Technique is New Order's most fully realized dance album. Although other New Order albums have been mighty danceable, this recording contains a masterful use of the acid-house trends storming the club scene in 1989, when this album was released. New Order embraced the technology that was available at the time but never substituted brilliant song structures with prefabricated formats that sequencers, samplers, and other high-tech noisemakers can easily provide. They intelligently used these devices to incorporate elements of a broader genre beyond the "New Order sound," proving that even while experimenting with musical trends and other fleeting diversions, this accomplished group is capable of pulling off a genre-defining album without ever losing sight of their own identity. --Beth Bessmer --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Intelligent Rap.......2007-07-21
Immortal Technique is the best rapper I've heard in years. It's almost like Rage Against the Machine on hip hop beats. He is intelligent, entertaining, humorous, and meaningful at the same time. There isn't a single track on the CD that I don't absolutely love.
SUPPORT INDEPENDENT HIP HOP.
heavy praise is due for this debut!.......2007-05-30
Oh yeah! I got vol. 2 first and had to go back for vol. 1, and I am so glad I did. Everything I.M. does is great. No complaints at all with my purchase. Can't wait for the next one.
Unbelievable.......2007-03-27
This album is absolutely amazing. Amazing ideas and formulations of phrases. This is the ultimate album along with revolutionary volume 2. Never heard anything like it. Please do yourself a favor and buy this album.
you can kill the revolution, but you can't kill the revolutionary.......2007-03-07
this is the best hip hop album out there, if you like hardcore hip hop then, this is for you. While most well-known artists talk about they being kings, having a lot of girls, tons of money, tech talks about real stuff, real issues that are going on in the world. he is probably the smartest underground MC. we probaly wont ever listen to him on the radio, because of his socialist believes. That means only one thing, THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH, tech's anti-imperialist attitude, anti-capitalism, leftsist ideals, almost pro-castro reveals the guy who worries about the dangers of imperialsm. if you are not happy with the way the government treats you, then this cs is for you. buy it, it's totally worth it.
Viva la Revalucion!!.......2006-12-14
This CD will go down in history, go out and get this classic album NOW!!!

Another Fantastic Album!.......2007-07-21
Just as good as the first, if not better. Maybe a bit more mainstream, with more hooks on the tracks--but still far, far away & above anything else you hear on any rap station. You can now get your jam on without feeling as if the music is killing your brain cells.
Do Sweat The Technique.......2007-07-01
I heard about Immortal Technique through some friends and decided to pick up this album. Im pleasantly surprised. Immortal Technique not only has a killer flow but he's quite conscious of things that most zombies would pass off as lunacy. The albums kicks off with a great track Point Of No Return. Then then next track Peruvian Cocaine breaks down like a well acted out play. If you think he only has two or three songs of substance on this album guess again. Harlem Streets, 4th Branch, Internal Bleeding, The Cause Of Death, Leaving The Past are all tight tracks that prove otherwise. Immortal Technique keeps it true to the hip hop side of him with the humorous Obnoxious, which is his f*** all ya'll style track, Industrial Revolution and Crossing The Boundary. I'm still laughing at that track Freedom Of Speech. Even though its a deep cut, the funny part is the sampling of Pinochio and his sarcasm on the song. Immortal Technique teams up with Jean Grae on the deepest song on the album, You Never Know. On this song Immortal Technique tells a very vivid story of a girl he once loved who dies of aids. The album ends with the One Remix with Akir. The only track that is not a song is The Message & The Money. Its basically him telling other up and coming underground MCs that they need to know the ins and outs of the industry. Not bad but its not a song. Bottom Line: Immortal Technique's Revolutionary Vol. 2 is a must have for any fan of political hip hop. His lyrics were as truthful as they were phenomenal, the production was great and the guest appearances were a nice touch. All in all it was a beautifully put together album. 5 stars!
A History Lesson you'll never get from the estabishment.......2007-06-10
Tech isn't rapping, he's teaching.
Setting a foundation for liberating minds.
Things that sound crazy aren't, they're real and you can see for yourself.
Many of the lyrics are the keywords to revealing a truth that has been buried. Don't take his word for it, find out for yourself.
This album is chocked full of thought nutrients.......2007-05-30
Very good on the mic. Lyrical content is just how I like it. Beats are bumpin'. I don't need songs about bling and hoes. I need more mcs like this!
This cat is..........2007-05-05
walkin' around with a full banana clip and he's blasting everything in site. Hip Hop, the government, people that did him wrong, etcetera. This cd is not for the Lite FM listener. Y'all better DUCK! Those that need to.

