The Mix
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This 1991 Kraftwerk collection of often drastically remixed "greatest hits" offers a good, if slightly skewed, overview of the Dusseldorf legends' career. Inspired by the band's continuing influence on modern pop, dance, and techno, founders Florian Schneider and Ralf Hutter tweak Kraftwerk's sonic foundations with the intention of making their music more club-friendly. While some of the faithful have lamented the tinkering, The Mix presents a distinct, typically idiosyncratic take on modern club music. It also represents the way Kraftwerk usually sounds in their infrequent live forays; witness the reworking of "Radioactivity" into an unexpected (the band has been notably apolitical) antinuclear statement aimed largely at Britain's Sellafield installation. The Mix bows to trend in concept only; the execution is pure Kraftwerk. --Jerry McCulley --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Having long since shed their image as hip-hop's clown princes, the Beastie Boys now bring what feels like their emeritus recording, a celebratory instrumental memoir of all of the influences (except punk) that brought them to their secure place among hip-hop's fickle elite. The party opens with the aptly titled "B for My Name," its plodding bounce staking claim to the mid-tempo path the album treads almost throughout. "14th St. Break" picks up the pace, especially in the auxiliary percussion breakdown, complete with rally whistle. Then, beginning with "Suco de Tangerina," the album drops into a deep groove cut from dub- and dancehall-tinged ostinati that carry through a full third of its tracks. Among these, "The Gala Event" suffers from a lack of developmental motion that characterizes many of these tracks, but highlights still abound. "Off the Grid," for example, departs from the otherwise unbreakable chill and rips the proceedings wide open, blooming again and again in a series of pulsing riffs that celebrate the very institution of the instrumental groove. More than 20 years since Licensed to Ill took a long, irreverent piss into the mainstream, it seems you can still fight for your right to party. --Jason Kirk

The Mix-Up is Beastie Boys' first-ever full album of all-new instrumental material. The follow-up to 2004's To The 5 Boroughs, The Mix-Up features Diamond, Horovitz and Yauch back on drums, guitar and bass, with able assistance from Keyboard Money Mark and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz, on 12 brand new wordless, sample-less, scratchless originals. Sure to please fans of the instrumental cuts from Check Your Head and Ill Communication and the cult hit compilation album made up largely of those tracks, The In Sound From Way Out!, The Mix-Up finds NYC's favorite sons drawing on one of their arsenal's primary strengths and pushing it into bold new directions.

This isn't their first instrumental album.......2007-07-25
People keep comparing this to their hip-hop albums, but you can't compare it. It's a totally different type of music. I agree partially with an earlier review ; if you like MMW or Galactic(Stanton Moore) then this album might not measure up, but this funky acid jazz style is what MMW and S. Moore do best. It's not what the B.B. do best. I give them a ton of credit for going out of the box and doing other things. In 1996 the B.B. made an album called "The In Sound From Way Out". It was all instrumental and it was VERY good! When I first heard it, I didn't believe it was the B.B. So before you criticize, remember these are hip-hops artist who decided to actually pick-up instruments and play them. Not use synthesizers and samples. I think it's a really good cd. True, it doesn't measure up entirely to your MMW records, John Scofield, or Galactic, but it is a good addition to your funk collection.
Pure Garbage.......2007-07-24
How can some artists always stay fresh with new sounds and others become washed-up? The only reason I give one star is because you can't give zero. This album makes for an expensive drink coaster.
No fresh sounds, nothing upbeat and very monotone. I guess when you have a reputation like Beastie Boys you can assume something good is going to be relesed. After 2 clunkers in a row that's no longer the case.
The name of the album should be called "Fill My Bank Account" since all they are doing is taking your money and retiring on it. These boys are a very long way from "Paul's Boutique" and "Check Your Head"...two masterpieces.
Zero stars!!!!!!!!!!
Wierd.......2007-07-22
I like the Beasty Boys but this is just to wierd for me. check out the new Taylor Hicks cd for good musik
The CD from a rap band with no words..........2007-07-16
The Beasties have done it again. This is the album a lot of fans wanted- after hearing tastes of the band's musicianship on songs included in previous albums, one can finally hear the funky stylings of what has been one of the most progressive and influential bands of the last 20 years. Casual fans may not get it- for them, I suggest using it as background music for other activities. In that setting, the hooks may draw you in, or, at worst, you create a non-obtrusive atmosphere of funk driven by vintage street cred.
Actually, There is a "Mix-Up" Here..........2007-07-16
...somebody replaced the new Beastie Boys disc with a 1960's cheesy lounge record!
At least that's what it sounds like to this Beastie fan. I've bought all of their albums, but after one listen to the "Mix-Up," I'm going to have to leave this one on the shelf. The "5 Burroughs" album wasn't perfect but it was a step in the right direction (from the bizarre "Hello Nasty"), but this new "all instrumental" album is a bore to listen to. I think that some people will really like it--perhaps I'm just missing their sense of "irony".

