sublime, so ignore the slime.......2005-06-04
some people are so sick. i can't believe people are weighing in on her looks. this is about music people! charles and bloedow are amazing composers. the music is divine and pure and it is moody and it even rocks at times. the lyrics are moving, and these people who are saying this is parody are parodies themselves. they are clueless, as they can only see jennifer as a sex object. it's a pity because they are missing the boat. can't women be powerful and sexy and smart without threatening the pathetic creepy boys of this world? beautiful vocals too, lest we forget she's an AMAZING singer! And frankly, I find that the poduction values have improved over the years, less gloss, and more real muscle.
Field of Erotic Dreams!.......2005-05-23
My friend below me is correct in his assessment that Jennifer Charles is slowly becoming a caricature, but that does not keep this album from being very enjoyable. With the loss of a major label, it does seem as if Ms. Charles' looks have began to suffer along with the decreased production values and increased hard-living...until you get a look at the picture in the sleeve of "Dreams that Breathe Your Name" of Ms. Charles in a bra, wearing a very seductive look on her face! That, my friends, is the point of an Elysian Fields Album. Close your eyes, let your imagination wander and embrace the ethereal, sublime sounds of experimental jazz, while imagining love making with the girl you wish you could have, but who is painfully out of your reach.
She Becomes A Parody ... of Herself.......2005-04-29
As an ardent fan of the first two albums, and I haven't bought this one yet, only listened to samples, but I laughed at some of these samples (I know I know, they're a smittence of the full track, but you get an idea, eh?).
Why? Because Jennifer Charles is starting to sound like a cartoon parody of herself. Or in other words, oh so predictable ....
But maybe I'm just jaded. For sure I am. Still, I think that the price is right here and I'm already behind the eight-ball on this one, so I'm buying it.
Ear candy...if that candy is chewable morphine.......2004-09-16
Remember listening to Mazzy Star and imagining the person of your dreams slowly spinning in the an empty ballroom with only the shine of mirrorball outlining their movements? No. Huh, well then listen to Elysian Fields and you'll get an idea of what I mean.
"Dreams That Breathe Your Name" is an album that blends blurry eyed lyrics with plodding shoegazer-jazz. Think PJ Harvey at her most quiet and intense, the dreaminess of Portishead, and the elegance of Mazzy Star. So, enough with the allusions.
Jennifer Charles has a velvet tongue that doesn't mind licking every inch of you. 'Sultry' is inadequate descriptor. Oren Bloedow is able to orchestrate a sound that feels like a blue cloud of cigarette smoke that reeks of sex, achieved and denied.
The gems here are 'Timing is Everything,' 'Live for the Touch,' and 'Shrinking Heads in the Sunset.' But you really don't lose here.

ADDICTED!!!!!.......2006-11-04
I saw Mr. North play with Eoin Harrington April 1, 2006 at Oysterfest in SF, CA. I had the pleasure of meeting Colin, the lead singer, bought the CD Lifesize, and it's been in my car cd player for 7 months now. I can't stop listening to it. Probably the best CD I've ever bought or heard. I think my longest break I didn't listen to it was 2 weeks.
How come it took so long to hear about these guys?!!.......2006-04-19
Just saw them in NYC. Really AWESOME band live. I hope something big happens for them. I'm sure it would if ppl heard more about them. I'm having trouble putting the CD away and listening to something else right now. Kinda addictive. There are a couple places on the net you can hear full tracks, but I strongly recommend getting the full CD. Also, I suggest looking up LifeSize+3 on iTunes (can I say that on here?) If you live in NYC you're in luck during May!
Ha...I sound like a damn tinibopper.
These guys rock........2005-12-22
This is one the best albums ever produced. I was turned on to Mr North through a Bryan Adams concert and fell instantly in love with the music and the group. I bought the cd that night and they signed it after their performance. I went out of my way to see them live again with Journey and then again at a local bar. One of the few bands who don't disappoint live. The album is fresh and the lyrics provacative. The band is friendly and fun to watch and hear perform. I have and will continue to recommend this album to any one who truly loves music. Highly recommended!
" Lifesize"....Absolutely Brilliant!.......2005-05-03
What an amazing debut album! These irish guys formed a band in Dublin in the late 1990's & are now based in Quenns N.Y. I was given this album as a present from a friend who lives there & on the first listen I was hooked. The lead singer Colin Smith hits the high notes like Jeff Buckley, which says a lot for his amazing talent. Adrian Mordaunt on drums is outstanding & has a similar style to Matt Cameron(ex Soundgarden & Pearl Jam). Talented brothers Emmet & Oisin O Malley play bass, guitar, keyboards and vocals. Together these guys really rock and their album Lifesize is in my car cd player for over four months and i'm still listening to it. Track four "wastin'" is still my favourite. I cannot recommend it enough. Just go & buy it, you will NOT be dissappointed. Check their site mrnorthmusic.com. I can't wait for the new album. Lifesize, 12 moving tunes of epic proportions.
Mr. North is refreshing and full of talent.......2005-02-02
Mr. North was the opening act for Brian Adams in Boston this past summer. I wasn't thrilled about sitting through an unknown opening act but changed my mind from the moment I heard the guitarist and drummer start it up! The music was melodic, the lyrics are different - worth listening to. All band members were obviously "ON" this night. Most impressive was the lead singer. He reminded me a bit of combined Robert Plant, Billy Squire, with a touch of his own brand of uniqueness. I totally enjoy this CD, played at least a couple time a week, and have never tired of it. I particularly like the "hidden song" on the last track.

