Rock Spectacle [Live]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The band's goofy charm and sure-footed melodic sense is in full flower here, and the singalongs on "Brian Wilson" and "If I Had $1000000" are proof of the bond between band and audience. A hidden rap tribute to Ed Robertson's "Uncle Elwyn" is vintage Bill Cosby. --Jeff Bateman --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Being Naked Live Ain't Embarassing.......2006-06-09
Here is a live record containing a band that sounds as good live as they do in the studio. In the Spring of 1996, The Barenaked Ladies performed amazing rock sets at both the Rivera in Chicago and The Oympia in Montreal. With a group trained on the double bass, bass guitar, keyboards, accordian, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, drums, and vocals; it is pretty obvious that the Barenaked Ladies' music is very musical and unique. Their songs are a light rock, very poppish, but ear catching. Some of them are even given a Swing feel and beat. This album is a must have for any fan and for anyone who enjoys listening to music. Enhanced CD features include footage of skits and and live performances.
Stand out tracks include:
"Brian Wilson"
"Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank"
"Jane"
"When I Fall"
"Hello City"
"The Old Apartment"
"Life In A Nutshell"
"If I Had A $1,000,000"
Energized.......2006-04-11
So many live albums can be "flat". You can't go back and redo anything and if the crowd has an off night or isn't into your show, you can't go back to the studio and re-record cheers or fill in the "other" instrument (the audience).
Oh, how different this album is. BNL have so much energy and so much interaction with the crowd, I'll bet no editing was needed. You can hear the crowd singing along with them and they interact with the crowd and play along with them so well. The energy of this album makes you feel like you are at the show (and I've seen them live and this is a great record).
Filled with so much energy you may never go back and listen to the studio versions of these songs again. A great record with great mixing, great energy and great lasting power.
Why aren't they on the NOW CDs?.......2006-02-04
This is an incredible live album. I honestly don't think that I've ever heard anyone do a better job on a live album. Standout songs are Brian Wilson, When I Fall, Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank, and If I Had A Million Dollars. How come these guys are never on the NOW CDs? They're more talented than Nelly or Snoop Dogg or Coldplay!
Genuinely Entertaining.......2006-01-13
I bought this CD years ago and I always seem to come back to it. I agree with one of the previous reviews about "Rock Spectacle" sounding as fresh as it did when I bought it 9 years ago!! It's one of my absolute favourites. I like every song on this CD, although I do like some more than others. This is one of those CDs that when you are driving down the road, you pop it in your cd player and sing along at the top of your lungs!
"Break Your Heart" is such a heart-wrenching song. The emotion that S. Page is able to convey in his voice really makes this song. It makes you want to cry!!
BNL put together great albums, but they are even better live. They are by far the most genuinely entertaining live act I've seen. They always make me laugh!! They don't take life (or themselves) too seriously and it's refreshing to be able to experience that when listening to music these days. I can't help but be in a good mood every time I listen to these guys. They are too funny!! :)
I would absolutely recommend this CD to those who aren't very familiar with BNL. I've done this many times over the years. I have not had one person tell me that they didn't like this CD; and I haven't had one person that I've recommended it to, not become a BNL fan after they heard it!!

Met the band.......2005-03-08
Met these guys while in college in Livingston, AL. They stopped by a truck stop I worked at on midnight shifts and talked to them. Really cool guys and I bought one of their CDs from them. Have loved it ever since. It was just released and the drummer (big bushy, curly hair) signed it for me. Great CD.
Glow in the Dark Soul: A musical work of art.......2003-04-26
I bought this cd shortly after it was released simply because the lead vocalist, Blake, is my 3rd cousin. But, I got it home and enjoyed every note of the album. My favorite tracks being the west coast sounding "Ego Collecting,"West Coast Sole," "You Made Me Hate the Beach Boys," the well orchastrated "Artificial Pain," and of course the melodic "Catalina." The lyrics are well constructed and most songs easy to relate to. The most unique aspect of the album is the beach-70's style with an artistic and original twist. I highly recommend this album, and wish the band would get together and make another one.
Songs that get you addicted!!..........2003-01-25
Artificial Pain, Nowhere Generation, Stargazing, are just a few of the amazing tracks. They have a very unique sound, and are amazing live. Musically speaking its amazing. Lyrically, is deep through a good percent, except for some repressed high school lyrics. A few "artsy" tracks. Kinda seem to be filler. They seem to have roots of the Pixies and Beatles. But then again what band doesn't? This album is amazing and I am sad to here of the demise of the band. BUY THIS ALBUM ITS WORTH EVERY CENT.
Creative and mellow in a way but STARGAZING ROX!.......1999-09-16
This CD is GOOD! IF you like "Presidents" or "Weezer" with a twist of a British rock sound, You'll like this. I basically bought it for "Stargazing" I just love that song!

