EPICS THAT DO NOT DISAPPOINT.......2007-05-14
WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA TO TAKE HOLLYWOOD'S COLLECTION OF HISTORICAL EPIC MOVIES, EXTRACT THE BEST PORTIONS OF THE SCORES AND COMBINE THEM FROM THE DAWN OF MAN TO THE RECENT PAST. I PARTICULARLY ENJOY THE SUITES FROM GLADIATOR, BRAVEHEART AND THE VIKING. THE REPRODUCTION OF THESE SCORES BY THE CITY OF PRAGUE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS IS BRILLIANT, AND THE RECORDING WAS EXCELLENT. I ONLY WISH THERE WERE EIGHT DISCS INSTEAD OF FOUR TO COVER THE VOLUMES OF SCORES THAT COULD NOT BE INCLUDED. LET'S HOPE FOR A VOLUME II.
Interesting selections . . ........2006-12-15
This compiiation album makes an excellent gift for that person wanting to discover great, epic scores. I'm surprised, however, that Vangelis' Alexander is included in this one. Not bad, just surprised.
The reason I give this album 4 out of 5 stars is because of the swashbuckler section. How is it that CutThroat Island - one of the greatest epics in history - was scrubbed out of the list? Pirates of the Caribbean is included on the selection but nothing from Debney's masterpiece?!
Yes, that is a huge compilant. If you haven't discovered CutThroat Island, I suggest you get it then you'll understand my frustration. Still, this album is a great buy and worth looking into!
"Epics featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra ~ 60 years of film scores".......2005-09-07
When I think of the "Golden Age of Hollywood", many composers come to mind...you gave the usher your ticket in the theater and sat down, knowingly you were going to get your moneys worth...when the curtain opened and you heard those first few notes...you sat back, watched and listened as the film score and orchestra worked their magic...now we have the ultimate from Silva Screen Classics "EPICS:THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD ACCORDING TO HOLLYWOOD", featuring a four disc set of the essential film scores of the past 60 years...covering several decades right and up to the present 2005.
There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classics that even the youngsters today recognize...sweeping scores that capture the drama, mystery, adventure, action and romance...one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this...many nominated and winners by the Academy for Best Original Score...
Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come...this collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

Customer Reviews:
Eh, It's Okay.......2007-04-24
For those that purchase soundtrack collages to have a variety of songs and themes, then this is good for you. Unfortunately, these tracks didn't have the signature Erich Kunzel version of the songs as he had on other soundtrack mix CDs. It was more like just that, a mix CD of different soundtracks and scores. However, it was a good buy in the fact that the tracks chosen had excellent sound quality and a sense of harmony.
Better than the First Volume.......2005-08-04
There is a great collection of music to be found here. There are many great renditions. The "2001, a Space Odyssey Fanfare" was outstanding. "Book of Days" from "Far and Away" had a very unique approach. I recommend this one deeply, oh yes I do, by far and away!
An Interesting and Gratifying Volume 2.......2005-06-17
Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops' treatment of film scores on this second tribute to Hollywood are somewhat more pleasing than Volume I. The selections are more intriguing and demonstrate a more positive approach to film scores and their value as true musical art forms. There is quite a diverse representation of music here. The incredibly powerful main title to MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (Bronislaw Kaper) juxtaposed with the bittersweet and romantic love theme to SPARTACUS (Alex North) and the intimately tender love theme to FRIENDLY PERSUASION (Dimitri Tiomkin) are masterfully achieved. I have never been that enamored with this CD's 20-bit digital recording but it has grown on me. Still, I highly recommend and enjoy this CD.
Sheila from Savannah, Georgia.......2005-01-15
I love this cd. It is the greatest. Moonglow and Midnight Cowboy are my favorites.
A great album.......2001-01-28
Erich Kunzel, once again comes through with another terrific album of movie music. On this album you will find preludes, themes and main title music from some of Hollywood's most loved movies. Films from as early as 1936's "Modern Times", through to 1992's "Far and Away", are represented here. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra are as wonderful as ever, and the 20-bit digital sound system makes for unequalled sound quality. A pleasing highlight for me, is the wonderful "Moonglow" which starts off track 5. The jazz trio of piano, bass and drums eventually is joined by the orchestra for the theme from "Picnic". Then we have the beautiful waltz from "Around the world in eighty days". With the wonderful accordion solo, you can imagine being on a merry-go-round. This is truly a beautiful album...a must for lovers of orcestral music.

