4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-04-26

I think the three best songs on this CD are worth the whole price alone. I have always really liked these songs. Well done, maybe a little silly but just great listening music. A little different than some music. Please listen to the samples first if you're not familiar with this group. "Words", "Destination Unknown", and "Hello, I Love You" are my favorite three.

5 out of 5 stars Some of the best new wave music ever made........2007-01-27

Missing Persons was a first rate new wave band. Their songs were smart, energetic, and fun. What else could anyone ask for in a new wave band?

While it's a shame that their album "Spring Session M" is not currently in print on CD, this "Best Of" CD has a healthy dose of songs from that album, as well as some other excellent songs that they did.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Of Missing Pearsons.......2006-11-05

This CD is exactly the music I would expect to find on this piece of plastic that I was made aware of through KFI 640 AM radio while reviewing the bumper music played on late night radio.
All the music played exactly as I expected it to. It couldn't have been more of what it was supposed to be. It is what it is.
I might add that it is good to have a place where hard to find music might be found for sale.

5 out of 5 stars still one of the best .........2006-06-10

This band should have produced more music for the masses following their last release and and left too soon ..one hit away from that commercial breakthrough that would have truly made them a household name. This is one of the best 'Greatest Hits' cds out there ..with the 2 obvious omissions being 'Noticeable one' (never released as a single but as a video) and 'Surrender your heart' (SYH is included in the EMI music release Missing Persons: 10 best series) All the hits are here .. 'Words' introduced the band (and Dale Bozzio) to the world, 'Destination Unknown' in all its synthesized glory will forever remain their signature song. My definitive 80s years will be forever linked to this great band. 2 of the 4 single releases from Rhyme and Reason are included, 'Right now' will catch you immediately with its hook, reel you in and have you reminisching about that silent crush that may or may not have gotten away. The inclusion of 'Color in your life' and 'No secrets' (2 of the best non singles) from their final album is the proverbial icing on the cake; it offered a new sound (and look) and most assuredly left you wondering what 'could have been' had the band worked out their differences and remained together for a least 3 more albums. The songs stand the test of time even to this day, Terry Bozzios drumming is incomparable to anyone else on the planet; Dale will remain the new wave icon of the 80s for many years to come. This cd is the best repersentation of the band over 4 albums; str8 forward rock, new wave bliss, drum machine magic, and more. Hit the road, put the top down, put on your sunglasses, turn up the volume and relive the 80s all over again ..

5 out of 5 stars Essential bluegrass from Knopfler and pals.......2007-05-31

The Notting Hillbillies (four pals from England: Mark Knopfler, Guy Fletcher, Steve Phillips and Brendan Croker) was a bluegrass band formed in the late 1980s. In 1990 they released Missing...Presumed Having a Good Time, their first and last album. That fact alone is a shame because Missing is just so good.

The track list is a mixture of old, old bluegrass/blues numbers and original compositions written by the band members - Knopfler's signature guitar work is heard clearly on several of the tracks, especially the mournful "Feel Like Going Home" finale. What makes this CD so special is the unpretentious mood and feel that you get from the songs - it's the perfect album for just relaxing and having a good, easy time.

The liner booklet includes lyrics for each song, and a photo of each band member, and if my memory serves me, I think the lyrics are written down pretty correctly for each song.

It is difficult to pick a favourite song, but the real stand-outs are the atmospheric "Railroad Worksong," bluesy "Your Own Sweet Way" (Knopfler's original), "Will You Miss Me," calypso pastiche "One Way Gal," the wonderful "Weapon of Prayer" and of course the weepy "Feel Like Going Home."

You won't find banjos or fiddles, but you will find plenty of heart and just simply good music. The word for this album is "laid back." It's one of those few CDs that rank on my essentials list, and I would recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Notting Hill Billies review.......2007-03-26

This is an outstanding piece of work for Mark Knopfler as just a member of a band. It is well out of the MTV era, which to me was pathetic attempt at creating music. The supporting cast on the disc
"Missing...Presumed having a good time" is excellent. If you are looking for some MTV [....] then this disc is not for you, if you want an eclectic mix of, rock-a-billy, country, folk, and swing, then purchase this disc you will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Notting Hillbillies.......2007-01-12

Great old album. One of my favorites for long trips in a car. It reminds me of old country radio when I was young. Any fan of Mark Knopfler should enjoy it.