One of the very best ...........2005-04-18
Aside from Rooster's self-titled debut cd, this cd is the only other in my collection that I actually like every song on the cd. From the slowburning opening track Let Me In, you know you are in for something special with these guys yet the following 3 songs, Speak No Evil, Start from A and Wasting would not appear out of place on any hard rock cd on the planet. The Eye and My Love are perfect "middle of cd slow down to catch your breath" songs before things get seriously left of centre with the mesmeric "The Bearded". The title track Lifesize merges perfectly with Silver Mouth (you have to hear the opening guitar chords to this song !). Finishing up, Give Me Life should have Brian May et al knocking on Colin Smith's door and asking him to front Queen's summer tour while Bring It On (being the band's best known song in this reviewer's eyes) is a belter to finish the cd off ....... save for the now customary "hidden track" at the end "King Solomon" which, for the record, a colleague thinks is the bands best song. Aside from Bring it On, I tend to agree with him. Roll on CD number 2 .....
If they were only promoted..........2004-10-31
One of the best Pure rock albums of 2004. From the Irish-based four piece comes the album "Lifesize" filled with syntalating power ballads, and hard, in-your-face rockers. The first track "Let me In" is reminiscent of the slower songs on the album and is a positive way to begin the album. The next track is the first and only single "Speak No Evil" and is arguably the best song on the CD. Beginning with lyrics that state "Freedom of choice to use your voice" it's a wonder that have not heard it on MTV yet. Its loud chorus makes this song truly amazing. The album continues with heavy guitar riffs in tracks "Start From A", "Wastin", and "Silver Mouth" and slows itself down with the beautifully crafted "The bearded" and sheer brilliance of the title track "Lifesize" and "My Love". The perfect ending to this album is "Bring It On" a spooky, yet lovely track.

WOW!.......2005-05-20
Look out World, here comes Marcus Eaton!!! Marcus Eaton is sheer talent -- His music and lyrics are VERY well written, and great to listen to in ANY setting. Many compare Marcus's sound to Dave Matthews, but those who know both artists well also know there is a big difference. I've been listening to Marcus for several years now.. I can't wait until he makes it big!!!
Should be at the Top of the World!.......2004-11-22
I really like this CD. I bought it after seeing them perform when I went to a John Mayer/Counting Crows/Maroon 5 concert at the Gorge in WA, and I got all the members of the band to sign my CD! :) Anyway, I love the style of the music, it's very nice to just chill out to, and the musicians are VERY talented! This CD is definitely worth listening to!
Great Live Band!!!.......2004-06-28
While visiting Seattle, I saw this band open for Train. Everyone in the crowd had the same reaction...they were AMAZING! The one thing I can say is that I bought the cd and it doesn't do them justice. It's good but having seen them live, there's no comparision. The lead singer can play the guitar so fast that it reminds me of the tazmanian devil spinning around in a blur of motion.
Do Not Miss This CD!.......2004-01-09
My dad saw Marcus Eaton open for Victor Wooten, and bought the CD that same night. I soon appropriated it from him, and they are now my favorite band. They are downright amazing live, and this cd is a great representation of their talent. Marcus Eaton is by far the best guitar player I have ever listened to, and he is backed by some of the most innovative and entertaining musicians in the business. I have never grown tired of their music, and their originality is awe-inspiring. Do yourself a favor, buy this CD for you and your friends and family. This band needs exposure, they deserve to hit it big.
Great sounds from this inventive group.......2003-10-24
Saw them opening for Train, the audience was blown away. Bought the cd that night, have shared with many. Buy this, get these guys some air play. They should be heard!!! NOT a COPY BAND!!