?????.......2006-10-04
Just listening to these sound clips-I can't believe velvet revolver would release such an album. I can appreciate string quartets...but this is absolutely unbelievable. I wonder what would have made them release this? This is NOT rock at all. And four string instruments are no way going to capture the essence of Contraband. I am just in awe that this type of cd exists. No vocals or guitar or drums...Just a string quartet. This is SO not rock n roll....I HOPE the album that they are releasing soon is not going to end up like this...Talk about the downfall of rock n roll.
can't get enough of it.......2005-08-28
If you're like me, and can't get enough of the original album by Velvet Revolver, I think you'll love this. Each song is well done by the four performers, I actually find myself singing to the songs. I have a 5 disc changer at home, and have the original album in the first position followed by this tribute to Velvet Revolver. My ONLY complaint is that I kinda wished that they had someone play a little percussion for each song (ex: the string quartet tribute to guns n roses). But that's entirely okay. It's easy to make the rythem of each song. In fact, there is an awesome slide performed at the beginning of "Headspace" that I didn't know could be done by a violin. There's a treat at the end of the album, a song called .50 calliber, written by the director of the string quartet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
How AWESOME !!!!!!!.......2005-07-18
This is so freakin' cool! I am a HUGE fan of Velvet Revolver and I play violin in my High School's Ochestra. I would have never thought of a string group even attempting to play Velvet Revolver.
I was searching Velvet Revolver to read some of their reviews for fun, and when I scrolled to the bottom of the screen I saw this CD. I played all of the samples. I was amazed at how well these people played the songs. They sound exactly like Velvet Revolver (except for the obvious fact that they play different instruments)!!!!!!!
I am going to buy this CD as soon as I pay off my debt to my mother for buying Velvet Revolver concert tickets online.
P.S. For anyone that cares, the concert is at Soaring Eagle Casino (Mt. Pleasent,MI) on Aug. 11th.
~YOU SHOULD GO~
WHAT!?.......2005-02-08

Awesome CD.......2003-11-16
I really enjoyed this cd. It's an albumn that I have never retired because it's so good. It's really catchy and it's LBC's early stuff, its great and if you like any Lucky Boys songs, then I'd recomend this CD. I love the song 23(God Only Knows)
BEST CD.......2001-06-12
All I can say is that this CD [rocks].. My friend got me hooked on LBC and this is the only CD I play in my car! LBC ROCKS!
Lucky Boys Confusion 4ever!.......2001-06-06
I would just like to say that that this cd is AWESOME! The great music makes up for the lack of songs. My personal favorite is city lights, but all the songs are great. Their combination of punk, hip hop, reggae, and alternative makes Lucky Boys one of the best bands out there! 420 Geeks!
Great live as well.......2000-08-14
I love the CD and just saw these guys live at Retro on Roscoe and they sounded great and put on a fun show. For an 'alternative' rock band, their sound is more varied and creative than most of what you hear.

Customer Reviews:
This album was awesome!.......2006-07-14
Nineteen88 is essentially a band that pays tribute to the 80s. As little-known as they might be, They sure make some great music [And no, There is no covers on this cd, All original material here]! Although i didn't grow up in the 80s, I grew up listening to a lot of 80's metal and this album reminds me of bands like Van Halen, Dokken, Twisted Sister, and countless other 80s metal bands. The material on here is very good and i have to say that these guys are very underrated. If you miss the sound of 80s metal and are currently dissapointed by the stuff you're hearing today, Have no fear, You definitely won't be dissapointed here! The highlights of the album are ''Hard rock girls'' [Best song on the album], ''Pedal to the metal'', ''Where did the 80's go'', ''Play your guitar'', ''Highway to rock n roll'', and ''The metal pokey'' [A deliciously cheesy metal version of the hokey pokey that's actually just as catchy as it is stupid!]. Like the description above says, The group does sound a lot like AC/DC at times, But i would also say that they also mirror bands like Ratt, Autograph, Quiet Riot, And The Scorpions in terms of sound. I actually bought this cd at a christian book store for next to nothing [$2 and some change to be exact] and i must say, I got a whole lot more outta this cd than what i paid for it! While this is not really a christian band [Despite a few references to god and despite the fact that Guardian's Jamie Rowe helped with the production of this album], There is nothing offensive on this album and it's surely good clean metal fun. I'd surely reccomend this to any metal fan! Hope the review helps somebody. Be blessed now.

