With a dozen years of releases under their belts, Outrageous Cherry are the preeminent power pop rockers from Detroit (a city primarily associated with Motown and the garage punk of The Stooges and The MC5). The disc opens with the punchy and incredibly catchy song, "Pretty Girls Go Insane." This opener sounds so right it's amazing it hasn't already been written. Singer-guitarist-songwriter Matthew Smith has matured into a composer who draws on the past without being trapped by it. These songs bristle with immediacy, with nary a hint of nostalgia to be found. The twelve songs clock in at thirty-seven minutes, proof once again that brevity can be a powerful tool. --David Greenberger

Good 2005 release from the long-running(15 years now)Detroit band, that continues their tradition of bringing to you, their own brand of 'trippy psych'.Almost as breath-taking as their 2001 'Book Of Spectral Projections' effort(see my review).Tracks here that make the grade are the catchy opener "Pretty Girls Go Insane"(good point!),the rocking "Detroit Blackout","Trouble Girl" and "What Have You Invented Today?".I would suggest to,listen to the sound clips first before purchasing this CD.A should-have.

Thank god for Outrageous Cherry. This is fantastic, sunny, Nuggets-era pop that makes me smile like no other band. I recently saw them on tour and was overjoyed at their sound. Thank you, Outrageous Cherry, for keeping the power pop alive.

4 out of 5 stars Sunny day Pop.......2005-05-10

A staple of Little Steven's Underground Garage for the past few months...Outrageous Cherry's new album OUR LOVE WILL CHANGE THE WOLRD opens with the catchy "Pretty Girls Go Insane" and thus begins yet another tasty pop confection brewed up by popsmith Matthew Smith. The late 1960's sound radiates throughout like a bright sunshine. "(You're Not) A Nice Girl" sounds like it was pluked from the airwaves from an Oldies radio station. The band does a good, throughout-tracks like "Why Don't We Talk About Something Else" and the titular track really groove above and beyond the call of duty. While this kind of nostalgic, fun pop music may not be for everyone-but for those who yearn for a return to the happy-go-lucky days of Top 40 music...this record will change their worlds.

    Wildfire is good.

Up/Caught in the Middle/Down is worth the price of the album.
I paid $28 for a used copy back in 1991.

I would give the album 6 stars if possible, there is nothing like it.

    5 out of 5 stars A true legend........2006-12-26

Read his bio and your eyes will pop out! This is a tremendous piece of early acid tinged mid to late 60's rock history. For serious students of the real roots of hard rock and acid rock and the drug movement in rock, this is essential. His following release "Good Clean Fun" is almost as important.

    5 out of 5 stars Outrageous!.......2002-10-31

... One essential bit of information I know about Kim Fowley is he produced, arranged and I think wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on one of the Runaway(Joan Jet, Lita Ford) records, which is one of the most seminal early all-girl kick-a$$ rock albums recorded. About half of Kim Fowley's Outrageous record is straight ahead, super balls-out, catchy, rockin', late seventies sounding rock with amazing lead guitar and vocals(Fowley on both) with some outrageously, wild lyrics. The other half of the record is completely way out of this world featuring Fowley's brand of crazed vocals like you've never heard before and never will unless you pick up this record. Animal Man, the first cut, is probably the best kick-a$$ rock and roll song with a weird edge ever written. The production on this record is also phenomenol. I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves kick-a$$ rock and roll with a weird edge, such as Zappa and Beefheart. Besides Zappa or Beefheart, I challenge anyone to find something as weird, catchy and rockin' as Outrageous on this planet.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Electronic Rock from Sweden.......2007-05-07

Alice In Videoland are one of my favorite musical discoveries in recent years and 'Outrageous', their second album, is the reason why.

Incredibly catchy, riff-heavy, guitar-driven, electronic pop rock. There's no way I couldn't like it. Their first album ('Maiden Voyage') was a solid entry with several great tracks, but they really came into their own with this album.

