowdays, more christian), and this influences flows through this CD. Favourites cuts After hours, So what, and Summer smile. This CD was the beginning of my love for the Jazz Guitar. As far as I know, Ronny was one of the only few people to use hip-hop beats within his music. Why only two stars? Well the raps are very basic and spoil said tracks that they feature on. Besides I was never a big fan of Jazz Rap.

This peers to be the best that Ronny put out before jazz-rap started. For those that were into Tribe, Common, The Roots, Guru, Digable Planets, OutKast, or any other sorts of music should have this. I think it could be on the list of jazz and music history.

Songs that might turn u down into the groove: After Hours, Cool and Funky, and So What.

As to me I love smooth jazz and jazz is 'gon stay where it's at and it's never perishing. I recommend this who like rap, hip-hip or both. Maybe give it a shot in between. Whether u like it or not.

Two reasons why i did not give this a perfect rate: CD is very short. And because they (both Apathy and Celph Titled) do not rap together on most of the tracks. At times, felt more like a Celph Titled cd- which isn't bad cause I am a big fan. The reason why I almost gave this album 5 stars is the J-ZONE produced track "S.M.D." Jesus, he kills that track with sick samples. and then Celph Titled rips it apart. I wish this track was on the Celph Titled and J-Zone CD Hog Barbarians. Anyways, I like the effort but next time, have both emcees on all tracks.

3 out of 5 stars Something Is Missing, But I Don't Know What... {3 ½ Stars}.......2007-07-08

I don't know what took me so long to check this album out, but I'm glad I did. Better late than never, right? Anyway, the first thing to jump out at me was how tight the production is. There are a few snoozer beats (maybe two, max) but the combination of beats and rhymes leaves little to be desired. Though I don't really feel Celph, he handles a lot of the tracks well. He turns in a good performance on "Bad Attitudes" which also features a good turn from One Two. There are plenty of good joints to be found, but nothing necessarily jumps out at me enough to warrant a mention. I'd say 5 or 6 out of 11 tracks are dope.

As far as flaws go, there really aren't many to list. Like I may have already mentioned, I've never been that big a fan of Celph Titled. He has some funny lines, but overall I wasn't all that interested in tracks like "Sound Of The Clap" or "Fix Your Face" (despite Apathy totally ripping the mic on the latter of the two). "S.M.D." struck me as mad corny on the parts of both rappers though and the production wasn't exactly an attention grabber either. The same could be said about "Donkey A**" because of how gimmicky it comes off due to its godawful hook and subpar verses. With all that being said, if you love Celph, chances are good that you'll love this album.

No Place Like Chrome is a good release from two of the most underrated cats out right now. Though I wouldn't recommend paying such a steep price for a mere 11 tracks, I would definitely recommend buying it if the price were reduced. If you have iTunes or some other form of digital music subscription, get it there as it will probably be cheaper. After picking up Eastern Philosophy last year, I told myself that I would purchase all things associated with Apathy. Though this release isn't as good, it's still solid. The production is mostly good, the rhymes get passing grades and this is sure to please the fans of the Demigodz/AOTP crew. Overall it would be a decent addition to the music library. I recommend newcomers buy this used though.

Apathy and Celph tear these tracks up, and all the guest appearances do their jobs well too. Basically, the Demigodz leading pair maintain their positions of power with this c.d. and stay in command of the underground. So long as you can get past the price of this import... cop it and enjoy.

I LOVE THIS CD! I bought it after hearing "Wonders Never Cease" in a commercial. There is not one single thing I don't like about this CD. It's at once a little ethnic, a little poppy, and a lot retro. A beautiful mix, topped with perfect lyrics and a FANTASTIC singer. I absolutely cannot get enough of Daisy Martey's voice! The only downside is that I have to wait for another Morcheeba w/Daisy Martey release--I might not make it!

Yes, this CD sounds a good deal different from earlier Morcheeba releases, but it is a fun CD. The brothers have changed things around a bit to suit the new singer and she has a wonderful voice, whether or not it's as good as Skye's is up for debate (probably not) but she does a great job on several tracks and if the name on this CD were anything other than Morcheeba the critics would probably being falling in love with it.

This album is so different, but good actually. It has been hard for me to get used to that big change. The new singer has a strong personality, a certain presence. Even musically, it's more dynamic than it used to. I personally regret that the sensuality of Skye is gone, her voice made the soul of the band. but Daisy has incredibly mutated the band, and she has given a new breath, but I think it would have been more honest to change the name of the band. It's a good album, but it's not a Morcheeba.