Rock Spectacle.......2004-02-13
Rock Spectacle (Rock Spe-TAK) is one of the best samples that BNL has to offer because it's a live CD and Live Shows are their strength. The added features are awesome and fun to watch. Go! Buy! If you're a real fan you will love this CD.
best bnl cd ever.......2001-09-14
if you like bnl, and you should, then you should already own this. run out and buy it right now. don't wait a week for it to be shipped to you. you need this in your c d player right away. wonderful lyrics and music are just the begining. you also get all the guys goofing off and having a great time. run now, go buy this cd!!!!!!
This album is a good reflection as to how good BNL is...........2001-08-08
Barenaked Ladies are my favorite band, and this CD is a great example as to what they are capable of doing live. I've seen them three times in concert, and each time they get better. Rock Spectacle gives you samples of how they perform certian songs, and also how they tell stories and make up songs on the spot. It's a great investment if you're just starting to listen to the band, because it also farmiliarizes you with their more popular songs. I reccomend this CD very highly, as well as all of their other CD's : Gordon, Maybe You Should Drive, Born on a Pirate Ship, Stunt, and Maroon. (And the Shoe Box EP. It's only 4 songs though.....still worth it!)
Ladies at their best -- Live!.......2001-06-14
If you've never seen them live, this is the next best thing and certainly he best way to experience the Ladies... and that's LIVE in CONCERT.
This is my second favorite BNL cd (after Gordon of course, and Maroon comes in a close third).
the best album ever.......2000-03-22
this is the best baranaked ladies i've ever listened to. This album proves that BNL is one of the best pop group on the face of the earth

Product Description
First there was Hendrix. Nirvana followed decades later. Now, in the new millennium, Seattle has spawned its latest rock sensation. OK ... at least they're from Seattle. With the tumultuous force of Mt. Rainier, Stay Tuned has erupted onto this town's storied music scene, igniting venues throughout the Pacific Northwest with virtuoso keytar riffs, nostalgic lyricism and wicked cool hair. When the band appeared on The BJ Shea Experience on KQBZ in Seattle, Ian "Prime Time" Sterling declared, "If you get enough (Jaegermeister) shots down ya ... this would be the best band you've ever heard." Far from your average tribute band, Stay Tuned is one of music's most unique acts, taking television theme songs and "recontextualizing" them into scorching rock 'n' roll anthems. Where some see nothing in television but a vast wasteland, Stay Tuned finds vast inspiration. The self-proclaimed "Ultimate Television Rock Experience" has taken 12 audience favorite songs to create "This is Only a Test." "This is Only a Test" features TV themes familiar to millions including "Happy Days," "Rawhide" and "The Jeffersons" in completely new and original arrangements. Produced by Stay Tuned and Brin Addison (whose previous producing credits include artists Chris Cornell, the Smashing Pumpkins, Smashmouth, and The Indigo Girls), the album brings all the excitement and energy of the band's live stage shows home in a masterfully crafted CD. Comprised of Matt Krahlman (keyboards, lead vocals), Randy Williams (bass) and Fred Donaldson (drums), Stay Tuned formed 3 years ago with the goal of bringing something unique to the local music scene. Inspired in part by Seattle's own Presidents of the United States of America, the band puts on a rockingly entertaining live show where everyone in the audience knows the lyrics and gets into the act. Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well it's Stay Tuned, and you should know it (apologies to fans of the Mary Tyler Moore show).
Customer Reviews:
This CD rocks me like only a hurri-can.......2005-10-14
I've listened to the best from over the years.. The Beatles. Jimi Hendrix. Led Zepplin. David Hasselhoff. But this CD is overflowing - brimming if you will - with epic rock versions of TV Show Themes and is destined to be hailed as one of the most important CD's of the 21st Century. Okay.. I might be overstating things a bit here. But the CD is awesome.
Being a huge fan of sitcoms of the 80's growing up and becoming familiar with the classics on Nick at Nite, this album feeds an unexplainable thirst inside my twisted skull to relive those moments I spent sitting dumbfounded and dumb in front of the "boob tube". TV Theme Songs are sort of a lost art nowadays. Today's TV Shows, with few exceptions, simply don't have the same artistry that the songs of the 60's - 80's had. And I'm glad to see a band, filled with three strapping, talented young men I might add, taking those memorable tunes and bringing them to a whole new generation. Moreover, they really make the material their own.
"Silver Spoons" and "Charles in Charge" really get me going, "Happy Days" cools me down and "The Jeffersons" and "F-Troop" make me want to punch through the top of my car when I'm driving around with "This Is Only A Test" cranked. Being a keyboardist myself, I really dig the vintage keyboard sounds and wicked keytar riffs of Matt Krahlman. If I didn't know better, I would've thought it was a guitar. But it isn't. And rarely do I know anything better or, really, anything at all. Stay Tuned has a mean vintage sound - similar to Deep Purple really - combined with a modern alternative rock edge. Hard to describe but really great, rockin' tuneage.
The CD really captures the live energy of Stay Tuned that I've seen in their shows and I'm really glad I could support them. If you're a fan of television, television themes, keytars or, really, just something different, buy this CD.
