5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

5 out of 5 stars Deja Vu.......2006-02-17

Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

5 out of 5 stars Second GGD album - Second Best.......2007-02-06

Well for all you bandwagon jumping goo goo dolls fans that came aboard after they put out 'iris' and became big, this is for you. This record was the goo's continuing with their pop-punk style started on their first one. It is slightly toned down but not by much. The release after this one, hold me up, would veer towards what the g.g.d.'s now play everyday. Mainstream overrated pop rock. Buy this one and experience what true unique, fun, inspired punk music is all about. Robby on vocals was the better choice and that was why he was their original singer. His style and vision, although may not have gotten them their mainstream success, is still what makes this and first release great. Very few cheesy ballad songs, aka Johnny songs. You find the goo goo dolls the way they were meant to be here. Do not buy anything after Jed if you are a listener with a brain and some musical sense. I don't care if people say they sold out with "a boy named goo". I say they sold out beginning on "hold me up" and never returned to the real goo goo dolls with talent, relevance, and ballz...

5 out of 5 stars True Goo.......2006-05-06

This is album is example what the Goo's are at heart, a great punk/jangle rock band. Unfortunately the Goo's Earlier albums are dismissed as bratty, trashy noise by mainstreamed critics. It's disappointing to see the Goo's go mainstream. The fun enjoyable music of the Goo's is nonexistent in albums from "Dizzy Up The Girl" and forward, it's sad to see it go. They need to move back to Buffalo and take a BIG step back and see what they've become. "Dizzy Up The Girl" and "Gutterflower" are respectable, mainstreamed cds and they don't bother most whole-hearted Goo fans, but the new "Let Love In" doesn't even show their musical talent. They've crossed the line and gone TOO mainstream. "Goo Goo Dolls", "Jed", "Hold Me Up", "Superstar Car Wash", and "A Boy Named Goo" are reminders of the "True Goo".

5 out of 5 stars Amazing........2006-02-07

I, like many others, first heard the Goos in "Iris", and fell in love. I bought Dizzy up the Girl, then, because I liked that so much, decided I wanted to hear how they had changed since they started, bought What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art and Commerce. After a while, I had managed to find all of them except this and their first release (which, by the way, I still haven't found). I was a little iffy when I first got Hold Me Up, but now I love it. I loved Jed the instant I heard it, but it would have taken me a long time to adjust if I didn't have Hold Me Up. So buy Hold Me Up first, and if you like that, go ahead and get Jed. I don't understand how people can say that they like the Goo Goo Dolls now, but not then, or then, but not now, because they've yet to write a song I don't like. But if you first heard the Goos in their more recent work, off Gutterflower and Dizzy Up the Girl, then definitely get Hold Me Up before this one.

5 out of 5 stars Wickedly fun.......2005-11-24

This album is a must-have for an avid Goo Goo Dolls fan. I absolutely love the album, but if you aren't very interested in the Goo Goo Dolls, you probably won't appreciate this album. the songs are fun and bring a smile to my face every time I play them. This album definitely shows the growth of the GGDs from then to now. This album rocks!

1 out of 5 stars The Goo Goo Dolls Did This?!.......2004-08-11

Boy have the Goos come a long way! This album is atrocious! The singing sounds like it sung by a drunken hungover reveler. 99% of the songs sound like they were written by someone who was either high on crack or suffered severe head trauma. The guitar work and drumming is soooo sloppy and noisy. Don't get me wrong; I love the Goos. I bought this album when I was 17 or 18 and it was so bad that I through it out in the same bag that I scooped my cat's litter box out with. The 1% of good on this album is for the song James Dean and Down On the Corner. This has to be the worst Goo album I ever heard and I heard all of their albums except their debut album. Get Hold Me Up instead of this album if you want to hear some of the Goos earlier work. Even Johnny said that Hold Me Up was their REAL first album.

5 out of 5 stars hard to pass this one up.......2007-07-25

I wasn't taking much of a chance on this 3 disc assortment of Telemann when I paid only $9 plus shipping for a new set from an Amazon reseller. I was not disappointed: the variety of the program is excellent & the music is very well played & recorded.

When one thinks of Telemann one automatically thinks of the trumpet, but he wrote a variety of concertos for other instruments & I was looking forward to hearing some of them. Unfortunately, because the Amazon product description does not detail the contents of this set I wasn't sure what I was getting. As it turns out, there are only three concertos for trumpet on the entire set, though all are very good & intelligently programmed with the other concertos. There are also concertos for flute, recorder & strings; flute, violin & strings; & other concertos combining these & other instruments. I especially enjoyed the second disc, which features six very appealing oboe concertos.