Key to the success of this prime-time teen soap opera has been a mix of contemporary rock and pop that musically embroiders the show's increasingly complex mix of hope, fear, and youthful angst with often melodramatic flair. This third volume of songs from the successful series continues in that tradition while, as the title suggests, exploring a little wider artistic range. "Don't Wait" by Dashboard Confessional and the Honorary Title's "Stay Away" immediately anchor the set with a familiar tone of urgency, while star Tyler Hilton offers up another expected sensitive acoustic ballad in "You'll Ask for Me." But elsewhere, the collection admirably pushes the envelope via such tasty, eclectic morsels as the infectious pop of the Kooks' "Naïve," Gym Class Heroes turning "Good Vibrations" into a stripped-down shuffle, and the effusive hip-hop-pop of Lupe Fiasco's "I Gotcha." But it's still a collection centered largely on the contemplative, indie spirit embodied by the Wreckers' gorgeous "Lay Me Down," Lucero's emotive dirge "Tell Me What It Takes," and the Constantines' similarly focused "Soon Enough." --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
For the first time in television history, a mixtape heard in an episode will become a soundtrack album. Containing hits from artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Dashboard Confessional and The Wreckers, The Road Trip is another innovative musical breakthrough for a series that continues to be an indie showcase.

Better than what I first thought.......2007-07-20
There are some pretty awesome songs on here but alot of them sound very similar. I'd only buy it if you're an avid fan of One Tree Hill
Perfect for the Road.......2007-06-14
I loved this disk from the first time I listened to it, but I had to know if it worked out on the road. I took a road trip from southern Kansas up to the NE part of the state playing this cd, and I fell in love all over again. Anybody who's gone thru Kansas knows what the landscape looks like, and it made the perfect backdrop to the music.
Hands down La Rocca's "Non-Believer," The Weepies "World Spins Madly On," and Band of Horses' "Funeral" are the best tracks on the album. Those songs alone are worth buying the cd for.
Awesomeness.......2007-06-10
It's a great CD! There's not a song I don't like. Tyler's new song is a must be hit. The Weepies are always a good addition.
That's what I like about the OTH soundtracks. They're not filled with "what's now" hot in the music scene, but rather songs that can be listened to over and over, because you're not going to always hear them on the radio.
the perfect follow up,hope there'll be a fourth..........2007-04-12
I admit,I love the show, but overall,it music and of couse it soundtracks, but I must say that some of the choices made for the track selection are a little too easy:
Don't wait : way to obvious choice but great though. The perfect song to start the CD with. 4,5/5
stay away : not the best from the band, but after listening to it several times you get used to it. 4/5
naive : good choice, siuts very well with the show itself, but not so good song. 3/5
the funeral : one of the highlight from the CD,great choice!....5/5
heartbeats : just the same as naive, but a good song. 3.5/5
you'll ask me : not his best by far and I must say that I get a little tired of him.
i gotcha : not the usual OTH tune but really great choice, second highlight. 5/5
good vibrations : way too much Citizen Cope vibes for me,but an OK song. 4/5
lay me down : third highlight, love the band and Michelle Branch. 5/5
soon enough : beautiful song but unnoticed, too bad. 3/5
he lays in the rein : fourth highlight, such a beautiful and lyrical song. 5/5
tell me what it takes : the same as soon enough, plus the song's not so good as for the band which is supposed to be one of Luca's favorite...2.5/5
just be simple : could have been a highlight but way too obvious and passe choice. 4.5/5
world spins madly on : love the band ad the song, fifth highlight. 5/5
non-believer : the perfect choice which was to be made.the sound from the great episode, song to live and die by,reminds me so much of Peyton. The sixth and last but not least highligh fom the CD. 5/5
chloe dancer/crowns of thorns : not my favorite at all but Jason Shwartzman made such a moving speech telling us why he chose the song that we have to at least like it. 3.5/5
If you love the show and the previous soundtrack just buy it,if not,buy it cause you'll find something you love on it.
Another Great Soundtrack.......2007-04-05
One Tree Hill has really done it again. If you are a fan of the first two soundtracks, you will undoubtedly love this one. The show does a tremendous job of using music to help tell a story, and this soundtrack features the perfect sampling of songs from several of the pivotal scenes this season. I love that OTH offers a showcase for a lot of up-and-coming artists, so for those looking for something a little different than what's out on mainstream radio, I highly recommend this CD.