Whereas 'Maiden Voyage' showed a band with great talent sorting out what their sound was going to be, 'Outrageous' displays a tour-toughened band confident in their direction and fully exploiting their uniqueness. They dive headlong into a more "industrial" sound on 'Outrageous'.

Their lead singer (Toril Lindqvist) has a distinct voice (sometimes compared to Dale Bozzio/Missing Persons) and a real knack for grrrll-power lyrical turns. I was surprised to find out that she had only recently begun singing after a long stint as a guitarist, as she has solid voice with a unique approach.

The other members of the band (Anders Alexander -Drums, Johan Dahlbom -Bass, Dominique/Carl Lundgren -Synths) all bring solid musicianship to the fold. The band have a very solid dance groove, using a lot of deep arpeggiated synths straight from the current electro-house club scene. The unique thing about AiV however is how successfully they fuse that synthetic sound with organic guitar crunch and heavy live drums from the alternative-rock scene to define their own sound.

There's really no "duds" on this album, but particular stand-out tracks would include: 'Radiosong', 'Cut The Crap', 'Emily', and 'Ladykiller'.

Clever songwriting, great production, and a distinct sound. AiV has it all. [...]

4 out of 5 stars An Eighties Touch To EBM.......2006-01-03

Alice In Videoland - the very name promises a wild adventure into something quite bizarre. And you bet the name delivers! The band makes music that is a powerful mix of electro, punk and EBM, with pulsating basslines, slamming drums all brought together with cocky and stylish female vocals. Formed in 2002, the band won Best Newcomers at the annual awards for independent music in Sweden in 2004, and now, with some changes to the band line-up, they are finally back with second full-length release, Outrageous.

It is certainly time the world sits up and pays attention to Alice In Videoland, Sweden's answer to the electronic music scene which has been far too safe and boring for too long. Outrageous promises to be more fun and more quirky than their debut release Maiden Voyage. In fact, it is highly reminiscent of early 80's pop and punk-rock... This music is a blend of eighties pop-divas Madonna and Cyndi Lauper with current punk-rockers Sahara Hotnights. A perfect blend that gives extremely catchy results!

The album begins off with the strong "Ladykiller", followed by the catchy adrenaline pumping "Cut The Crap". If the first track gets you only as far as tapping your toes, the second will no doubt make you get off your chair and get you dancing. "Emily" follows next, taking the tempo down, but the danceablility scale remains right up there. After the third track, things slow down a little bit, until we get to "Radiosong", which has some addictive synth lines. Then there's track number eight, "Bad Boy", which is much like the early nineties' hit "All Night Long" by Cathy Dennis.

It's great listening to this album in fact and it must be said that the up-tempo tracks are what Alice In Videoland do best for singer Toril Lindqvist seems to fall short in the vocal department when it comes to the slower songs. She however more than makes up for it with her attitude and personality, so no one will be complaining really.

Especially for fans of the eighties and modern lovers of synthpop, Alice In Videoland's Outrageous will be a treat. This is the best of the eighties with an updated touch. This is music with plenty of attitude and style. In fact, if Madonna ever needed help in deciding which direction she should be moving to next, she should probably take a listen to this.

Well, I certainly hope Alice gets stuck in Videoland longer than she was in Wonderland because frankly speaking, she seems to be doing pretty damn alright here.

      4 out of 5 stars Outrageous Cherry - 'Out There In The Dark' (Del-Fi) 4 1/2 stars.......2006-05-16

Good 1999 release by Detroit's own pyschedelic popsters. About as good as the other two Outrageous Cherry CD's that I've made a part of my music collection, 'Book Of Spectral Projections' and 'Our Love Will Change The World' (see my reviews of both). With uptempo tracks like "Togetherness", "Corruptable" and "Tracy", this disc is hard to keep on the shelf that much. Was also sort of blown away by this CD's closer, the eleven minute head tripping "There's No Escape From The Infinite". Take it from me, IF you dig this particular genre, it rarely gets any better than this. A must-have.

