About the Artist
Michael Braudy is an experienced violinist in Western and Indian music, and a versatile improviser, who collaborates with poets and storytellers, theatre, dance and mime. He has performed regularly in concert halls in the United States and India, including concerts in 2000 and 2002 at the Calcutta School of Music and the American Center in Calcutta, at the invitation of the U.S. Consulate. In both, he played Western classical music, Indian ragas and Celtic music in the same concert. In 2004, he performed at the Jaipur International Festival with singer Chloe Goodchild. He has performed Indian and Celtic music at Sufi Books in New York City four times between 2000 and 2005. He is a regular collaborator with storyteller Diane Wolkstein, with whom he has performed in New York and on tour. Michaels discography includes three CDs devoted to Indian ragas for health: Awakening Peace, Vriddhi and Sumanas, and Celtic Afternoon, a live concert. His violin teachers included Raphael Bronstein and Dorothy Delay in Western violin, and in Indian music, Acharya Roop Verma, Pandit V.G. Jog, and Debaprasad and Sulaya Banerjee.

The music on Vriddhi combines the beauty of Indian raga with the health benefits of music composed for restfulness/calming and generation of life energy and revitalization. Using Indian ragas for health, this CD was recorded in Chennai, India by violinist Michael Braudy with noted veena player and medical doctor, P. Bharathi, who has pioneered music for therapy in India. Track 1: Based on Rag Basant Mukhari The music of violin and veena produces a gentle state of restfulness and calm in the heart and body, followed by a dance of life-energy and revitalization. Track 2: Based on Rag Malayamarutham (Carnatic) The veena in this raga enhances the experience of flow and balance in the organism and psyche.