Further proof that the 15-year-old male is the nexus of contemporary popular entertainment, this anthology of music from and "inspired by" the sequel to the earth-conquering Halo saga also showcases how capably the video game industry can trump even Hollywood's vaunted production values. The original synth-heavy underscore by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori is filled with enough brooding, mock-Goth atmospherics, and pulsing exotica of indeterminate ethnicity to give the Hans Zimmer stable a run for their money, while a slate of (mostly) worthy rock star guest turns give it a welcome edge. Legendary axe-slinger Steve Vai's sinewy riffing punches up the reworked main theme and "Never Surrender," while alt.metal contenders Breaking Benjamin serve up the suitably dramatic inspired-by cut "Blow Me Away." But it's Incubus' four-part "Odyssey" suite that's the centerpiece, bridging 1970s prog and modern rock with its moody aura and evocative musical dramatics. --Jerry McCulley

This CD stayed in my truck's CD player for months before getting tired of it. Enough said.
Great game - great music.......2007-01-10
My son wanted this Cd. I had never sat long enough to listen to the music when he played Halo, so I didn't have a clue what I was buying. He let me listen to some of the tracks once it arrived and I had to "borrow" it from him so I could download the cd onto my pc. Needless to say I bought volume 2 and the original Halo soundtrack cd as well. They may belong to my son, but I love these cds too!
Hug your pillows girls.......2006-08-06
THe only reason I am writing anything about this album is because it contains the Odyssey by Incubus, and its probably some of their best work and will go down as their most unnoticed. While the rest of your nerds are huggin your pillows at night thinking about your video games and the "gnarly instrumentals" on this album you sit there and bash Incubus' work. The first track by them, Follow, is not all that great however it was re-released on an additional cd with their Alive at Red Rocks DVD and it sounds sooooooo much better on that cd (with some real lyrics) But after listening to the Odyssey I was really hoping this to be a new direction for Incubus, a more proggressive/conceptual sound. Whether this is the direction they go on with their new album is yet to be heard. Its a shame that this work will go unnoticed, and the only reason it will be that way because a bunch of losers decide to try and impress people with (what they think) is a sense of music just because its of a classical nature. Yes, the rest of the music on the album is amazing, and I give big ups to its composition, but come on people, show some love to good music when its presented to your faces.
best video game soundtrack ever........2006-08-03
i understand that many people are a bit angry with breaking benjamin and hoobastank being in here. i'm not particularly happy myself with the last track, but i think contemporary music is appropriate here, albeit lyrics may not be the greatest form of expressing the mysterious feeling behind everything. i think o'donnel and salvatori have what it takes to compose a score of music, but it's not a score, it's a soundtrack. i found that if you don't like them you can just skip them. the second to last track is a great way to end the soundtrack.
classical music listeners stop complaining.......2006-05-10
The worst part of this album was songs with lyrics (breaking benjamin, techno, hoobastank)...i dont understand then why people are upset with the incubus - follow has one word the whole song (two if you count "yeah") and their instrumental songs are brilliant, floyd-esque at times. for those of you reading others criticizing this album, ignore them, ignore the three bad songs on this album, and purchase it and enjoy it.

Smallville Volume 1.......2006-03-16
Out of the two soundtracks, this one is the best. The mixture of songs has the feel of the show. There are about 5 or 6 songs that are the best. I was a little disapointed by the lack of extras in the inset, but if you have the boxsets, then this id not a major thing.