BIK Rocks!.......2004-01-28
Anyone who likes Good Charlotte, Linkin Park or stuff a little heavier will absolutely LOVE this cd! It may have only 4 songs but it's 4 really awesome songs with great guitar riffs and vocals. Raw talent is evident on this EP and anyone who doesn't have it, should. Show some support for a truly rockin band from Tampa. I live in Alabama and I drove over 10 hrs the night before a show just to see them in Orlando at Hard Rock Live! I met them and they're really great guys and artists! They write their own music and lyrics, they're doin it their way. Buy it NOW!
BIK.......2003-12-14

Breaking the Synth-Pop Barriers..........2002-06-14
Fans of early eighties synth rock will find much to enjoy on this impressively self-produced record of modern-day electronica from a band that makes gender-bending fun again.
Evoking the moody, ethereal sounds of pop greats like Depeche Mode and Peter Schilling, Exhibition kicks in into high gear on uptempo tracks like the effervescent "When I'm Old," dish out the love on the spirited "Deny the Fact," and get all cerebral on the spacey "Love Matrix." With his dreamy honey-tinged voice, lead singer Sean Niles is the perfect front man for a band so firmly entrenched in sexual ambiguity, while keyboardist/guitarist (and straight drag queen) Andrew Wilson whips up a rich, otherworldly sonic landscape of euphoric dance pop.
Those in and around the Los Angeles area have already discovered this extremely promising band, who have recently been working with Chuck Wilde (of Missing Persons) on a second release; here's hoping that others out there will catch on to their extremely addictive brand of modern-day rock. One listen to "When I'm Old" (nearly as perfect a song as a song can be), and they'll see what all the fuss is about.
The future of music!.......2001-01-12
"When I'm Old" is a smash hit!! These guys are incredible.... Exhibition is the future of music.... Gutsy, dancy, really great pop music, you won't be disappointed!
Take a look at this Exhibition of good music..........2000-10-30
Thought I'd already posted a review of this CD, but obviously not - so here it is. First heard the track "When I'm Old" on ISPR early last year. I was new to the modern synth-pop scene at the time, being more of an Eighties man and not being aware of anything new happening in this music genre. Anyway, this was one of the first albums I bought in trying to see what was going on.
I can't recommend this album highly enough, nearly every song is excellent. The only disapppointment on this album for me is "The Beauty Living Within" which has an annoying organ riff all the way through. That aside, most of the songs are up-tempo electronic songs with some great accompanying vocals by someone called Coco Street. I am a firm believer in female vocals alongside a male vocalist to improve and flesh out songs.
My favourite songs are "When I'm Old", "Deny The Fact", "Love Matrix" and all the rest follow up not far behind.
Classic synth pop, with great influences + great originality.......1999-10-15
First heard this group on the Internet Synth Pop website. This album is an absolute classic collection of songs. I can't help but hear the distant tones of my all time favourite groups when I listen to Uninhibited, namely Depeche Mode, Erasure & Pet Shop Boys, but at the same time there is such an amazing stamp of originality lying within, especially in "Love Matrix", "Ruby Red" & "Tomorrow The Rain". "In The Offing" could almost be a cross over track to connect the two Kraftwerk albums, Computer Love & The Man Machine.
To sum up, if you are a fan of Electronic music, you MUST buy this album, and see what you are missing !! Exhibition deserve to be Synth Heroes !
Execellent thought provoking lyrics........1999-10-02
Fabulous album. Looking forward to hearing new works by this exremely talented group. This is not just another techno band. Their lyrics are thought provoking with very creative & innovative arrangements.

AN ANGRICHIK GOES UNINHIBITED!!!!.......2005-05-18
What can I say? Kama Linden is one of the freshest and most artistic voices in the world of music. One thing about Ms. Linden is that she definitely NOT a label-made product...OH NO. She is an original artists, on her own terms and a diva who has the ability to take over the stage when need be.
Here is a breakdown - TRACK BY TRACK!
1. WAITING - This track starts off you on a journey of what makes her unique. What some artists can only dream about, she doesn't wait for it to happen, she makes it happen.
2. ANOTHER ME - This is the first single on the album and is currently being played all over. Check out the video on her website.
3. UNINHIBITED - The title track is an excellent red dress and high heels kind of song. She is the kind that gets what she wants and knows how to get it. WOOF!
4. DON'T SHUT ME OUT (2004) - I remember this song in it's early stages and this is the best arrangment by far.
5. YOUNG AND PRETTY - This arrangment has a mixed sound between 80s pop/and 2004 techno sound. Does anyone remember the Cover Girls, well she can put them to shame. You go girl!
6. BITTER LEMON - This song speaks for itself. Funky and playful about someone who needs to lighten the hell up.
7. ONE LESS - Have you ever broke up over a relationship? Not her, she encourages it.
8. I CAN'T STAND YOU - Don't think that any guy can get over this broad from the Bronx. No, no, she is not having any of it.
9. CROSSED OVER - One of those comfort songs about loss. No one can capture that feeling like her. The words and melody has that special feel to it.
10. DARE 2 B - This song is basically about a call for individuality to the world. That's her.
11. CHRIS - Can anyone get her off the letter "C"????
12. PROZAC PRINCESS - This is one of those novelty songs that talks about the side effects of all those god-awful medications out on the market. This is truly a comedic listen.
13. I LIKE WHO I AM - Reminds me of the Cher's Believe arrangements but excellent for any of those lucky DJs who would like to remix it for the gay bars.