Ah yes, back when New Order was still good.......2007-07-09
It seems like lately they're little more than a tribute band of themselves, but Technique belongs in any serious New Order fan's collection.
BEST OF NEW ORDER.......2007-05-25
This is the best New Order CD hands down, if you only have money for one New Order CD, BUY THIS ONE!!!
One of the best........2006-06-27
Lots of techno, very upbeat. One of the best for New Order. Almost as good as Brotherhood.
Still the Best.......2006-06-11
Yes, I like the new albums, "Get Ready" and "Waiting For the Siren's Call" quite a bit, but this classic is still my favorite overall. The opener, "Fine Time" sounds a little out of place and is by no means an indicator of things to come, but it's still an oddly catchy piece in its own right. And some of the lyrics are just hilarious (You know I've met a lot of cool chicks, but I've never met one with all her own teeth). What follows, however, is a string of beautiful, well-crafted masterpieces. Some of them have a more accoustic sound (All The Way, Love Less, Dream Attack) while others are more dance-based (Round and Round, Vanishing Point, Mr. Disco), but they're all excellent songs. The former three would have to be my favorites, though. All in all it's a very short album, about 40 minutes, but it contains no filler. I recommend it to any New Order fan who hasn't already purchased it yet (can't imagine there are many of those) or to people who love good music in general.
you got style, you got class, but most of all--you got a lot of technique.......2006-06-03
there's really nothing new anyone can say about new order. to say their influence is far-reaching would be an understantment. most people, and understandably so, cite 'blue monday,' 'bizarre love triangle,' '1963,' and 'true faith,' as new order's defining songs (me, i say 'regret' and 'touched by the hand of god' are their best songs). it is, however, a tough argument to reject. however, most of new order's albums as wholes were a tad incosistent and sprinkled in on top of the undeniable brilliance of so many tracks was filler that weighed some albums down.
it was with their 1989 release, 'technique,' that new order finally nailed an entire album. new order 'purists' will likely disagree, but such disagreements are usually emotionally-charged and short-sided, and probably due in large part to 'technique's' commercial success. 'technique' begins withs one of new order's finest moments, the brilliant 'technique.' almost devoid of a vocal track, it was a fuzzy, acid-induced, dance-floor stomper. it seems an unlikely first single from the album, but a first single it was and. what's great about 'technique' is that the rest of the album is that it vascillates between vintage new order dance-tronica ('round and round,' 'mr. disco,' 'vanishing point') and more acoustical dance numbers ('all the way,' 'run,' 'loveless'). a few people complain that 'all the way' is a 'just like heaven' clone. it may use the exact same chord pattern, but then again so do several hundred other songs. the comparisons end there and 'all the way' stands on it's own as a brilliant track.
'round and round' is another absolutely classic new order single, every bit as good as 'blue monday' and 'true faith.' the band brought the dance beats to the forefront and let them shine. noticeably muted (and almost invisible) is peter hook's trademark bass. the funny thing is that 'round and round' is such a spectacular song that you barely notice its lack of prominence.
'run,' in my opinion, is the album standout. steven morris'running drum-line (listen closely, the drums are brilliant) and gillian gilbert's synthline serve as a nice counterpoint to peter hook's seductive bass and bernard's plaintive guitar melody. but what makes it special to me is gillian's synths the last minute of the song. it's like listening to a sunset. it's beautiful, terrible cliches aside.
what's puzzling about the album is its cover: nowhere do you find the band's name nor the album title. it may be a statement in and of itself: new order *knew* it was a great album, and additing a title or the band name might in some way detract from the album's brilliance. then again, maybe not. knowing new order, it could just have easily been a joke.
new order's induction into the rock 'n roll hall of fame can't be far off, and it will most deserved. new order, without question, is perhaps the defining dance band of the era.

Customer Reviews:
Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04
This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!
Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12
This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!
Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20
Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!
Frank's view.......2006-08-19
This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.
Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Breakbeat Jazz and Spoken Word.......2006-09-09
People have been wondering how to combine estranged cousins Jazz and Hip-Hop. Here you have it: a jazz-influenced guru of rap, looped jazzy breaks from one of the best beat makers of the day.
Ra's voice flows through each piece like an expert jazz trumpeter; his timing is immaculate, his vocabulary superb, and his tone smoother Cannonball Adderly. THIS is how rap is done.
Or how some fine hip-hop is done.