Music for yoga is such a cliché that you could slap that moniker on a Barry Manilow CD and have it sold as a soundtrack for Downward Facing Dog pose. Yoga music has become a made-to-order commodity, and rarely attains the level of art. The title Music for Yoga and Other Joys doesn't bode well, but then, it has Jai Uttal, a veteran of world fusion going back 15 years and a devotee of kirtan singing teaming up with multi-instrumentalist Ben Leinbach for a series of extended improvisations. Leinbach creates a shifting back drop of chilled, Indian-derived grooves and textures like liquid mercury dipped in a fractal swirl. It's a perfect modal backdrop for Uttal, who improvises freely on an Indian stringed instrument called the dotar, electric guitar, and even banjo. Pieces like the 26-minute "Govinda" extend in a free fall until a rhythm loop drops in. Uttal swaps to a fuzzed out electric guitar solo that eventually merges into an improvised kirtan, his voice coiling in note-bending spirals like soul singing from the east. This may be music for yoga, but it's the other joys that will keep you coming back. --John Diliberto

I love Jai Uttal's kirtan. There so much shakti that it is a great support for my asana. It supports full fucus and a joyful experience in my asana. Tears come to my eyes when I feel the bhakti expressed though this kirtan!
I feel the joy.......2007-02-09
This is a wonderfull yoga cd. Jai has a beautiful haunting voice and the five songs progress perfectly to fit your asanas. I look forward to buying more of his cds

Jai Uttal along with Krishna Das present music to balance the world.Any person remotely aligned with world peace / yoga or betterment of the world will relate to the mystical chants and attitude expressed here. This album should be compulsory for all liked minds.Wonderful !
Great Massage CD.......2006-12-12
I am a massage therapist and use this CD almost exclusively as background music for my sessions. I especially like the fact that it has a subtle rhytmic pulse almost throughout (rather than the airy/tinkly/spacey feel of a lot of massage music). I also like Uttal's chanting and judicious use of unexpected instruments like electric guitar. And above all, this music really adds to my clients' massage experiences. (Now what to do with all those other CD's?)

With the same alternative-pop theme as the first Smallville collection, this second disc once again reveals just how much the show integrates music into its plot lines and overall feel. The track list includes familiar songs such as the All American Rejects' "Dirty Little Secret," and Depeche Mode's newest hit "Precious," but there are also a few surprises. The Alan Moulder remix of the Dandy Warhols' "All The Money Or Simple Life Honey" is a booty-shaking blast, while the rock-meets-goth cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" courtesy of HIM is an amusingly amped-up new take on the older tune. Actress-songstress Minnie Driver offers her light jazz take on Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" (which also appeared on her debut disc), and Lifehouse delivers their touching version of "You and Me," while Josh Kelley's "Almost Honest" could be the soundtrack to anybody's breakup or breakdown. It's true that many of these songs have been previously released, but Smallville fans are a devoted bunch who will likely appreciate being able to buy their favorite tracks on one disc. --Denise Sheppard

Metropolis Mix.......2007-06-01
I loved the Talon Mix (Smallville Vol One), so I thought this would be another great CD. I was disappointed. It has about 4 songs that are good. But everything else is pretty dull. There's tons of great music throughout the seasons of Smallville. Hopefully the next Volume will be better.
Super Metropolis.......2007-05-24
I enjoy listening to this CD as it reminds me of a TV series that I particularly like & the music has been an integral part of that enjoyment.
Smallville Musical Wonders.......2007-05-23
The second volume of hits added to the Smallville soundtrack is quite a delight!
Whether you like the smooth rhythm of Depeche Mode rendering "Precious", the deeply romantic "You and Me" from Lifehouse, the bouncing fun of The All-American Rejects in "Dirty Little Secret" or the soulful "Hungry Heart" from Minnie Driver, this soundtrack has it all and more!
Don't miss it!
Love IT.......2007-05-14
This is a great soundtrack even if you are not a Smallville fan (but I am).
Another Winning Smallville Soundtrack.......2007-04-11
This soundtrack contains many different styles of music and all are worth-while. The only song I didn't like was Superman by Stereophonics, but the rest of the tracks, and especially the first two, certainly make up for it. I recommend this soundtrack for any Smallville fan, or for anyone who likes good music.