This is the last one i purchase of Morcheeba, without listening to it first. Agreeing with some of previous reviewers, the sound is not BIG CALM, nor is it WHO CAN YOU TRUST?. It's different. I purchased the CD, without listening to it first. This was after hearing the other two mentioned above. I was surprised, not in a good way and disappointed that the heart and soul sound of Skye was missing. I gave the CD away. Some may like the new singer. I'll pass.

I don't mind that Skye went solo as long as Morcheeba still sounded good. We got two fine cds out of this deal. Skye's cd continues her own musical adventure while Morcheeba go for a retro feel with Daisy sounding a lot like Grace Slick; one of the best singers ever! Lighten up was the first song to hit me then Everybody Loves A Loser was next and the whole cd grows on you as a whole. Both cds are still better than most of what's out there now!

This album is really phenomenal! Madlib never ceases to amaze me, and everyone else I am sure, with his terrific humour, his weird opening tracks, his moniker as Quasimoto, and his fascination with his partner in rhyme, Wildchild. All of the tracks are amazing, and nothing short of flawless.
I love the fact that whenever a brilliant Madlib/Lootpack album comes out, that Peanut Butter Wolf is always right behind or beside the helm.

THIS IS THE WARM UP TO THE QUASIMOTO ALBUM FROM MADLIB, THIS IS A SICK CD THE BEST TRACK IS ANSWERS FEAT. QUASIMOTO. THE BEATS ARE CRAZY AND WILDCHILDS LYRICS ARE THE BEST THING I HEARD IN A WHILE. ALSO CHECK OUT THE JAYLIB CD AS WELL

I know that in this age when hip-hop and progressive seem oxymorons lootpack comes through with a cd that defies the formula that most "mainstream" hip-hop and rap "artist" seem to be stuck in for the last decade. Wildchild and Madlib take the hip-hop world and their fans to task with tunes like;Questions, B-Boy theme, the Anthem, Friendz vs. Endz. If I seem perphaps somewhat moralistic it is only because of the long list of bad characters in the music world who produce whatever the record company says they need.
This Stones Throw label and the people associated with it seem out to put a stop to the "wackness", and this cd along with others from the same label are well on their way to doing that. Hail PB Wolf, long live the Stones Throw era.

Lootpack is and alwayz will be one of the best hip hop crews out there. Madlib and Wildchild layed down some decent lyrics and roams whipped up some nice cuts. Some tight tracks include : weeded, wheniamondamic, and likwit fusion. There were some dope appearences by dilated and tha liks too. This is a must-get......props to the crew

Yo... Da Antidote is, will be, and has been a classic since the day Lootpack drop it. I'm from the 805 area so it's tight ta have some representation out here. Madlib created like tha mastermind he is and Wildchild lays down lyrics like they was cheap wall paper. Invest in this cause it's always gonna be around, 805.....

This is definitely one of the best DnB albums I own. The track selection is amazing; the CD starts out with what initially sounds like a mellow jungle sound and a less then a minute into the track throws you face first into the bassiest, darkest sound. The second track is even more energetic and grimy sounding than the first, and it only builds from there, occasionally letting up a bit only to throw more sick bass at you. Tracks like Klute's "Glue Sniffer" and Gridlok's "Heatwave" will make you dance in the ways you have never thought possible and the last few tracks lead you out very nicely. Dara's mixing is unquestionably amazing, though maybe not as perfect as Andy C's (god of mixing) but the track selection is AMAZING (I'm repeating myself). IF YOU LIKE HARD HITTING DNB GET THIS CD

I think the best way to start this review is to decribe who's going to be into this. As you may know, there's two groups of DN'B fans. You have the people who dig the ponderous, jazz-infused, almost trancebreak DNB, and you have the hardcire junglists, who dig the in-your-face synth riffs and bombastic breakbeats. I'd like to put myself in the hardcore junglist section, as I like the hard/fast, not the thoughtful/trance.

This CD is for all DNB fans. It's not the hardest of the hardcore, but it's all none of that NewForms jazzybreak girly DNB. It's a mix of both DNB styles, and OH BOY what a mix it is...

DJ Dara knows his stuff, and he's picked 16 of the DNB militia's finest. If you're into the scene, you'll know names like Klute and Kathy Brown. These people have taken mere machines and made them sing the melodies of the gods -and then layered some rippin' breaks over that. It's rare to see tracks of this quality - this is some KILLER stuff. It pumps your subwoofer, and your cranium, at the same time. THERE IS NOT ONE BAD TRACK ON THIS ENTIRE CD. PERIOD.

The same quality of the tracks has gone into the mixing - all of the tracks can be played as individual songs, but it really comes together when you listen to the whole CD. The transitioning is absolutely FLAWLESS and it really demonstrates how well the tracks work together. You can put your own rave on using this CD; it's as close to a live set as you could hope for.