Customer Reviews:
These are not the same arrangements as the original movie soundtracks.......2007-01-21
I was disappointed that these are not the same arrangements as the original movie soundtracks. For example, in Colonel Bogey, the countermarch from the movie soundtrack is not included in the arrangement on this CD. Don't get me wrong, the songs are good, but I would have preferred the same arrangements as the original movies.
An outstanding compilation.......2006-08-25
This compilation is superb and a real must-buy. From Band of Brothers to A Bridge Too Far: every war movie theme is represented here. An all time classic.
The really good ones are missing........2005-07-18
While this compilation has some masterpieces such as the theme from The Great Escape and Is Paris Burning, it's missing some of the finest tracts ever written. Where is the theme from Victory and Ernest Gold's stirring epic from Cross of Iron? The closing theme from Inchon was also a feast for the ears, but it's not here. It was written by Jerry Goldsmith, one of the foremost soundtrack composers of our time. Instead we're subjected to the likes of Hanover Street and The English Patient. I'll admit Inchon and Victory weren't Academy Award winning movies, but their soundtracks were second to none. As John Stossel would say," Give me a break"!!!
"many were winners by the Academy for best scores".......2004-05-26
Silva America presents the essential in film music during the period of World Wars ~ "Longest Day:Ultimate World War Movie Theme", featuring some long forgotten cues, 53 to be exact that sent chills and thrills into the pulses of world events ~ selections from a limited collectors edition that would make any "film-score-buff" green with envy.
Released to commemorate the sixth Anniversary of D-Day, never has there ever been such a tribute compilation package from any other label and Silva comes to the forefront ~ featuring The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (Paul Bateman, Nic Raine Tony Bremner and Carl Davis as conductors), The Philharmonia (Kenneth Alwyn, Jerry Goldsmith, Mario Klemens and Paul Bateman as conductors) and also the world renown Crouch End Festival Chorus (David Temple as choir master) ~ what a gathering of talented musicians and singers fill this collection supreme.
The lineup of composers is a Who's Who in the world of film music ~ John Addison, Tomaso Albinoni, Kenneth J. Alford, Paul Anka, John Barry, Arnold Bax, Elmer Bernstein, Eric Coates, Carl Davis, Klaus Doldinger, Antonin Dvorak, Benjamin Frankel, Gerald Fried, Hugo Friedhofer, Jerry Goldsmith, Ron Goodwin, Bernard Herrmann, Maurice Jarre, Michael Kamen, Jerome Moross, Alfred Newman, Clifton Parker, Alan Rawsthorne, Ryvichi Sakamoto, Lalo Schifrin, Gerard Schurmann, David Shire, Max Steiner, Dimitri Tiomkin, Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Williams, Gabriel Yared and Hans Zimmer ~ set the stage for compositional human drama while exploring the deepest troves of musical emotion ~ one masterpiece after another, each cue manages to display both a convincing authenticity of the times and places ~ experience every tracks passion and skill for striking the exotic orchestral colors, explosive power and spectacular works of full large scale orchestral arrangements previal at every turn.
We are grateful to James Fitzpatrick (producer), Reybnold da Silva (executive producer), Rick Clark (associate producer/album sequence), Marion Garden (associate producer) and the whole gang at Silva America who have resurrected many of the soundtracks for the "film-score-buffs" in all of us.

Product Description
Gangway and strike the ruddy wreckage away for the third album from Captain Bogg & Salty... PRELUDE TO MUTINY. This is not a CD for land lubbers and powder monkeys. This is a CD that dives all the way down to Davy Jones Locker and never comes up for air. So Hoist the Grog and join the fearless crew of the Pollywogg on a CD that was carved from the keel up for seasoned buccaneers... properly warned, ye be, says I. PRELUDE to MUTINY features nautical rock versions of old standards like DRUNKEN SAILOR, as well as original songs like the literary epic MUTINY of the HISPANIOLA, and the black-powder power ballad DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

Great CD!!!.......2007-01-10
This has become one of my favorite CD's! If you like alternative and/or rock, you will enjoy this type of music. The best song is "Dead Men Tell No Tales," which embodies tips on how to me a good pirate captain:) Most of the songs have a great beat, and the voices of the singers are all rough like pirates should be.