Customer Reviews:
Music was great but came to me damaged from Amazon.......2007-05-29
The actual CD is great, some of the best from ATB i've ever heard, a little poppy but still good...I was dissapointed with how it arrived from Amazon though. The CD wont even work in one of my CD players, had to upload it to my computer and make new ones for it to work, but now there's a break in between the tracks so so much for hearing a good mix...anyway take your chances, maybe I just got the one damaged one....
Nice trance collection!.......2007-05-21
Together with Armin's State of Trance 2006 and Thrillseekers' Nightmusic, it's the most perfect trance collection of the last 5 years.
Way to go ATB!
Made me pay attention to ATB.......2007-05-16
Absolutely the best mix of 2006. Both discs, this is what trance mixes should sound like. No filler tracks at all, just perfectly selected.
A Mish Mash of bland mixes!!!.......2007-05-07
Definately not even close the In the Mix 2 in terms of memorable tracks or good mixing. The album simply lacks life and goes weaker and weaker from CD 1 to CD 2. Not a single track stands out making this album good for nothing other than background music when nothing else is at hand. A real disappointment.
One of the best mixes ive ever heard.......2007-04-22
This double CD set is worth its price in gold as far as im concerned. I bought this mix, due in part, to the reviews ive seen here on amazon. Right off the top of my head I cant think of any "fillers" in this one. Yeah, some tracks are better then others, but even the "so so" tracks are above average. The tracks that really stand out to me at the moment are "Servant of Justice" "Summer Rain" "Neno Itome" and "Vital Spark" I also find it quite refreshing to be able to catch reviews of this kind of musical genre from other fellow fans. I know some of the reviewers here spend big bucks on these kinds of releases. Unfortunately, I dont make a ton of doe, so I cant afford the luxery of being able to casually buy every new House/Trance/Jungle release that hits the market. This is why I come to sites like amazon. To see what other fans of these genres have to say. That with the addition of track samples help me make my purchasing decisions in the end. Thanks everybody!

Just like the Fox TV show it's taken from, Music from the O.C.: Mix 1 is studded with moments of subtle exceptionality until the end, when things get really good. Hard as it is to discount the haunting beauty of Joseph Arthur's "Honey and the Moon," the crispness of Spoon's spunky, handclap- and piano-spiked "The Way We Get By," and the hushed cool of Jem's bouncy "It's Just a Ride," this CD heats to its steamiest in the final four tracks. The Dandy Warhols cut through the Beatlesque rapture brought on by the 88s' "How Good it Can Be" with the snarky, self-conscious pop of "We Used to Be Friends"; William Orbit helps Finley Quaye free himself from the feel-good constraints of reggae on the dark, obsession-themed "Dice"; Alexi Murdoch drags the mood down farther still with the sung poetry of "Orange Sky"; and Phantom Planet ends things on a satisfying but quizzically simple note with "California," the show's theme song. Whether The O.C.'s target audience--teenagers--matches the disc's may be beside the point: Because Mix 1 is enhanced with scenes from the show, computer-equipped diehards who prefer their pop fluffier, with less indie attitude, will dig the vibe despite themselves. -Tammy La Gorce
Album Description
One of the most innovative soundtrack album series ever created launches with Music From The O.C. Mix 1. Featuring hip, recent, largely indie rock tracks heard on the FOX runaway hit sensation "The O.C.," the album is the first of several (at least one each 2004 quarter) designed to appeal to the 9 million to 11 million mainly teen and young adult fans who watch the drama each Wednesday night. The hottest show on TV with the hottest music on TV now has its own album series.
Customer Reviews:
season one - worthwhile.......2006-12-12
For all of the seasons i've listened to, and i admit, i'm not a big fan of the show but rather, a music critic and write a music column, i found this season's list to be the most interesting. Which is NOT to say that there are not other songs to be found on other seasons (so please, scope them out, because songs like "If You Leave" is truly worthwhile).
Still, you can't beat the list here - there is so much good, and so much that, at the time (and this is important to remember) was new (or new to the public; yes, you may have known it, just as i may have known it but i would guess that most viewers did not know Jet or Propellerheads by then, so you have to credit the OC with bringing these groups to the forefront).
It's hard. One feels torn about that always - It reminds me of when I liked the Replacements and nobody else did or even knew them and then the Pleased to Meet Me album came out and the song "Alex Chilton" and suddenly they were HUGE and everybody was a Replacements fan and I felt like, "Hey, i've been here all along...!"
That is a wholly selfish view; we should want bands we like to be successful and to do well. It's not selling out, no more than i think Dylan is selling out by doing IPod commercials. Groups, like any other worker or industry, have to look at the bottomline. They never claimed NOT to be commercial, and that's key. I don't see this as selling out then on their part, as some would, but as a smart and strategic career move for the many people who do watch the OC, and while i can't say that i've ever seen a single episode, it's not because i don't like the show (how could i judge? i've never seen!) it's that i know the music already and can judge on the basis of that - so the OC may have been a bit behind the times but hey, they caught up and the compilations are among the best out there for any television series.
Just my two cents for what it's worth. I'd buy this album. I did. It's worth it. Almost every song is good... and check out the other OC albums as well... there is much to be found.
Thanks for listening,
sadi ranson-polizzotti
A Great Change.......2006-08-01
This is an excellent CD and the best of the OC soundtracks. The music is all very good and has an upbeat optismtic feel to it. The songs on this CD aren't ones you hear everyday played on the radio over and over. This is a refreshing collection of excellent music that anyone can enjoy, whether you are a fan of the show or not!
very happy.......2006-01-25
I love the OC and one of the reasons I do is because of all the music in it. All of the songs are so catchy and I end up singing them the whole day. In the first season, I watch the Music Guide hoping to find a song I like and usually I do...until the soundtrack came out. I bought it immediantly and now I listen to it every day. It has all of my favorite songs from the OC on it, but I wish they included the songs "out of Control" by the Chemical Brothers (its from the escape when marissa catches luke with holly) and also the song "into dust" when ryan is holding marissa in his arms at the end of the escape. Other than that, this album is definately worth buying!
Music from the O.C. Mix 1.......2005-11-03
I love this CD! No matter who you are or what your background is, even if you've never even watched the O.C. (unheard of, but possible) you will fall head over heals in love with the soundtrack. Each song, from artists like the Dandy Warhols and Jem, will impress you over and over again. This CD is a must-have for anyone who likes alt-rock type music. Overall, this CD is worth quadruple what you paid for it!