3 out of 5 stars A rare contrarian view.................2006-08-11

I had a bit more trouble enjoying this than did the other reviewers, I guess. Being contemporaneous with the Chet Atkins "Neck and Neck" recordings, the country influence is very clear in this work. Of course, the name of the band tips us off to this. NOTHING wrong with that at all, in itself, my problem lies in the pace. On too many songs, the tempo is slow, along the lines of dreamy country a la Eddy Arnold/Floyd Cramer/Pete Drake etc. Even the opening track "Railroad Worksong" is performed much more slowly than the thumping treatment the song usually receives. I kept waiting for the trademark Knopfler soaring guitar licks to waft me away, but they seldom came. And Brendan Croker is no slouch either - I love his own works with his bands - but here again I was seldom transported. The album was a good idea, a sort of "country Traveling Wilburys," but needed to pick up the pace more often.

5 out of 5 stars Missed...a real good time........2006-06-07

Sixteen years after its release, on the recommendation of a friend, I ordered "Missing...presumed having a good time." As promised by other reviewers, it is a total delight, akin to discovering J.J. Cale's "Naturally" decades ago. Understated tight guitar, the presence of pedal steel, dobro, the occasional accordion or marimba and swelling of strings in the background, the traded-off vocals and resurrection of traditional gems keep this one delivering cut after cut. A 1951 Louvin Brothers-penned "Weapon of Prayer" renders Neil Young's, Natalie Maine's, Bruce Springsteen's and Billie Joe Armstrong's war protests histrionic by comparison. This CD is richly rewarding. A totally safe gamble for you to make.

John Prine was a battle-scarred veteran of the '70s "new Dylan" club and a superb craftsman whose modest commercial success found him without a major label deal in the '80s. Prine's solution was to move to Nashville and roll his own, setting up the tiny Oh Boy imprint and making records he wanted to hear, a survival game that paid off handsomely with this 1991 set, produced by Heartbreaker bassist Howie Epstein and boasting cameos from Phil Everly, Divinyls' Christina Amphlett, Tom Petty, old pal Bonnie Raitt, and another "new Dylan" alum, Bruce Springsteen. But it's Prine himself who holds your attention here, with his reliably fine songs mixing droll, dead-on narratives of recognizable Everymen, sweetly goofy parables, and unvarnished love songs that his craggy drawl inhabits with touching authority. --Sam Sutherland

This is one fantastic recording! A must-have for any J.P. fan or lover of great folk music. God Bless you John and thanks for all the good times!!!

5 out of 5 stars so far from the valley of the unconcerned.......2007-03-07

I am listening to John Prine's CD `The Missing Years' while waiting for my brown rice spinach pilaf to cook for lunch, Tuesday, March 6, 2007. The words of the songs are printed inside the CD case, but you won't get that from me. I have printed words and chords for entire John Prine albums from the internet, with three or four songs per page. There are plenty of words in a song like `It's A Big Old Goofy World,' but it has been years since I tried to memorize the words so I could sing a song the way it would be performed. Now I'm more impressed by words that jump out at me, like the lines in `The Sins of Memphisto':
Sally used to play with her hula hoops
Now she tells her problems to therapy groups
Grampa's on the front lawn staring at a rake
wondering if his marriage was a terrible mistake
I'm sitting on the front steps drinking Orange Crush
Wondering if it's possible for me to still blush
UH HUH OH YEAH.
I have plenty of favorite people playing on this CD: David Lindley, Howie Epstein, Benmont Tench, and Mike Campbell. Four of the names for the people singing background vocals are well known. `Jesus the Missing Years' is the song which shows the greatest imagination, but `Daddy's Little Pumpkin' has the most "fire burning, burning right behind your eyes" kind of sense. There is a great blues song on this CD, `Great Rain' written by John Prine and Mike Campbell, which is something I never expected from John Prine, which has enough greatness to easily picture:
I thought I heard you calling my name
I was standing by the river
talking to a young Mark Twain.