Last of the Birthday party is a collection of aftershocks.......2006-07-03
If "Junkyard", the quintessential Bithday party album was the great earthquake in the punkscene, the songs on the following two E.P.'s (and the last of The BP) can at least be called some severe aftershocks.
The opening scream-out on "Sonny's burning" says it all: "Hands up who wants to die!" howlers singer Nick Cave in pain. And the deconstructive podium-busting of "Junkyard" goes on.
Then "Wildworld" follows, with its slow pacing drums and howling guitar; the song trashes the mind and soul and causes many lonely abandoned off spring to dance with their own shadows in the dark.
There seems to be more echoing effects in the guitars, and more contemplation and sanity in Cave's voice - not that the man is cured of whatever demons are troubeling him, thank God not, but the tight ensembling-work of The Bad Seeds come more and more into vision here.
"Jennifer's veil", a stiring emotional statement, hints at future Bad Seeds output; more singing tendencies than just spoken word or screaming, this track solely is worth a finger.
"Six strings that drew blood" is an early punk version of one of the best songs on "The firstborn is dead" album, the second Bad Seeds release. Although very rarely mentioned, is "The six strings..." version on the "First born..." album still one of Nick Cave's best pereformances, and here on the Birthday Party E.P. we have its original blueprint.
"Swampland" still has the chaos of "Release the bats" from the "Junkyard"album, as have the multi-vocals on "Mutiny in heaven".
Call it aftershocks, call it more matured and pollished, call it a musical testament, it's still all classic TBP.
This last release doesn't show any signs of decline or perishing of the band. It's just "Junkyard" little successor, and a good reason to to ponder on the question where Nick and the mates would have gone to, if The Bitrthday Party hadn't crashed that early in its own personal dark history.
One of the best cd's...........2004-09-11
If you don't love this cd (and many people won't), then you must have a very different taste in music then me. Yes, it's different. Yes, it's offensive. Yes, it's incredibly powerful. Mutiny in Heaven is insanity on a disc, Six strings that drew the blood is awesome, as is everything on this disc. Simply brilliant, and best disc to start a birthday party obsession with.
Tonight We Sleep in Separate Ditches.......2003-11-12
To categorize this CD as "goth" or "blues influenced" or "Stooges-like" is a gross oversimplification. Nick Cave is at his best bible infused morbid-ism. The addition of Einsturzende Neubauten's (and future Bad Seed) Blixa Bargeld on `Mutiny in Heaven' is pure genius. The CD in its entirety is pure genius. A timeless classic, for sure.
An excerpt from `Deep in the Woods':
Now the killed waits for the killer
And the trees all nod their heads, they are agreed
This knife feels like a knife feels like a knife that feels like it's feed.
Yeah I recognize that girl
I took her from rags right through to stitches (pray for me now)
Oh baby, tonight we sleep in separate ditches.
Wow! Postmodernism can be interesting!!!!!!!!.......2003-05-26
Every song on this compilation of two EP's is a highlight of goth, and rock and blues. Opening with the wierd "hands up who wants to die" Sonny's Burning will make you feel just like youre at a lynching - of someone who listens to commercial FM radio ( so they're not advocating anything bad ). The songs on the Bad Seed tend to be particularly percussive with a basic blues structure. Mutiny is more of a layered, introspective sound, like the earlier B.P. recordings like Prayers on Fire, although they are raucous and designed to grind. The ending of this cd is an ode to the herion addiction that the band loved to hate.
oh my lord!.......2002-02-24
This is one of those albums, that at first listen, i gasp, jump up and down, shake my hands wildly and start chanting "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!" IT ROCKS!!!! Nick Cave and his cohorts create such believably dark and menacing atmospheres that you can feel the fear. it's sooooo raw. all the tracks have this sleazy evil mood...like a strip joint in the swamp at night. all the tracks are perfect; it's one of those perfect cd's that can be listened from start to finish. it's just so coherent. if you want a goth cd...i mean real dark goth...get this cd. it basically screams "Hands up! Who wants to die?"...well actually Nick does. ;-) you can hear all the Stooges influence...It's like "Nightclubbing" meets "Search and Destroy"...super charged doom and gloom. God Bless You, Birthday Party!