A hip hop classic. I've been listening to this since high school and it's still as tight as Illmatic. Three billion thumbs up.

It's impossible to listen to Music From the O.C. Mix 2 without wondering what the 16 acts represented think of being associated with the show. These, after all, are largely the kind of too-cool-for-school indie bands--Nada Surf, Death Cab for Cutie, Eels, Interpol--you'd normally expect to run screaming from anything so heavily soaked in mainstream reek. Credit the show's exceptional music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, then, with rounding them up and wrangling them into contributing, and also for choosing her selections carefully. More than a collection that would slip effortlessly into any hipster's car CD player for its left of the dial leanings, 2 showcases many of these emerging bands' best songs yet: The Thrills' "Big Sur" is a sun-soaked slice of pop heaven, "Maybe I'm Amazed" makes elegant use of a cover to capture the dreaminess of the darkly talented Jem, and "You Got Me All Wrong," by Dios Malos, is maybe the most ravishing rainy day rock song ever written. As with the first O.C. mix, 2 is enhanced with scenes from the show. Pop it into your computer and hum along as the drama unfolds; if anyone catches you, tell them it's the coolness of the music you're captivated by. -Tammy La Gorce
Album Description
The OC, the phenomenally successful Fox Television series has pioneered the creative use of storytelling through song and, in the process, become a showcase for some of the most innovative and original artists in music. Music From The OC Mix 2 follows the inaugural release of Mix 1 which debuted earlier this year to critical and popular acclaim. The compilation features music from the second half of the first and early episodes of the second season and boasts three exclusive tracks: Jem's cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Nada Surf's cover of OMD's "If You Leave," both recorded specifically for the series, plus The Walkman's live version of "Little House of Savages." Mix 2 highlights the program's trend-setting approach to music with songs from an extraordinary variety of new and emerging artists including Interpol, The Killers, Death Cab For Cutie and more.