5 out of 5 stars One of my two favorite Prine recordings..........2006-04-11

This is one of my favorite Prine releases, the other being Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings. If you are a long time Prine fan, this is a very nice additon to your collection, if you are new to JP, it is a nice place to start. The best cuts in my opinion are:

Picture Show
Sins of Memphisto
Everybody Feels Like You
Unlonely
Take a Look at My Heart

The other cuts are ok, however I am not as taken with them as I am with the ones listed.

Sins of Memphisto has to be one of my favs, the lyrics are nonsensical and thats what makes the song what it is. Kind of like American Pie, you keep listening, trying to figure out something that can't be figured out.

You won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Magic.......2005-12-01

Ever get in a rut where you don't know what to listen to? I can always find my way back to my music roots listening to this CD. Every song is magical and makes you feel like you're sitting there next to John while he tells stories. Don't miss this one. It is a must have.

4 out of 5 stars There are some great songs here........2005-10-11

This is the only John Prine album I've ever really listened to, but it's a good testament to his abilities as a songwriter and musician, and a good advertisement to make a person want to hear his other work.
"The Sins of Memphisto" is a terrific, upbeat song about growing old and gaining regrets.
"Unlonely" and "You Got Gold" are happy, hopeful, beautiful love songs.
And "All the Best" is a slightly bitter well-wishing to an old flame, and may be the album's best track.
"I wish you love
And happiness.
I guess I wish
You all the best.
I wish you don't
Do like I do
And ever fall in love
With someone like you."
All of the songs tell stories (though some are cryptic), and almost all of them are good. Some I could take or leave. Overall though, this is a good collection of songs, and John Prine's voice and the songs and arrangements are all very worth listening to, and all worth getting to know.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2006-08-19

I like the music, but the sound quality is terrible. I bought this CD because it was released in 2003, but there is ZERO improvement in sound quality from previous older tracks.

2 out of 5 stars Enough with the damn compilations!.......2005-06-11

First of all I like Vangelis very much. However I have had it with the way that his music is being released. We are consistently given compilation releases (usually of the same tracks that are on other releases). WHAT IS THE POINT????!!
All the more frustrating is that Vangelis has a ton of unreleased music that many fans like myself have been after for years. Sorry the bootlegs on Ebay just don't cut it.
Where's an official release of "Cavafy", "The Bounty", "Francesco", and "Bitter Moon". Where is all the still unreleased music from "1492", "Blade Runner", "Antarctica" and "Chariots of fire", yes he released soundtracks for these films but they were sadly lacking.
Unfortunately we will probably have to wait for Vangelis to demise before we ever get these tracks, if even then.

4 out of 5 stars worth buying, has seven good Vangelis songs.......2005-05-25

Some may complain that this is not a definitive Vangelis CD. Nope, it is far from being that, but it has seven good songs on it that make it worth purchasing for less than $20. Those seven good songs are: Hymne, Alpha, Chariots of Fire, Missing, Pulsar, Petite Fille de la Mer, and L'enfant. Of course, those are just my personal favorites.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview of Vangelis' Best Known Songs.......2004-06-10

It's hard to keep track of the number of compilations of Vangelis. Off the top of my head, I can think of "The Best of", "Greatest Hits", "Themes", "Portraits", and "Reprise". But they never got it right, something was always off, or one period or another of his career was not covered. Now comes "Oddisey: The Definitive Collection". While it may be pushing your luck to proclaim anything as a Vangelis "definitive" compilation", given his prolific output over the years, I am here nevertheless to tell you that this compilation is as good as it will get.

"Oddisey: The Definitive Collection" (18 tracks, 78 min.) in my opinion truly does compile all of Vangelis' best know tracks and greatest hits. Most of the tracks on here will sound immediately familiar, many because they are movie themes (Chariots of Fire being the most famous of course, but also The Missing, Blade Runner, thankfully containing both the beginning and end titles, Mutiny on the Bounty, and others), and other that became well known in commercials (Hymne, L'Enfant, among others). There can be no denying the creativity and talents of Vangelis. There are 2 bonus tracks, "I'll Find My Way Home" and "State of Independence", the 2 best known tracks of Jon & Vangelis, a nice touch to the album.

I share my frustration with other reviewers here that there is tons of great Vangelis music out there that remains unreleased. To be sure, Vangelis deserves a box-treatment of rare and unreleased tracks. But if you are looking for a single-disk overview of his best known songs, look no further: "Oddisey" is it. Released in Fall, 2003, it is a nice way to commemorate Vangelis turning 60 (say it ain't so!).