After releasing 2 great progressive and innovative rock CDs...MAX WEBSTER [Hangover]...and...HIGH CLASS IN BORROWED SHOES...they seen to have created this masterpiece by bringing the song writing / guitar playing talents of...KIM MITCHELL...to the front and center with a bang!
Keyboard player...TERRY WATKINSON...writes some of his best songs ever for his CD...ASTONISH ME...and...LET YOUR MAN FLY...are both...MAX...classics.
What really makes this CD so special , besides the songs...LIP SERVICE...and...WATER ME DOWN...are the final 4 songs that end this masterpiece.
Starting with the song...THE PARTY...then to...WATERLINE...HAWAII...and ending with the song...BEYOND THE MOON.
This set of songs shows the listener just how creative and excellent...KIM...can be on his guitar.
The final 4 group of songs takes the listener on a strange but wonderful rock ride , helped buy the insane observations of...PYE DUBOIS...MAX's...5th band member who writes most of the lyrics and who co-wrote the songs...TOM SAWYER...and...FORCE TEN...with...RUSH!
This CD is...MAX...and...KIM MITCHELL...at their best.
As with all great music it may take a few listens to love this CD , but love this CD you will.
I would also highly recommend these other...MAX...CDs :
1. MAX WEBSTER , their debute CD also called...Hangover.
[Hangover...Here Among The Cats...Blowing The Blues Away
Toronto Tontos...Coming Off The Moon...Summers Up...Lily...ect]
2. HIGH CLASS IN BORROWED SHOES
[High Class...Diamonds/Diamonds...Gravity...America's Veins
Oh War!..On The Road...In Context Of The Moon...ect]
3. UNIVERSAL JUVENILES...for a another great...MAX...CD...and for the song...BATTLE SCAR...performed with...RUSH!
[Check...April In Toledo..Battle Scar...Chalkers...
Blue River Liquor Shine...Drive And Desire...ect]
"MAX" at their best!.......2005-02-28
December 31 1977 Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens. One of the greatest Rock concerts I've ever attended. "Max" was the Headlinners,My cousin bought me these tickets for my birthday( 4 days later) They did some new songs from their new unreleased album Mutiny Up My Sleeve. Their sound was impeccable. their show was awesome. I had already been a fan of Max but this event nailed it down for me! Highly Highly recommend this album. Regretfully didn't heat about the reunion tour till it was over. Please do it again guys.
This is a rich meal for the ears..........2003-07-25
Not as polished as "A Million Vacations", yet more sophisticated than "High Class In Borrowed Shoes", Max came up with something special here. There's some hot rockers and slow ballads, but dynamics abound. There's a very special vibe in songs like "Distressed" and "Hawaii" that is hard to explain. "The Party" adds the wacky trademark, of course. "Beyond The Moon" is a grand finale (eh Geddy?) indeed. Nice and hearty rock'n'roll for those of us who crave just a little bit more from our music.
Let This Album Become Your Fool.......2002-08-24
There is only one problem with Mutiny Up My Sleeve...it ends. This is an album that speaks volumes considering the foul sounds that were being produced on the canadian music market; not to mention the american market. On this album, 4 musicians and one brililant lyricist came together to create possibly the greatest album to come out of Canada of all time. This album from start to finish never fails to amaze, rock and just simply blow away! I would like to say this album is flawless, but that would be an understatement. This album is flawnone.
From the opening of Lip Service, "Max" shows that they know how to write a riff and it is possibly one of the best examples on this album to show that "Max" know how to write a song. The transitions, and there are many, are smooth and just plain brilliant. Most of these riffs are contradictory, but Max work them in a way which is almost laughable. One has to laugh at the fact that Rush have tried and tried to do what Max has done and failed every time. From here we are brought to the first Watkinson piece which has the prgressive romanticism that is always found on his songs. Not to mention the incredible soloing on Mitchell's part. On this song the listener gets a sense of a band who know exactly what they are all thinking and how they can put that connection into their writing.
The second Watkinson piece, which is by far the weak link on the album, has its moments during the last 1:30 of this song. This piece is the proverbial broken nail, on an otherwise prefect body.