The OC always showcases great bands. And their mix cd is a lot of great music from wonderful bands. Keep up the good work
Good choices for the Second OC Soundtrack/Mix........2006-05-07
THE OC MIX 2.
By now, I'm sure most are aware you can usually count on The OC Soundtracks to contain some pretty good indie music. This is a good soundtrack to pick up if you're a fan of indie, or even if you're just a fan of the show and you enjoyed the music throughout the season. Pick it up, It's a good decision.
SATURDAY MORNING - Good track by the Eels. This number gives a good start to the entire soundtrack. Definitely a song that will make you want to get up and dance.
HELLO SUNSHINE - One of the wider known tracks on the soundtrack. Some might think its been played too much, but I think a great song and I'm glad they put it on here.
SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT - Who doesn't love the Killers by now? Another great track from their album, Hot Fuss.
A LACK OF COLOR - I knew of Death Cab long before the OC..But I think to some people, this show definitely gave them exposure to this marvelous band. A good song choice by them as well.
SPECIALIST - This is not one of the better Interpol tracks.
SOMETHING PRETTY - I think this is one of those "most remembered" songs played on the show.
YOU GOT ME ALL WRONG - Definitely a favorite to most on this album. Its one of those songs you never get tired of hearing on repeat.
IF YOU LEAVE - Remake from the 80s song we all know and love. This was a pretty decent remake, but I think most would still prefer the older version.
BIG SUR - The Thrills! A marvelous band. Definitely one of the most fun songs on the entire CD.
LITTLE HOUSE OF SAVAGES - The Walkmen. This song is very reminiscent of late 80s music.
TROUBLE SLEEPING - Personally, my favorite on the entire soundtrack. You'll catch yourself smiling and thinking of that 'certain' person in your life.
SO SWEET - Another one of the better tracks on this CD. A rock song with a slight folk influence.
POPULAR MECHANICS FOR LOVERS - A definite folk song. I love it. Beulah is another great band to check out if you've grown into this genre of music.
WALNUT TREE - This song doesn't really stick out on the soundtrack. It's pretty forgettable.
MAYBE I'M AMAZED - Another remake by a beautiful voice, Jem. Of course once again, most of us will probably prefer McCartneys version, but you've got to admit, she did a good job.
EASTERN GLOW - A pretty calm, peaceful song. One of those songs best to lay in bed and listen to.
best soundtrack ever!!.......2005-11-02
i've never even watched the o.c., but when i saw some of the artists that were on the album i bought it, and i was SO glad afterwards. this soundtrack is amazing, one of my favorite CD's, and even though i dont watch the show, O.C. soundtracks ROCK!!
Best mix.......2005-09-24
If you're a fan of the OC, or at least the music from the OC, then this is a great buy. I've now got 1, 2 & 4 and i rate this one the highest. It's a fantastic mix and there's really no need to change CD on the car stereo!
Even better than the first mix!.......2005-08-27
This second mix features some great songs, mostly from the second-half of season one. They're all played during key moments on the show.It perfectly captures that relaxing SoCal atmosphere."Saturday morning" is a rocking song!I also LOVE "A lack of color" and "If you leave",but my personal favorite is "Something pretty" by Patrick Park.

