Cover Your Ears [Explicit Lyrics]

About the Artist
The Gretchens are either a punk rock band from Buena Park, California, a sunshine pop band from Long Beach, an alternative band from L.A., or a girl-group with sixties surf-folk-pop sensibilities from Burlingame. Judge for yourself when you listen to America’s latest music sensation.

Above all, the Gretchens are two chicks and two dudes who have been friends for more than 20-years. Guitarist Joseph Gretchen and virtuoso drummer Homer are both alumni of the long forgotten Orange County band Flying Spit. Tired of playing Irish folk-tinged punk rock, the two left Flying Spit (who evolved into the Brodies featuring Mike Johnson on bass) to form the Gretchens, with founding members Chacheena (vocals) and Jay Pee Gretchen (bass). The quartet floundered in the early years, struggling to ‘play’ their instruments while honing their distinct sound. Happily, they eventually mastered their own powerful pop songs.

Album Description
Cover Your Ears – the very first full-length recording from the Gretchens was made available in November 2004. The 22-song independently released CD is jammed with all of your favorite Gretchens’ songs. Buy your copy today!

The band recorded Cover Your Ears over a couple days during Lent 2004 at Desert Moon Recording in Anaheim, California, just beyond the shadow of the Happiest Place on Earth. Fueled by lots of beer and a desire to capture the Gretchen sound for posterity, the band cranked through song after song, never looking back to correct the occasional bum note or timing mistakes. This is a warts and all record; stripped down rock ‘n’ roll the way God meant for it to be played.

You can call it rock, punk, pop, electric surf folk, or affix your own equally banal label on the Gretchens... This is an all new CD of fresh sounding tunes from one of California's most unheralded groups.

5 out of 5 stars Seriously, this album is a lot of fun.......2005-01-04

There are a lot of bands that want to be the next "American Idol" and every note and lyric carries the weight of self-indulgence. Not the Gretchens, they will never be assused of taking themselves too seriously and that's why this CD is so great. It's a straight-forward surf/punk inspired guitar and drum blast, great harmonies and songs of about 2 minutes each. You can tell they had great time writing the lyrics because the songs are fun to listen to. It'll make you want to start your own band again because you're jealous of the fun they're having!

If you like simple songs,
and lyrics that make you sing along
grab this CD before its gone!

4 out of 5 stars Mediocre Music at Its Best.......2005-01-01

At first, the album doesn't seem that appealing to the ears, however, after you become familiar with the lyrics, the style, and the energy created by these four musicians, you will be blown away.

The songs are, quite simply, fun. The laid-back SoCal riffs make for a great soundtrack during that trip up PCH you've been meaning to take.

5 out of 5 stars Arouse your Ears with Cover Your Ears.......2004-12-20

If you're a seasoned Rock and Roller, this album will fit you like a pair of old Levi's. The album as a whole has an energy driven beat with great story tellling lyrics. You'll find yourself mouthing these songs thoughout the day. "Rice Krispie Treat" should come with a warning; Don't consume a caffeinated beverage before listening to this song! The energy blast created could cause a person to get pinned on the ceiling."Big Long Car" and "Cross-Dresser" have lyrics which will stick to you like warm gum to your shoe. This is an album that gets you up and gets you going.

5 out of 5 stars Good old fashion rock 'n roll!!!!!.......2004-12-08

This cd has good old fashion rock 'n roll music. There are not a lot of bells and whistles, but it definitely makes you want to groove to the tunes. My favorite song is "Cross-Dresser" because of the great harmonizing, the awesome guitar and bass playing and the entire feel of the song. My other favorite song is the touching love song "Rice Krispy Treat". This is a great cd to add to your music collection.

5 out of 5 stars For a good time...Cover Your Ears.......2004-12-07

If you want to kick a bad mood in the ass, this CD can help. There is no way you can get through these 40 minutes of rock `n' roll without cracking a smile. The Gretchens have successfully combined punk, surf, pop, and clever lyrics to create an infectiously playful collection of songs. To not sing along with Turtlehead, Wesley Willis, or the ever so dirty chorus of Teresa Piece O' Poo is a challenge. And if you're not bobbing your head or tapping your feet to any one of the songs, call the coroner `cause you must be dead!