From the first heavier songs, they slow it down with a sad "Water Me Down" on which the great production of this album is noticeable with a beautifully sounding piano and guitar; not to mention Mitchell's voice. "Distressed" however would have to be the high point on this side for me. The middle part alone is so brilliantly textured and layered with keyboard and guitar solos that more than one listen has to be given to this part alone. McCracken's fills on this track also add an element of technicality which only helps structure Mitchell, Myles and Watkinsons playing to sheer exactness and brilliance.
Now on side two, which is entirely and completely worthy of a chapter in the bible, Max Webster take a completely inhuman form; both lyrically and technically. "The Party" begins with an anthem that every Max fan wishes he/she could have yelled at one of their shows. From that chant the song becomes a true work of art. Much in the style of Lip Service, they create a briallinat piece of work that jumps from rock, to a zappaesque breakdown, to what sounds like leather-bound santa claus. From there Mithcell shows his prowess as a guitarist. He taps that first note to build tension until he just lets loose and floods the song with his fluid godlike playing. McCracken on the drums does not show off(unlike fellow drummer Neil Fart) but shows what a drummer needs to do to add just enough to make a song perfect. From The Party, Waterline slowly rises to add that straight rock reminiscent of Max's first album.
The last two songs on this album are the crux of the album. Lyrically Beyond The Moon is a short story on its own, which shows Pye's bleak view of what humans have become and will become. "2,000 years we crossed up Jesus, thinking hed make ends meat. Christ no!" is a summation of his depth as a word painter. Hawaii and Beyond the Moon must be listened one after the other. I see them as one song and not two. And frankly to even write about them would be an insult. I will however only say this about Hawaii\Beyond The Moon: no band from this continent has ever dared to challenge the brilliance of this flawless piece of masterwork.
Frankly, Mutiny Up My Sleeve is a necessary album for any fan of music or poetry.
MAX WEBSTER get even wierder...........2002-05-06
I give mAX WEBSTER'S first album 5 stars, HIGH CLASS IN BORROW-
ED SHOES 4 stars and this album probably 3 stars. MAX kept gett-
ing more odd with each album, which was probably KIM MITCHELL's
fault, since he wrote most of the music. The progressive, jazzy
side, which showed up on GRAVITY and IN CONTEXT OF THE MOON from
HIGH CLASS, is all over this album. Though I'm a big fan of MAX'S
hard rock songs, my favorite track from HIGH CLASS was the most
mellow song WORDS TO WORDS. My two favorite songs here are the
heavy, jazz rocker LIP SERVICE and TERRY WATKINSON'S slightly
mellow and jazzy pop rock song ASTONISH ME. WATERLINE, another
rocker, albeit a slower paced one, is also quite enjoyable and
parts of the prog rocker BEYOND THE MOON rock out a tad, but the
rest of this, with the exception of THE PARTY, is almost incom-
prehensible.MAX started getting maybe a tad too complex on this.
TERRY WATKINSON'S keyboards were coming to the fore on this, tho
KIM MITCHELL still gets in some great guitar playing. Things
would get even more unlistenable for MAX WEBSTER on A MILLION
VACATIONS......

One of the best rock albums out in a long time.......2003-12-21
This album deserves all its critical buzz. It has smart, funny, and overtly sexual lyrics, irreverantly bouncy yet charged guiter and and his drunkenly powerful voice. Theres more to this guy than his trademark shimmery star stickers and an Empire Records cameo (which is probably where you first heard him, singing on the roof with Renee Zelleweger).
If you like this cd, check out his 1996 5 song EP "Half a Rock and Roll Record" which is great.
Coyote Rocks!.......1999-12-02
I think Coyote Shivers is one of the coolest singers/songwriters ever. His style is just so differet. You just don`t hear people like that anymore. A no one does or ever did it as well as Coyote. He is truly one of a kind. And if your smart you will get his CD because it is worth wild. And you will love it, no matter who you are.

Album Description
Following in the footsteps of LIFETIME, GORILLA BISCUITS, and SAVES THE DAY, SET YOUR GOALS espouse a brand of positive hardcore punk that has sadly been absent in the music scene in recent years. Recognized as one of the "Top 100 Bands to Look Out For in 2006" by Alternative Press, the band has already gained both respect from critics and ardent fans in their relatively brief career. The band formed in early 2004, as an outlet to play the type of music they loved listening to. From there it grew into what it is now- a dedicated group of guys that have honed their songwriting abilities and are constantly on tour. The band has even persevered and stayed positive despite the theft of their trailer and the rebuilding of their van's transmission (four times). SET YOUR GOALS will be touring for the rest of the year in the U.S. and Europe with such bands as CRIME IN STEREO, BLACKLISTED, IGNITE, and THE STEAL. They are currently touring with CRIME IN STEREO and have been receiving an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the crowd. The new album, Mutiny, is full of catchy hooks and insightful lyrics, sure to make top ten lists everywhere.