Whether you're one of the hardcore fans, or one of the jazzybreak fans, you're going to love this CD. I don't put my seal of approval on just any music. This is a classic.

i recommend putting this in while you drive... bounce your head to it! and play it LOUD!...see what kind of looks you get! This cd is awesome....enough said...if you can make it from gonzo to disko bizkit...you're better than i... the beat is unstoppable!

Earlier in the '90s, if the beats were funky, the scratching ferocious, and the rapping mediocre (or nonexistent) you could bet pound notes to crumpets you were listening to U.K. hip-hop. While U.S. hip-hop had gotten s-l-o-w and low (the better to accommodate its increasingly acrobatic wordplay), in Britain rock-the-house values still persisted. So now that fresh beats and turntablism have made a comeback stateside, old-skool Brit revivalists like the Wiseguys (a.k.a. Touche, a.k.a. Theo Keating) suddenly sound of the moment. On The Antidote, his sophomore effort, this wiseguy comes correct with an album that splits the difference between Fatboy Slim and Black Eyed Peas. The first single and second track, "Ooh La La," which accompanied a popular Budweiser commercial in Britain, boasts a chunky beat and a simple, mindless hook, setting the pattern that the rest of the album follows. It's a surefire formula, and Touche does it better than most--though a bit more of the fervid scratching that animates the leadoff track, "Re-introduction," might have made this Antidote even more soothing. --Jeff Salamon

the wiseguys had a good thing going with 'ooh-la-la' and 'start the commotion'. and some of the tracks that comprise this disc are not bad, especially the one that samples rachmaninoff.

but as a whole, it's not fulfilling. it's like the producers thought they should shove everything this group did on to one disc because they would never sell another. and if your label doesn't have faith in you, what can you expect from your fans?

I have listened to this album about four or five times now, and there are only two songs out of fifteen(!) that I have any memory of whatsoever - "Ooh La La" (which I had heard before) and "Start the Commotion." Other than that, the whole album passes by without leaving any lasting impression on me. Granted, it's certainly enjoyable big beat and good to have on in the background, but there just isn't enough memorable music on this album to warrant further listening.

I bought this CD for "start the commotion" and it rocks but the other 14 tracks were a disappointment. Start the commotion seems out of place with the rest, hip hop or whatever that is called. I say trash but you decide. Please listen before you buy. I did buy this for the one tune mentioned, so I do not feel that I got gypted. Start the commotion delivers 5 full minutes of driving/listening pleasure.

Because it's probably not your thing. Apparently, people are buying this album because they liked the song "Ooh La La" or "Start The Commotion" featured in some commercials. Well, that's certainly an "ineffective" way to market an album like this. And it certainly isn't building him a strong fan base for the future. It's English hip-hop of sorts. Touche's style is similar to that of Fatboy Slim, and certainly isn't mainstream radio-play material (at least in America). Some people get so caught up in their "expectations" of what the album should be, that it subsequently clouds the their view of the album (or in this case, they simply bought it by mistake). So with that said, I will continue on with my review as if you're into this kind of music.

Hip-hop in England is very different than it is in America. Traits of darkness, paranoia, money, style and mic presence are taken to the extreme in America's rap music. Well, this album proves, along with other hip-hop albums from the UK, that their style is less uptight and definitely more humorous by our standards. Their style of hip-hop is definitely less serious than what Run-D.M.C. invented back in 1984. It's not a bad thing, it's actually a breath of fresh air. One reason it isn't so serious, is because the album is equally rooted in the British dance scene. Touche actually brings more of a Afrika Bambaataa vibe to the table. My favorite track has got to be "Experience," which track is immaculate. Although there may be a little filler throughout it's 74 minutes in length, there is a lot of exceptional work showcased by Touche (and at a hell of a great price too, 95¢ used, what's up with that!).

This album was released over 7 years ago, and still sounds very fresh. If you're interested in more work by (DJ) Touche, check out his 2002 solo release "Ultraviolet: Journeys By DJ", which is more of a progressive house album/mix. So depending on your tastes, you may like that one too.