4 out of 5 stars Live as It Gets.......2003-04-17

For both fans of Paul Brady and those of traditional Irish music, "The Liberty Tapes" is a delightful live set. Recorded in July 1978 to celebrate the release of Paul's "Welcome Here Kind Stranger" album, the set has a vibrant, fun feel. Although not recorded on professional-quality tape, it is remarkably clear and fresh in sound, although there is a bit of hiss in the quieter moments.

"Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore" is a gorgeous melody with Andy Irvine's mandolin played like a sprite in dance. "I Am a Youth That's Inclined to Ramble" is a soft lament with Donal Lunny's plaintive bouzouki. "The Creel/Out the Door & Over the Wall" is a bright lighthearted lark about a lad getting a bit of romance. "Mary & the Soldier" is a pretty ballad with Paul's beautiful acoustic guitar and resonant voice. Paul gives "Jackson & Jane" the vibrant Irish trill in his voice on this pretty ballad. "Lakes of Pontchatrain" is an emotional wail, well done. Paddy Glackin's fiddle will set your toe to tapping on the pretty jig "Crooked Road to Dublin." The CD concludes with "Arthur McBride & the Sergeant," a pretty ballad. You can't come to this recording expecting the perfection of a studio release. It was not recorded with release in mind. It makes up in charm & fun the minor technical deficiencies. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!.......2002-11-12

Fans of Paul's early gems on Mulligan will find this to be a revelation -- my favourite release of the last five years. Brill!

5 out of 5 stars A lost Celtic folk gem.......2002-06-13

Longtime fans who have dispaired of Irish folk legend Paul Brady ever returning to his trad roots can at least take heart in the release of these classic concert recordings made in 1978, celebrating the release of his first solo album, the traditionally-oriented "Welcome Here, Kind Stranger." It's a lovely set, with warm, sympathetic backing by the likes of Noel Hill, Matt Molloy and Donal Lunney. Brady was in fine form, with that beautiful, lilting voice of his. It's definitely worth tracking down a copy of this little gem!

Impressively, the band is still among the Top 30 acts consistently being played on country radio today. This is a definite testament of their ability to write and deliver a hit song that touches the heart of a listener like no one else. The band is back and better than ever, with a renewed energy and excitement to make more of the music that fans nationwide came to love and respect during the group's early days.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome Back.......2007-07-01

This is the original line-up of LT, only fewer. Porter Howell comes up from the back and does a great job on lead vocals. There are plenty of good potential singles on here in the fashion of other LT singles. 'Missing Years' is on the radio in some places, and I think we'll hear more. The price is right and if you are a fan or curious, this as a good of an album as anything these guys have done. Try 'Texas 101' and 'Party Life' - two other favorites from this album. Using [..] I bought this along with their recent live album (Live and Loud). Good deal.

Prime Cuts: Missing Years, Your Blues, Knees

What happens to a group's identity when its lead singer changes not once but three times over the course of the last decade or so? Despite chartering a formidable identity in country music with hits such as "First Time for Everything," "My Love," and "God Bless Texas," bruised egos and group politics caused its first lead singer Brady Seals to abandon ship in favor of a solo career. After the departure of second front man Tim Rushlow, the group subsequently disbanded. However, when the group reunited in 2004 with Steven Troy as their new lead, Rushlow and Seals held legal injunctions to prevent their previous cohorts from using their patented identity as "Little Texas." Such legal faux pas was enough reason for Troy to throw in the towel without any new material surfacing. In exasperation, guitarist Porter Howell stepped up to the microphone, and "Missing Years" is the result of such onerous struggle. So how does this pertinacious effort fare? There are continuities and discontinuous vis-à-vis their copious back catalog. While these Lone Star State loving-guys had previously depended on big love ballads, the ballads here are more organic and subdued. Nevertheless, for those who have taken a fancy to their rowdy anthemic Bon Jovi-esque rock, there is much in galore.

