Amazon.com essential recording
Disney's Snow White, the world's first animated musical feature (1937), is still a standard in the industry. Though 1930s recording technology was primitive by today's standards, the Disney music studios have always used the available technology to its fullest, and this recording still stands up. The mature but hauntingly childlike Adriana Caselotti as Snow White is a unique vocal presence, and the songs include "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh-Ho," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." The score is nearly as great an accomplishment as the film itself. --John Sanchez
Customer Reviews:
The Churchill's are very talented persons........2007-02-13
When I was 6, I already had a very good sense of what is a fine music score. I'm 73 now and still loving that music.
One Song.......2006-02-19
I bought this album almost especially for the piece of music entitled "Special Sort Of Death." It does sound creepy but that's what I loved about it. From I saw the film I was like I have to have that.
Anyway another reason for me purchasing this album was the main titles for the film I love the ochestration. My favourite song on this album would have to be One Song followed by with A Smile and a Song.
And number 5 (a piece of music) I can't remember what it's called but it is creepy too the part that has snow white running through the woods.
Someday my prince will come is nice too. Adriana's voice is a little high and annoying sometimes though. But it's still nice to listen to. I listen to this album alot it's very nice and I like to listen to the version of One Song that is played at the end of the movie.
good soundtrack for halloween.......2005-07-14
first of all, i have seen the movie and the hag scares me very much. about the music,it's not good music for children because the orchestral moving creates dark suites. the other part of makin' pies is no exception. i listened to special sort of death on a site called mp3.com and the beginning is very disturbing almost, because it's when the queen appears as the old witch and she plots to destroy snow white
Queen:(laughing)it's not for you, it's for snow white
anyways, bye-bye
REMasterpiece!.......2003-01-21
This soundtrack is a perfect compliment to the film, and It's gloriously remastered to make you feel you are still watching and not just listening to the music from the movie itself.
In the liner notes I read the original soundtrack only consisted of five songs, the five songs we hear sung in the film. "One song/I'm Wishing", "Hi Ho", "The Yodeling Song", "Some day my prince will come", and "Whistle while you work". Over the years, the instrumental musical score was thrown in to create a wonderful masterpiece of a soundtrack.
I highly recommend purchasing this. If you like the music from the movie, you will love this. After hearing this for the first time(I've now heard it at least 100, thanks to my 2 yr. old), the movie is brought out to be more of a musical adventure as well as a wonderful story to be told.
This is my son's favorite c.d., and he has so much fun dancing and singing along.
A Magical, Delightful Soundtrack.......2002-10-07
This was the first of the newly remastered and expanded "Disney classic soundtracks" that I purchased for my collection, and it's still my favorite. How wonderful to have, not only the vocals from the old vinyl version ("I'm Wishing/One Song," "With a Smile and a Song," "Heigh-Ho," "Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum," "The Dwarfs' Yodel Song" (and if you don't want to get up and dance to it, there's something wrong with you!), and "Some Day My Prince Will Come"), but the background instrumentals from the track, never before available to the at-home audience. The "Queen Theme," the chilling "Far Into the Forest," and "I've Been Tricked" particularly bring scenes from the movie springing to mind. There are also two songtracks that were cut from the film print. If you're a Disney-lover, your collection must positively include this CD.