It's quite fascinating the power a few well-placed commercials can have on the recognition of a specific musical artists. Techno guru Moby inserted many of the songs off his blockbuster album, "Play", into numerous commercials and, as a result, generated huge buzz, followed by rapid sales. See that model work for Moby, other artists have attempted to do the same. The one conduit that seems to be a forum for these artists is the Mitsubishi car company. At the current time, there may be as many as four or five songs on the airwaves that found their initial introduction to audiences facilitated by Mitsubishi. Dirty Vegas' "Days Go By" is probably the best of the bunch, but the first group to make its splash in these commercials was an eclectic rock/big band group called The Wiseguys. There biggest hit, "Start the Commotion" got its start in a Mitsubishi ad (they also foisted "Ooh La La" upon audiences in a few Sony commercials). "Start the Commotion" is a very catchy tune. It reminds one of the song "Canteloop" done by Us3 about a decade earlier. It mixes rap lyrics with a mixture of jazz, big band, and rock. As catchy as it is, though, it is also way way waaaaaay too long. The sections of the song move by rapidly and, after about two and a half minutes, you're ready for the song to end only to find that it goes one for another three minutes and that remaining three minutes is nothing but rehashes of the bridge and chorus. It's unfortunate that this song creates that emotion, because for the entire album "The Antidote", it's really the only notable song there. "Ooh La La" is ok, but it is still essentially nondescript. Most of the other tracks barely even register when you listen. The quality of the first two and half minutes of "Start the Commotion" is enough to bestow a 2-star rating on this album, but no where near enough to recommend it. As one of the pricier single albums on the market, the listener will be sorely disappointed by buying this album just for that one song and hoping for other tracks to be as good.

This disc might either make alot of new fans or lose the old ones of Morcheeba with it's departure sound. I liked their old stuff and was pleasantly surprised with this more accoustic pop oriented disc; it is totaly different from their "Big Calm"-Skye Edwards-era but still features moog, turntables and drum programming. Although the electronica edge is tossed for psychedelic guitar, the arrangements still are smart with a different edge; it sounds like Austin Powers meets Jimi Hendrix theme music much of the time. The soothing pop vocals of Daisy Martey recalls a young Shirley Bassey-Grace Slick hybrid of delivery that is college radio friendly. The lyrics are pretty cool and can be understood; something often lacking in modern pop. Exceptional songs worth checking out include "Like a Military Coup"(I'm in my element, With a panoramic view, There's nothing like a military coup)that features soft accoustic guitar and sassy vocals that fades into psychedelia, "Ten Men" which begins with and has picolo filtering throughout the catchy lyrics(Vacations in Europe, Sesational scents,We made the most of your inheritance)and Jefferson Airplanesque guitars and mood,the gentle pop sway of "Daylight Robbery"(Hold up, That's daylight robbery, Hold up, You're bleeding us dry, Hold up you're making a mockery, Hold up Disorganized crime) that cascades into programming bliss and the catchy "God Bless and Goodnight"(Caught in a struggle, Goodness I've tried, You're such a puzzle I guess, God bless and Goodbye). Gone are the trip-hop elements in exchange for a more mainstream sound that results in a pleasant but not overpowering disc that requires several listens to get used to. Not bad but not great; it is mostly an interesting departure that is worthwhile.

After the loss of Skye, Morcheeba's remaining members knew they had to take a step back and look at themselves. The inclusion of a new guitarist and singer, along with different directions in sound--a medieval-sounding flute on Ten Men, for example--prove they still know how to make good, non-redundant music.

The thing that strikes one most about The Antidote is Daisy; not just her as a singer, but the way the rest of the group has refitted their sound for her. She's got an edge that Skye didn't show in her singing; she's more dramatic, and has allowed the sound of the music to shift more to that area as well.

I had not heard Morcheeba prior to listening to The Antidote. Once I listened to this album I purchased all of their CDs and greatly enjoy each one. However, The Antidote (a departure from their other albums) is my favorite. Daisy Marty's powerful voice hooked me the first time I spun the CD. Man, can she really pack a whallop. The instrumental work by the rest of the band is also marvelous, entrancing and interesting. The blend of Marty's voice and Morcheeba's music has produced a fantastic album and I am sure that the group will attract more listeners quickly. I look forward to their next album.

In my opinion, replacing Skye Edwards with Daisy Martey has substantially changed the flavor of Morcheeba, and decidedly not for the better. Quite honestly, I'm surprised at the number of favorable reviews here. To me, this album sounds like Morcheeba retread (nothing new here musically), and without interesting vocals. In fact, I found some of the songs downright embarrassingly poor and couldn't listen to them all the way through. If this is what the new Morcheeba sounds like, I won't be buying any more of their albums.

I'm among those who reacted with shock upon learning that Skye Edwards had been replaced in Morcheeba. But after reading that she is readying a solo album (I'll be first in line to buy it), I decided to calm down and give a listen to The Antidote. Wow. Daisy Martey's voice, and her delivery, fit perfectly with the newly energized drive of the songs on this album. But no sooner was I won over by the "new" Morcheeba than I discovered that Daisy, too, has now left the band. Sad -- but then, this move creates an opening for another totally new sound on the next Morcheeba album. And, if Daisy Martey does a solo project of her own, plenty of The Antidote's fans will be in line to buy it. Call me Pollyanna.....