All in all, a very recommendable set even at twice the price.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding bargain collection of Telemann concerti with rarities.......2007-01-28

This 3 CD collection is an unusual concatenation of music by four three separate groups, two period performance and two semi-traditional. Two of the CD's (nos. 1 and 2) could be purchased separately at much higher cost. But one powerful and unusual concerto that I had not heard previously, Concerto in E minor for flute, violin, and strings, by Jed Wentz and Musica ad Rhenum evidently comes from an album not available from Amazon. The same is true for the Overture in C major for 3 oboes, and the Concerto in D major for trumpet, 2 oboes and strings, by the Amsterdam Bach Soloists

The first CD, by Martin Haselboeck with the Wiener Akademie, includes the rare and extraordinary Cricket Symphony (Grillensymphonie), or El Grillo of Telemann. That work features, as solo instruments piccolo, two double basses (!), chalumeau (early version of the clarinet), oboe, and violin. The final movement is in the earthy Polish folk style that Telemann exploited the same way that Joseph Haydn would later exploit Hungarian gypsy styles in his chamber and orchestral compositions.

The second CD is six oboe concerti played by Thomas Indermuehle with the English Chamber Orchestra, available separately in a Novalis Record at $21. See my review of this.

On the third CD the Concerto in E minor for flute, violin and strings, offers an extraordinary display of unexpected, virtuosic instrumental ensemble effects whose impact on the listeners in Telemann's time must have been startling, to say the least. I can't resist the temptation to try to sketch a few details of the openings of the movements.

The opening Allegro begins with a series of rapid upward moving scales with the entire orchestra in unison, each successive scale entering on a lower pitch, until the halted by two powerful chords followed by a downmoving broken couplets. All this has our full attention when the flute enters with what sounds like it might be a fugal passage - but no, the solo violin unexpectedly takes up the opening scalar passages that the orchestra had played in unison. At a repetition flute takes up its theme again, this time with violin in duet and the entire orchestra now commences the scalar passages with powerful effect.

In the Adagio the flute begins with a languorous theme, soon lazily chased by the violin - all this accompanied by plucked strings. In the third movement dazzingly rapid arpeggios by the soloists are superimposed on robust marching chords of the orchestra.

The final adagio-allegro begins with a short but agonizingly mournful theme in flute and violin, accompanied by eerie sequences of otherwordly minor 7ths and 9ths in the strings, the whole finally brought to a close with a ringing harpschord arpeggiated chord. The final Allegro brings all the forces - soloists as well as the strings together, interacting with each other using several rhythmic figures that are exchanged among different orchestral instruments, as well as soloists.

It's this integral use of the orchestra as an equal and often divided partner with the soloist(s) that I have found is one of the major differences between Telemann and most baroque other composers, except J.S. Bach. However in Bach it's the counterpoint that's important, not, in most cases, the variation in instrumental textures, rhythmic contrasts, and combinations.

Some minor downsides can be mentioned - a few inexplicable wrong notes or flaws in the first CD set and only sketchy, two page liner notes. However, I found Concerto for flute and violin in E alone worth the price of the CD set. This, along with inclusion of so many varied concerti in striking instrumental combinations makes this a decidedly recommendable set.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack yo an unseen Movie.......2007-07-23

This cd goes beyond the bounds of soundtracks. It must be heard to truly get the effect they were trying to relay. A MUST for Jeff's fans.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Instrumental Collaboration.......2004-08-18

Actually, this is more like 4 stars, but I snuck in a bonus star because this disc put me in a good mood.

If you're a fan of Jeff Beck's instrumental works, you'll probably love this disc. Much of the music is etherial stuff that evokes a sense of space and combines a sort of new-age lax attitude with subtle tension. Elements of bands like Shadowfax, Dire Straits and even a touch of Pink Floyd linger here and there in the keys, but the guitar is pure Beck. The flow of the disc is excellent, as is the sound quality. All in all, a real sleeper.

5 out of 5 stars Jeff Beck best kept secret.......2004-04-09

This is Jeff Beck's best kept secret. The music is very expressive and covers many styles, much enhanced, it goes without saying, with sizzling riffs from the master. A must-have for any serious Jeff Beck admirer.

4 out of 5 stars BE SURE TO VISIT FRANKIE'S HOUSE.......2003-09-25

This is an excellent soundtrack collaboration between Jeff Beck (guitars) and Jed Leiber (keyboards). While I've never seen the movie from which it's taken, I'm glad I found a used copy of this CD to add to my collection. Being released in January '93, it makes a nice bridge between Jeff's 3 CD boxed set (Beckology - November '91) and his Gene Vincent/Cliff Gallup project with The Big Town Playboys (Crazy Legs - June '93). Now if only Epic would step up and put out a CD of his other soundtrack contributions (Porky's Revenge!, Twins). See you at Frankie's House.

