Dark & Introspective, with humor..........2001-08-06

Rollins weaving his spoken word craft with unrelenting frankness. Dark, perhaps, but this is Rollins. Always worth the purchase price to have a glimpse like this at someones thoughts and experiences.

These are not music CD's or one of Rollins' more comedic Spoken Word CD sets.

These CD's are depression, loneliness, pain, loss, hatred, and disgust-- focussed at himself and the rest of the world. It reads like a diary-- leaving you wondering who he is to publish it and who you are to listen to it. Recommended.

A Fantastic CD.......2001-04-04

If you're a fan of Rollins Soken Word, this is a fantastic CD. It is much in the ilk of "Get in the Van", only instead of just a tour diary, he throws in more personal observations of the world he sees around him. If you read/listen to Black Coffee Blues, then read the next two in the series ("Do I Come Here Often" & "Smile, You're Traveling") you will really see how his writing evoloves through time. The sitar in the background give a nice Jim Morrison ambiance to the CD.

Interesting, but not mind-blowing........1999-10-12

I enjoyed this CD because of the genuine pain and resent I felt in Henry Rollins' angry prattle. But, I think Henry's trying just a little to hard at being a sophisticated intellectual type. His lyrics are kind of inept and silly, and the first CD is really repetitive. But, some parts are certainly interesting, such as when he talks about what it's like being on the road, and his experiences with women. Moreover, Henry's voice and his descriptions of mental anguish and personal torment have a kind of subliminal effect. You start listening to him and pretty soon you can relate to what he's saying.

Henry Rollins comes at you with a new view. He astonishes the listener with many mind twisting phrases. Rollins goes into a deep thought about life on the road and the way people all over the world act. He takes you to a place that most people see as glamorous, but he shows the truth behind grueling tours and life in a hotel. Henry makes you think of your own life and how it can be perceived as a new. New life revalations are unearthed as you follow Henry down the dim lighted path of your mind.

In his debut recording, Black Coffee Blues, Peter May has blown the lid off the old coffee pot. There are some down the dirt road favorites along with well-crafted originals for the listener to behold. Peter has perfected his guitar styles and sings his blues with a feeling. This record should be heard. Not only does it expand the genre of blues, it revels in it.
