The Book of Genesis tells us that God created "the evening and the morning" on the third day. It's hard to say when is the best time to listen to this southern Christian rock act's rousing tunes, though morning is likely the best, as their anthemic alt-rock is filled with enough praise and worship to get even the most jaded listener through the day. In their 11-year recording history, the band has built up a loyal fanbase, won Dove and Grammy awards, and spent innumerable miles on the road. On Chronology, Vol. 1, Third Day looks back at the first half of their career with a dual CD/DVD disc with characteristic generosity. A handful of live and rare numbers round out new mixes of hits like "Forever" and "I've Always Loved You," while two of their most-loved early numbers, "My Hope Is You" and "Thief," have been entirely re-recorded. The DVD is the real meat here, with five early music videos, six live performances from the Dove shows, and excerpts from eight handheld videos made by fans, which all show how hard these guys can kick it. This is no paint-by-numbers best-of, but an awesome tribute that will satisfy devoted fans and the newly curious alike. --Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars Great...even if you already have everything else!.......2007-07-23

I have most of Third Day's other CDs and DVDs but I still bought this CD/DVD even though I already have most of the songs included here. I love the songs so much that the alternate arrangements or live versions give me a chance to appreciate the songs all over again.

I would say that THIS is the CD to introduce other folks to Third Day...but I could say that about all the other ones I've listened to since starting with "Come Together" a few years back.

They're also a fantastic band to see live if you get the chance!

5 out of 5 stars Can't beat this if you're a 3rd Day fan or not one yet.......2007-07-18

I have all their old CDs so there was no epiphany for me on hearding this new collection, but it's a solid assortment of past hits that can't be faulted.

The video DVD alone is worth the purchase price for the 2-disk set. Seeing the band evolve from their jumpy-punk early videos to GMA spots then on to smooth recent stuff is priceless! Cry out to Jesus still makes me cry.

3 thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars Third Day At Their Best.......2007-07-12

To all Third Day fans, this CD is a must have. It is not just the original songs placed on one CD and re-released, but the guys have gone to the trouble of re-recording all the tracks on this CD. And it's an awesome result.

The DVD that comes with the CD is also good value. You get to see the guys in their element, just worshipping God with out any inhibitions.

If you love Third Day's music then you will not be disappointed with this venture. I highly recommend you buy this CD.

4 out of 5 stars XLNT!.......2007-05-15

Let me start off by saying Third Day's Cronology volume 1 is a fantastic dc/dvd! You are definately getting you're money's worth! Not only are you getting an audio cd packed with hitsongs, rarities, and live performances, you're also gonna a dvd full of realy neat stuff! I'd like to tell you a little about the cd first. The audio portian of this package contains 18 tracks, most of whitch are not available elswhere. You get remixes of songs from the band's debut album simply entitled "Third Day" as well as a newly recorded verssion of"Thief" You get stuff from their 2nd 3rd, and 4th albums, as well as previously unreleased live performances of "Black Bird" and "Alien" There's also a newly recorded verssion of "My Hope is You" But wait there's more! You also get tracks from a rare 1999 ep. Still not convinced this a bargin? The dvd features early videos, live performances, and bootleg videos from the early 90s before Third Day was signed to a record deal. But I'm not quite finished yet! There's also audio commentary from the band durring the early videos and the bootlegs. So there you have it! everything that comes in this wonderful package. I think that Chronology vol 1 is an outstanding retrospective on Third Day's early, as well as an absolute bargin for the price even if you pay fullprice. Trust me you're getting your $'s worth. PS Be on the lookout for Chronology vol2 release date August 17th 2007 Thanks for reading my review. K C stewart

5 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!!!.......2007-05-14

If you are a Third Day fan this cd/dvd combo is a MUST HAVE!!! It has some great history about the band and you can watch how they have all grown up together. God has tremendously blessed them, because they have all been faithful to Him. I have really enjoyed this collection.

To understand this review, take a look at the reviews of the other volumes in this series, particularly Vol. 4...
Some of the music on this series is so weird and beautiful that the composers should be grateful that it is released here. They should think of this series as a sampler which might atract us, the general public, into further investigation of their work, which we most probably would have never had the chance to hear or even become aware of its existence nor of that of the composers/artists. Don't be so greedy... for I believe you have been done a favor. The same goes for the other volumes of this series. TWO THUMBS UP!

      Album Description

For many years, Sweet has been the band of choice for anthem-oriented rock songs. With albums like Desolation Boulevard, Give Us A Wink, and last years Sweetlife (Friday Music 1033), the band truly reigns as one of the leading founders of the glam-rock/ metal-rock revolution.

Andy Scott and the crew have gone into the studios and put together a fantastic project called Chronology. With over an hour of their best known classics re-visited, hard -to- find mixes, overseas only released tracks & mega-medleys, this latest anthology really captivates the old and new converts alike.

New hard rocking versions of " Fox On The Run" " Ballroom Blitz" and " Love Is Like Oxygen" are all here for the taking. Rare medleys (overseas new recordings) of "Coco/Funny/Poppa Joe" and their latest international hit " Do It All Over Again" are included in the jam packed package.

This album will sit proudly with any of your other classic Sweet records. Andy Scott is joined by fellow Sweet members Steve Grant, Jeff Brown and Bruce Bisland, plus special guest the late Mick Tucker on Drums. Chronology by Sweet.....music for the hard-rocker in all of us!

5 out of 5 stars More synth-wave gems from an overlooked 80s band.......2007-05-08

Moody male vocal, swirling synths, danceable drum machines, and gorgeous melodies make Images in Vogue one of the best ignored new wave groups of the 80s.