This CD spawned two hip-hop classics: Know the Ledge and Don't Sweat the Technique. Listening to Know the Ledge will keep you honest, because Rakim is no lightweight compared to modern legends like Nas and Eminem. You have to respect the flow.
Other points of interest is Teach the Children, What's Going on, and the the opener, What's on Your Mind.
Perhaps clueless jazzers looking to update their medium shouldn't just take a hip-hop beat and noodle aimlessly and call it art. The compositional possibilities shown on this album, along with the amazing lyricism exhibits what jazz and hip-hop could procreate.
Eric B and Rakim at their Best.......2006-08-15
The choice of an acoustic bass, drums, and saxaphone as the groove and harmony for this record was an excellent choice. The song starts with a jazz harmony executed in a dance/soul rhythm. For "opponents" of this song's lyrics "it might take years." The lightning fast tempo yet subtle and relaxed phrasing Eric B brings to the song when he raps complements his sonic lyrical insights and the hard grooving feel of the record.
P.S. I am not sure, but in the video for this song, I think that might be Wyclef Jean playing the acoustic bass.
The Epitome of the Word CLASSIC.......2006-08-11
The word classic gets thrown around a lot in reviews, especially for Rappers and MCs who by no means come close in comparison! Don't Sweat the Technique is a CLASSIC!!! Masta Killas No Said Date is NOT. If you want REAL HIP HOP MUSIC, what better LP is there to give you the blueprint of it. From Lyrics to Beats this was incredible.

Poison Pen Delivers.......2007-06-25
simply put, Poison Pen truly delivers. He delivered an album that screams BROOKLYN!!!, and I'm talking about the Brooklyn on the early 90's! The production is top notch, as is is the mastering, which is often a step overlooked on indie releases.
Pens delivery is sharp, witty, and at the same time screams" I'll break your face" If you're looking for glorified street stories, drug selling, gun toting, this is not for you. If you are looking for authentic BROOKLYN HIP HOP, u must have this in your collection
If you're not familiar with his music, this is you chance!!! Its well worth the purchase!!

Album Description
First Dance is the debut album of consummate acoustic guitarist, composer- Noel Lorica. Jazz Lovers will groove to the fresh compositions of Noel Lorica. He has mastered the style of Wayward Jazz. Wayward Jazz uses the acoustic guitar to wind its way through classic forms of jazz, from the provocative rhythms of Latin jazz while adding the precision of its Asian counterpart to the heartfelt melodies of Smooth Jazz. If you like Peter White or Marc Antoine it's a good bet you'll like Noel Lorica.
This collection of 11 instrumental works are truly songs without words. The guitar adds a voice filled with texture and emotion. Beginning with his award winning song " Back in Five", which introduces us to Noel Lorica's vibrant, harmonious compositions and superb musicianship. As the album continues, it picks up tempo with body swaying precision in "Samba in A." Then it takes on the familiar "My Favorite Things" with a most astonishing acoustic jazz interpretation. The journey further transports you to the cool Brazilian shores with the sultry melody of "El Viento". Only to be brought back to pure innocence with the solo guitar of title song "First Dance".
At this point, most albums lose passion but "First Dance" only begins to further captivate with skill and soul. Each song in this album has unique character and is worthy of its own accolade. Some diversifying with piano melodies and guitar highlights as in "Forgiveness" & " Scent of Cinnamon". Or "Sarong Bangi" which brings in the swing that standard lovers applaud. While Latin jazz fans will clamor for the strong percussions of "Midnight Dreams" & "Last Dance" Wayward style. Finally ending with the smooth flowing beat of "Warm Winds".
This has got to be one of the best new jazz albums of the year and Noel Lorica's remarkable introduction into the heart of the jazz community. You'll sure to enjoy this little Wayward excursion.
Customer Reviews:
Very sexy,romantic!.......2005-11-10
loved "el viento"very relaxing and sensous...back to 5 was very uplifting...all in all great job!
A Hidden Gem!.......2005-11-02
Lorica is a native of Manila, The Philippines and currently resides in South Florida. He's a Classical trained guitarist whose style resembles well established guitarists such as Peter White, Marc Antoine and Earl Klugh. His debut album has much promise. The recording has a variety of jazz rhythms which ventures from Asian to Flamenco to Brazil. His production is high quality and his original compositions are lovely. I personally enjoyed "Samba in 5" as well as "Midnight Dreams". He also holds his own on American standards such as Rogers & Hammerstein's "My Favorite Things". I see very good things for Lorica happening with this CD release. This is a hidden gem. It's a musical journey you'll enjoy.
