No Code
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Though it contains none of the band's radio staples, No Code may be the one Pearl Jam record that holds up start to finish. Partly this is because of the songs, which like the hypnotic "Who Are You" are unusually straightforward. But it's also because this is the most musically varied effort of the band's career: "Hail, Hail" is a full-tilt firestorm, but the quiet "Sometimes" is a hesitating, slow burn. And while "Smile" has a Crazy Horse roar, the unplugged setting of "Off He Goes" lets the song breathe and the emotions sink in. --David Cantwell --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

All true Pearl Jam fans love this record.......2007-04-12
Here it is...possibly the most complete Pearl Jam album. It's got rockers like "Hail, Hail" and "Habit", slow burns like "Present Tense", beautiful melodies like "Off He Goes", and flat out cool experimental tracks like "Who You Are". This album may not have Pearl Jam's biggest hits, but pop it in and you will be surprised how well it flows as a cohesive work. There is not a single skip worthy song. You won't find a "Jeremy" or "Alive" here, but give it a chance, this album will stick with you as a high point in Pearl Jam's catalog.
Compelling Branching Out.......2007-03-04
"No Code" was always going to be a difficult direction change for Pearl Jam. The album cuts out the majority of their typical grunge sound, and adds a more complex and genre mix-matching style. In essence, calling it the band's experimental searching album can sum it up.
The fact that PJ decided to branch out from their idiosyncratic 90s Seattle, a sound that they so heavily shaped, seems to me a good idea. I for one do not want to hear re-hashing. That is not to say that this album will not satisfy die-hard fans of the genre. The band still rocks out in style with heavy hitters such as "Hail, Hail", a ferocious song and Vedder's most "Ten"-esque vocal delivery. "Habit" is my other favourite of the hard rocking tracks, and again sees PJ hark back to their early 90's sound, fusing catchy choruses with distorted riffing and an overwhelming sense of urgency.
The biggest change in direction comes in the pop sensibility of the album. The writing is often very laid-back, in a kind of melancholy and introspective way, all the time retaining a heavy pop, even glam-pop at times, vibe. This is exemplified in tracks such as "In My Tree", which sports one of the band's most infectious vocal melodies to date, "Off He Goes" which has a very laid-back and drawn out Neil Young feel to it, and my personal favourite of the album "Present Tense", which slowly progresses a simple yet brilliantly poignant chorus. While PJ have always had a good ear for melody, the more popish songs on "No Code" see this aspect fully realised. At times these styled songs do not completely work, such as the rather lagging opener "Sometimes" and the rather sluggish and meandering "Around the Bend". But solid tracks such as "Who Are You", "Smile" and "Red Mosquito" keep the album flowing nicely, and make for a very solid release.
This album is best listened to with an open mind, perhaps even disregarding the fact that this is Pearl Jam, one of the key creators of the Seattle boom, and thinking of them as a pop-rock band. The songs constantly, ranging from hard rock to sombre folk to tribal middle-Eastern styling. Change can be good.
An unfairly treated gem by America's greatest rock band.......2006-10-09
Ok, so when No Code came out in 1996 Pearl Jam was walking a strange line. They had survived the death of "grunge" (a title which never really suited them anyway) and were still in fact one of the biggest bands in the world. Ten and Vs. had set the world on fire, and Vitalogy had been their most acclaimed album yet. The thing was... Pearl Jam didn't care. Eddie and the boys threw their hands at the mainstream again (refusing to make videos and fighting ticketmaster were earlier signs of a band who walked to a different drummer) and created No Code, an experimental masterpeice. No Code was an album the band WANTED to make, and did. While songs like "Hail, Hail", "Smile" and "Who You Are" became radio friendly, No Code failed to live up to previous albums successes. No Code would be Pearl Jam's least "successful" album to date. The band didn't care, and neither did I. "No Code" is almost beyond words. "Sometimes", "Red Mosquito", "In My Tree", and "Present Tense" are some of the best songs the band ever created. I'm hoping in the years to come that No Code will be recognized for it's brilliance, and I think that it will. While listening to Dad's old cd's, a young man/woman will find No Code and recognize the name Pearl Jam. He will listen to it, and he will feel what I feel. That No Code is perhaps the most underrated album of all time. Enjoy.
Like a fine wine, this one gets better with age.......2006-09-25
This album is not as bad as the critics hailed it to be. It certainly grows on you with each listen and was very much a cross over record for the band, showing a more relaxed, mature side to the band. And following the sales of the first 3 records the band earned the right to go down whatver path they pleased.
I would say this would have to be the most eagerly anticipated album of all time, in my opinion anyway. The bands popularity had reached enormous heights by the end of 1995 and I had just seen the band live for my first time so I couln't wait to get my hands on this album. Having got the merkinball EP as an appetiser I couldn't wait for the main meal, but at first listen I must say I was very disappointed. Where was the Pearl Jam I had grown to love and rocked hard? I asked myself... While there were a couple of songs I liked instantly, like Hail, Hail and red mosquito, this album spent a good couple of years collecting dust on my shelf. I thought the design of the album sleeve was ridiculous, this was 1996 remember and CD cases were standard, although now it seems all bands have adopted this new design.
So from memory I think it was Easter of 1999 that I really got into this album. Yield had already been released and I had seen the guys perform live once again. They played a few of the 'No Code' songs and they sounded great. Present Tense is by far the best song off the album, it starts off quite mellow before bulding into an in your face your knockout blow of a song. Other notable inclusions are Smile, Off He Goes and Around The Bend. This is very much Stone and Eddie's album and Stone even lends his vocal to a song 'Mankind' which is quite good.
In summary, this album stands very much on its own in the Pearl Jam catalogue. There are no others like it, and from time to time, it deserves a listen, because it signified a fork in the road of the Pearl Jam journey.
No Code, the Bright Red Line Between Classic Pearl Jam and Modern Pearl Jam.......2006-07-14
When the album first came out in 1996 I was disapointed. First, many songs had been leaked such as Red Mosquito and these songs did not live up to the standard carved out by classic Pearl Jam songs such as Go, Porch, etc. After a while, especially after hearing the songs in concert the album began to make sense. To date, my favorite song is Mankind. I think this is the only Pearl Jam song not sung by Eddie Vedder. Perhaps that novelty is the reason. Regardless, you will hear an organic sound to this album. Tribal drum beats from then drummer Jack Irons set this album apart from any other Pearl Jam album. 1996 also marked a tour that was Pearl Jam's first full US tour because the Ticketmaster conflict had ended. Prior to that year, most shows were either festival shows or one off productions from a local radio station. A new drummer, a new sound and a new focus on touring changed Pearl Jam forever. This album marks that change, so if you plan on seeing them in concert I suggest listening to this album first.