Where as "best of" collected many of the band's power pop/synth-rock new wave tracks, Collection version 2.0 covers their more avant-garde synth-new wave tracks that should have been eaten up by alternative stations in the early 80s. This is new romantic era at its best, offering something fresh for those who listened to the likes of Our Daughter's Wedding, Gary Numan, OMD, and Ultravox. You'll also find the bigger single releases like the gorgeous synthpop dance track Lust for Love and Call it Love, and tracks that perfectly blend new wave guitar riffs into the mix to give the strong pop song structures more of an Icehouse feel. Simply the best of the sounds the 80s had to offer--and a band that is worthy of the 3 volumes of collection available, all of which fill the CDs to capacity.

Surprisingly, there are a few extravagant instrumental synth tracks, including Travel and For Germans, that are a bit over the top--they sound like really cheesy 80s soundtrack stuff--but it doesn't hurt to have them on here to get the complete Images in Vogue experience.

Without a doubt, if you loved all the new wave synth bands of the 80s (need I name them?) then you should absolutely get the three Images in Vogue collections.

5 out of 5 stars BUY THIS CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-04-15

Every song on this cd leaves you wishing the 80's had never ended.

Lust For Love by far is one of the best songs ever written!

If you like this Cd you should also buy The Best Of= Real Life (Send Me an Angel)

5 out of 5 stars A must have for fans of old school electronic pop music!.......2004-01-25

If you were ever a fan of the synth based pop music of the early to mid eighties, this is a must have CD to own. Canada's only real answer to the music coming out of Europe in the late '70's, early '80's, Images in Vogue's most obvious influences were the likes of Ultravox, Japan, Yellow Magic Orchestra & Kraftwerk. However, they managed a unique & interesting hybrid sound that still rocks solid today.
This CD was obviously a labour of love, clearly filling in the gaps of the groups history from the previous best of collection. It includes several unreleased rarities (Travel, Quiet Room, Look Me in the Eye, Someday) as well as several never before available on CD album tracks & single versions (Call it Love, In The House & Save It). The only repeat song from their collection volume 1 that I can see is Lust For Love, an understandable choice considering the songs past & current popularity. This CD sounds so good you have to hear it yourself to believe it!!

      4 out of 5 stars Worth hearing,particularly if yer a BUZZCOCKS fan........2006-02-27

There's a BUZZCOCKS website done by a BUZZCOCKS fanatic and he turned me on to the origin of all these songs. Nice to have the info of b-sides, demos, outtakes and so on.

As an album the first half gets me goin' while it doesn't quite sustain listenability. That is, I don't find myself listening to the whole album because in the second half of the album the songs are sparkling gems like the earlier ones on the album are. The band hit paydirt when they made Singles Going Steady, an uncommon case of a band weaving together singles to make one very spiffy album.

This album does not feel like an archival dredging of the vaults. It does feel like a real album. Nice to have, to own, to listen to. I've always been a big fan of having alternate material to listen to from a band, so much so that I like a good tribute album which can give you a chance to hear the old classic songs in a fresh way.

I'd buy this album anytime. I'm glad I own it. I'd rate it as the third best BUZZCOCKS album behind Singles Going Steady and Different Kind of Tension. Basically, the vast majority of their incredible hits are on those 2 albums. This one ain't bad. chrisbct@hotmail.com

5 out of 5 stars Raw Punk Pop.......2002-12-16

BUZZCOCKS are a band that traded off alot of their grit and energy for impressive but slightly numbing studio polish. This collection of demos, outtakes and alternate versions from 77 - 81 restores the band to a punk level of spontanaiety and restores the balance between their power pop chops and DIY clatter. Highest Recommedation.

3 out of 5 stars From Under Pete Shelley's Basement Stairs.......2000-02-15

As modern Buzzcocks product continues to appear at the rate of two live albums for every studio job, we here get another bucketload of demos that have presumably been sitting around at Pete Shelley's for years. Some of it's good, e.g. the demo of Boredom and the raging take on I Don't Know What to Do With My Life. Some of it's astonishingly funny in a Max Splodge kind of way: see Mother of Turds. But most of it is alternative versions of songs you already have in better versions. Educational, especially for the evolution of songs like Promises which Steve Diggle sings here making up the words as he goes, but inessential save for the fanatic.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful First Best of Collection.......2004-04-03

Originally released in 1986, this disc compiles the early hits of an outstanding Christian artist. Logging in at only 10 tracks, it doesn't have everything, but it's a good introduction to David Meece's early work.

In a rare move for a best of this small, it includes two new songs. "Seventy Times Seven" is a powerful song of a sinner asking God for forgiveness. "Come That Day" focuses on the events of the Day of the Lord. Stylistically, they are closest to "Candle in the Rain," the release that followed this one, then anything else he's done.

The rest of the songs cover David's career in reverse order. "The Unknown Soldier" represents "7." I was expecting a sad song, but was blown away by this song about the power of prayer. I immediately fell in love with it.

"Count the Cost" gets two songs. The first is "Falling Down," another song about the many chances God gives us in our struggles with sin. The second is the praise song "Gloria."

"Are You Ready?" has the most songs with the title track and two more. "Follow You" is a nice upbeat song that is easy to sing along to. And no collection of David Meece's best would be complete without "We Are the Reason." Even with all the times it's been recorded, this song that bridges the gap between Christmas and Easter is still outstanding.

Next up is the title track from his third album, "Everybody Needs a Little Help." This song of friendship in the midst of trial has gotten forgotten in the years since its release, but it was a major hit in its day.

Finally, "Jesus" gets to do double duty. This song of commitment to our Savior originally appeared on the record "David," but this recording is the live version from "Front Row."

The linear notes are very interesting. They recount milestones in his career. I found them interested reading.

With only 10 tracks, there are obviously many great songs that got left out. In fact, nothing appears from his great second album, "I Just Call on You." But this is still a great way to get many of David's early hits.