On the ballad-front, the title track, though somehow lyrically verbose, is a brooding bluesy piece that has a mesmerizing ability to draw one into its narrative plot. The lads' fraternity-like harmonies adds poignancy to this modern day spin of the story of the prodigal son who left home after graduation only to find that home was what he missed the most after his squandered years. Though utilizing some maudlin and poorly thought out metaphors such as "let my lap be your pillow, let my love be your bed," the Brett James/Angelo-composed "Your Blues" is still quite an affecting love song that calls to mind their former number 1 hit "My Love." Save for the title track, the better tracks are the ones not penned by the boys, "On My Knees" coming from the pens of Don Pfrimmer and Marc Beeson, despite some quirky chord changes, is a desperate prayer for divine intervention at the threshold of heartbreak.

Almost endemic to the group's ethos, there is always that obligatory valentine to the Lone Star state to which they have derived their name. "Texas 101" is this disc's entry. In an ingenuous effort to eschew clichés, "Texas 101" tries to stay current in its laudatory praise of the State's contributions with passing references of the George Bush and Dixie Chicks debacle and Willie's weed smoking bus incident. However, the couple of living large and wild rousers, namely "Party Life" and "Gotta Get Me Down Home" are as frivolous as the titles suggest. Perhaps, nothing is more appalling than the lead single "Your Woman," an ill-constructed tuneless uptempo with an irritating chorus, about a man gloating that he now has the heart of his friend's former lover. Dump "Rebel" into the bin of anonymous-sounding mindless redneck anthems that currently flood country music.

Though it is good to see these quartet coming together again jamming through some familiar sounding rockers, it is also pleasing to see growth with the choice of more subtle and hence more affecting ballads. Nevertheless, as a whole, the album does not have the verve and the drive of their previous CDs. Mostly fault at the abundance of self-composed materials that tend to favor clichés over originality glazed over mediocre melodic lines. Sad to say the missing years from recording have not mounded these lads for the better.

5 out of 5 stars Country Is Getting Back Where It Should Be.......2007-06-21

I have to agree with the last reviewer, this album is awesome, the songs are written cleverly and the melodies just sound amazing. There is really no country band that can harmonize as well as a group than Little Texas. I have been a fan of theirs since their first album and I am glad to see some of the 90's artists making a comeback. I have recently added this album, Daryle Singletary's new album, Tray Lawrence and Ty Herndon's new offering to my collection. It is a shame that country radio is just receptive to all the popular acts, I am getting tired of Kenny Chesney's beach music and Toby's rebel, funny lyrical music, don't get me wrong I still like them but I am ready for some great 90's artists to keep resurfacing. Little Texas's new album has substance and meaning. I find their music and Porter's voice a little like Hilljack, which is an awesome group in its own right. In fact 'Texas 101' was written by Johnny Slate, Hilljack lead singer Paul Jefferson and Porter Howell, so it has been used on two albums and is a great "Texas" song. Support more 90's Country Artists and go buy this Great CD. You won't be disappointed. Hopefully more 90's artists like Blackhawk and Bryan White will release new albums in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!.......2007-06-21

Anyone who is saying this CD isn't good because it doesn't have Tim or Brady on it is just crazy!! This is the best CD they have ever released. Porter sounds so much better then Tim. Brady didn't even do lead vocals that much and he isn't that big of a loss and the same for Tim. It's a shame this music isn't getting the air play with radio. It's a big loss for country listeners. I don't know about everyone else but I'm sick of radio just playing only the "top 10" over and over. There is so much more out there. Most of it sounds better then what is being played!! Good job Little Texas!! I love the song The Reason and Party Life.....and I could just keep going because every song on this disc is great!!!

4 out of 5 stars '90s country hitmakers regroup and come back strong.......2007-06-16

As a sextet, Little Texas had eighteen country hits throughout the '90s, their greatest success coming in the first half of the decade. The group's first run ended with 1997's "Little Texas" and was followed a seven-year hiatus. They reappeared in 2004 with Steven Troy replacing Tim Rushlow on vocals, and returned to touring. Troy left in 2006 and lead guitarist (and founding group member) Porter Howell stepped up to the microphone. Now operating as a quartet, with Howell joined by fellow founders Dwayne O'Brien on vocals and guitar, Duane Propes on vocals and bass, and Del Gray on drums, they've cut their first album in a decade.