Customer Reviews:
Industrial Black Metal.......2007-03-02
Aborym is a black metal band from Italy. This album features Attila (Mayhem), on vocals. With No Human Intervention is an album that just about any fan of black metal will enjoy. Yet, at the same time there is an industrial/electronic twist in their music that gives them a more memorable sound than the standard black metal we hear. While being far from perfect, this album will surely please a black metalhead.

No human intervention here-.......2004-04-24
This is a great album, aborym features former members of Mayhem, Emperor, etc. and a guest vocal spot from Nattefrost of carpathian forest on it. Very well written songs, pounding pace, yet very pleasant to listen to. Driven by a extremly impressivly programed drum machine, lots of industrial influences also. This is definetly a breath of fresh air, id recommend this to any fan of black metal.
Innovative.......2004-04-23
Aborym just keeps getting better and better from the last release to their next. This is their absolute best album to date and an etremly heavy one as well. Aborym incorperate a variety of musical styles which many call Post-Blackmetal, this style of black metal is just an apocalyptic vision of music. Hard hitting crushing metal with industrial and even some "techno" influence. On a closing Amazon's rate or price is far to high, try Red Stream Records.
666.......2003-03-11
Aborym. Dont know a heck of a lot about this band, but I do know that the lyrics were compiled by ex-EMPEROR dude Bard Eithun, and guests on the album include: vocalist/guitarist Nattefrost (of Norwegian Black Metal band CARPATHIAN FOREST), and drummer Migg (of Doom band MISTRESS & Black Metal band ANAAL NATHRAKH) - however - this is their only album I've actually heard. Well, "With No Human Intervention" is one of those albums that changes rapidly from one genre to another quite often in the same track. The intro is spoken words by children. The title track sports more BLACK METAL than anything else, with electronic sounds in the background. "Does Not Compute" is a strange track, containing a loop of a computer booting-up sample, and an electronic beat similar to APHEX TWIN. "Digital Goat Masque" consists of a mix of slow atmospheric & classical synth, fast & slow drums, heavy & cruisy guitar riffs, pretty much just an allround good decent track, probably my favourite. "The Triumph" mixes cool spooky electronic sounds, heavy & tranquil guitar and a good solo, raspy/growled and semi-clean sung vox, and female orgasm!! Final track "Automatik Rave'olution Aborym " is yet another electronic track - more TECHNO (note: RAVE'olution) this time. Although this album is predominantly METAL, there is a lot of electronica goin on here, and if your not a fan of the whole TECHNO/INDUSTRIAL or EXPERIMENTAL ELECTRONIC sounds, then you probably should'nt bother with this CD. Otherwise, go for it, you may be pleasantly suprised.

