Superstitious

Editorial Reviews
Mark Weber, Zeebozine, January 1, 2003
All in all, JP is one of the best rappers on the scene today, Christian or otherwise.

About the Artist
JP is a rap visionary whose God-given talent has given him a nationwide following. From Philadelphia to Idaho from Washington, to South Carolina, to Colorado, JP's message and his music is infectious and spreading like wildfire.

Are you Superstitious?

Album Description
He may be a church pastor, but JP is also a rapper, and a good one at that. When he dropped "This Is JP" about a year ago, it was an impressive feat for the way it sampled ol' skool rhythms and gave `em a spiritual lyric. Well, JP's "Episode II" is still on the spiritual tip, but this time everything is intensified.

"Episode II" starts off with the commentary of a boxing match, between Adversary (think Satan) and Lionheart (think Jesus). You should buy the CD for this track alone because it represents the battle between good and evil in such a clever, well-written way as Lionheart's blood helps him beat Adversary. The boxing theme is continued as JP comes out with more intensity than ever, sounding like DMX on the Rocky-like "Gonna Fly Now."

JP knows how to make appealing rap. "Superstitious" samples Stevie Wonder's classic "Superstition," and . "Jiggy" has JP announcing that his initials could stand for "jiggy pastor." Peep this—the best lyrical boast in "No Way, No How, No Where" has got to be, "You lost the war like Gore lost Tennessee/ I run my racket like Andre Agassi." Now that's a rhyme!

Of all the songs on "Episode II," perhaps the most off the chain song—the one that's off the hizzell fo shizell--has got to be the Nappy Roots-meets-DMX-meets-TobyMac banjo bangin' "Left Behind." This one should win an award for its straight-up stellar production.

5 out of 5 stars howling electric blues at its best.......2006-10-26

As good as any other offering in the electric blues genre and better than most. If you like full tilt BLUES / ROCK in the GARY MOORE vain, buy this. This man should be a household name amongst great white BLUES guitarists and it is a shame that he is not. No filler / all killer tracks on this masterpiece. He writes good songs and his singing is OK, but his guitar playing is the reason you'll love this cd.

4 out of 5 stars Good Album From A Great Talent.......2003-10-28

So not many people have heard of this talented musician well read all th Robert Plant labels and you will find his name there. This is the first of his solo albums after many years touring and recording with Plant. The songs are all great with a good variety of Tempo. My Fav Tracks are The Stealer & Judgement Day. This CD might be a bit to much blues for some but if you are a fan of good blues rock check it out it is well worth a listen.

5 out of 5 stars One Of His Best.......1999-06-08

This has to be one of Country Joe's best albums! Well produced and well written. A good mix of fast and slow blues. Excellent music. Jerry Garcia is on four of the tracks and he is in top form. "Blues For Michael" ( dedicated to Michael Blumefield) and "Tranquility" are two classics. "Tranquility" was written for his dying father. Even without lyrics, this is a tender and moving piece. If you have never gotten into the solo career of this great artist, this is a good place to start.Even if you do not agree with his politics, you can enjoy the great talent found here.

4 out of 5 stars A very good collection, actually.......2000-06-10

First, this album is not mixed, thank god. I'm really starting to get tired of all the mixed CDs. Even samplers of other record labels are mixed today, why? I want to get the whole track when I pay for it...

Well, I had to get it of my chest, here's what I think of this album: The tracks on this album moves between progressive/deep trance and techno, and that's good. You don't get much of these today. Some of the famous names in this label are Humate and L.S.G (Oliver Lieb, for you) amd these two names rule the album with 6 out of 12 tracks. My favorite track is the John Digweed's remix for Humate's 3.2, it's a 9 minutes deep track that starts with a 4 minutes music without any drums (a great choice to start a mix set..) and then the beat rolls in. The first track on the cd is also a great one, Humate's "Burning Man" is a nice combination of Techno and Industrial but also a meldic tune.

L.S.G gives a typical massive track (Freak Me) and a surprising lowbeat trance track (Fragile Pt. 2). Other notable tracks are by Thomas Shumacher (wallbreaking techno, what else) and a collaboration between Humat and Rabit in the Moon.

I really see it as one of the good compilation I have, but I warn you : you will not find your standard ATB/Alice Deejay/DJ Jean stuff here, it's a harder album and you may want to listen to it for more than once until you get into it, but it worth it.