An acoustic delight.......2005-07-28
great album...superior guitar playing in the same category as marc antoine, peter white, ken navarro, earl klugh.....seeing Mr.Lorica perform live is very entertaining and impressive...his passion for his instrument is very evident on live performances and is captured well into this cd
wonderful acoustic guitar cd.......2005-07-28
His style is a cross between Marc Antoine and Peter White with a slight more edge to it....I was very impressed with "Back to 5,Midnight dreams, and Last Dance" but the rest of the album is definitely a pure delight to your musical senses. For all those Antoine and White Fans this is an album worth your time...
Exceptional Debut Album.......2005-06-19
After seeing Noel perform live in Orlando and South Florida, I was excited to see his first CD hit the market. I was not disappointed!
The CD is a blend of mostly original samba/latin and smooth jazz . The samba and latin oriented songs were the highlights of the CD. If you like Bossa Nova (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bossa_nova), this CD most definitely has tracks that you will love.
While I liked the CD as a whole, here are the tracks that are my favorites:
Track 1 -- Back in 5
Track 2 -- Samba in A
Track 4 -- El Viento
Track 5 -- First Dance
Track 6 -- Midnight Dreams
Track 8 -- Sarong Bangi
Track 9 -- Last Dance
Track 11 -- Warm Winds
If you are looking to discover a new instrumentalist/song writer I recommend you try this CD.

Album Description
Singing With Style is a versatile program for developing and maintaining good singing technique and vocal stylizing skills. Part One is a song-based vocal warm up of eleven jazz standards and detailed technique instruction. Part Two uses the same songs to teach many aspects of vocal style including ornamentation (licks and riffs), phrasing, pentatonic runs, interpretation, improvisation, scat singing and much more.
Singing With Style includes: Three CDs of almost four hours of material, including eleven jazz standards played by a jazz trio (piano, bass and drums). The Vocal Warm Up Section section includes these songs with example vocals and instructional tracks. The Vocal Style Section includes the songs with stylized example vocals and instructional tracks. Also included are the songs minus the vocals so singers can work "without the training wheels". These tracks without vocals can be used as a jazz vocal warm up or for vocal style practice.
In the Vocal Warm Up Section you'll learn: breathing and posture, how to warm up correctly, how to increase your range, improve your intonation (pitch), build control, build resonance, improve your tone, volume and vocal endurance. Singers diction, the mix register, safe belting, articulation and vibrato development and/or control are also covered.
In the Vocal Style Section you'll learn phrasing, improvising, ornaments (licks and fills), pentatonic runs, scat-singing, interpretation, melodic variation, vocal texture variations, and all the other vocal tricks you've heard singers do but couldn't figure out. Though jazz songs are used to teach these elements, they are essential for all contemporary styles including pop, rock, R&B, country, and blues.
Beginning singers can sing through the warm up section at their own pace to learn how to sing correctly and to develop good vocal technique and strength. Experienced singers can skip the instructional intros and use this section to maintain their vocal technique and strength. Once they've learned the songs, singers can also skip the warm up section and move directly to working with the vocal style section.

This is good stuff.......2005-11-09
Although I refrain from giving it a 5, it should get it just because the pros outweigh the neg.
First off, I will state that I listen to a lot of different music but really like industrial music, more so, I like techno pop and heavy metal so in my eyes, industrial music is the perfect blend.
Second, I will state that I don't care much for death metal, some is ok but it is- for the most part, kind of lame.
Enough of my personal opinions.
This is the first SMG album I have purchased and was solely because of the strong positive reviews listed on this website (10 years after its release!!!). I can honestly say it was a bit hard to muster at first -- the music structure is very good -- complex but yet simple enough that it doesn't build an overwhelming pressure when listening for extended periods but the vocals leave you listening harder than I want. I still don't understand what he is saying for 75% of the vocals, even after listening to it close to 50 times. This is really the only negative, but it isn't really though because the music structure is soooooo strong, that you don't need to understand more than the chorus and a few versus here and there in order to enjoy it. I don't really think it is a dark cd, its very light and arid but is a very strong sound. Not strong in a Pantera way, more strong in a NIN type of way -- very textured and very driving. I can listen to this cd over and over again for days on end and still enjoy it.
I purchased this album at the same time that I purchased Machines of Loving Grace's Concentration; If I were to do it again, I would've bought 2 different SMG cd's and skipped the MLG...