Customer Reviews:
New and energizing.......2007-07-14
It's been a while since I heard a new band that has such an energizing sound. The whole format of the album adds to this as each song streams seamlessly into the next. Mutiny! is fast, powerful, just edgy enough and leaves you wanting more. I had the privlidge of seeing these guys live on the War Sucks Lets Party Tour and they we're even better live than on the album. They have a good shot at making a big splash on the scene.
Its tearing up my heart..........2007-03-28
People are hailing this like a great punk album. Okay, if you don't think this sounds along the lines of Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, and everything else in the uber-pop realm, you are suffering from severe denial. The only difference is these guys have breakdowns. However, If you like that style, then cool, they do it better that the other mentioned bands.
Keep in mind that this MTV friendly Post-Punk pop is what killed Skate Punk, and some of us are not forgiving. Part of the punk rock scene was not giving way to accessible radio-friendly tunes. But for me, if I am going to listen to power-pop, I'm going to go all the way and just jam to some N Sync.
See this band live!!!.......2007-03-16
My first exposure to Set Your Goals came in the form of an Anti-Flag concert where i had never heard of the three other bands playing. Though they played only a 28 minute set in a four hour concert, they undoubtedly stole the show from both the mediocre at best filler bands (Alexisonfire and Big D and the Kids Table) and even from the main act, Anti-Flag. I had to pick up the CD, and was equally impressed with the band members, for they just hung out selling their stuff, talking to fans, signing autographs, and taking pictures. The CD has cemented them into my top 5 bands, and is a fresh breath of air that is the at times stale punk scene. The song structure is varied and original, they do not stick to the verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus structure that has pervaded pop-punk since Blink-182 made it big. In addition, the lyrics are simply superb, they are thoughtful and pertinent without being preachy. This is a truly amazing album, but go see them live, you will not be disappointed.
Set Your Goals - Mutiny!.......2006-10-13
The Up Side: Melodic hardcore pop-punk (emphasis on the pop and punk) the way New Found Glory used to do it before hitting the big time. Mutiny's first single of the same name is instantly memorable, and We Do It For The Money, OBVIOUSLY is a punk rock gem (52 seconds in length, and not a single moment wasted). To be honest, most of the material on Mutiny! is as enjoyable as it's first single, making the entire record a complete and rewarding listen.
The Down Side: Mutiny! is too short! 9 songs, 2 intros and 28 minutes simply isn't enough for an LP, even if most of the material is stellar. A couple more songs would have rounded things out nicely.
The Flip Side: Those who hate pop-punk will be impressed with Set Your Goals' authentic hardcore influence. Those who hate Hardcore may be drawn in by the pop sensibility this band embraces. It's a win, win situation.
The Conclusion: Set Your Goals are quickly becoming a favorite at your local record store and web zine, so go ahead and give them a try. If pop-punk/hardcore is your thing, and you miss NFG, what have you got to lose?
The End.
Pacing!.......2006-09-23
One reviewer commented that they didn't know what to do with the short intro song, but I have to disagree and say they help this album stand out. This is one of the best paced albums I've ever heard. It's clear that the song order was maticulously constructed and much of this was written to fit into the whole.
Another example of great pacing on this record is in the title track. This song has one of the best and biggest choruses ever in a pop-punk/hardcore song and it's because they set up for over a minute and a half and only do it twice. It gives it so much more power.