I miss the Ramones so bad.......2007-02-11
This is such a great poppy record. Everything on here was better than anything else that was out at the time (heck, it's even better than anything else that's out now) and every track here deserved to be a hit. I've had "You Sound Like Your Sick" stuck in my head non-stop for so many years now I can't imagine life without it. And Don't listen to people saying this record wasn't "punk". THe Ramones basically wrote the book on punk, therefore everything they do is by default 'punk'. I can't comment on the bonus tracks because I haven't gotten around to picking up this particular reissue yet, but by the looks of what's on there it looks like they'll sit beautifully beside the original 12 tracks.
Ramones are hangin' out in Kokomo........2006-06-14
This Ramones album was originally released in 1981. Frustrated by their lack of record sales, the Ramones hired Graham Gouldman(of art-rock group 10cc) to produce this album, figuring he could help them achieve pop success. Of course, 10cc represented the opposite of what the Ramones were about, so it was a questionable decision. In the end it didn't work, this album didn't sell any better than their previous albums. The album does have more of a "pop" sheen to it than their earlier albums, which to my mind is not a good thing. There are some undeniable Ramones classics here; like "We Want the Airwaves", "The KKK Took My Baby Away" and "She's a Sensation". But there are also some good songs that could have turned out a whole lot better with better production; like "All Quiet on the Eastern Front" and "Come on Now". Then again, there are some mediocre songs that wouldn't have been that good no matter what; like "You Sound Like Your Sick" and "Sitting in My Room". The CD adds seven bonus tracks, all of which are songs that are worse than the ones that actually ended up on the album. This is not one of the Ramones better albums, but it does have it's moments, and many Ramones fans like it more than I do. I also have to say that this album has the worst cover of any Ramones album.
I Love This Album.......2006-06-07
I had this LP when I was a kid and I just had to have the CD...
This is a classic Ramones CD and I recomend it to anyone.
Enjoy.
Pleasant Songs.......2006-02-11
I admit to being a fan of the Ramones. They are one of the most underrated and complex bands ever. They have a ton of 3 minute songs, featuring a handful of chords and fast-paced guitar work. Yet, their music is so much more and that is very evident on this album.
A few of these songs are silly in concept (The KKK Took My Baby Away), but the music and delivery is fantastic. A few of these songs are almost like bubblegum pop (It's Not My Place...), but again, they are delivered so tightly and energetically, that they succeed.
In some ways, this is not the traditional product by the Ramones. Yet, it is typical Ramones in that it is what they want. There is some growth in maturity and there is some silly fun. Best of all, it all works.
This is one CD that should not be overanalyzed. It should just be enjoyed and savored.

This is Rock/pop not punk, and i like it..........2006-01-09
When I saw this album in an $8.99 bin (along with Subterranean Jungle)I had to buy it simply because it's one that I don't have. When I listened to it in my car on the way home, it was completely the opposite of what I thought it would be. It wasn't "punk", it was more than that, it's pop, rock, and well written keeping it simple with such songs as "We Want The Airwaves", but then complexing the writting in a simple format with, "The KKK Took My Baby Away". If you love The Ramones for what they did in their first four albums you wont be disapointed either. This album is catchy and maintains a fast pace the whole way through. overall I wouldn't put this album up with Leave Home, Rocket To Russia, and the self titled, but i'd put it together with Road to Ruin, End Of The Century, and Subterranean Jungle. 4 1/2****

....a great cover album..........2006-08-28
...the beatnik termites are without a doubt one of the best modern pop punk bands out there. They add there own personality to this album. They cover the Ramones "pleasant dreams," nearly entirely, and do a very good job. Stand out tracks: The KKK took my baby away, we want the airwaves, and you didn't mean anything to me. These three songs alone make the album worth purchasing. The other songs are well done as well. Buy this album, it will be money well spent
There was beer in the soda machine........2006-08-01
There has been a minor trend in the punk rock world for bands to cover Ramones albums in their entirety. On this CD, the Beatnik Termites cover the Ramones' album Pleasant Dreams. They don't quite cover the entire album, because "It's Not My Place (In the 9 to 5 World)" is not performed. The Beatnik Termites actually do a very good job with these songs, doing straightforward punk versions of the songs, without the pop flourishes that somewhat marred the Ramones' original versions. However, the question is, why cover an album that wasn't that great to begin with? The album had some pretty weak songs on it, and those songs are still pretty weak. Beatnik Termites do as good a job as they can, but they are hindered by the source material.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderfully complete overview of Baroque secular music!.......2002-04-22
I picked this up in a bargain bin for a song and counted my blessings! I am a Baroque music fiend, with a large collection of Harmonia Mundi discs, but up until now I hadn't purchased any HM box sets. Many of my favourite Harmonia Mundi artists are featured on the five discs: Andreas Scholl, Alfred Deller, Dominique Visse, Rene Jacobs, Bernarda Fink, and Jennifer Larmore. Each disc covers a different theme: The Madrigal (disc one), The Birth of the Opera (disc two), England in the 17th Century, featuring works by Byrd, Dowland, Blow, and Purcell (disc three), A Century of French Opera, which showcases works by Lully, Charpentier, and Rameau (disc four), and The Reign of the Opera Seria, with contributions from Vivaldi, Handel, and Graun (disc five). The only thing I would have wished for would have been more opera selections from Handel (Rodelinda or Rinaldo for example). This is an excellent, very complete overview of the rise and evolution of Baroque secular music (the liner notes are very complete and deserve an A+). Harmonia Mundi has also released two additional "Pathways of the Baroque" box sets, one of instrumental music and one of Baroque religious music. If you are a Baroque fan like myself and you have the time and money, buy all three. It is a worthy investment, and the box sets offer a wide selection of artists, styles, and composers.

I'm just a comic book boy........2006-08-01