Customer Reviews:
The best chill and erotica box set ever!!!.......2005-03-16
I must agree with the previous writer; this CD set contains CDS-200 copy protection which requires you to install a program on your cpu to play highly compressed versions of the songs that sound like garbage! If one pays for the cd, then why can they not copy it to his player of choice? The music industry is totally going about combatting music piracy the wrong way! Maybe they should lower CD prices to compete with piracy, but then they would lose their huge profits. We all know that the musicians see little of that money anyway.
Enough of my ranting... this boxset is absolutely amazing! Forget about Morricone's spaghetti western music... this is where it is! The first disc is my absolute favorite, then followed by the third. His unique arrangements are comparable to no one. Although, the lounge revival is long past us, this music is timeless and will leave you begging for more.
Check out the soundtracks to Le Casse, Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion, and La Donna Invisible.
Great Box Set but has Copy Protection!.......2004-09-22
Ennio Morricone is the master of Italian soundtracks. Listening to these gems transports you inside the movies! This is a great box set especially at the price being offered by Amazon. This same box set goes for $50 and more at other sites. But there's something very ugly lurking in this box set: It has the Macrovision CDS-200 copy protection. Which means people who enjoy taking their music with them on portable devices will have lots of Internet searching to do to find out how to rip these 3 wonderful CDs! Shame on Amazon for not pointing this out in their description. Other internet sites that sell this box set, do disclaim that it has copy protection. Macrovision has supposedly released a CDS-300 version of their copy protection, but there is no news regarding whether this box set will be re-released with the newer copy protection. The new version does allow you to rip it for personal use.
You can get around it, I won't tell you how, but you can! No, I'm not a pirate, I own over 800 CDs that I've purchased all legally, I don't trade my mp3s, but I like to take my music with me.
It's a shame that people like me that do purchase CDs instead of downloading the crap that's out there have to pay the price.
Sincerely,
Frank Castro
Mucho Maestro.......2004-06-10
I'm not sure which is more amazing--the sheer overwhelming volume of films Ennio Morricone has scored over the years, or the fact that he has produced so much beautiful music in the service of so many obscure, second-rate and otherwise forgettable ones. There is a generous sampling of the latter on display in this 3-disc set, culled from late-sixties and early-seventies films whose titles even the most hardcore of movie--or Morricone--fans would be hard-pressed to recognize. And yet, as always, the variety, the quality and the beauty of the music is unsurpassed. This is a compilation for the Morricone collector who thinks he's heard it all before--there is very little of the overlap or duplication found in so many of the other compilations of this great artist's work. All of which gives the music a fresh, vibrant quality while remaining unmistakably, inimitably Morricone. Cool packaging too.

The Gainesville super-group.......2006-11-30
When Palatka broke-up, two of them (Mark and Ryan) started playing with Matt (Tired From Now On/Strikeforce Diablo/AssholeParade) and Dave (Twelve Hour Turn), and the outcome was very much a cross between said bands - fast, melodic, intense, and just plain amazing.
This was the beginning of some great recordings by True North, but this one stands out as being the most raw and straight-forward (in a good way).