Customer Reviews:
The OC = Over Completely.......2007-07-24
Well the OC is done and gone, but I actually purchased this final tome in the OC soundtrack lineup when it first came out in December 06. As the show's quality declined, I have to say, so did its integration of music. While the first two seasons had fabulous new artists constantly introduced - and in many cases reused - the show's tunes in the latter seasons, particularly S4, fell victim to the desire for elevator, tuneless, tracks rather than melodic and memorable musical screen moments. As such, a lot of songs on this album have a sort of limp feel to them...plenty are skippable, few are memorable, and they don't really depart in some cases from their originals.
Which leads me to the schtick of this album...the songs are all covers of actual songs - I believe most (if not all) of the original songs were at one point aired on the OC, as were the covers of them. I've done my best to try and identify where, because in all fairness, it's a bit easier than past soundtracks (the 5th springs to mind) to place where you heard the songs this time.
Goldspot's cover of Modest Mouse's "Float On" is one of the most enjoyable and replayable tunes - and played during a montage of Katelin & Julie Cooper battling it out on the tennis courts. I'm guessing the original played during MM's appearance at the Bait Shop S2.
Rock Kills Kid's cover of "I Turn My Camera On" is a ridiculously close cover of the original...no clue when either version was aired. Lady Sovereign's "Pretty Vacant" Sex Pistols take is pretty much nothing like the original. I think they used these during party scenes...
I actually kind of dig the mellow version of the show's title song "California" although this is the third time the song has appeared on an OC soundtrack (the 5th features a redux version by Phantom Planet). This song replaced the credits in the S4 Chrismakkuh ep. Ditto to enjoying Pinback's "Wasted" although it like "I Turn My Camera On" comes across very monotone after a few listens. The original Wasted by Black Flag aired during Seth's stoner 'phase' in S3.
Probably my fave song on the album aside from Goldspot's cover is John Paul White's "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", a really sweet cover of an originally quite schmultzy tune. No idea when either version aired on the show, and I'm sorry I missed it in the case of the cover version.
Although I'm usually a big fan of Rogue Wave (their contribution to the 5th album is fab) their song "Debaser" rings very familiar - partially because it features the same monotone + instrument formula found in "Camera" and "Wasted". No real memory of when either version of the song aired sadly. I do heart the Pixies though.
Syd Matters cover of "Hello Sunshine" is another fave of mine. It's just so eclectic and different sounding - just wait till the final couple of choruses for the background chords...gorgeous. The original tune has a lot of meaning for Seth/Summer - as per it played when they first hooked up, and the cover I believe played during some of Seth & Summer's parting moments in the latter half of S4.
I also dug the cover of the Killers "Smile Like You Mean It", which also originally appeared on the second soundtrack with "Hello Sunshine". The original tune came on during the Killers Bait Shop concert. Although the alien sound effects in the chorus of this version aren't to my liking, I suppose the airing of the tune during the kids desert alien road trip was suitable, and overall it's an enjoyable cover.
"Come Into Our Room" has never been a song I've liked - it aired during the Oliver stuff in S1, and the cover is a sloppy steal rather than a true cover. Passed over nearly every time I listen to this disc. I'm also not a massive fan of "The End's Not Near" despite the fact it was the title of the final ep of the series. I just don't like the vocals on this, and otherwise it again sounds like a sloppy ripoff of the original, or at least a bad ripoff of the Smiths.
Finally the album closes out with the epic 9 minute version of Mazzy Star's "Into Dust" as played by Ashtar Command. The song of course originally aired several times in the Marissa/Ryan relationship, most notably in the first episode when he carries her in the house, and the last episode of the S1 'summer season' in Tijuana when Ryan carries Marissa down the alley. I believe this cover also aired during the Chrismakkah ep in S4. Although I think Ashtar Command gets a bit carried away with themselves and loses some of the vulnerability of the original, this is a nice mellow cap-off to the cd.
Overall this album is a mixture of a couple of solid songs (1, 6, 8, 9), a few soundalikes that would make good background tunes for a TV show like the OC (2, 5, 7), a couple of blah covers (3, 10, 11), and a couple of worthy covers of key OC-lore songs (4, 12). It's a good addition to people who own the rest of the series, but otherwise not really worthy of its predecessors.
great show and great songs.......2007-06-14
love every song on here and when im going through my oc withdrawal i pop this cd in and i still make believe the show is on the air.
O.C soundtracks,please don't leave us this way........2007-04-17
As the 1,2 and 4 mixes were pure perfection (even the not so favorite ones were end up loved) the 3,5 and now 6 are just, what the hell is going on here?! mixes.I mean, the Christmukkah mix was nice but the should have put more songs! (9,are you kidding me?!)and the most annoying thing of all things is that only 3 or 4 were actually heard on the show (it's an O.C mix not some inspired by crap!).Then we have the mix 5,with songs all taken from the show but again, too much songs from season 2 which already had an entire CD and only some notable songs from season 3.The most crappy thing of all the crappiest thing in the O.C story is that they didn't made a damn season 3 soundtrack as the show was at his best with it music (SUFJAN STEVENS,CALLA,RADIOHEAD,JOSE GONZALEZ,MAGNET,ORENDA FINK,BETTIE SERVEERT,IMOGEN HEAP,do I need to continue?!).And now we have a season 4 soundtrack which is the last one with some songs that weren't even heard on the show!.The tried to do it original by making a cover CD but they did wrong cause before that the O.C soundtrack continuity was broke because of the missing of a season 3 soundtrack.I mean it was logical that we had a season 3 mix then a season 3+4 mix and at the end a season 4 mix to say goodbye in a proper way due to the high quality of the show. But no they didn't even respected that and screwed everything up.Anyway, there are some good and bad tracks so buy it if you want and don't if you're not sure.
Really pretty good.......2007-03-11
This actually my second favorite O.C. mix after 1. I ended up liking some of these covers more than the originals. My favorite is Can't Get It Out Of My Head, other goods ones are I Turn My CAmera On, Into Dust and Float On.
As I watch it go down in flames.......2007-02-17
This cd is nothing more than the same songs that drew me to the O.C. mixes back in season 1 and 2, just redone not as well by less than talented artists. Which ironically strongly resembles the shows plot line these days.
