This Is Fort Apache
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
A Cambridge, Massachusetts, studio that has hosted a parade of emerging alt rock stars from the eastern seaboard since 1986, Fort Apache has now spun off its own label. The first signing, a tunefully dissonant band called Cold Water Flat, measures up well on this handsomely packaged sampler of the name acts--Dinosaur Jr., The Lemonheads, Come, Juliana Hatfield, Belly and Buffalo Tom included--who recorded chez Apache over the years. A better primer on contemporary American rock would be hard to find. --Jeff Bateman --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Cold walkabout flat murdering.......2007-07-10
BUY THIS! 2 songs make it worth your cash.
There is a theory that every band has (at least) one great song in them. If true, then "Magnetic North Pole" is Cold Water Flat's finest moment. ROCKS more than a speccy nerd in a wooly pully has any right to.
As for the Walkabouts "Murdering Stone"?
Fan-Blimmin-Tastic.
DO NOT buy their original album version - which seems to have been recorded by a lounge-bar acoustic cover-band.
A sampler worth owning.......2005-06-01
One of the smallest of music genres is the "sampler worth buying" category. Most have, at best, a couple good singles. More often than not, one reads the track list, whoops it up at seeing lots of favorite artists, and then quickly finds out that the songs are castaways that didn't find their way onto the artists' albums for a reason. This CD is different. I've owned it for years and still play it on a semi-regular basis. The tracks from Dinosaur, Jr., Sebadoh, Billy Bragg, Radiohead, the Lemonheads, the Walkabouts, and others are all first rate. This compilation is worth much more than the few dollars that you can surely find it for.
good stuff!.......2001-12-20
Love it, despite the pompous art-rock of Throwing Muses, the one blemish on this album. It's like a snapshot of the Boston rock scene in the early 90's, highlighting some of the better songs penned by Mark Sandman of Morphine, Lou Barlow of Sebadoh and the Folk Implosion, Tanya Donnelly, Radiohead, and Cold Water Flat. If you can find a copy, get it.

I have had this CD for 6 years now, and I never get tired of hearing it! This is one of the best compilations of true 'alternative' rock that I have heard in a long time. At least take a listen, I promise you won't be dissapointed!