Howell's an appealing lead vocalist, singing with a huskiness and geniality that brings to mind Jack Ingram. He's a winning center point for harmonies that are not as beholden to the Eagles as the band's earlier work. The instrumental sound is also a touch more modern, dropping the processed guitars of the '90s in favor of a twangier contemporary country sound. Generous amounts of steel and mandolin give this a rootsier feel than the band's previous albums.

Even with the changes, this still sounds like a Little Texas album. Howell and O'Brien continue to write, and outside songwriters chip in material that suits the band well. The country-blues stompers "Gotta Get Me Down Home" and "Party Life," though a bit late to redneck goodtime party scene, are great vehicles for Howell's soulful voice. The name-checking swing of "Texas 101" could easily serve as the basis for a popular CMT video or fan sing-a-along written concert favorite.

The partying stops for several fine ballads, including the retrospective "So Long" with its study of spouses grown apart, friends passed away, and relationships scattered to the winds of time. The sentiment's flipside, "When He's Gone," is too morose for a bride's first dance with her father, but it's a sweet ode to dads everywhere. The title track's return-to-home travelogue is reminiscent of Tim McGraw's "Everywhere," but the happier ending provides less of an emotional wallop.

After a decade away from the studio, Little Texas manages the neat trick of still sounding like Little Texas without sounding trapped in the past. They've got the musical goods for another run at the charts, but only the vagaries of country radio can make that final determination. Either way, the band's fans should like this updated sound, and contemporary country listeners will find these '90s superstars appealing. 3-3/4 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. After dwelling in the shadow of Dipset mentor Cam'ron, Juelz Santana comes fully into his own on his sophomore album. Lyrically, Santana still isn't as clever or charismatic as Cam, though he's got great hooks and a compelling swagger. However, he's figured out how to cut great songs. What the Game's Been Missing is stocked with some great anthems: the excitable chatter of "Mic Check," the loungey swing of "There It Go," and "Oh Yes," which rivals Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" for gleeful charm (however gimmicky). It's not as guest heavy as you'd expect, with just a few cameos, including Young Jeezy and Lil' Wayne, plus Cam of course. Especially after the disappointment of Jim Jones's previous album, Juelz is helping Dipset end on a positive note for 2005. He could still stand to upgrade his lyrical sophistication, but Santana's proving adept in using what talents he's got to full effect. --Oliver Wang

1 out of 5 stars One of the worse rappers beside Tony yayo & the rest of the gay unit b itches.......2007-05-28

Juelz santana's "what the game's been missing" is horrible. Production wise, lirical wise and over all just plain wack. Okay i give these weak rappers chances but they are truly wack! Juelz santana's rhymes does not make any sense and he proved that on his "santana town" song if you payed any close attetion to that song ? You'll hear bunch of nothing.I quess the mainstream mtv audience will get buy anything as along as its "pop" and "cool" what a shame. Dipset, gay unit, and these mtv2 rappers are whats killing the real hip hop and rap music nowdayz. By the way Juelz santana if your reading this ? Remenber "chu chu train" thats one of your lines ni gga! How can you call yourself a rapper? Well i quess even if lil john is a consider a rapper & a real producer anything is possible right ? Krs one would destroy your none sense rhymes in a second dude.Just my opinion. Peace out!

3 out of 5 stars This Sophmore effort is NOT that good.......2006-07-13

I liked Juelz Santana on his first album 'From Me 2 U' which iz ALOT better than this cd right here.....The Production is handled well by the Heatmakers etc, and on this one, I think Juelz was def slackin on this album.....Im no hater or none of that S***, Im just being real.......Half the time on this album he's not rappin at all, but just relyin on the production too much to make the song sound good with a bunch of generic one-liner verses....Songs like 'Gansta S***, Clockwork, Oh Yes' 'Make It Work For YOu' and 'There It Go' are perfect examples of what im talkin about......Their all club bangers with good beats, but the lyrics were too watered down on those joints......But thats not to say he doesnt get lyrical on this album at all, he uses his storytellin abilities like on songs like 'This Is Me' 'Whatever U Wanna Call It' 'Good Times' show this.....The other parts of this albums are the typical Dipset bangers you'd hear on any album.....My fave track on here is 'Mic Check' on this one.....
This prolly was one of or the most overhyped album of '05, 'From Me To U' is much better than this and shos Juelz at his full potential....What The Games Been Missing Has its moments, after that, the album getz forgettable....