      5 out of 5 stars Super Famous..........2005-03-09

is what this band should be, with money falling out of their pockets from selling so many albums..but since most Americans are lame they continue to fly under the radar. I have seen them live twice and both times it was great. This is by far my favorite album, most of the songs are just classic. I would say it is an almost perfect album. Buy this!

4 out of 5 stars Big hits, lots of misses.......2003-05-03

This album is a tough one to sum up, but here goes: a few of the tracks here (specifically "Corruptable" and "Georgie Don't You Know") are power pop at its finest, reflecting the head-nodding finger-snapping anthems of the 60s through a fuzz filter. Unfortunately, the band seems to have attention-deficit disorder and wanders all over the board from song to song. As a result, many of the tracks here are lackluster. Nevertheless, I feel the good outweighs the bad -- just be prepared to skip past some tunes that come off as uninspired filler.

      5 out of 5 stars Rock On.......2002-12-19

This album is one of my all time favs. And I'm not a psychadelic fan or obscure record collector or anything wacky like that. In fact, Matthew Smith, is one of my all time fav songwriters (plays with the Volebeats as well).

First, it doesn't get any better than Where Do I Go When You Dream. Though just about every track is good (with one or two exceptions like any other album). Yeah, you could describe it as a bit psychadelic, but the songwriting, lyrics, and hooks are so good you wouldn't even care anyway. Good singing and original guitar playing as well.

Now, the question is how do I get my hands on their older stuff?

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Garage Pop!.......1999-10-28

Outrageous Cherry's 4th album is perhaps their best and most focused to date. Their sound is kinda like a hybrid between the velvet underground and the monkees with a bit of sonic youth's distortion and experimentation thrown in. whilst they don't reach the heights of, say, "pale frail lovely one" from their debut self-titled album (1994), they have stumbled upon a new found cocnsistency which makes this their best overall work. anyway, stand-out tracks are "georgie don't you know" and "where do i go when you dream?". if your into garage-psych or just good old-fashioned guitar pop, you must check this out.

This is an album that is exceptionally good, especially in a time when great funk music was rare. I would highly recommend this cd for all fans of funk music. It kicks out the jams from start to finish. It also contains some great guitar-driven ballads. "Make My Day" and "Outrageous" are packed with groovin' bass lines! "Worn 'n' Torn" is a rock-flavored dance tune that's guaranteed to turn out any party! Overall, this is a must-have cd!!

        Album Description

Seventeen of the most talented, unusual, and outrageous independent bands from around the country have come together to pay tribute to The Dead Milkmen. Since the Milkmen stopped making albums a few years ago, we found ourselves obliged to continue spreading their message of love, war, punk rock, drugs, chemical waste, and cat puke.

4 out of 5 stars As Performed By Geeks Who Want To Be Punks.......2003-05-23

It always seemed there were two camps of Dead Milkmen fans: the giggling geeks who thought Soul Rotation was deep and brilliant, and the punks that wanted to trample them to the tune of the Milkmen's reptillian debut.

This collection features more of the first kind of fan putting their own nerdy twists on the songs. But there's also a few of the rowdier kind to keep the balance. And then there's some bands that might never have listened to a Milkmen album.

But I mean, come on, it has Adam and His Package on it; that alone should give you an idea of what the tracks are like. A bunch of songs as performed by geeks who want to be punks.

This is a fitting tribute to a band that had such a bi-polar fan base. It's rather good too; it might have been exceptional with a little more hard rockin', but the nerd rock is pretty damn tasty.

        4 out of 5 stars interesting MOOOOOusic!.......2002-02-24

This CD is a hodgepodge collection of tribute covers to Phillys local goofy punks The Dead Milkmen.
Some of the covers are fabulously creative interpretations, some are plain painful to listen to, some are quite interesting but overall it's a nice tribute.

The best- Groundhog Day and their version of Beach Party Vietnam which parodies the original parody by including Elvis, Archie, Edith and Dick Nixon in on the fun. Sorching guitar solo!

PLUS the CD has bonus MP3's included by the artists!!!! Buy it and you're in for a treat.