4 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack.......2003-03-30

This soundtrack was from the movie, "Frankie's House" about photojournalists in the Viet Nam war. The movie was a made for cable feature that followed the life of Tim Page during his stay in the war. Errol Flynn's son, Sean also saw action in Nam behind a camera, and he is the supporting character in the film. I remember the movie being good, but it must have not received a large audience as the movie doesn't appear to have been release to the video market. While watching the movie, I thought that the sound track was pretty awesome, and it should be with Jeff Beck playing.

Many of the songs on this album are for background music for a seen in the movie, and although they may up the tension as you watch, listening without the visual cues is another story. Don't get me wrong, there are some great songs here. "Hi-Heel Sneakers" is a great tune with Beck and Jed Leiber on keys trading solos. It has a sort of country feel to it. The album opens with "The Jungle", which has some pretty amazing guitar work on it, especially in the opening stanza with steep bends and taps. "Cathouse" rocks out pretty good, and "Sniper Patrol" starts out soft and airy before exploding in a cacophony of sounds.

Overall, this album has a ting of Oriental sounding music to it that provides the feeling of being in the middle of the story. The music is good, and the effort by Beck and Leiber should be applauded. If you're fans of either, this is an album to add to your collection. It's a little different, but well worth it.

Kachina Theater, produced my Michael Blue at Revolver Recordings, displays a more mature and defined brand of Jed's A Millionaire music. Kachina Theater represents the notion that although progress is important, each of us must decide at what costs.

    5 out of 5 stars Jed's Delivers Once Again!.......2002-11-17

After the release of their first album, I felt that the sophmore release would never be able to measure up. I am happy to say that Jed's (as usual) proved me wrong.
Kachina Theater is the inevitable evolution of a band which continues to write and record songs that stir the strongest and most vivid visual imagery of any band. As with their first album, this cd rocks. The catchy and compelling guitar rifts, drums, and bass keep you returning to the cd, while the vocals and lyrics draw you into a place you are happy to visit and proud to be a part of. Shawn Harrington writes an amazing song. It won't be long before you turn on your radio (in any area of the country) and will hear this group. Beat the crowds... I heard of this band from a friend that moved here from the U.S.. They are truly gifted artists and the lead singer has the most amazing voice. I love the CD so much it has not left my CD player since it arrived.

5 out of 5 stars Buy Your Own Copy!.......2002-10-17

A friend of mine from AZ told me that I needed to buy this Cd, so I did. One of the best Cd purchases I have ever made. I have let a lot of my friends and family listen to or borrow my copy and everybody has their own favorite. I have had a hard time getting it back from some people so I've been telling them to buy their own copy! It's very versatile, there's something for everybody. I just hope that the band is able to come to Chicago soon, so I can see them live.

    5 out of 5 stars SUPERB COMPILATION.......2005-03-31

The 2 separate cds of "Southern Blues," Vols. 1 and 2 are very well made, well executed compilations. both have excellent liner notes. both are very good to excellent transfer to cd format, with little or no surface noise on either cd. and best of all, a very good bargain price from this UK distributor, which also puts out a large number of bargain compilations of US blues and jazz from before WW2. all in all, if you manage to find this cd, you will not be disappointed, which includes some hard to find songs as well. dave.

4 out of 5 stars Not Porter's Best, but Even 2nd Tier is Better Than Most Others.......2007-06-09

Cole Porter is probably my favorite musical composer, but Something for the Boys is usually considered one of his lesser works. In my mind, that puts it about even the best of what people write nowadays. The music is very pleasant. Could It Be You is a very nice ballad. Hey Good Lookin' shows both leads off well. By the Mississississinewah is hilarious, but leaves you wondering why in the world a show has a paean to bigamy sung by two characters playing at being Indian squaws. I'm in Love with a Soldier Boy is one one of those songs that plays on and on in your head. He's a Right Guy is one of Porter's lesser rhumbas, and what is a "right guy," anyway?

Ethel Merman is the Merm, and the album is worth having just for her performance. Bill Johnson holds his own opposite her, which was no mean feat. The only other recording I know of with him is Pipe Dream (11 years later, as William Johnson). He sounds younger and less polished here, but could put a song across. Taken together, the two performance make you wonder why he wasn't a bigger star, and you suspect he would have been if he hadn't died a year after he did Pipe Dream.

One puzzling thing is that the Overture has a song in it that doesn't seem to show up anywhere else on the album. If I recall, it's the second section. It's something like When My Baby Goes to Town, but I don't think that's it. I don't know if the number was cut or just not recorded, but it's a shame because it sounds like it would have been as good as or better than the numbers that were recorded. Any info on this would be appreciated.