3 out of 5 stars Not the best from juelz...but still pretty good.......2006-06-29

I've heard juelz on mixtapes and know what he can do and this isn't his best work. If there was about 2 more good songs on this cd it would of recieved a 4. His flow isn't smooth and sometimes i think this cd relies on the beats to bring some of the songs up.

2 out of 5 stars 2-1/2 Stars -- Trust me the game isn't missing him..........2006-05-18

First off Juelz Santana isn't a new rapper. His first release was From Me To U, and he release several mixtapes but didn't emerge into the spotlight till Cam'ron let him hop aboard on his hits "Oh Boy" and "Hey Ma" Then he made a huge splash when it came time for his solo joint "There It Go (The Whistle Song)" was very overrated IMO. That's not to say isnt some good stuff in his sophmore album What The Game's Been Missing that's worth checking out.

"Shottas" featuring Cam'ron and Sizzla is good for dancing too, and even though Sizzla brings a reggae feel to the song it's not anything close to that type of music. Of course everyone has already heard the anthemic "Mic Check" although for some reason it's censored on here. There's gotta be a hood song on here of course and "Whatever You Wanna Call It" doesn't fail although Hell Rell fails to impress (not that I thought he would). "Daddy" shows that Juelz has a soft side talking about what would happen if he lost his kid, and "Gone" is his strongest track lyric wise.

So after naming all those good songs why the low rating? Well, for starters this album is 76 minutes long, and with 22 tracks 5 songs doesn't cut it. "Oh Yes" was a guilty pleasure for me, but the chorus worn on me and got annoying after a while. The same goes for the constant screaming in the chorus on "Murda Murda" featuring Cam'ron.

There's plenty of filler tracks too like the ridiculous "I Am Crack", "Gangsta S**t", and "Rumble Man Rumble". And I don't know who Juelz thinks he is with his constant screaming (your not in M.O.P.) thorough the skippable "Violence".

Production fails on "Make It Work For You" with the music sounding like it was produced off a keyboard. It doesnt help that both Young Jeezy and Lil' Wayne outshine him on here too. And when I heard "Clockwork", I was like "Who wasted their time writing this?" Juelz Santana shows that he has potential but he just doesn't have what it takes to carry a whole album.

1 out of 5 stars Juelz should be missing his tongue.......2006-05-09

Yes the game has been missing the constant songs about drugs, girls, cars and jewelery. I tell you Juelz really came with an original formula with this album. The stuff he mentions on this one has never been said before and Juelz is an innovator as well as the rest of the dipset. LOL!!!! These guys listen to other peoples albums and just reiterate the same stuff in a different song and beat. Save your money.

5 out of 5 stars Really, really good.......2004-04-22

If you want real music then buy this album, boycott East Bay Ray and Manifesto Records. If it says Dead Kennedys or Jello Biafra it's not worth it unless it's on ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2004-01-06

Jello with anybody is good. This is great. If you're into the punk scene, check it out.

5 out of 5 stars Jello Biafra with DOA.......2003-06-11

I don't know how many years I've had this on vinyl but it's still superb. Whenever Jello Biafra teams up with other bands (Nomeansno, DOA or Minstry) they create something spectacular. This is no exception.

There is some good stuff out there by the individual artists (Fresh Fruit... Psalm69) but if you can only but one - buy this one!

5 out of 5 stars Jello with DOA - Great Stuff Maynard!.......2001-08-21

I'd heard some Dead Kennedys in the early 1980s, and had bought "Inc God We Trust, Inc." Loved 2-3 of their songs, enjoyed many of the lyrics of the rest of the songs.

When I saw the positive reviews for this 1989 CD, I decided to try it. I bought it last week. The other fans were right, this is a TERRIFIC compact disc. I not only enjoyed the first song and its cadence thoroughly, it was a delight to hear the remake of "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" from The Animals.

Biafra is just as clever and charismatic as ever. He sounds terrific with DOA. At least as good as any old material, maybe even better. In fact, I'm playing it again right now...

5 out of 5 stars Better than most DK stuff.......2000-12-20

These reviews do not lie. This is an incredible album. It came out of the Terminal City Ricochet soundtrack. The music is loud and powerful--it lacks the surfiness that the DK sound had, which makes this album all the more heavier. The lyrics are top-notch. Fans of this should also check out the Jello with No Means No album "The Sky is Falling I Want My Mommy"--equally good.