Outstanding.......2005-05-29
What has happened to film music of the past few decades? There are exceptions, of course, but just compare this symphonic accomplishment to the bland, nondescript synthesizer score for the Anthony Hopkins/Mel Gibson film "The Bounty." The use of electronic music in a film set in the eighteenth century is a ridiculous idea anyway. (Not that that would stop others from using it to even worse effect later, as in the Daniel Day-Lewis version of "The Last of the Mohicans." But I digress.) As stated elsewhere, here are three versions of the score, clocking in at just under four hours; you won't want it to be a minute less. Whatever you might think of the 1962 film itself (and most critics' opinions seem to have been based on what they had heard about Brando's difficulty on the set, and not on an objective view of the finished product), Kaper's score cannot be faulted. There is so much more beyond the striking and memorable main theme: among the delights are motifs and melodies of symphonic power, sea chanteys, authentic Tahitian music, and more. The pressing is limited to 3000 copies, but it won't sell out that quickly. The greater part of the music listening public is a generation whose members spend their time downloading and burning, and aren't likely to plunk down the cash for a three-CD set of the symphonic score to a film they've barely heard of. But don't wait too long. This is spectacular music, spectacularly transferred to disc. It's almost better than we deserve. Enough said. (BL, Tucker, GA)
'Possibly the best FSM release...EVER!.......2005-02-07
Film Score Monthly, the magazine for the connoisseur of movie music, has released its 100th album, the powerful soundtrack to 1962's controversial Marlon Brando epic. Like the movie for which it was composed, Bronislau Kaper's Academy Award-nominated composition is brash, thrilling, tense, playful, reflective, and dynamic. Only Miklos Rosza's Ben-Hur matches it in sheer scope and sweep. Kaper's use of South Seas rhythms and chorus, along with familiar English melodies, add authenticity to the seafaring saga that moves from the North Atlantic to the the South Pacific.
The album itself gets the deluxe treatment. Each respective disc has stars Brando, Trevor Howard, and Tarita pictured on it. The forty-four-page book tells everything that one wants to know about the movie, from historical inadequacies to filming in the Pacific to construction of the ship to Brando's temperament and increasing waist size. Notes are also provided that give insight to each of the album's sixty-seven tracks.
This particular album is as much a history-maker as was the film that spawned it.
The folks at FSM have outdone themselves with this one. Limited to a production of only 3000 copies, students and fans of film scoring should scoop up "Mutiny on the Bounty" as soon as possible.
Hopefully, the release of Kaper's monumental score will create interest in the film and it, too, will receive a much-needed deluxe multi-disc treatment.
A fan can only hope!
One of the greatest scores ever written!.......2005-01-06
This is an absolutely stunning movie score given the CD release of a lifetime by Film Score Monthly.
This 3-CD set features nearly four hours of music written for one of the screen's great epic films from the 1960s.
So much was written about Marlon Brando's behavior during the filming of the tale that most critics were against the film when it was released. Still, that did not prevent it from being nominated for seven Academy Awards, including nods for Best Original Score and Best Song. (Both Oscars for that year went to Henry Mancini for "Breakfast at Tiffanys" and "Moon River").
Most books that review films still credit the 1935 Gable/Laughton version as the best ever, but some of us think differently -- we see this as one of the most underrated g-r-e-a-t films of all time, and Brando's "Fletcher Christian" is one of the screen's -- and Brando's -- most extraordinary creations.
The film is a great adventure story, magnificently filmed and beautifully cast.
Its crowning glory is Bronislau Kaper's masterpiece of a score -- one of the greatest ever written and one of the most magnificent recordings of a score ever done. This 3-CD set captures not only the original score as heard in the film, but a complete "alternate" score that was written for one of the first edits of the film before reshooting and reediting made it necessary for Kaper to rework his music for a different film. Additionally, there are the recordings done especially for the MGM Deluxe Edition LP recording.
There is so much to assimilate in this recording...the majesty of the Overture and Main Title (with chorus)sets the mood for great adventre and heroism. Leaving Portsmouth Harbor accompanies one of the most remarkable sequences put on film as the Bounty is prepared for getting underway. Kaper's inspiration for the final form of this piece owes a bit of debt to a similar sequence in Miklos Rozsa's "Plymouth Adventure", but the tribute to empire with "Rule, Brittania" truly gets the blood roused. The alternate cue for this sequence is fascinating, but the correct choice was made for the final cut. The island/native music is unique, authentic and infectiously rhythmic. The South Seas are perfectly captured in these wonderful cues.
The score's love theme, known as "Follow Me" in its choral setting, is also one of the great themes of the 1960s and is beautifully used within the film.
I could rave on and on, but the proof of the score's greatness is in this set. As it is a limited edition, any fan of this movie and great film music would be wise to invest in a copy at the earliest opportunity.
