Maladjusted
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The critics have turned on the graying Master of Mope and the early reviews were unusually savage. Perhaps that's because after 1995's inventive and rockin' Southpaw Grammar, the man has run out of steam--an idea underlined by the ho-hum lead track, "Alma Matters." Let's hope rumblings of a reunion with Johnny Marr are true. --Jeff Bateman --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Customer Reviews:
Sassy Morrissey.......2007-01-14
This album points to a maturation in the album quality of Morrissey's music. Each song flows smoothly into the next, humor balancing maudlin musings throughout the album.
The ultimately sexy lines in the opening track "you stalk the house in a low-cut blouse" lend to Moz's sensitivity and respect for the female form, but also the raw sexuality that draws his fans like moths to a flame.
The strength of the first song, Maladjusted, draws the listner in to experience the rest of the album.
A GREAT ALBUM!.......2006-04-29
Im not sure why people rag this album the way that they do. To me , I think people expect too much out of this poor man. Yes, The Smiths were FANTASTIC and the legacy they left is a hard one to live up to. But this is a different Morrissey..I think people cannot let go of the idea that he is supposed to sound like this or like that. MOrrissey has and always will be a pop singer..and a great one at that. This album is full of catchy songs. The songs are so fueled by emotions, good and bad. There isnt much to say about this album except, if you are a new fan of Morrissey and want to hear catchy, well crafted emotional pop music, then pick this one up! If you are looking for another Smiths record then go elsewhere. I give this five stars..period!
MALADJUSTED : what could have been.......2006-04-12
let's face it, Moz was not in the best of times during the recording of this album. there's really no need for me to get into the personal details of the man's private life, but this album's material reflects a tumultous time. his voice sounds notably forced for most of this album and the songs sound like at least half of them should have been b-sides. there are a few bright spots to be heard here though... "Alma Matters" has a nice bright feel to it and a well written hook and "Satan Rejected My Soul" sounds like a throwaway track from the Your Arsenal sessions (which is no bad thing). "Trouble Loves Me" and "Ammunition" sound the most assured and solid of the tracks on here. the rest if a bit floundering and (at times) downright embarrassing ("Roy's Keen", "Sorrow Will Come In The End"...yikes!). but overall...it's not a terribly awful record, but it's just not up to par with past classics like Viva Hate, Vauxhall And I, or even the adventerous songwriting on Southpaw Grammar.
as a side note, the recording sessions for Maladjusted produced some very fine b-sides that would have made a dramatic difference if they were included on the final tracklisting for the full-length album. so, here is my fantasy line up for my personal Maladjusted cd:
1. Satan Rejected My Soul
2. Heir Apparent
3. I Can have Both
4. Trouble Loves Me
5. Alma Matters
6. Papa Jack
7. Wide To Receive
8. Ambitious Outsiders
9. Lost
10. Ammunition
11. Maladjusted
Sounds even better today.......2005-04-12
With a little time under the bridge, "Maladjusted" shapes up to be another solid Morrissey album, better I think now than when it was first released (when many critics complained it wasn't up to snuff). "Wide to Receive" is one of Moz's very best songs (with a gorgeous solo flute) and "Ammunition" and "Roy's Keen" are super smooth. "Sorrow" (about Moz's court troubles with ex-Smiths members) is cutting, and "Satan" is a fabulous single, another one of Morrissey's 10 best. With so many good songs, "Maladjusted" isn't a Moz Disppointment...take it out and try it again.
This one grows on you!.......2004-11-04
'Maladjusted' is a step below some of Morrissey's other albums (namely: 'Viva Hate', 'Vauxhaul and I', and 'You are the Quarry') nevertheless, it does not deserve the negative reviews it gets - and is an interesting portrait of an artist who has come to the edge of frustration - and uses this frustration to create art. 'Alma Matters' is a classic Morrissey tune as is 'Ammunition' and 'Wide to Receive' - there are also a few tunes that are lower than classic Morrissey - 'Maladjusted' and 'Roy's Keen' - but are still good! This is a highly playable album - and I find it strangeley comforting when I'm in a bad mood - you should check it out - underrated!

there are two "The Primtives".......2002-10-13
So make sure that you are buying the right one... This one is an all-boy band with songs that run the range from Tom Jones-style to amusing Italian 60's pop...
This is NOT the one with Tracy singing "Crash" and etc...
I don't know what stars to give it, so I'll give it 5, other reviewers can adjust it as they see fit.