By the time of their sophomore effort, Wire had notched plenty of live gigs off the incredible strength of their debut Pink Flag. Where its predecessor had been awash in herky jerks and jagged guitars, Chairs was rife with what must've seemed like downright longform musical essays. The dirge-like "Mercy," after all, clocks in at an unheard-of five minutes and 46 seconds, and the synth-surrounded "Another the Letter" is the only song that spans just over a minute, sirening and getting nervy and portending 1979's third Wire outing, 154. It's a silly phrase given the stature of Wire's debut, but compared to Pink Flag (see how silly it is to compare things to Pink Flag?), what's here is diffuse. It's also brilliant: claustrophobic and rich in post-punk detail, furious and floating, anthemic ("Sand in My Joints") and pop-laden ("Outdoor Miner"). And now it's back, in a gatefold digipak, remastered and rich in color. --Andrew Bartlett

5 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of all time .......2007-07-02

If you like Post Punk or are interested in getting into "Post Punk" or New Wave or Power Pop then this is one of the many albums you NEED to get. Or even if you just like good music that is different than the rest- you NEED this album. Along with 154 and the first Wire album Pink Flag of course. I actually kinda resisted getting into Wire's early stuff untill a friend of mine (thank you forever Jules Hart)sat me down, smoked 8) and played this CD for me. I had to have him play the song French Film Blurred back for me at least five times! While I had listened to much of the early to mid to late 80's Wire such as A Bell Is A Cup Until It Is Struck etc and liked it ok enough listening to Chairs Missing and then 154 really showed me what Wire is all about. You need to have at least Chairs Missing and 154 in your collection. Buy them. Get the 90's releases if you can as they have bonus tracks that are very cool but if you cant find those get the remastered ones ASAP. They will change your life.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Albums Ever.......2006-09-07

Please get this album. You will like it.
While not as well known as Wire's debut, Pink Flag, this album, in my opinion, is much better. Wire's increasing use of synths really helps the music as well as adding yet another experimental quality to it.

Also, if you plan to get any wire album, why not get all three of their essential albums:

    Pink Flag (1977), Chairs Missing (1978), 154 (1979)

5 out of 5 stars Chairs Missing is incredible; and if you don't have it, you really should.......2006-04-16

In 1978, being qualified as "the Pink Floyd of the New Wave" might have come across as something of an insult; and by today's artistic strategies of rampant revivalism such a pithy remark may ring true to many a listener. That statement was, in fact, the critique prescribed to Chairs Missing, Wire's second album, as the album decelerated the pogo punk minimalism found on their first album with an increasing use of experimental production. In hindsight, Chairs Missing is the perfect transition between the high-strung velocity of Pink Flag and the staggering gloominess of 154; yet most transition records have a clunkiness about them, like a lanky teenager not quite able to fit into his sunday best. But Chairs Missing is miles above the average transition album.

To many a listener, Chairs Missing stands as the ultimate Wire album, with near perfect pop songs alternating between anthemic punk and eccentric production techniques (i.e. atonal synth drone, staccato guitar chops, overdubbed guitar distortion, etc.). Where Pink Flag kept many of the songs under a minute and half, Chairs Missing is downright baroque in its presentation of 3 minute tunes. The genius of Chairs Missing is how Colin Newman, Robert Gotobed, Bruce Gilbert, and Graham Lewis manage to steer through the diverse songwriting landscape, in how the album's opening track "Practice Makes Perfect" transitions from a delicate prance for jangled guitar into a precise expression of menace, in how "Outdoor Miner" creates the catchiest, Beatlesque chorus you'll never be able to sing back to yourself given the complexity of its rejoining, nonsensical syllables, in how jaggedly clean the guitars of Newman and Gilbert attack each other, in how Lewis' bass is fluid and effortless, in how this run-on sentence seems to have lost its way trying to fathom the complexity of Wire.

If you believe that the length of my reviews directly correlate to how good the record actually is, then I have failed as I would need to write a f-cking a book about how stunning this album is. Yeah, Chairs Missing is incredible; and if you don't have it, you really should.