I Wanna Feel Like God - Whatever Gets me Through the Night. .......2005-02-25
When I dive into my CD collection and reflect on the Chris Randall's highlight reel, I always gravitate toward Torture Technique as a good place to start. And I say that knowing that Sins of the Flesh was good enough to stay in the selection, and while acknowledging that it spawned songs that are worthwhile additions to a "best of" anthology starring Sister Machine Gun. Still, Torture Technique marked a point where trends began that made me think "Sister Machine Gun" when I heard certain things in a song, making them stand apart from the fold, and where sonic arrays became refinement once SMG made them their playground. This was the work where Randall introduced a little more of what he wanted to do into the fold, rolling with beats that incorporated other styles of music, and where he started meshing in different flavors that weren't associated with "Industrial." When you listen to songs like Sacrifice and hear the base booming through it, you can see deviation that really wasn't present in most bands at the time, and one that would further refine into jazz and blues and other influences on the artist.
And this is also the place where Randall started to solidify the vocals he would begin to use like a powertool.
When listening to Torture Technique, my first inclanation is to skip to Negative because I really like that song. It has been a track that withstood the years, it standing apart as a clean song both in vocals and in sound, and actually reflecting quality way beyond when the CD was pressed. A lot of earlier Wax Trax albums have problems with quality reflecting age, but songs like Negative prove that some defy the medium of years. "My mind remembers who I was when my conscience died. So negative." That's good stuff.
I normally make a B-line for "Cocaine Jesus" afterwards because I like the contrast in the song and because I like the message of the time. It is a minimal song with a reverb effect kicking the vocals into a blurry liquidity, like static in the audio pond, and I think it highlights the lyrics pretty well. "I'm so f-ed up, I don't know my own name. You'd think I'd learn by now that its always the same. Cocaine Jesus." Yeah.
My motion through the tracks then parks me on Nothing, again contrasting the previous two tracks because it has a little more beat than the second, more guitar than the first, and a rawer form of lyrical grey matter. Its something of an angry song, screaming "I want to go down, but I know that I'm nothing," and I enjoy it. It's kinda like that kid that you had with your former wife and you only have to see on weekends, so you enjoy it whenever you see it. Its fun to revisit.
And "Iron Sun" is possibly my favorite track on the album, because I like the way it builds, the noise it uses when it blurs the vocals as it loops them into a stream that finally comes together, and because I like the whole concept that begins to play out in the album here.
From the interior label (a snippet): "Placing his faith in sister machine gun and brother bomb, (he) is allowed back into the womb, back into the darkness - to return to the ultimate refutation of thinghood -to be non-nothing... To be nothing."
This wants you. You want it back.
Krackhead!!.......2002-05-14
This album rocks! If you have any interest for vintage industrial flavor , then this has got to be one of the first you pick up. This is s.m.g's 2nd album and is arguably the masterpeice album in the bands library. It has a very Bleak, creepy, hellish feeling to it. And with songs like "krackhead" "wired" "brother bomb" and "The Torture Technique" they make you wanna get up and a rob a bank. (Not that im trying to influence anybody lol) but the music is some of the best ive heard of all classic cyber-metal. Not to mention the spooky distorted samples that chris randall placed inbetween each song, check out the psycho sounds at the end of "negative" i bet you never heard anything like that before, (sounds kinda like an evil cyborg getting possessed and going haywire, or some kind of alien being mutilated or something?!) so all in all a must for industrial rock fans! Buy this cd, stay home one night, wait till about midnight or so, chill out in your room , put the album on and be tripped out all night!
Experimental Industrial at it's best!.......1999-03-12
In his second album, Chris Randall (frontman for Sister Machine Gun), shows us what he can do with his many electronic toys. In The Torture Technique he explores new sounds to add to the jazzed up industrial sound he created with the first album, Sins of the Flesh. And despite the other-worldness of the layers of feedback and distortion, Mr. Randall manages to weave them together with grinding guitars, angry vocals and powerful beats to make an uncommon thing: a catchy experimental album. Songs like Wired, Crackhead, Salvation and Sacrafice, which explore the subjects of deprevity, drug addiction and desperation, will be running through your head for weeks. This album is among my all time favorites and I definately recommend it to anyone who has a taste for the industrial side of music.
funky classic WaxTrax-style industrial at it's best.......1999-03-10
produced by the folks at Warzone, this album shares its sound and feel with Die Warzau's "Engine" (an excellent album itself). although this album isn't your typical SMG, it still stands strong as an excellent foray into more experimental and classic industrial styles. TTT features the accesible singles Wired (for which a video was made) and Nothing, in addition to danceable tracks like Krackhead and experimental noise pieces like Heaven. overall, an excellent album and one of my personal favorites.
