Full Blown Possession
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
At their best, the Grifters are a wonderful rock band, and on Full Blown Possession they're definitely at their best. The stunning opener, "Reentry Blues," sets a tale of Vegas self-destruction and one last chance, told in a suitably bored-with-it-all voice, to guitar shocks and a muted, rolling rhythm--the sort of music Pavement might make if they traded their lo-fi pretensions for, say, ambition. From the Memphis funk of "Centuries" and the Stones-like indie rock of "Blood Thirsty Lovers" to the beat-down-to-a-crawl surf tune, "Cigarette,"Full Blown showcases a band with a real sense of rock history, and the talent to make it their own. --David Cantwell --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Album Description
After all the years the Grifters have been playing together, they can't help but sound like a band. That wasn't always the case, but on Full Blown Possession, they sound seasoned, sure of themselves, and much more into the task of making a concise disc. "Sweetest Thing" is an acoustic country-blues, while "Re-Entry Blues" rocks you with just the right attitude to make you want to hear it again and again. If it's true that alt-rock has gone mainstream, then the Grifters have all oars in the water and are paddling ahead at full speed.
Customer Reviews:
one of the best albums of the 90s.......2002-06-03
The late(?) and definitely lamented Grifters were a wonderful band from a town I love, Memphis, Tennessee, and I think this album was their best release. It is one of my favorite albums of the last fifteen years. Drop the needle down anywhere on the album (or program in any song, if you will) and you'll find a winner; what's really great about the album, though, is the way it all works together, in spite of the wide range of songs and arrangements. You'll get the most out of it, especially on first listening, if you can put it on at the start of a long uninterrupted drive where you can hear the record straight through without being interrupted by telephone calls or knocks on the door. It rocks, it's spooky, it moves you, it makes you laugh. Buy it now, while it's still available. You never know when something will go out of print.
