A Recognition of the Gift of others.......2000-09-06
When I listened to Amazing Grace, played out on the bag pipes on Dewar's Bag Pipe Festival CD, I was taken back to a Combat Retreat Ceremony in which I was privilaged to be a part of. In a dusty plot, in the hills near Lackland Air Force Base, We stood sweating in the hot sun, in full battle dress, and payed tribute to those Americans who have laid down their lives so that all of us remaining safe at home may live the lives we do in freedom. The poem, "Old Glory" was read, and as we listed to the words and watched our flag wave in the wind, Sundenly the tune of Amazing Grace seemed to sound like the hopes of rescue of my captured comrades. The Bag Pipe like their cries. So bitter their fate, like the bittersweet base note on the bag pipe, ever present and ever howling. And As I listened to the words of the poem, and the Crying of the bag pipe, and the tune of Amazing Grace which God has bestowed upon our country so much, a tear left a single streak, down a dusty cheek.
